Looking for an Xperia Arc S - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
I'm looking to buy a brand new Xperia Arc S in black. Does anyone know where I can find one at a good price? Also they must ship to Canada. I did google some sites and most of them are priced over $410 and shipping to Canada is $75. A lot of sites are backordered as well.
Forgot to add, the version I'm looking for is the LT18a.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

This **** don't come for free if you want a smart phone your going to have to pay for one just like I did I have white Arc for sale and it pisses me off when people say that 440 is to much for it when I paid 550 for original Arc cheap ass good luck with your search cause your not going to find a brand new Lt18a for less then that.

Don't get rude man

Thanks "Flo95" and "rashid.fairus" for sticking up for me. Not too many people will stick up for a female on many phone forums these days. So I'm giving the 2 of you a "thanks".
BTW, I just ordered a BNIB LT18a from a Canadian retailer. I know I paid more than I should have. And most people will say why not wait for the newer Sony devices. I had the original Arc and there's something about that phone that I grew to love. However it lagged a lot. I am hoping the Arc S will be better. I have watched some reviews and they did say there is little or no lag compared to the Arc. I guess it depends on how many apps and the type of apps you install. I can't wait to get it!

i know it sucks how that guy acted. anyway, wheres the old arc? a lot of tweaks and mod would have helped you out! zero lags and performance equal to arc s! by overclocking and much more stuff!

no different at all between those two, just the max cpu freq, try unlock and rooting, and you'll see galaxyS2 as a garbage

Thank you. I bought it from Rogers and returned it. The buyout price from Rogers is $475 + taxes. There isn't a huge price difference between the Arc and the Arc S I ordered. The Arc S is $500 with free shipping. If I don't like it, I have 30 days to return it. So I thought why not give it a try. Plus I got my colour of choice, glossy black.
So if I was to root the Arc S, wouldn't it be faster as well?

It's funny you mentioned the Galaxy S2 because I was trying to decide between the S2 and Arc S. I was playing UNO on the S2 last night and it lagged a few times. I was surprise to see that considering a lot of S2 users claim it's the fastest Android to date. Once I get my Arc S, I will be on here asking for help in terms of rooting it.
Thanks again. You so nice.

We're here to help you.
But rooting is very easy on .42 firmware with DooMLoRD's exploit and rooting tool.

Nice! Top notch is what I want! I really wanted the glossy black. It does look classy and sharp. Thank you! I love the design of the Arc. That's why I kept going back to it. I've always been a SE fan, especially back in the k790a and
w810i days. And my beloved P910a.

I recieved my glossy black Arc S this week. Loving it so far. I am pleasantly surprised that the Arc S is just as fast as the Samsung GSII. I still have the S2 for testing so this is how I've come to determine that the Arc S is a fierce competitor to the S2. I can tell you playing videos on the Ars S blows the S2 out of the water! Not to mention the Arc S looks a lot better than the S2. I'm not trashing the S2 at all. The screen on the S2 is amazing. I expected better from an Exynos device that a lot of people were bragging about.
I had the orginal Arc twice and that device lagged a lot. I haven't noticed any lag on the Arc S.
I have a question though. I notice when I hit the return key, sometimes it doesn't register. I decided to hit it harder and it's responsive now. Is this normal? The return key feels softer than the home and menu key. Should I be concerned about this?

thats the problem with arc s,even sony, the button, while other devices use softbutton(like s2 back and menu button),s.e still using physical button, its sometimes unresponsive, dont do it hard or may brick the button..

Seriously, 410 bucks? Mine cost only 317€ which makes ~330 dollars I guess. In Switcherland obviously.
Wow, I checked out Canadian prizes online, and the cheapest was over 500$! The hell...?

It's okay.
Just don't press it toooo hard.
Someties my Arc had it to, when it was laggy. I pressed it harder than instead of waiting untill the lag is gone and the key works as on day one
My Arc is almost 8 months old.
Since the latest Arconium ROM I didn't do it.

