Hi Guys,
Just had my Sony Arc S, love the phone, I previously had a Samsung GS2 and Desire and fiddled about with them rooted custom firmware etc.
Problem is I'm finding the Arc quite confusing here are some questions below hopefully someone can help, btw I have done a lot of reading before posting this but I'm still confused.
1. Is the Sony Arc "S" unlocked with regards to the bootloader?, I have checked with the *#*#7378423#*#* sony give and mine says allowed "yes".
2. I would like to install a better kernel (maybe doom kernel?), can someone recommend one, also im currently on 0.42 should I be going to 0.62?
3. In what order must I unlock bootloader, root, and install kernel or custom rom also how will I get CWM on?
4. Whats the easiest method of unlocking the bootloader, and rooting I have seen zerg one click does this work?
5. Will I have to partition my sd card to use link2sd or any other app to sd app if so what ext and swap do I need?.
Basically I'm really confused the GS2 was a lot more straight forward than the arc, the 0.42, and 0.62 is that the original kernel and if so if I installed doom kernel would it just write over it?.
What I would like is to make my Arc S the best it can be in terms of free space, speed and battery, I really like the Sony OS and dont really think ill be putting a custom rom on there as I like the sony widgets also unless someone can recommend one.
Also I'm looking forward to ICS coming out in march, will I be able to officially upgrade after unlocking the bootloader and rooting?.
Thanks kindly guys for all your help
Mav
1 . Bootloader is unlockable.. but not unlocked.. you'll need to go here to unlock it.
2. Latest version of doomkernel is very good.. I'm running it overclocked to 1.6Ghz. following the instructions on his thread for that.
3. You should unlock the BL then install the the f/w you want..then install the kernel.. then if it's not pre-rooted.. root it! Think Doomkernel is pre-rooted actually!
4. Not required!
5. If you're using the Android facility to move apps to SD you don't need to partition.. you only need that for link2SD..
Hope that helps!

You should also install the latest version of V6 Supercharger to make your home screen stable and smoother..
There's a few tweaked versions of the SE system on the dev pages if you fancy a try..
The SE stuff is actually dead easy once you've done it a couple of times..
You should also download x10 flashtool which makes it easy flashing roms (standard SE ones from different regions, or tweaked, or completely customised!)
and yes - you'll still be able to upgrade to ICS.. just not through the Sony update service - you'll have to wait til someone posts the new firmware on here (which will usually be within about 5 minutes of it being made live!!)..
Hi Iceman,
We only need goose now LOL.
Im Still a little confused is 0.42 and 0.62 the radio then?, does that mean I can unlock bootloader then upgrade radio to 0.62?.
also how do I install the doomkernel without having clockwork installed must it be done through adb?
with the SE roms you say there are some tweaked ones out there any good ones you have tried?
I will def take your advice and install V6 Supercharger to hopefully make it run smoother.
I came from having the GS2 which I loved but I sold it on for £310 and got a very reasonable contract with the arc s, tbh I love the look of the phone and the SE OS, it is IMO much nicer than touchwiz, but I do find it lags slightly when there are lots of widgets on screen.
Anyway thanks a lot for your help, much appreciated
Hi - I'm only using stock SE firmware, which I'm then tweaking myself - with things like v6, removing unwanted system apps etc (using titanium).
.42 and .62 are the firmware versions... there are also basebands which control the radio and they end with . numbers too.. but you needn't worry too much about that initially.
once you've unlocked the boot loader you can download the kernel and put it in your adb folder on your PC.. then type fastboot flash boot filename.img (where filename.img is the actual name of the kernel you've downloaded and stored in your adb folder).. this will flash the kernal onto your phone...
V6 is awesome.. I've selected the options make the launcher "bulletproof" and "balanced 3" for the memory management.. The only thing that holds the arc back from being as good as the SGS2 is the lack of memory (which is why V6 is so good as it sorts out the memory management really well).

