My SD Card causes the phone to freeze - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey people
Using Oxygen 2.0 RC7
Recovery Amon Ra
Phone HTC Desire PVT4 S-ON
I've had some trouble with my SD card I think.
I always sync my songs from spotify for the offline mode. And after a couple of hours i try to enter gallery but my phone freezes, when I press the ON button I see my buttons interact, but the screen is black? It's laggy as hell, ive tried everything. I wiped everything, reflashed and then it worked. But after 2 hours of using the phone it started to hang again..
Sooo i downloaded Rom manager and tried the filepermission thing, that runs a test. And now I'm running the phone without any problems. But I think that I will have a problem by tonight..
Do you guys know the problem?

Unrooted the phone... everything was normal, but when I started using things that are on the SD card it goes black. And I have to pull the battery... this never happened before rooting...
Tried another sd card now, hope it doesnt happen. The other I used maybe was broken or something? Only had it for 2-3 months.. my phone

[Q] possible brick need help!!

ok here's the deal,
a friend of mine has a htc desire with a weird rom on it, he asked me to change it to something more "normal".
So i flashed Pays-rom v2.2 a2sd+. it all went fine untill i tried to install apps, i always wend back to the splash screen and then back. so i desided to flash a new radio on it. i flashed radion 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 on it and after it went totally fine, rebooted and it was all ok, but when i rebooted it again it refused to start.. i tryed everyting and it simply would not start. i plugged it in the charger and the led didnt turn on.. but after several times of pulling the battery in started anyways, and worked just fine.
I showed it to him, and he wanted to have an overclockable kernel so i downloaded one, through Rom Manager i set it to flash it, and upon reboot it never woke up again.
I tryed to pull the battery several times and still no turning on and still no led on charge . i dont understand, because on my phone (htc hero) i never had sutch problems.
any help would be apreciated.
Do u have access to your recovery menu
If so then load it by
Pulling the battery an putting it again
Thn hold volume down and power
Thn navigate by the arrow keys to recovery and press the power button
Now your in recovery
Mount as usb storage
And put a new rom on the memory card and flash it
That's it
Remember that next time you should do a nandroid backup from the recovery menu everynow and then especially before flashing themes and radios

Nope, could not power up at all. But I figured out that if I pull the battery for 2 hours, I could get it to boot. So I reverted everything back to how it was and as long as it does not power off it work thanks anyway

CM7 crash then boot loop 16gb SD

I flashed #11 and I'm getting random shut downs and a boot loop. I have a 16gb sd, and when I take it out and the battery and boot it, it boots up. I put the sd back in after it boots up and it does the random shut down again and back into loop.
Is anyone else having this issue.
Might Wanna Try A New Rom, I'm Not Having Any Problems
(Yes I Have A 16GB SD Card)
I got 12 and I'll try that in the morning.

Then it sounds like it is a problem with the card? You should format the card using SD-association's tool.

try reformatting your sd card to fat32.......wipe data/cache/dalvik......then reinstall.
My card is fat32 and I did a fresh reformat before installing cm7 a few days ago

**UPDATE**
I have since tried reformatting again and installing CM7 #12 and my phone no longer loops upon bootup, however I still get random reboots. Sometimes the frequency of said reboots are within 10-15 minutes of each other, sometimes it takes a few hours, no rhyme or reason that I can tell.
I do remember when I first got my INC that where I was at the time, in cincinnati, my signal was poor and my phone would reboot from time to time and I assumed it was because of some sort of miscommunication issue. However, where I am now, my signal is fine and I have never had an issue with it no matter where I go.
What could be causing these random reboots and is anyone else suffering the same problem with any of the nightlies that are coming out?
No problems here with my CM7 nightly with a 16gb card. What kernel are you running? Just the default CM7 one?
yes, default kernel. also, no setcpu or anything like it.
One more note. I'm running omgb right now and I don't get any looping or random reboots. It has to be something in cm7 that conflicts with either my SD card or my phone's internal memory or radio. This is the only reason I can muster up.

