If "Auto-fit pages" is checked in the browser advanced settings, text reflows & the browser adjusts text so that it is displayed in a column with blank (white space) on webpages. If you then double tap the text zooms in and it is displayed formatted properly to the screen.
I have tried to explore all settings & have tried to search for answer as this is really frustrating.
Any help & guidance will be greatly appreciated. How do I fix this so that text is displayed properly?
Thanks!!

Thanks, made a small change to my post!!
Sooo uncheck the auto fit box???
Personally I hate that ICS doesn't reflow like previous Android, on demand when you do zoom in/out.

if you uncheck that box & double tap to zoom the text doesn't fit the screen and you have to scroll to the sides to read.
I have tried dolphin browser & am facing the same problem there as well.

Ok yeah, it's an ICS issue. I hate that they changed it.

Just wondering for those of you who have the device already, have you guys found some neat features/tricks using 4.0 that haven't been documented or heavily advertised?
I would love to make a list of these features for other users to explore...
Lets get this started
List:
Reserved........
I know it's documented, but it was still a surprise to me - you can now finally delete apps straight from the app drawer, by dragging them just as if you were going to place them on the desktop, but then putting them in the recycle bin on the top.
No affiliation with apple. Or siri.
Sent from my samsung gt i9250 which is in the wrong country.
Nobody's talking about the search app. It's way better than the one in Gingerbread. Much easier to find stuff in your phone : music, app, sms, docs, etc. The old one was returning web search suggestion in 90% of the result... useless.
Search in browser let's you edit suggestion if you want to add something to it. But we lost popular web site suggestion
Just read it on Pocketnow but you can make folders in the favourites bar. Apologies if obvious.
When in the stock browser and you change orientation, tap the screen to make it rotate.

which runs TouchWiz, so it's not stock Android
Rotate the phone to the right whilst in any stock app (so the speaker grill and front camera are on the right). Notice that the back, home and task switch buttons have moved to the top of the screen so that they stay on the right.
When using an ics app hold down on an icon in the action bar to get a description of what it does

Not heavily advertised, but it should be:
The quick control in the browser. Almost the same as on honeycomb. Activate it in the labs settings of the browser. Love it!

NICE find! Thanks!
This is known about, however you said undocumented and I haven't a single document for the Nexus/ICS apart from on one which came with the phone, telling me how to fix the battery.
Hold the volume down and power key, and you take a screen capture. Which is very handy on occasions
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
If you tap the volume button which makes the volume bar appear, you can then press the icon to the left of the volume bar and it toggles between ring and vibrate.

In settings/about phone. Tap repeatedly on the android version number (4.0...) then a little android appears. Keep ur finger on it and it grows into a screen animation.
If u didn't know about this,I guess u r now thinking this is a joke. Or is it?
Need someone to test; try swiping the web pages up/down using 2 fingers
, is it a feature or a glitch?

I thought it scrolled page by page. try by flicking with 2 fingers.
Yet some might say root or use diff launcher or..., I hope this might be considered in next ICS updates:
Launcher: ability to hide app icons in drawer if I want to.
Data usage: ability to prevent app from using wifi beside mobile data foreground & background if needed (firewall).
Gallery editor: frames effects.
Email (not Gmail): more refresh options such as every 2 hours & from time to time....

Only one atm : Reduce lag in scrolling on some occasions
1) Reboot option when holding the power on/off button
2) Easier way to mass text people
3) Ability mass select individual text messages (in each thread) and then delete them
4) Better stats on what is using the battery
5) When saving panoramic phots, do it quicker and don't delete the picture if the phone locks before the picture is saved
Increased video recording frame rate and enhanced stabilization, reboot option, faster unlock time from the lockscreen to the camera app, enhanced UI responsiveness, built in memo app and voice recorder app, photo editing app kinda like the one on the GS2 and battery saving tweaks

Make the back button relevant when multitasking. Right now, if I hit back after switching from one app to another, I go to the home screen instead back to the previous app.
Customizable lockscreen is mine
Sent from my Gummy Nexus
Got one more: Swipe Left to REALLY close app in recent app view and swipe right to just get it out of recent app view
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Configurable notification LED -> colour and frequency.
Force ISO setting in the camera app, also adjustable JPEG compression.
Fix multi touch issues, Fix video codec play back issues. Can't think of any more will edit once I can.

Mine would be sort browser bookmarks in order of popularity like 2.1 - 2.3

Welcome

the gallery should be able to open jpg files that are in a .nomedia directory and go to previous or next pic like it where a normal picture...
this worked that way on old android version
since ICS if i open a picture in filemanager that is in a .nomedia directory, the galery does not known how to open it...
its ok that it is not shown in the gallery app by default, but if i open it from filemanager it should open ...
Mine would be sort the browser out :
Permanent desktop option ( like browser+ has)
Smoother scrolling
Rewrap text as an option
And i hate the way when tap in and then out it has rerender it , kida reminds me of checkers
Still think its the best browser iv used but fixing these is a must
I'd like to see a higher res and flash for the front camera.
Consistent ui!