(PS - you can be my wing man anytime!)
Haha (you can be mine LOL!)
Right things starting to clear up slowly LOL, I've just connected my phone now and PC companion is asking me to upgrade to 0.62, should I do that first then unlock bootloader then kernel, I think i'll be like you and just tweak the stock rom rather than installing a new one as I think there's not many out there that are hugely improved.
I like the idea of removing all the crap apps though and will look into that as long as I dont **** anything up LOL.
Thanks again buddy
No worries.. go for the upgrade.. it'll be easier than doing it after you've unlocked the BL..
If you use titanium you can freeze stuff before you remove it altogether to make sure the phone works ok without it!.
Just one thing I've thought of.. is your Arc S unbranded? you may not be able to unlock the BL via the SE unlock tool if it is BRANDED..
Yes the phone is unbranded, a little worried as some peps are stressing when they upgraded to 0.62 with regards to rooting, this is really whats confusing me, dont want to upgrade then not be able to root or unlock BL etc thats why I asked
didnt know that about titanium thats handy! lets me mess about LOL
don't worry about rooting... if you unlock the BL and instlall doomkernel v18 you'll have root.. I'm running .62 and fully rooted via the kernel...
in any case you can always use flashtool to change the firmware back to .42 if you want to!.. flashtool works in the same way as SEUS or PC Companion, only it allows you to choose which firmware to install..
---------- Post added at 11:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:24 PM ----------
The bootloader and kernel sit "beneath" the firmware (.42/ .62) so it's not affected by what's above it in the stack.
Brilliant thanks for clearing that up iceman, so its upgrade to 0.62 then off to unlock BL, install doomkernel v18 via adb, custom rom if wanted or remain on stock and install supercharger, then titanium backup freeze apps trial and error then time to get rid of crap apps thorugh file explorer.
Sounds good, hopefully it will all go well.
All your help was much appreciated
No problem. You can also uninstall apps through titanium too (including system apps)... It's pretty powerful!

Well managed to upgrade to .62 and unlock BL, install Doom Kernel and wifi modules and have started to remove some bloatware using Flo's tut, was just wondering if the following apps could be removed?
facebook music and vids & games & apps
livewire manager
video unlimited
Also had a look at the tut for super charger v6 and looks really compilcated is it def worth having on the phone?
Finally if I was to do a full reset after removing bloatware would .62, doomkernel, root etc all still be there and would removing bloatware cause anything like bootloops etc?, just want to be on the safe side just in case I need to restart the phone.
Thanks Iceman
I'd keep the liveware manager.. the others you can get rid of..
V6 looks quite complex, but if you just step through it it's not so bad... a mate of mine did a detailed tut for it here... might help.. you probably only need section 3 though!
If you did a factory reset it would leave the kernel and .62 firmware, think the bloatware would stay gone too..
Hi iceman,
I've pretty much done everything to my phone apart from the supercharger, thanks for the link i've looked into it and it doesnt seem that hard but i've come up against a problem.
I recently bought a gold sim card number from ebay and ported it from vodafone to my current sim virgin, the number got ported so when I phone it comes up with my new gold number, but my arc keeps on displaying my old number in the contacts and its really confusing me so I've tried everything, battery out, simcard out etc etc this didnt work. So I decided to full factory reset the phone and reset everything as well, it did as you said on your previous post and kept 0.62, doom kernel and most of the junk apps were gone but not all, anyways on testing everything was ok apart from the wifi not connecting and also the home key doesnt work??.
So again i've tried factory reset, putting all the junk apps back in, battery out and even flashing doomkernel again but nothing, i'm kinda wishing I was back on stock right now LOL.
I know these may be tricky problems but do you have any advice with regards to the sim card number and also the home button and wifi problem?, ps home button does function as it works in CWM.
Thanks a lot
Mav
Hi! First I think I can help you about Wi-Fi. Did you forgot to instal MODULES for DooMKernel (v15 onwards)? Don't know what your homebuton problem might be.
And my questions:
1.Can I change baseband from -36 to -64 at any time, or must I flash whole ROM or Kernel again?
2.Will I be able to uninstall V6 Supercharger if I want to?
3.How could I made whole backup of my ROM (using arconium 6.1)?
1. Yes, just flash thecrequiered libs
2. Yes, there's an uninstall option.
3. Using clockwordmod recovery

The phone number problem is an android issue - nothing to do with the phone per se... you'll need to put your new sim card into a different non-android phone and update the "my phone number" settings... (I used my old Samsung Tocco!)..
Wifi - you may need to re-install the wifi libs as per SEK610i's suggestion..
Regarding home button... mmm.. never seen that before!.. have you got root explorer or other file manager?
Have a look in here... /system/usr/keylayout/pm8058-keypad.kl
does key102 say "home wake_dropped" next to it? it should!

