Ring once - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I am looking for a ring manager where the phone ring once and then vibrate or ring once and silent.
From my super cool Galaxy S2 4G

Me too. I use semi silent.

That's kinda easy to do. Make a ringtone that is short and doesn't repeat. The phone will only play it once, as opposed to playing it in an endless loop. I never figured out exactly what was the difference in the file that would make one file repeat and one not, even though they were the same format, file extension, sampling rate, channels, and bitrate. Stock sounds repeat but i've never been able to make a custom one that repeats, I've just copy pasted in a sound editor with the sound until the ringtone is like 30 seconds long.

Silence MP3 Notification

I posted this in the General Hermes, to no avail...
im trying to set a 15 second MP3 to play when i get a new text message, but it plays out the entire mp3 even after i hit Dismiss...
id like it know if its possible to silence it, such as when you read it, to automatically silence it...similar to how, say, a flip phone silences the tone if you upen the phone up...?
thanks in advance
you mean to stop the playback while in the middle of it?
Why don't you use Audacity or some such to trim it down to something shorter
yes, i want too stop it mid-playback - i already trimmed the song with audacity
I don't think this is possible.
Just trim it some more!

[Q] Ring Once Only

I posted this the other day. It never showed up? Did someone delete it?
Anyways - My phone just seems to ring only once when I call it. It will continue to ring through but only without ringing. If I put vibrate as a choice it will vibrate but other wise it just is silent and rings until voicemail.
I don't have a profile setup for ring that I can see.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Noticed this myself, it doesn't seem to loop the ring tone but will continue to vibrate

+1 same here
I think the problem may lie with the audio file. It seems to loop with the default ringtones but not with custom. May need to set the audio files to loop?
What kind of audio format are you using?
In a German board some guy had this issue with .ogg and could fix it by using . mp3 instead.
Haven't checked by self cause I always pick up the phone instantly.
I am using the the standard ring tones with the Nexus. It's called Digital Phone.
I have tried all the rings tones and they all do the same exact thing. Ring once and then silence or If the setting is changed to Ring and Vibrate then it will vibrate..
Update: I did notice something after playing around with it a little longer. Even though one of the included ring tones is Ditigal Phone and many others. There are many tones that start from D-Z do not loop when you are testing the tones. Any ringtone from Digital Ring Tone and below do not loop in playback.
So that must be the case for me at least. Anyone test it out and confirm?
When playing ringtones to see if they loop - I can't get anything from Digital RingTone and below to play in a loop for testing.

[Q] Notifications/Ring Too Loud on Lowest Setting

I'm a little surprised that I couldn't find anything on this. My wife and I just got our GS3s a couple days ago and are both of the opinion that the lowest volume setting for both rings and notifications is still way too loud. There needs to be a step between vibrate and the first volume level up. I like my phone to make noise, but I don't want the people in the next cubicle over to really hear it.
For what it's worth, mine is rooted, but stock everything. My wife's is straight stock.
I'm doing a lot of reading up before deciding on a ROM. Does anyone know if any ROMs have finer volume controls?
Thanks for any help.
Only option is settings, sound. Volume, and check what it's set to. I believe you can have your phone sound set to the first level above vibrate but the notification sound can be set to max at all times by accident or something. Just set it to the 1st or 2nd notch and see how it sounds.

Thanks for the reply. They're all set to the lowest level. I still find it to be a bit too loud, though. I think I'll just leave it on vibrate, which is pretty damn loud by itself.
Yeah I think the lowest ringer/notification is way too loud for a cubicle environment.
Would love a solution.
I too find them to be way louder than any of my previous phones with the exact same notification sound. On my HTC is was fine, but now it's way too loud for an office environment.
Is there any apps out there that can adjust this or is it something in the firmware?
Re sample the file.
If the volume is not able to go low enough, try a quieter noise. Or use software to limit the volume of the notification you are currently using. You would just have to find software that will let you manipulate the levels of the audio file then you can save it as a quiet version. If that makes it too quiet for environments outside of work than use one of those apps that automatically select the notification profile during work hours.

[FIX] Weak vibration on your S4? Here is a creative work around!

The only thing I really don't like about the Galaxy S4 is that the vibration is fairly weak. Working in an office I need to have my phoen on vibrate as a colorful ringtone is simply not an option. But I miss text messages and phone calls on occasion because I just don't feel the phone vibrating in my pocket.
Heck even if I have it laying on a nearby table sometimes I still don't hear it vibrating.
I have come up with a sollution acceptable work around to this issue!
I made a vibration sound as my ring tone. So now when the phone vibrates it also goes BzzzBzzzBzzz out of the speaker.
It's barely loud enough to be heard by anyone but you if it's in your pocket. If anyone else does hear it, it still just sounds like a normal vibrating phone. No obnoxious ringtone.
If you want to try this out I've included 3 WAV files in the attached zip.
- Base Vibration Sound.wav - This is the sound file I used as a base for the final ringtones I made. I have scoured the internet looking for vibration sounds. This one is the one that sounded most like an actual vibrating phone. Use this file as your source if you want to try this technique out but don't like the final products I created.
- Ringer Vibration.wav - I added some bass and increased the volume, and extended the length of the original source file so make a loud, long, steady vibration sound that is roughly the length of a normal incoming call vibration.
- SMS Vibration.wav - Same bass and volume changes as the Ringer Vibration, but it's 3 short bursts insead of one long steady vibration. I did this because 3 short burts is how I've always set my my SMS vibration sequence. There are pauses between each vibration in the squence so you can hack up he file and change the vibration pattern as needed easily enough.
Hopefully this idea helps someone else.
Note, I still have the phone vibrate and ring in settings so it still vibrates. The vibration sound is jus in addition.
This is still a work in progress for me. So if you can improve on it please do and share your version here! If there are any real audiophile geeks out there who can make this sound really good, please share your talents! I am NOT an audio guy by any means. I just found a vibration sound file online and modded it with a little cutting and pasting and enhancement options using a free program called Audacity on Ubuntu. So if someone has and knows how to use high quality audio modification software to do this properly, by all means please show us what youv'e got!

Ring loud for specific contact(s)

I would like my phone to ring loudly when certain contacts call.
I have tried AutoRing. Tried using Tasker profile from http://tasker.wikidot.com/alwaysringonimportantcontact
Nothing seems to work at all. The phone rings but no sound. If my (Tasker) profile switches off silent/vibrate mode at 7am, then ringtone volume works fine. It's only when I'm in silent/vibrate mode that volume does not increase/go loud for the specific contact.
It appears to be happening on SGS devices. My auto ring/whitelist never rang loud when I had an SGS3 either.
Has anyone successfully been able to have their phone ring loudly from a specific contact with their TMo SGS4?
I'm stumped! Help...please!

How about if you put a custom ringtone on for the specific contacts you want, and just make that ringtown a louder MP3?
You can even use the same ringtone as everyone else, but make a new file that has the levels turned up. Take the current ringtown, put it on your computer, raise the volume and resave it as ringtone2.mp3 and then apply that louder version to the specifc contacts.
It's a more circuitous route, but if the easier stuff isn't working it's worth a shot.