I just want an update lol.
I would like.
*full manual camera setting ISO , shutter speed, manual focus.
*wakelock display in battery stats to show what apps are miss misbehaving so we can report them.
*fix the lag that came with 4.0.2
*fix the wifi drop outs.
*put the toggle wifi GPS ect in the drop down bar along with settings or make it customisable.
*customisable notifications like light flow app.
*fix the all alarm app, when you launch it just launch it straight to the set alarms not a date and time screen.
Everything else is sweet.

could anyone explain me if and how text reflow works for stock browser?
on my Gnex most for websites it doesn't seem to work especially when I pinch to zoom
thx
Once you pinch to zoom you have double tap to text reflow.i hope that helps
The double tap just does a zoom or a dezoom

It shouldn't. Pinch to zoom then double tap on any place on the screen and it should shift the text into alignment.

It's been the same for many browsers for many years. It cuts down on CPU use I would assume, if you zoomed in too far the browser wouldn't be trying to resize as you were drawing back out again, stuttering and slowing down your phone.
I think it's the clever way to pinch to zoom.
On the galaxy s2, it reflows automatically after zooming once the option has been switched on

Yeah I know it's not ideal but at least you can reflow text unlike the iphone. HTC and gs2 stock browsers don't require double tap which is neat but Google use their own stock browser and for some bizarre reason they went with double tap.

I have set the fonts to 110% and most of the time I don't even need to zoom, on landscape.
With the 4.3 in display(usable) of the GN most of the time you don't need the extra zoom hence the text reflow. That's just my opinion.
Back on Desire(3.7), text reflow was a must for me.
wow nice phone
I got some questions :
There's a chance like in Iphone while you browsing if u click top of the screen you go directly to top of the screen ?
Which launcher do you use it ?
With Iphone if I receive a sms and phone is on the table, I see that the display turns On and show the sms. Here I hear the sound but nothing happen, and remains black the screen, can I change it ?
thanks
If you install handcent sms you can have iphone like chat bubbles and the option to have screen on and sms popup

thanks

Nova ftw!
Too many issues with apex or go launcher.
Nova has served me well.
another tip that can save me
With Iphone, if you visit a huge website like blogs, and u are very deep in it, then if you wanna get on the top of the page, you just touch top screen of browser et-voilĂ you get insta moved to the top.
Here I miss it
any chance or im blind and i dont see it ?

I don't think that exists, but if you use Opera/Opera Mini/Opera Mini Next, they have it to where if you scroll up fast enough you get an option to just click a button to head straight to the top.
... at least I think that was Opera.
ah damn thats so bad, it so wonderfull tool.
theres a way to get into google with 1 click maybe ?
On ICS Browser + you can tap the website icon to jump to the top of the page. Here's the market link.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beansoft.browserplus
For Google you can just tap the search bar on your home screen. It can search Google and your phone for apps and contacts also.

Usually if you just try to scroll really fast it will go very far all the way to the top.

Hey all, just got my S3. Have been living on a G2 for a full 2 years. Had no issues, didnt see a need to upgrade. But I finally did.
I do a lot of news browsing on my fone, part of my job, i was able to double tap the text portion and my G2 would center and fit to screen just the text of the articles. Havent been able to figure out that on my S3. Is it even possible or do i just have to try and zoom and landscape view everything?
Another quick question, quick closing web page currently viewing. Say I was reading an article on one webpage and another window had say um er porn, how would i quick close the porn and go back to the article. (girlfriend is a quiet walker)
I use xscope browser, swipe to the side and the screen changes to your other open page and dbl tap zoom works.

Regarding the text resize issue, the default browser should have that functionality. Check that settings > advanced > auto fit is enabled. If I was worried about hiding pr0n fast I would just hit home and open something random. It'd be like to key presses. I'm guessing switching tabs would have to be the same or more.

Stock browser has a reading mode. On a lot of sites press the green R in the address bar. Not quite the same but can be nice to use.

This made me chuckle.
Why not just hit the home button ?
Is it really more believable to be going at it to an article about stool softener, solar panels, or Obama than your homescreen ? Homescreen's probably less awkward than Obama, man, unless your girlfriend is into that.
Also, browsers have tabs. Just switch tab ? Delineate browser usage by function ?
Or just look at porn together or something that way you don't have to hide it. :good:
Thanks guys, the autofit actually helped a lot.
"checking for hemoroids" is a good excuse for the pants around the ankles. Has worked for me.