Hey Iceman,
Thanks for the reply, I had modules installed for wifi. Didnt know that about a ported number only problem no old phones LOL, nevermind will have to just add a new my number 2 or something.
Anyways managed to sort the home key issue, after installing arconium 7.02 beta, I installed arconium 6.01 and all works well.
I should have done this at the start rather than delete the junk apps myself as arc 6.01 works really well.
Infact I have setcpu installed the phone is on brazilian wax and it is as smooth as the GS2 now, even with a big live wallpaper for the background.
So I'm really happy now, I also installed volume + to try and sort out some sound issued im having basically the microphone is a little crackly and vibrates when listening to some songs and youtube vids, volume + has improved it a bit, I know its not my phone as my previous arc s also had it and I sent it back thinking it was faulty, although that was also restarting itself from time to time too.
Anyway thanks very much for all your help you've been a star mate!.
always happy to help a 1990's throw back top of the class, american fighter pilot, like myself!
hehehe
sorry If you drop your coffee its just me and goose doing a flyby!
Hi Iceman,
Any chance you could help please?,
Just managed to create my own Rom I know unbelievable right?, well I used bits and bobs from the Arc rom, used dooms kernel, and bits from themes and new s apps etc and tweaked a bit with lovely new themes and voila perfect.
problem is being too much of a smart arse I formatted my sd card just as I was about to install an updated leaner rom that i'd made, so i decided I would just connect the phone up to fastboot and install the rom from there.
Well I thought the system command was to install a rom, so i typed fastboot flash system "my roms name and .zip at the end it erased then wrote quite quickly and alarm bells started to ring cos I thought no way thats installed a rom.
Anyways I just get doom kernels logo now and nothing else it wont go further for me to get into CWM.
Although its allowing me into fastboot so hopefully its not bricked.
I'll post this question in main thread also, as I'm stressed LOL!
Cheers
Mate

Hey Everyone,
am new to Android World and recently i bought Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S and i upgraded my Android to ICS 4.0.4 but it seems that a lot of things are still annoying ..
i've encountered several issues and i need your suggestions to fix them.
1- WiFi connection isn't stable at all, the signal is weak and am just near the router, not to mention that its always disconnecting and trying to reconnect for 10000 times and no hope till i restart the router itself.
2- i can't move all the apps into the SD and thats cause of low space on the internal memory and cause a really slow device movements.
3- Battery drain fast and a over heat the back side of the phone while using the phone.
the thing that i've read a lot about changing the KERNEL and the ROM, however i found many people suggested "Trinity Kernel V1.6 ICS" and "MooDeD ICS 90.1".
do you think that if i do change up my kernel and the ROM .. my problems will be fixed and i can at least move all my apps into the SD instead of the internal memory ??
Try reinstalling the firmware. After that, root it and use Link2SD. That should solve your memory issues anyway.
There's a well-written guide over at XperiaBlog on setting Link2SD up.

thanks for replying back dude ..
1st thing, can you give me some links for those guides ??
2nd thing .. what about installing the KERNEL and ROM into my device .. do you suggests them for my phone ??
bro am too newbie for this things and am trying to understands it to apply it
1. No wifi problems on stock 4.0.4...better try a custom kernel if u really want.
2. as xtacy said use link2sd
3. no..i disagree with you..battery life on stock 4.0.4 is very satisfying..I suggest you to try Arconium ROM which is a custom stock rom and very nicely tweaked. U will face heating problem when you r doing some heavy stuff like playing game or using 3G, etc..or else in normal usage it is not hot at all.
I really suggest you to try custom kernel and ROMs. trinity kernel and mooded rom has a huge battery drain problem...so i suggest you to try ArcKnight kernel or Xarc with Arconium ICS..
try it and let us know

[KERNEL][ARC/ARC S]ArcKnight Kernel RC_3.3 (TEST Versions)- ICS/ Update June 22nd!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597771
should i install ArcKnight_Kernel_RC_3.1 or the test one 3.3
whats the deference between Main Kernel and Wifi Modules for Kernel?

