[Q] No menus since SD format - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there.
Today I needed to use an SD card temporarily, so I grabbed the one out of my phone, and not thinking, formatted it. I had previously installed a custom ROM maybe 9 months ago. When I put the SD card back in and turned the phone back on, there were no menus or lock screen. Just the bar along the top (which I couldn't drag down), with the time/battery etc. It did say I was connected to my 3g network. I panicked and tried to fix it myself by resetting the cache and eventually installing another ROM (MIUI_AU). I believe I was originally running LeeDrOiD 2.5. That didn't work, and my phone would sit on the HTC loading screen indefinitely. I tried to factory reset it in the recovery menu but it still doesn't display anything other than the top bar. How exactly should I go about fixing it? (I have since corrected the SD card in gparted).
I can't attach a screenshot of what it looks like, but yeah basically I can only lock the screen with the power button, nothing else does anything. Only thing on the display is the top bar and wallpaper.

Any backup via recovery to restore? If not you need to start from the scratch

The 4th different rom I tried worked. Must have just been an incompatibility with my old radio/hboot.

[Q] Unable to restore Incredible to stock 2.2

After messing with a custom ROM downloaded from ROM Manager, I wanted to go back to my original stock 2.2. However, when I went to do the restore of my most recent backup (done before I flashed this most recent ROM) it tells me that the MD5 sum has a mismatch and won't do the restore.
So after doing some research, I try and do a clean restore of the stock 2.2 RUU .zip, but HBOOT tells me that the PB31IMG.zip is out of date and won't do the update.
I have no other backups on my SD card or anywhere else, and I've flashed the phone to a different ROM that was downloaded to my SD card so I at least have a functioning phone. However I want to bring it back to stock in case I have to send the phone to Verizon at some point.
Security is set to S-ON for those who need to know.
Any assistance on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That worked! Restoring my backup now! Thank you!
Ok, after fixing the MD5 error and restoring my backup (and clearing the cache/data/etc) It shows the "HTC Incredible" screen, but then goes black and shows nothing at all. All buttons are unresponsive and a battery pull is necessary to get back into recovery.
What might be happening here?
I've been having the same exact problem. My phone is almost unusable right now after loading a 2.3 ROM onto to it just to see how it worked. I backupped my files and clear my cache before hand, but when I load into HB Boot and click recovery, the phone vibrates, displays the HTC logo, then goes to a black screen with two white bars on the sides. It is unresponsive and requires a battery pull.
I can reboot the phone and get into the 2.3 ROM, but it is slow and buggy. No android market, lots of force closes, and won't load my google account.
I assume the problem has something to do with Clockwork MOD recovery. Any ideas out there?

Actually it does sound like CMR, check the lastest unrevoked rooting thread to get the image and how to install it. This usuallly occurs with the slcd screens. If i'm wrong someone else let me know.
You can go here to get the SLCD recovery: http://www.incredibleforum.com/foru...nly-see-black-screen-white-bars-recovery.html
worked liked a charm. Thanks.

My SD Card causes the phone to freeze

Hey people
Using Oxygen 2.0 RC7
Recovery Amon Ra
Phone HTC Desire PVT4 S-ON
I've had some trouble with my SD card I think.
I always sync my songs from spotify for the offline mode. And after a couple of hours i try to enter gallery but my phone freezes, when I press the ON button I see my buttons interact, but the screen is black? It's laggy as hell, ive tried everything. I wiped everything, reflashed and then it worked. But after 2 hours of using the phone it started to hang again..
Sooo i downloaded Rom manager and tried the filepermission thing, that runs a test. And now I'm running the phone without any problems. But I think that I will have a problem by tonight..
Do you guys know the problem?
Unrooted the phone... everything was normal, but when I started using things that are on the SD card it goes black. And I have to pull the battery... this never happened before rooting...
Tried another sd card now, hope it doesnt happen. The other I used maybe was broken or something? Only had it for 2-3 months.. my phone

htc inspire hd hboot issue

my htc inspire hd is stuck on hboot screen.. everytime i boot it up the screen is frozen and it says it cant find the pd98 file. so i looked through this thread to find some answers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386387
i did everything i could and put the pd98 in the root of the sd card and then it got to the point where it still cant find the pd98diag.zip and .nbh file but it finds the pd98img and starts to load. then its just gets stuck on the parsing screen.. i rooted my phone a while back using ace hack kit so i could unlock the phone. this issue came out of no where, i was just using my phone and looking at nba scores and it just freezes so i pull out the battery and now this happens...