Thanks for the response. I will remember to not press hard on the back button. Now I'm being too careful because I'm afraid I might break it.

Hello Switzerland! I've been having a hard time finding a Switzerland flag shirt. I'm a huge fan of Roger Federer. Sorry, totally off topic. Couldn't help myself.
Things in Canada are VERY expensive. This has always been the case. Not to mention our 13% tax on top of the $500!

Stil restart problems I give up

As from today I have my arc for sale, its the first time since Ive been around here I only had a phone for less than 3 months...
No matter how many times I flashed my arc it keeps restarting every now and than which means I am not available till I notice it. As I really use my phone for business purposes as well I can't afford missing calls from customers.
I really love the design, brought my phone back twice for repair, and still having this annoying problem.
I want to thank everyone for their help and nice talks and maybe we meet each other in another section once.
For now I don't know which phone to choose, so I will go shopping this weekend.
Cheers for now,
Arnold

To bad the Arc didn't work out for you, i can imagine your frustration.
We have 2 arc's around the house, and indeed, sometimes both rebooted for no reason at all (like just lying on my desk), but since i put the new firmware on them it realy doesn't happen anymore.
The only (rarely) reboots that stay are the ones when stressing the CPU.
Both devices are on firmware 3.0.1.A.0.145, rooted but bootloader still locked.
Hope you find a device that suits your needs better, but i beg to differ you'll find one with a more sexier design

It's very sad but I can understand you very well. I have an original sealed SGSII here and complaining with myself if I shall open and use it or if i send it back.
My Arc is annoying my quite a lot in the last time because it reality permanently loses the WLAN connection. The connection is totally lost or the Arc shows a connection but giving the "... no network... " error
I've done all troubleshooting that I could find but nothing helps. May sound stupid but it seems that the connection is lost more often the longer the Arc is running with one FW version.

Have you honestly got nothing better to do with your life than make useless posts like that?
@Pollpixx: have you not considered getting the handset repaired or replaced under warranty?
Yeah I agree with Step666 .. I think instead of repairing see if you get a replacement. Xperia Arc is worth fighting for
Like i said, it was out for repair twice and will not be replaced for free...well I also have my LG optimus 2x which works fine and yesterday I bought an iphone 4 because I have an ipad2 for my birthday and I love the way the graphics and gameplay are on those devices. Real Racing 2 HD on Ipad2 for example is incredible real... but I agree, it is hardly customazible, so i use it for those games and bussiness only...
My Arc is for sale now, just had a bad monday morning item maybe, but I can't afford having my phone turned off daily, that will cost me turnover for my work in the end.
Enjoy your Arc's, I don't have a "burn the device" feeling like some other people, it was just a faulty product I get my hands on and now I don't trust it anymore.
Nevertheless, thanks very much for the advice!
Cheers,
Arnold
That's a pity Pollpixx. I'm sure the other forums would love to have you.
But how about turning it in for repairs and just keep it as a spare phone? I feel it'd be a shame to just sell it.

Why not?
You're in the EU, you must be covered by some sort of consumer protection laws?
My concern if I were in your situation is that I wouldn't feel comfortable selling a faulty item.
Not that I'm suggesting you'll dupe whoever buys it or anything like that, it'd just bother me is all.
As for the iPhone4, can't blame you for getting one - they're nice handsets. Not my cup of tea personally due to how locked-down they are but really nice pieces of kit nonetheless.
The iPad however - boo!