[ROM][ARC/ARC S] Arconium ICS 4.0 - Yep, it's here [FW:431][14 June]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1515148
if u have no plans of overcloking then try ArcKinght Main Kernel _ Stock Based CPU RC3.3
,,u will get better battery life..
main kernel is the kernel..and wifi modules is required for WIfi..thoese are to be flash through CWM recovery..
and yes that the Arconium ICS...
OK let me put all these information straight ...
1. I don't have to change the Kernel from the original one or as you called it Stock Kernel to anything else .. since its came with good performance. (frankly after reading all the installation methods and steps i was afraid to burn my phone up hehe)
2. My phone build number now is (4.1.B.0.431) Android Version (4.0.4) is good to have Arconium ICS on it immediately.
3. Installing Link2SD app will help me moving all my apps into the SD card, and not like App2SD.
if you agree with me on the above points so am going to install it ride a way and test it ..
can i ask one more favor .. is there any guides for newbies about installing ROMs or like Step-By-Step manual .. am afraid to do something wrong ..
don't hit me please .. but what do you mean by "Reboot into CWM" how to do so
although .. i've read that i need to flash the device using the provided ftf file .. but where to get the flash tool to do it ..
another thing .. is this kind of ROMs comes rooted or not ?
and is it necessarily to have a Unlocked bootloader device and how to do it tho ..
sorry guyz if am being asking a lot of questions but am still new to this .. and i really need to learn ..

1. You dont have to change the kernel but u will have more flexibility to choose governors and IO schedulers and phone will be pretty smooth. But if u want to stick to stock kernel then flash .431 advanced stock kernel which comes with cwm recovery.
2.yes you are good to go even if your phone had 2.3.4
3. Yes...but do not move any system apps
Flashtool is in development section...here is the order
- Flash Custom kernel(If u want stock kernel then flash .431 advanced stock kernel) and No need to flash baseband 72 as you already have
- Enter cwm recovery
-Flash ROM[before flashing rom do a clean wipe(wipe data,cache)]
-Flash wifi modules if required
- Reboot and you are done
bro am totally confused now with the steps you gave me .. am still noob into all of this and really sorry if am taking a lot of your time helping me ...
the thing is that am downloading the flashtool from this link
http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
am i right on this ??
now you're telling me that it would be easier to have a custom Kernel like the ArcKnight .. so i will go for it as per your advice ..
but i need a really HUGE support to give STEP-BY-STEP guide or video which it can help me to do all the requeired actions since i dont know how to do the flash exactly and how to do the other steps and what to click on the phone ..
i've found some videos but for other Kernel and other ROM but not for the ones you suggested to me ..
is there any videos you can give me to do the whole update ??
1- Flashing the Device.
2- Install the Custom Kernel.
3- Install the Custom ROM.
yes..download the flashtool and install it and open it
- power off the phone
- hold 'back" key and plug in usb cable..u will enter fastboot mode now..it should say device in fastboot mode in flashtool also.
- now on flashtool, click on that 'lightening icon button' and select fastboot mode
- then click on "select kernel to flash" and browse the *.img file and flash it
- once successful reboot and get back here
The steps will be the same.
Mate, first thing you need to do is go through the stickied threads. Tons of guides out there.
Next, using the Search feature will provide you with your answers.
It's worth the time to read all of them. We all did.
Now if you're stuck after all that, then come and ask. We'd be happy to help.
And if you have a doubt regarding a particular kernel or ROM, post your query in the respective thread. What better way to get answers than from the developer or the user of that ROM/kernel?

Is it me or has every arc got a wifi signal issue, only issue is that the signal is weaker than usual same room tried with two routers walk behind the desk and the signal drops by one bar on the wifi signal thingy, two state of the art routers, what could be the problem ?
Hello everyone,
im new in this forum, and two devices with android, the first is the "asus transformer prime" and the second is a new cellphone - Sony Xperia Arc S - and this is the problem.
I really dont like what sony do the android, the interface, beside iam very familiar with standart ICS in my "Prime" so i search a bit and found some posts about Cyanogen 9 (talking about performance ans stuff), but in that same posts i read that CM9 is only for "Xperia Arc" not "xperia arc S" and i need to use some external "kernell" to be loaded.
My questions are:
What i need to do to install CM9 at "arc s"?
What the procedures?
I need a external "kernel" or just extract the zip (cm-9.1.0-anzu.zip) and get the *.img ?
What is the easyest method to install it?
Can send me a easy guide to do it?
and finally. it will work in portugal? with the operator TMN?
Can someone post the link for one guide to do the install, that actually works?:fingers-crossed:
Thanks in advance for the answers
If i can make a clean and smooth install, for sure i will donate
(sorry my english)
p.s- i know they are a lot of posts about this, but is because that i cant find my way through they.

