I'm very excited about the 4.04 ICS rom, but before I unlock my bootloader and root (hence voiding my warranty) I wanted the community's opinion on some issues I've been having with video and camera
Video: After downloading one of the loaders that didn't require unlocking, I noticed that only a few mp4's would run on MX Video Player, and even then, the audio and video would not sync up and the audio would quickly die/disappear. When attempted to load on stock video player, it would just say that the file can't be played, no other video player would work either.
I factory reset my phone today in preperation for 4.04, and tried some videos to see if it was the loader's fault, to my surprise, no videos would work. I looked around on the xda forums and reformatted all the files using Freemake Video Converter to 720 HD, and now most videos tested seem to be working, although a few seem to have lost their quality. Thought 720 HD was max ability of the phone, so it seems odd that they would've lost quality from prior.
Camera: For no reason that I've found so far, sometimes I try to open the camera app, and it'll say that "Camera has stopped working", or "Cannot connect to Camera", usually this happens after prolonged stay in my pocket?
I don't know if this is a software issue or maybe my phone is broken, so I'd like to confirm before voiding my warranty

Did the problems persist after you did the factory reset? I can only think that some other app, such as Google Talk Video is taking the camera app and not giving it back, even after closing it. Try logging out of Google Talk Video, closing it and doing a clear data. Does the camera problem go away?
Regarding rooting, remember you can always "unroot" and nobody would know you ever rooter. Your warranty is safe. Just make sure you make a Nandroid backup of your stock ROM image, and keep it safe, so you can always go back.
Also, if you are going to 4.0.4, can you confirm you have the CDMA version?

+1 on both points, especially the latter.
Yes, I have the Verizon LTE version.
I've never attempted to use Camera through any other app, but I can see how perhaps some other app is interfering with it, wish there was a way to confirm.
I had actually planned on doing the step by step process for rooting, but I never managed to find the time to finish the process, so I downloaded the toolkit for 1 step rooting. And I now see Samsung Android ADB interface in Device Manager.
I see the option for unlocking, rooting, renaming restore file + flash cwm recovery, as well as relocking below it, but I don't see a mention of Nandroid?
I googled around and Nandroid requires an already unlocked and rooted phone. So I'm not sure what order to do this in.
It seems like in order to root the phone, I just press 7 to unlock root, rename and flash CWM recovery on, and then press 12 to flash 4.0.4 on... and that's it?
Thanks for the help!
First step is to root. Then flash ClockworkMod recovery either via the toolkit or via ROM Manager app (available in Market). Then you can boot into recovery mode and navigate the options to "Backup and Restore". Select the option to backup. This will take a few minutes to write the entire image as a single backup file. This is your "Nandroid Backup". Copy and paste this file onto your PC (or burn it onto CD). Keep it well and truly safe!!!
So, when you need to return to stock image (which will hopefully be never), first you restore this backup image using the same recovery method. Then proceed to unroot.
Job done.

Hi guys,
I've googled a lot before posting, and I really did not manage to find a simple solution to this.
I need two things working simultaneously: root and the Netgear PTV3000, on the SG P601. The reason is that, with root, I can configure the kitkat system to let apps write to the SDcard (with SDFix, from google store). Without it, the card becomes almost useless.
On the other hand, with the PTV3000, I can broadcast for the students during my lectures.
Thing is, if I enable one of these two, it disables the other one! In details:
On a stock, unrooted device, broadcasting with the PTV3000 works like a charm (tablet and PTV all using the latest stock firmware). Even videos run decently (but not perfectly), audio included. If I root the tablet, using the same, unchanged stock firmware, whenever I try to connect to the PTV, I receive a "Hardware error" message. Simple like that.
So in order to use the PTV at work, I'm having to leave the tablet unrooted for now. However, that leaves me with a disabled 64 GB card, which I require to sync with my PC using Unison. This mechanism used to be fantastic for me, because I could work on the computer, then press a button and all changed files would automatically jump into the tablet's sd card and vice-versa, which allowed me to have my stuff always with me and up to date. This beats the **** out of google drive and similars, because it is much faster at copying files, can be done without internet access and protects my privacy.
So my question: is there a way to root the P601, thus enabling SDcard write to all apps, and still have it working with the PTV3000?
Thanks!
BTW: I'm an android noob, and was caught by surprise with the SD card write block from kitkat. :crying:
I have had root + screen mirroring on my P600 with the PTV3000 with the stock ROM and stock recovery. I haven't played around with it since updating to 4.4.2.
I just tried it again, and I got the same error you did, but I've also flashed TWRP recovery. I'm going to try reflashing stock recovery and seeing if that fixes screen mirroring.
There was also a thread around here somewhere about a patched framework file fixing screen mirroring.
EDIT:
Apparently the patched file is only for 4.3. If you're still on 4.3, you might want to give that a shot:

Otherwise, flashing stock recovery does seem to work:

Hi blindmanpb, thanks for the reply!
Maybe my question is stupid, but Im new to it, and would like to be sure before proceeding.
So I just have to root the stock rom I got here, enable sd write on the tablet, and then upload to the tablet the file posted on your second link, using odin, just like I do with the stock rom, no special flags on odin or extra details. That's it?

You might want to use the recovery linked in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47773901&postcount=1
As far as I know, it's identical to the stock recovery for the SM-P600, but I'd use the stock recovery linked in that thread just to be safe, since it specifically mentions the SM-P601
You should be able to just flash that via Odin (you might have to boot into stock recovery once after you flash) and screen mirroring should work again.
Yes! It works! Thank you!
Just in case, to help others that find this thread in the future, I'll leave the detailed walkthrough below.
Device data first: Samsung galaxy note 2014 edition, model P601, running android kitkat 4.4.2, stock rom from samsung-updates. The rom was manually flashed using odin over the original 4.3 one (up to this point, unrooted).
Next step, I tried to use the root file on the link you posted, but it failed. It does not brick the tablet or anything like that, but it did not manage to root either. So I used an older rooting image I had here. Don't remember exactly where it came from, but the filename is CF-Auto-Root-lt033g-lt033gxx-smp601.tar.md5 . Found it on the internet on a tutorial on how to root this particular device.
Then after the reboot, one should modify what's needed. In particular, install super su in normal mode from play store, then run sdfix to enable SD card writing. Another good thing is also to set the programs you want on the lateral dock panel (the list is more complete when you root from odin than when you boot normally)
All set, power off the device, go back to odin and flash in the recovery file. This one, I used from the link you posted (recovery.tar.md5).
Reboot again, and that's it. Screencast and SD-Card write working simultaneously.
I have a VS985 LG G3. I was running marshmallow yesterday, but after trying to root and unlock mobile tethering and hotspot (because I am on unlimited data) I managed to brick my phone while typing in adb commands because my phone decided to randomly shut off. So after plugging it into the USB and figuring out a way to put it into download mode, I flashed it to VS98510B. After that, I rooted with Stump Root and installed SuperSU, following some guides. It works fine once again but I'm not where I want to be.
After multiple times trying to open adb shell and get it to just recognize my device, I'm done. I know there are people out there who know this stuff by heart, so please, at this point, just tell me what to do step by step so I can do it and move on with my life. I have spent hours upon hours on this and it never seems to just work. Please.
All I want is to be able to install the latest TWRP or whatever is recommended., and then install either the SkyDragon Rom or the stock marshmallow VS98546A rom, but with the verizon apps disabled since in one guide it warns that those report for modified device, which I am not sure what that means but it doesn't sound good.
I'm on VS98510B. Rooted and SuperSU installed.
I want to be able to use mobile hotspot and tethering.
There's just information overload to the extreme, I'm overwhelmed.
Thanks again if any help is possible.
If you're already rooted with TWRP installed, the hard part should really be over. You shouldn't need to be plugging into a computer and running adb commands at this point. You also said you need step by step instructions, and to really spell it all out would be a lot, but considering how far you already got I don't think you really need every little detail, so I'll give you the general idea then if you have questions I can try to fill those gaps.
Basically you'll need to find and download the new ROM you want. The easiest thing to do is download it directly from your phone so you don't have to mess around with transferring it from your computer to your phone. Many custom ROMs will also require Gapps, but if you're flashing a stock ROM (or a custom ROM based on stock) you don't need to do this because it's included in the ROM.
After you've downloaded the ROM (should just be a zip file), you need to reboot to recovery (TWRP). If you don't know how to do this, there's an app called Quick Reboot that can do it for you (01400) personally haven't used it but I assume it works).
Once you're in recovery, you normally want to make a backup first in case anything goes wrong. This is done by selecting the backup button. After you have a backup, you want to "wipe" data before installing. Select the wipe button, then I click advanced and select everything except internal data and external data. This will wipe all apps, settings, etc. from your phone so make sure you're ok with that before you do it,
After wiping, you're ready to install. Back at the first main screen of TWRP, select Install, then browse to where you downloaded the ROM and select it, then select the Install button and swipe to confirm. Assuming all goes well, when it's finished it'll give you the option to reboot. Do this and it should start booting up to your new ROM.
Also, you mentioned SkyDragon, but I just wanted to point out that this isn't the latest version of Android, I believe that's still Lollipop (not Marshmallow). You also mentioned not wanting your rooted status to be reported to Verizon, but if you're currently on stock, rooted, and don't have any apps disabled, then you already are running this risk.
Let me know if you have any questions. I think this will be easier than me trying to walk you through every detail and confirmation screen.
I don't have TWRP installed. What is the best course of action to take to install it?
As far as disabling verizon apps, is it as simple as just going into the application manager and disabling them or is there a tool I need to download?
Thanks for all the help so far!
I see, it's been a couple years since I installed TWRP and I was thinking it was part of the rooting process. I believe this is the post I followed to install TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-...mp-unlock-lg-g3-twrp-d852-d852g-f400-t2900614
Like I said, this was a few years ago and it's kind of a one-time thing. I don't know if there's something better available now or what, and I don't remember the details. I don't remember running into any problems, so if you happened to have any I'm not sure how good I could help.
As for disabling things, the things that need to be disabled are system apps and can't just be disabled from the stock application manager (Verizon doesn't want to make it easy for you to disable their software ). There are different ways this can be done, but I personally use Titanium Backup to disable (or "freeze" as they call it) apps. It will let you freeze anything, which also means it gives you the ability to break things, so don't just go in freezing random things. I don't remember if freezing requires the paid version of the app or not, but you can get it from the play store and find out.