[Q] Should I get this phone? Spec/experience

First off, I am sorry for posting another one of these but I really could use some help in this.
I am/have been eligible for and upgrade for a long time. My carrier is Verizon and my current phone is the droid x. I was one of the first people to post in this form that I was getting my hands on this phone when it was released. Well due to a fluke on my upgrade date I was forced to wait. After time passed it seamed in my eyes that this phone wouldn't be much of an upgrade from my current phone so I halted on getting it. I am now itching at getting a new phone but don't want to blow my life savings. I have been really looking at getting the HTC rezound but with that tremendous price tag you can see why I have hesitated. My biggest concern is like I stated above, if Im getting a phone I want to UPGRADE not swap to a new yet similar phone. Smart phones have become laptops, if you don't buy above the curve your going to end with a sluggish piece of crap in the long run.
The things I really like about the rezound is the 1.5GHz dual core processor and the 4G. But now looking around I realized that even though the xperia play is a 1GHz single core it also has a GPU to boost its spec's. The BIGGEST perk to the xperia play for me is the controller. I love to game when nothings going on. I especially love gaming on emulators so I can play those classics like Pokeymon fire red . I recently have pulled out the old unused PSP Go and started Pokeymoning it up.
The main reason my attention has been brought back to the play is because of the LTE rumor. But Im still just hesitant so I thought some stories or opinions could help me decide. One thing I would like to add is I LOVE to mess with my electronics. Anything I can customize or change I will. Things like rooting and rom swapping I do all the time. So S-off or some kind of work around is a necessity. The rezound doesn't have S-off but it will and I know the r800x can now change roms but not kernels.
So here are my questions.
Is there any kind of group working to get S-off for one the 800x? I wasn't able to find anything when I did my digging around.
Would you consider the Xperia Play to be a good phone to UPGRADE to?
What are your experiences with the phone, like how does the screen look, battery life?
Should I wait to hear more on the Xperia Play LTE, or am I just going to hear nothing but rumors for another year like with the regular Xperia play's release date?
Anything will help good or bad, thanks!
You can unlockck the bootloader via a couple of members on xda. Its not free, I got mine unlocked (bootloader) before the service was a paid fee. I love emulators and have many on my phone. Nes, snes Genesis n64 neogeo cps1 cps2. This phone is awesome for emulators. If you love emus this is the phone. Rooting and unlocking is really easy. Trust me this phone may not boast top of the line specs, but I don't care. I love this phone.

Wow that was fast . Thanks man for the input.
If I did get the phone I would get the bootloader unlocked. I was REALLY angry to see that you had to pay to get the bootloader unlocked for the r800x. I then stopped and thought we have received a crap tone of stuff from the devs for free and some of that stuff took months to make. I don't mind coughing up a bit to get an unlocked bootloader. But I would hope the recipient of my money would release something else for free that would make paying for the unlock that much better. But hay to each there own.
Has anyone here gone through the pay process? It almost looked like the process was on hold when I checked into it.
One other thing, does the Xperia play have some sort of HDMI out? I looked really quick and it doesn't look like it but thought I would triple check.
Edit: One more thing. Has anyone taped into the built in PSX emulator? That was one of the coolest things I loved about all the PSP's, once CFW was installed !

The unlocked R800i models (Sim free) can get their boot loader unlocked from the official Sony ericsson bootloader website, and thats free, but the people who do the paid bootloader unlock either have R800x models or another model locked to a specific carrier, Either way they only make you pay because they need to buy credits or something for the program they use to unlock it... I don't know much about that process because I can unlock mine via the se official method.
I forgot one more thing. A couple weeks ago the sources for the R800x were released. This will definately give the devs a lot more to work with and make mods for this phone a lot easier as the information is out. Also don't quote me I think the bootloader unlock price is 25 dollars. Also for me the best emulator is the Tiger Arcade. Its not on the android market but it plays all the neogeo cps1 cps2 games flawlessly. And it even has network play so if you have a friend and they have the same apparently and game then you can play together. Had a friend over and we played Dungeons & Dragons Towers of Doom as a team. Man it was fun.

The biggest reason I believe there is a bit of truth to this is because when the phone was getting approved by the fda or what ever its called. There was xperia play with 4g lte that was submitted for review. Otherwise im with Sniper in that all we have to go off is a crappy picture of a training form.