I was having this problem with a 16GB san disk. I kept having to do a battery pull to stop the loop, and it ended up killing my phone (no power/charging from batteries, cords, anything).
I just got a replacement phone today, permrooted with gfree (SIMLOCK off), flashed CM7, and was having the issue again within 15 minutes. I took out my SD card and put in a freshly formatted 8GB sd. So far so good. I'm going to format the 16 and try it again.
Interestingly, I didn't have this problem until around the time I turned SIMLOCK off. Anyone think this could be a reason for CM to crash and loop?

phone stuck on white HTC screen

i was using the Incredibly Debloated ROM and decided to give CM7 a try. it kept saying that phone, market, etc weren't installed so I then tried to go back to IB and now my phone is just stuck at the HTC screen and doesn't do anything. I can't seem to get into recovery and have already tried a hard reset.
does anyone have an idea of what i should try next?
thanks
[EDIT] i spoke too soon. i tied pulling the battery out and then holding down volume down and power while i put the battery in and it went right in to recovery. apparently i didn't have that debloated rom on my sd card so thought 'oh well i'll just put back CM7 then'.. and oddly now things seem to be working in CM7. hmm

[Q] No menus since SD format

Hey there.
Today I needed to use an SD card temporarily, so I grabbed the one out of my phone, and not thinking, formatted it. I had previously installed a custom ROM maybe 9 months ago. When I put the SD card back in and turned the phone back on, there were no menus or lock screen. Just the bar along the top (which I couldn't drag down), with the time/battery etc. It did say I was connected to my 3g network. I panicked and tried to fix it myself by resetting the cache and eventually installing another ROM (MIUI_AU). I believe I was originally running LeeDrOiD 2.5. That didn't work, and my phone would sit on the HTC loading screen indefinitely. I tried to factory reset it in the recovery menu but it still doesn't display anything other than the top bar. How exactly should I go about fixing it? (I have since corrected the SD card in gparted).
I can't attach a screenshot of what it looks like, but yeah basically I can only lock the screen with the power button, nothing else does anything. Only thing on the display is the top bar and wallpaper.

The 4th different rom I tried worked. Must have just been an incompatibility with my old radio/hboot.

[Q] accidentaly bricked my phone? plz help!

So here's the deal..
So I'm no newb when it comes to flashing roms. my Dinc is my 3rd phone with a custo.m ROM. Well what happened is. I flashed to cm9 kangs from cm7 v13. Well after about a week I was sick of the instability and having to install apps twice just got annoying.. soo... I decided to go back to cm7 but I didn't have it on my sd anymore so I pulled it from my comp and flashed through ROMmanager. Well upon booting it got stuck in a bootloop (which is the first time I've encountered this.) So I took out the battery, and I held down both volume and the power button and the phone vibrated 5 times and the LED went from flashing red to green and the screen stayed black. Now I can't boot into recovery.. nothing. Almost thinking its bricked... is there any way to save this phone?
Thanks for any help u can gived.

If you can access hboot its not bricked. You need to do the five vibes fix herehttp://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=33, if you can get to hboot to use fastboot. If you cant access hboot you are out of luck.
well an update. what i did was pulled the battery and held down the power button for 10 seconds, then put in the battery and plugged the charger in. and it forced it back into the bootloop. i was then able to access hboot and try and reinstall. well both cm7 and cm9 both started the bootloop. so i went through and factory reset the phone and formatted the sd. and also wiped the dalvik and cache. also formatted system/data/cache, and reinstalled cm7 and it started force closing EVERYTHING. so i completely wiped the phone and reinstalled cm9 and everythijg worked fine, so i went back to cm7 and now everything is working as before. didnt have to enter code in the terminal emulator blahblah.. just an easy fix for me dont think itll work for most but did here so its worth a try i guess.