can you access the recovery by going into the hboot, if so, all you need to do is flash a ROM from scratch, or restore a back up
no i cannot click on hboot, it just automatically reads the sd card and then loads the p98 file and gets stuck on parsing.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396253&highlight=hboot
ive been trying to follow this guide but i put the pd98 file from the first link on the sd card then boot up my phone and the phone is still stuck but reads the pd98 file and gets stuck on the parsing screen again and all it says is [1] recovery.
also i dont know if it helps everytime i power on my phone it automatically goes to hboot screen, i dont have to hold the volume down button.
Have you tried removing the p98 zip from the sdcard and then booting into recovery from the bootloader? or removing the sd card completely, and then powering on the phone?
yeah without the sd card when i try to turn it on it goes to the hboot screen and just stays there, i cant move up or down and with the sd card without the pd98 file, the phone looks for pd98img twice and doesnt find it and then looks for pd98 file and doesnt find it and then goes back to hboot screen
and thanks for getting back to me man and trying to help out!
I came across someone else with this issue not that long ago. Unfortunately your ribbons running to your volume keys, or other related hardware, have become damaged or failed prematurely and your volume key is indefinitely stuck down. The only way to fix this would be to replace the failed part yourself. The inspire is difficult to take apart and requires a special tool to remove the camera so warranty may be your best bet.
do you know how much repairs like that usually cost professionally?
If you have at&t, its free for your first one to braeak, it has to be software, so they won't know that its the volume rocker is broken. Because what it mostly looks like is software.

well i cant send it to att bc i didnt buy it from them, bought from a third party. is there a place i can order the parts and do it myself?
also maybe its a volume rocker problem bc if i hold the volume up button with the powerbutton it vibrates a couple of time and the led stays solid green but the screen remains blank. doesnt that show the rocker still works bc the combination of the volume and power triggered a different response then just pressing the power and the phone going into hboot?
hboot
i have a wierd situation. when i go into hboot, it vibrates like heck and it finally gets on. i can chose recovery and it vibes like crazy but it eventually does load. i get to cwm and i can do all the operations. wipe data, partitions etc etc. i install from zip card and it is successful. i reboot phone and it vibes like crazy and eventually the zip does work and the rom is flashed. i just found it peculiar that my hboot is screwy, but i can still flash roms, wipe data, go to recovery and etc. do i have anyting to worry about, or should i just stick with the screwy hboot? idk how to fix the hboot . any suggestions or insight would be surely appreciated.

You have a froyo hboot. Just flash a gingerbread one and all will be normal again. Best thing to do is just use a PD98IMG.

i tried your gizroot and it worked. but when irebooted the device, i got what ihad before. a crazy long vibrate and back to hboot. i managed to get to recovery and flash the android revolution. im afraid of rebooting device as it will probably get stuck again.
i have run out of patience. lol. how do i flash that image. ?every time i load bootloader it says that it cant load pd98 image. its actually been that way ever since i rooted my phone.
Here is a PD98IMG of the gingerbread hboot. I've tried this one and know it should work. Just give your phone time to recognize it.

[Q] HTC Desire Looping "quietly brilliant" startup screen

My HTC desire with the official ginger bread update on is now looping the "quietly brilliant" startup screen - my battery run out and when I started charging it and switched it on, this happened, completely random
I have tried recovery mode etc, however this doesn't work
Does anyone know if there is anything I can do?
Does it go to
- bootloader mode vol- and power
- fastboot mode back and power
I had the same problem, after doing some research I came to the conclusion that the issue was with the partition type of my memory card.
Try this, remove the memory card insert the battery and then restart [do not insert the memory card]. If it works now then you have the same problem I was facing. If not then this could be something different.
Reply, if the same i will provide the solution.
try deleting (wipe) user data and dalvik cache if you don't have something important.

Key phrase here is "with official gingerbread update".
via xda app
yes it has the official gingerbread update on it from the htc dev site - ie I have never rooted it or put a custom made rom on it
recovery or fast boot, ie switching on with volume buttons doesnt work
I have tried without the memory card and without the sim card still loops
I just cant seem to stop it looping this screen!
*edit*
oh wait, I just tried fast boot, back and power and that worked!
what can I do now? reinstall rom?
The only option you have right now would probably be to run the official gingerbread RUU again. Unless you wanna root it from this point forward.
You'll probably lose all your data which is probably lost at this point anyway.
My concern is that it just went crazy and you are on stock so I feel something else might be broken.
via xda app
Get the 2. 3. 3 RUU from htcdev only and run it from pc.