I thought it was some sort of Paintballing Company or something, sorry im a 90s kid
Common haha! S3 is awesome. I sent my S3 to repair some stuff (read this: ClickMe LOL)
Then i bought a HOX, i really enjoyed the phone but htc made some limitations, that's why I preffer S3. Its a plastic made phone but its very resistent, I love to flash roms but unfortunatly I got a S-ON device.
This year I bought 5 phones: iPhone 4S, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note 1rst gen, Galaxy S3 and now HOX.
About iPhone 4S:
It's a very nice phone but I have always had apple devices, all iphones and i wanted to try something new.
About Galaxy Nexus:
I don't know if it's only in Brazil, but i got an international one, and there was no Gorila Glass o.0. Camera is really bad. At least nexus is on top to receive new updates.
About Galaxy Note:
It's a HUGE phone lol. Now I started to think i'm unlucky lol. Most of G.Note came with a Bug that you can't do a full wipe coz it erases the efs partition and you turn your device into a brick.
About Galaxy S3:
One world? GOD.
It's the best phone I've ever had. It's fast, beautiful, awesome camera quality. It's "wow". You can be sure it will receive many updates since the "S" line is very famous. You can say it's "cheap plastic" but why do u want more? Are you going to play tennis with your phone?? LOL
About HOX:
Loved HTC sense. Too bad i got a S-ON device and _044 cid. I'm a "rom-flashing" fanatic. I love to try as many roms as i can in a day lol, with this limitation by htc forces me to use S3 as main. Battery also SUCKS BY ALOT.But i'm gettin HOX+ as soon as its avaliable.Too bad I live in brazil and need to buy this phone in Paraguai lol its gonna take 10000000 years.
Sorry for my english typos lol
Hope this help you

[Q] XPLAY Broke Should I get a New One?

So My XPlay Just Broke and I liked it quite a bit But HATED ITS Crap Specs (which were tolerable due to custom kernels and whatnot)... Now i can get a new phone my budget for a new phone is around £180 and a new play is £149.99 sim unlocked and i am considering it but should i get it over a faster dual core phone like the htc one x which i can get for £180,what do you guys recommend?i mostly use my phone for texting, music, internet, some gaming, and a lot of customizing , flashing roms etc.Any suggestions for a different phone? Try and keep it unbiased let me know thanks.
As to whether or not you should buy another xplay, you're really the only one who can answer that question. For me, if I could only have one phone, it certainly wouldn't be the play. It's just too old, and missing way too many features.
There's going to be others posting in this thread that will evangelize the play, and tell you that it's the best phone ever. I would shop around for a modern used phone if I were you. Something that has a dual or quad core cpu, factory jelly bean, 1 or 2 gigabytes of ram, and a hd screen is an awesome thing to behold.
Good luck with you decision dude!
When it comes to Gaming, nothing is better than having what the Xperia Play has in terms of controls. But you are right in saying it is outdated.
As your budget is somewhat low, I would buy a new Play. Simply because the performance increase wouldn't be worth the lack of the Xperia Play controls.
If however, you can save up an extra £60 - I highly recommend you getting the Nexus 4 from google. https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_4_8gb&feature=microsite&hl=en
Its specification is out of this world for its price. And with modding custom ROMs/Kernels it is easily the best performer out there to date. I had the luxury of using one for about a month and got it to score an amazing 23500 on Antutu. Unfortunately it wasn't mine though and I was only rooting it/unlocking it for someone.
Thanks for the replies. Well I've made my mind up to get a HTC one x which I can get for £180 but ill keep my play around as only its screen is broken and I could repair it myself.Plays a good device and has a great development community and all but it just isn't my type of Phone.
I'm Going to keep watching this thread for more opinions and also like "Visa Declined" said there's going to be a lot of fan boys defending the play like crazy which I find kind of funny

I have a xplay and the only reason I can tolerate it is because of all the great devs. But I would replace it with a newer phone if I could. I do like the game pads but I don't game enough for them to really matter. I would go with the HTC one x or nexus 4 like someone else recommended.

im getting it from a friend not to sure about the official price though
for gaming is important to me. as long i have 4g, a fairly quick phone, and tethering option for my laptop and i my phone can still do most of the apps that i want avail, i'm good with my play.
a new play would be cool. my wife has a samsung s3 and while it looks great and all, having no playstation controls sucks. get a new play if gaming is your thing.