2. Install a Recovery (there are some around this forum)
3. Wipe (only required 1st time)
4. Flash Rom

please advice,,

Hi all!
Hi!
to flash the kernel you'll need to do it via Fastboot. There are some guides in this section to help you get CWM recovery easily, but if you're a noob like me I'd give try to Flashtool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000012).
It's a little program that helps you out flashing kernels, roms and some other joyful gift from xda...
Try it out and let me know!
For the ROM/Kernel choice if you want a clean AOSP (android stock) experience go with the FXP CM9 or AOKP (for a little more customization)... If you browse the "Android Development" section you're going to find plenty about it and in the related thread you'll find some help with kernel choice!
I actually am on JJ's Hybrid Rom with ArcKnight kernel, it's based on Sony's firmware but looks like aosp (I don't like the CM9 camera) and it's really smooth!
Cheers and let me know if I helped you out! :fingers-crossed:

Hi ,
I believe you
Really helpfull man, i take a look at your description and look really nice room.
And i even have a option to install it with "Locked Bootloaders"(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673489) so if someting goes wrong i can restore the phone with Sony software (SEUS).
Can you tell me if this are the files you use? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1537717) you apply the patch too?
Im really happy with your feedback (i can see now some light at the end of the tunel)
To finish i have just one more litle question. is about the "baseband".
I am im Portugal and my phone is under TMN phone line. do you know if this rooms works fine? (i suppose it works because you can update too official ICS before start installing JJ's Hybrid Rom, but can you confirm this?) my thought is correct?
Best regards, and thanks for the reply.
Yeah that's the thread!
I applied the patch but it works just fine as it is, even without it!
baseband should be no problem, the problem is combination rom/baseband and not baseband/network (dunno if I can explain myself, sorry about it).
In other words, if your phone is on ics .431 stock and you flash this, you'll get the same baseband and everything's gonna work out!
I unlocked my bootloader so I'm not familiar with that kind of install but it should be even easier.
Let me know if you need any help about it, I hope we are not going too much OT!
Happy to help!

Nice :good:
i understand what you try to explain about baseband. no worry
dont know yet if i install this room by "unlocked bootloader" or "locked".
The Locked version have some vantages right? if i want to go to stock ics i can keep update the cellphne by Sony software. But im wondering, how many time the sony will update this phone? maybe not much,,because already listen someone say it will no get jellybean official update, so im really think in "unlock bootloader".
about the patch, how apply the pacth? right after instal the room, or reboot a couple of times them instal the patch?
by the way can you send me a link with the method to install it? dont want to mess with the room itself.
Thanks for all the support , really appreciate :highfive:
well,
I think this thread is the best if you need some guidance, I don't think I'd be better that this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653188
Anyway if you unlock your BL, I'd proceed like this afterwards:
-backup all the things you need to keep from your phone because you're gonna delete all the data!
-download Flashtool, install all the drivers inside the drivers folder after the install, launch it and try to get your phone in "fastboot mode" (click on the lightning and select fastboot, then pick the button that suites you better )
-download the kernel you chose and flash the img by pressing "flash kernel img" in the fastboot menu (you may need to flash wifi modules later, so download them and put them inside your sd card
-download the .zip file of the rom you chose and put it inside your sd card
-ALWAYS DISCONNECT YOUR PHONE FROM CABLE BEFORE YOU TURN IT ON, not always, but sometimes it makes android crash
-turn on your phone and keep pressing volume down till you get to recovery
-select "wipe data/factory reset", "wipe cache", go to "advanced" and select "wipe dalvik cache"
-select "install...." (second option in the main menu) and then install from sd card and pick the ROM file...
-after the flash is over, do the last step again and select the WIFI MODULES
-reboot to system, check if everything's working, if you want to apply the patch (in JJ's rom case) turn off your phone, get to recovery again and install the related zip...
Anyway I hope I'll not be held responsible if your phone is gonna explode, mine didn't!

well,
I think this thread is the best if you need some guidance, I don't think I'd be better that this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653188

Hi, once again THANKS for this mini tutorial
No worry you will not be responsible if my phone meltdown , i know flashing is always a little risky, but if something goes wrong most of the time only need to rooting again e flash it. (little chance of burning literally the phone, only if doing insane overclocks), beside i try the "locked bootloade" first so, i think is even easier to restore factor ICS if something bad happens.(hope not) :fingers-crossed:
-when you install the patch, you don't clean cache or something? just install?
-about the hifi modules, i should install it or only if my wifi not work?
in my work days i don't have time to do this procedure but in weakend i want apply this. Really lov the stock ICS look, not that changed version of sony (i mean, is pretty, but don't like)
Thanks for all the help.
I didnt wipe cache or dalvik when I applied the patch... Wifi modules are linked with the kernel you choose, so if you dont flash them, wifi won't work...so "yes" is the answer in any case! let me know if everything works out!

You should when flashing any new ROM because it rules out any issues that might a rise after installing.

Not needed, but there is a baseband for CM9 which is in the thread, up to you if you want to use it or not.
Questions go to Q&A.
Also most of your questions would be answered, had you taken the time to read through the forums and search.

Hi, o.k e see.
i tell you if everything works and my opinion about the room .
by the way, im thinking in root the phone before doing the rooming just to test something, remove bloatware on xperia. My friend speak about this http://www.unlockroot.com/, do you know if its work? because as far as i know we need to downgrade the ics 4.0.4 to 4.0.3 to apply the rooting.
have a nice day , and thanks for your fast reply to all my doubts

humm, i see, thanks for the clarification
can i ask you something subjective?
if i root the xperia ics stock room, and clean all bloatware, really i need a new room? i mean. it will be more stable? or what i will benefit from it?
Thanks, best regards

You'll have more system space, probably your phone will be smoother and stable.
Anyway, IMHO:
-change kernel if you're looking for performance improvement, overclocking/undervolting or some particular feature
-change rom if you find some features you'd like/need that are not inside the stock one or if you want to customize it.

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback
I first ill try rooting and after that maybe a new room, but i confess, i am a Little scarred, don't want to brick my phone .
Speaking in root, do you have some thoughs about this? http://www.unlockroot.com/, to rooting the phone? (i am in ICS 4.0.4 - 4.1.B.0.431)
(this weakend i have played with the phone, photos, system, etc,, and this is a great phone for a single core, really fast, my fried have a galaxy S3 and the diference is not so much and the price is more them 2x more)
take care, and thanks for all the help and feedbacks.
First things first. I unlocked my R800x' bootloader today!! :highfive:
Now comes the tricky part!
I'm using R800x in India with a different carrier. I have got 2 questions
1) Now, in case of factory reset, i can get to work my carrier settings by dumping the PRL and NVdump by using CDMA workshop tool. But, when my friend who also have a similar R800x with same carrier, can't do it after settings reset(factory reset no worries). What do in this case?
2)If I flash a new rom and/or a kernel will my call and data settings go away?
Thanks in advance for any help!
actually u can try re-activate the service by dialing *228 1st,
it work in my country,
but it still depends on your carrier..
btw, for the stuff about QPST which u ask in DM, u need to make sure u know all the informatiuon u need about your carrier config to make it work.

I cant say with any certainty about your call settings, carrier settings ,etc as I am on VZ. But I would think just flashing a new kernel would be fine, I dont think that would wipe any carrier settings (if I am wrong can someone correct me)
I use Doomkernel V2 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1368636
Make sure to also download the wifi modules and save those on a place in your sdcard.
To flash the DoomKernel type the following command once you are in fastboot mode (blue light on power button, via pressing the search button while powered off)
fastboot flash boot "whatever name doomkernel is title, I titled mine DKv2-CDMA.zip
So again for reference with mine:
fastboot flash boot DKv2-CDMA.zip (then press enter, and it should start to flash, only takes a couple seconds at most)
Then power on device and when yo usee the blue light on your power button with the DoomKernel screen press the back button and you will be in the recovery, using the on screen arrows I use Recovery version 4. Then scroll down to "Backup/Restore" and select backup using the on screen button on the bottom right, then make a nandroid backup. Once its done making a backup. Press the back button on the screen, bottom left, until you are back on the main menu. Then scroll down to "Install zip from Sdcard". And then scroll through to the DoomKernel wifi modules, and once you see it highlight it and select it to install. This will install the correct modules for DoomKernel so your wifi will work. After all is said and done parhaps you should make a nandroid after you flash wifi modules not before. Anyways once all is done reboot your phone and you will be golden. I use no frills from the market to OC my phone to 1.2ghz on Performance & BFQ. But thats personal preference.
Anyways good luck and if you have more issues and or questions post here.,
Thanks ozzmanj1(earlier name was cool ) for your valuable inputs. Also, will this work with 2.3.2 as my phone is running on that? Also, after overclocking do i need to change voltage levels, as you mentioned in private chat that at 1.4 GHz you mobile back was getting hot. Maybe, it has something do with the processor demanding more current from the battery(I'm not sure). Whats BFQ? Anyways, thanks!!

If you use No Frills CPU you dont have to mess with the voltages, there are advantages to using other CPU overclock apps where you can take over what the voltages are but I have never messed with them, and simply use No Frills as its quick and easy. BFQ tells the phone how to perform, such as running at a constatn speed for quick high perfoirmance or use a different I/O scheduler to keep better battery life.

ozzmanj1, Since my R800x is running on 2.3.2, can you please guide me step-by-step as to how I would start about flashing doom kernel v2 as well as that timescape from UK firmware thread?
Sorry for asking a lot. But, i really don't know where to start!
I would really be happy if i get timescape+mediascape plus overclocking running on my phone. Just dunno where to begin
Anyways, thanks in advance
Flashing new kernel sometimes causing bootloop if u didn't do wipes to system n userdata
Also some kernel bring in different baseband, and changing baseband cause ur phone to lost it network setting, thus u need to re-activating it later..

To flash new kernel u can use fastboot or flashtool
Find a thread that give u download link for both tools, those thread will show u how to use it as well

Well I've flashed 2.3.3 firmware with timescape and doomkernel and supercharged as well. And I'm loving it.
So i finally got my Xperia Play R800i and unlocked it. So now i have full fastboot access (which i havnt used much in the past so im a little rusty). While browsing the forums for Clockwork mod and roms and kernels i find myself having a few problems. I cant find clockwork mod (does it exist for this phone? or TWRP?) and also I have NO idea which rom to choose and there are SOOO many. I could really use a little run down and some recommendations here. Anything would be great

As an XDA rule you can't post asking for recommendations of ROMs/kernels (otherwise thread will be closed) u are beet trying them out for yourself. But if u want gaming you should stick with GingerBread. With XP u can't flash recoveries they are built into the kernels ramdisk. Yes there is TWRP but common problem with TWRP is not backing up of android secure.

Lol I just knew someone was going to rules me on the "dont ask about roms its bad 4 u". Theres so many threads for roms.....im not going to be able to try them all, and some of them are broken or not worth flashing. I just wanted some info because ive never owned a sony device and this one has so many caveats that one would only know from either being here from the beginning or getting advice. pardon if i seem to be rude, im just confused and trying to get a feel for how this device works. If i cant flash recoveries how do i flash things? Fastboot(can you flash roms with fasboot??) how do i know if a kernel is antiquated and will break things? Flashtool also seems confusing to me. And again as far as asking about which roms people suggest I wasnt asking for "whats the best? Flame on!" which is what that rule is there to prevent. I simple asked for a recommendation as i have no foundry or basis of where to start. I know im one of a hundred people that has asked and will ask these questions....but isnt that what were here for?

I'm not flaming, if you took it that way it is not the intended purpose. I'm just saying "recommendations for ROM's" can be preceived as asking for the best ROM by some users, which will then mean your thread will be closed. A good place to see which ROMs/Kernels others are using is this thread in general http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2235336. Anyway to what you are asking. Flashtool may look a bit daunting, but is one of the easiest tools to use.
RC fma has some good guides. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2054486 - will help you with flashing an FTF (flashmode)
or this one For flashing kernel and custom ROMs. -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2054512.
To get recovery on your device you must flash a kernel first via fastboot mode (refer to the guide above). Then you can flash a ROM via CWM or TWRP as you usually would.
Hey I really appreciate the info and feedback. This device feels so foreign to me for some reason but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. Installed doomkernel14 with fastboot then figured out the weird tap back key to get into recovery. And now I'm on a GB ROM that is so much faster than stock. Coming into a old phone that's new to you is kinda like coming into the last 5 minutes of a class before a test hah.

No worries. Ye its actually easier then any other device I own (non-Sony). Ye it depends on kernel. Mine u need to press vol down for CWM and volume up for TWRP. Also a heads up, in case u ever flash one of my kernels. U will need to flash phoenix_vendor.ftf to have unlocked vendor partitions. This is to accommodate for custom partitions. Basically /system and /cache are shrunk to give 600mb+ storage in data.
U will need to flash the phoenix-vendor.ftf first then in fast boot
Code:
fastboot erase userdata && fastboot erase system
Then boot to recovery and flash ROM as usual. Sounds a bit daunting but isn't at all. I'd recommend that if u bought the device for gaming stick with GingerBread, welcome to and enjoy the XP forums.

Right now im using AtoMic GB - PLAY r2 and i reallly like it (along with DooMKerneL14). One thing that i wonder if you could help me with tho. No matter what I do when im in an emulator the circle button always takes me out of the emulator. Any way to actually have it just work like normal? It didnt do that on stock from what i remember. Also what is all that Vendor ftf stuff? Is there a thread that explains any of that stuff? Thanks again!
only flash the vendor-unlocked ftf when needed. vendor is a usually locked partition. with ics it got unlocked and more space for the rom and kernel was there.
it's hard to find the right one for oneself. look in every thread and it's features, check the comments if no serious problems are accuring (well you can't really count on them) and try it.
ask yourself first: what features do you really -need-
about the circle-button issue: can be emulator related. some aren't optimized for the play (circle is in fact nearly the same as the back-button - just with an ALT modifier) try another one (hint: retroarch r16)
it also can be the rom (wrong build.prop entries or the keylayout files are not right).
In this case its the rom because other people reported the same problem. Anyways I'd recommend you use xperia nxt 2 r1. It has a similar look and no bugs that I noticed. (Emulators play fine) everything works

Well thanks anyways, you offer a great service
I got one too but it has 4.4.2 kikat on it,I rooted it with Kingroot and it still works Whew..!
So my question is first of all, if I use a root tool to root a phone then where is the password for root ? I want to change it to something secure obviously so someone in china does not have root control of my device as well as thousands of others. I used the newest version 4.5 and it installed at least 2 other apps that I want to toss as well.Another question ,Even though I got it rooted it is incapable of moving apps to SD and seems the ROM was stripped of the capability intentionally. Is there an alternate custom ROM for this device?
Any custom recovery for this phone??? This would be greatly appreciated Im smart enough to flash one just dont know how to port one read thw guides so no links to doing it my self just help please
Jacblack, did you find a solution for moving apps to the sd card?
I too have a Blu Advance 4.0L that hasn't yet been rooted. Much like everyone else I run out of room after installing a single game, despite having a 8gb sd card in the phone. Pathetic how Google designed this, ain't it?
Tried moving the apps to the sd card, managed to install another small game and once again out of room. Is my best bet rooting the phone? Scared to do it now seeing how it can be bricked, should Blu update it as Deuler93 has learned the hard way.
Wtf is the use of a phone if you can't install apps to it? Is this the norm with Android phones? I'm used to iphones and still scratching my head trying to understand how incredibly pathetic Android is, if in fact you are unable to take advantage of the space in the sd card. Am I missing something? Can it really be this retarded?
want to network unlock the blu advance 4.0 can anyone help

>I believe that this phone is only available as a "network unlocked" phone. So you don't need to unlock it, just take it to the carrier you want.
>Mine has Android 4.4.2
>My experience so far has been that I can install apps on internal or external storage. I have about 2gb usable internal storage. But with not even 1/2 gb total ram, most of my games are useless because they crash.
>I've tried towelroot and it didn't work. The Kingroot app has always given me trouble with other phones so I would be very cautious when using it and when uninstalling it. It will automatically try to install it's own apps.
>Better than some other cheap phones because USB OTG and mobile wifi hotspot are supported

Hey you might want to take the time to learn how to back up the user data through the recovery and then if you need to you could just do a factory reset before updating. Yours seems to be different but when I tried to update mine, it was have problems getting and unzipping the update. Eventually it seemed to work but now it just says "no command". If yours still works, try turning it off, and turn it on while holding the volume down button. Go into recovery mode, and that will give you some options to explore.