As far as Titanium Backup goes, is it along the same lines as TWRP? Like do they do the same things? Do you recommend I do one over the other?
Also as far as verizon apps reporting root, what do they do and what does that matter?
Also, I'm currently dealing with the LG DemiGod Crash Handler problem that seems to have started up on my phone the other day. I'd never rooted or messed with my phone in any way and that started happening, I thought perhaps flashing a new ROM might fix it, but I guess not. If you have any sort of tips on how to fix that, other than replace the battery (which I have not yet done, but supposedly that can solve the problem) I'd be grateful.
Titanium Backup and TWRP are two different things. Titanium Backup is a "normal" app that you can get from the Play store, while TWRP is a custom recovery and isn't ran from within your ROM. TWRP lets you do full image backups of your phone (like your entire phone in a single backup) and can also be used to install ("flash") ROMs. Titanium Backup lets you backup, freeze, and uninstall specific apps.
I use them both because they both serve a specific purpose. You have to use TWRP to install ROMs, then as far as backups, I use TWRP to make a backup of everything in case I flash a ROM that I end up not liking (I can use the backup to easily go back to my previous ROM and still have apps and everything all setup just like they were). If I do like the new ROM I flashed, I'll use Titanium Backup to restore a lot of my apps/data to the new ROM (ex. text messages, my alarm clock app, etc.)
As far as Verizon knowing about your root status, honestly I'm not sure what all that would mean. I'm sure they wouldn't like it, rooting voids your warranty so you probably couldn't get things replaced under warranty, if you have insurance through Verizon they would maybe use your root status as a reason to deny a claim, etc. I don't think you'd have to worry about them calling you up or cancelling your service or anything like that, but getting them to assist you with problems might be more frustrating than usual
Regarding the demigod crash thing, I know what you're talking about but I don't really know much about it. A while ago I would get those every once in a while and it was frustrating. I think at the time I kind off wanted to try a new ROM anyways and I think I did but I still got it occasionally. Now that you mentioned it though I haven't had one in quite a while. I'm not sure if those ROMs both happened to cause it, if it was a Lollipop thing (doesn't seem like I've had it since Marshmallow), or if it's all just a coincidence or I've just been lucky. I haven't gotten a new battery though, so that's definitely not it (for me anyways).

The camera is good. as soon as I switch the video however, the quality is terrible (yes I tried 1080 and 4k, and for 1080 trying both 30fps and 60fps). For both pictures and video, there is a lot of frame skipping. I tried third party apps. the video quality is good in other apps, but still has frame skipping and even the image freezing (not the phone itself, only the viewfinder freezes) for a couple of seconds. also, the lack of video stabilization in third party apps make it so shaky that it's quite unpleasant if I move at all. troubleshooting steps google gave me didnt work, as well as factory resetting and flashing the factory image again. I was offered a replacement but I already replaced my phone for camera issues. Help!
I am having battery problems as well, but i should probably make a separate thread for that.
Well, if you haven't already, try a factory reset. It can be a pain but it may fix both issues. Also, are you stock, rooted, etc.?

I tried that, and all troubleshooting steps google gave me, as well as flashing the factory image (multiple times but that was to update my rooted phone).
My phone is stock. I'm not rooting anymore because I'm tired of all my data being wiped so I can update (If you have any steps I can follow to update a rooted pixel without losing any data/settings that would be infinitely appreciated!). I don't want a custom rom, loving stock on this phone.

If you re-flashed the factory firmware and took a video and used the built-in app to view the video and see lots of frames missing/skipping, then I'd send the phone back for warranty.
But only if you tried this BEFORE installing all your third party apps that can sometimes screw with other things.

You can update without losing all your stuff. Download the latest factory image that you need to update to. Extract the archive and find the flash_all (.Sh for Linux, .Bat for Windows) right click it and open with notepad. Down near the bottom you'll see a line that says something like "fastboot -w update blah blah". Remove the -w parameter so instead it looks like "fastboot update blah blah". Now when you run it to flash the newest image, it won't wipe any data and everything will be as you left it, just like you took an OTA.
As far as the camera thing goes, grab a camera APK from a lineage rom, from what I've read it takes use of our image stabilization however you loose HDR.

And okay. I can't find the lineageOS camera apk for the pixel though. Where is it at?
Somewhere in the questions subsection there is a thread named "lineage 14" or something similar. They are trying out lineage and you can find links a few pages in.

I just rooted my brand new OP5T and ever since I've been experiencing problems. If I download anything through the browser I get errors saying that the download could not continue because it can't find my SD card even though this phone doesn't use cards.
Also, if I connect it to my PC under file transfer I can't transfer files, but if I connected it to my pc mounted in TWRP then it works just fine.
Anyone any idea on how to solve these problems? I already tried a factory reset...
It would also seem as though taking pictures, seeing pictures, music and video doesn't work either any more...
Nothing like this here. I would suggest repeating the whole process using:
[TOOL][OP5T] TOOL ALL IN ONE (Drivers|Unlock|TWRP|Factory Image|Stock Recovery)
Nothing like this for me too. Rooted, kernel changed and TWRP and all fine.

A bit of backstory: I was tasked with "reviving" a couple of Samsung tablets, of which my main focus has been an old SM-T210.
The whole idea was to utilize custom ROMS to get it working properly again (surprise surprise, it didn't work.)
Alas, I followed the summary of about four instructional videos on how to run TWRP on the device. I had made a backup of the system and everything had been going well... Until I wiped everything on the device and decided to install a new ROM.
As it turned out, I found it next to impossible to find a new ROM to run on the afforementioned device. This meant I had to re-install the backup to get it working. This recovery, however, brought with it multiple problems.
Firstly, the power button does not function properly anymore (ie. It doesn't display the power off and restart functionality, rather turning off the tablet completely). Secondly, an app called "Factory mode" appears; when opened it looks like a miscoded calculator with no actual functionality whatsoever. Finally, and most concerning, whenever on the home menu or the app drawer, a notice with black background yellow letters appears; it reads the specs of the tablet. It doesn't take up all the screen space, nor does it appear when utilizing any application.
I am confused and quite concerned about these problems, and wanted to ask: can anyone help me with this? Is there even a fix to it?