I thought that must be the case, it is a good price for that phone!
buy a phone with better specs and then buy one of those attachable gamepads.
Are you willing to take a Second-Hand-Phone? Cause an Xperia T is usually only around the £150 mark or £180 if you get a Grade A

Yea I suggest you upgrade and keep the play for moding. Who knows you might become a awesome dev with the spare play

I wouldn't get another xplay.
The one x is a good phone, I would suggest that or a galaxy s3.

I partially agree with you, but just partially. That's correct that only he can answer himself. You are in xperia play board in which 90% people bought this phone for gaming. There's no other phone in which gaming is so nice in terms of controls and that's why our play is evangelised (controls). There is no game which our play can't run, so people (like me) don't want another phone.
Although the OP should ask himself, am I going to play a lot on my phone or just from time to time?
If you are going to play a lot - get yourself another xperia play.
If you are not going to play this much but only from time to time - get yourself one X, if you are able to get xperia z for this price I'd get xperia z.
Main reason that I haven't abandoned my phone is XDA. I'd get angry of how slow it is our that I can't get JB. But I'm not since this is not happening
Choice is yours, just ask yourself these two questions above, and you have made your decision.

It was been already discussed. There is almost no game which supports it, play - over 300. Try to put one of them in your pocket no-go. Also you'll talk about apps which are making these external gamepads usable, it's as usable as PSP android emulator.

Going to get a Xperia Play - Some questions.

Hey guys, I know I'm jumping on the Xperia Play bandwagon a bit late (2 years late), but my phone just broke down and it looks like I can get a Xperia Play for relatively cheap now for around $100 - 200 unlocked. But I have some questions -
1 - I'm planning on using it with the T-Mobile pay-as-you-go $30 100 min - unlim text - unlim 4g, and will it work? I know that with the r800i the phone and text will work, but 4g will not. I've also heard that you can make 4g work with the r800at, but I'm not sure. This is my main question.
2 - Are there any roms for 4.0 + and how well do they work with the with the controller. One main reason I'm getting this old phone is because of the controller, and if the controller doesn't work I'm fine with settling on gingerbread.
3 - How is the touch screen? I know this might seem like a dumb question but I've used the Motorola Triumph from virgin and OH GOD was it a horrible touch screen. It was just all gritty and weird. So what can I expect?
I am sorry if any of my questions are redundant, I did search the boards first. Thank you for your help.

Welcome to the Xperia Play board first of all, I am re-getting the Xperia Play myself after using a Galaxy S2 International myself for six months but I decided to go back to Xperia Play. I'll answer each question one by one and with great detail as I did research long time ago.
1. I am using T-Mobile's $30 5GB 100 minute Unlimited text plan for web activation or Wal-Mart only. I did mines on the web with ease. The difference from the r800i and the r800at is the color shell, software, OS skin and the available radios. I have never got the r800i myself to try the 4G radio before the 1900MHz band was availible this year, if someone else has a r800i then that would be good to have a choice, I honestly do not know about r800i phones. The r800at and r800a both work for T-Mobile's 4G with the 1900MHz band. The difference from the r800at and the r800a model is the bootloaded lock status, the AT is bootloader locked and the A is bootloader unlocked, either phone you get you still need to have SIM unlocked to use the T-Mobile's SIM card and service.
2. The Xperia Play has ICS and JB roms available for download, however installing ICS/JB you will lose some compatibilties in games and a couple of hardware bugs like touchpad not working and camera in some roms. I never used a 4.0+ rom myself as I stayed in GB for gaming and stability.
3. I personally owned and moved from Virgin Mobile AND the Motorola Triumph, I used to have the phone with a low $25 a month and I used customs roms that addresses the hardware issues. The touchscreen in the Xperia Play is better in response and the resolution of 245 ppi and 480x852 is sharp from the Triumph or my Galaxy S2. The height of the screen is the same size to the Triumph, width is less but moving from the Triumph to the Xperia Play is awesome that you do not mind the tiny reduction in width. I never want to go back to candybar phones until the next Xperia Play device comes and I will be a Xperia Playa, this is what you expect once you hold this device in your hands! :good::laugh:

Thanks a lot for the reply! That was very informative.
Which phone do you have, R800a or at? I know it doesn't matter, but I'd rather have the confidence that someone else has gotten it working on the specific phone.
And alright, that sounds good. I'll use the GB roms then. Hopefully my transition from Jellybean down isn't too much of a problem.
Wow, it looks like there is a ton of people like me. I had the Virgin Mobile 25 dollar plan before switching to T-Mobile too, and I actually have the 5gb plan right now.
Thanks a lot for your help again! Hopefully I'll turn into a Xperia playa too.

I had the r800a the first time, that got stolen, then the r8000at the second time which broken. The next Xperia Play phone is going to be a r800at because to me has a better OEM feel and it was made for the US market and if you get the AT&T box in either new or like new condition, you get extra accessories like the dock (if sealed). JellyBean is a cool feel on my Galalxy S2 but I will not miss it as much as I plan to flash Gin2JB v2.3+ rom in the future, my Xperia phone is coming later this month as I still am in the game, lol.
T-Mobile's 5GB 4G is better than Virgin Mobile's 2.5GB 3G data, especially here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Your location varies in signal strength. I promise you, if you like retro games and like to play games on a gamepad, you will never come back to candybar phones. Here is one more important thing you must know, be gentle when you slide the screen up and down, the flex cable is the weakest link and can kill the phone from screen and device and never place paper or fragments in between (that is how my second phone failed.)
You are welcome fishvtt, I am more confident on a r800at like I said because of the parts but also for the fluidity of the feel and performance of the networks and functions, might be placebo but I honesty like the r800at more, either one is fine, each one is the same to support anything from roms, kernels and firmware, it is all GSM compatible and universal when used with custom recovery.

Thanks a lot for the help. And I'll keep that tip in mind. (To take care of the flex cables).
I'm probably gonna be scourging around ebay for the next couple of days and I'll keep it in mind to look for the AT version.
Already getting hyped up, can't wait to relive the nostalgia of having a gameboy

Awesome, well I have a merchant on Amazon who will send me a like-new Xperia Play, in the description it it said it was unlocked and tested with a 30 day money back warranty. I will let you know once it arrives on Monday or Saturday if I am lucky. I got it at 119.95 with FREE shipping: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=me%3DA1KSB2QN4L6U9U&field-keywords=xperia+play. Best to wait and give you the green light when I receive it from said merchant.
Wow that price is amazing.
Well sounds good!
Be sure to keep me updated!

Will do, I am also waiting on some accessories which I will review in the future as I do not see them on YouTube or other sites. Which ever comes I will post it in their respective places/topics.
Just an update. I got the Like New Xperia Play r800at in the mail today. The phone is a r800at with the phone, battery, and standard charger (AC to micro USB). When I inserted the T-Mobile SIM card it is unlocked, however I cannot enter fastboot mode and I have to pay alejandrissimo to get my phone fully unlocked. 360 Mobile Solutions, the seller who sold me the phone for $119.95, sold me a great looking phone, no damage at a quick other than the area around the USB port, it's okay with me; also the screen still has the factory sticker "TXTING & DRIVNG ... IT CAN WAIT" on the phone, which is excellent. I say buy from them, save yourself some money for a nice case and other goodies. :good:
