Hi everyone
Apologies if this is in the wrong place.
I've had my desire for about 4 months, rooted it using unrEVOked sucessfully and have played around with a few different roms.
i had leedroid on it maybe 3 weeks ago and it kept going in reboot cycles, which sucked so i changed Roms. last week it started to freeze occasioanlly with my current rom (i'm using MIUI 11.26). now it is just frozen solid basically.
It is stuck on the HTC screen at bootup. If i use the volume down key and power to boot, it will go into bootloader, but when i go and click recovery, it just reboots and does the same thing, freezes at HTC. So i'm unable to get into clockwork.
Any ideas? I've been able to follow instructions and am pretty good with swapping roms around etc, but i'm really stuck with this one
Any help would be appreciated. I'm also wondering if it is not software related.
mine just did that today, i tried to open a Gtalk message but it kept force closing, so i rebooted, now it wont go past the white HTC screen. i also removed the battery, same thing happens...not too sure what to do next
BTW im using the CM6
Is there any solution to this? Mine is stuck at the HTC logo too. Can't get into recovery and clear storage didn't work.
Anybody?
i had something like it i endet up whit download this Ruu update

Hi all,
So the history is I had CyanogenMod6 on my Desire and was using OsmAnd in the car with the car charger plugged in. The phone reset so I started it again, reopened OsmAnd, then it crashed again. It stopped on the HTC white logo so I removed the charger and weirdly it then booted. When it crashed a third time then it stopped on the white HTC logo and wouldn't go further, regardless of whether the charger was in or out.
I've tried removing the battery etc, but that made no difference.
I've now flashed back to the 2.29 RUU using PB99IMG.zip on the goldcard. This loads fine and all is well, but then every now and again it resets and sticks on the HTC screen again. Also I turned it off once to put my normal SD card back in, and restarting it gave me the white HTC screen. Huh??
Can anyone help please? I need this phone for work and having it die on me and needing an RUU reset (so ALL my data is wiped) is a proper pita.
Thanks.
If its only doing it using osmand then don't use it. Use something else. If its doing it without using it do a full factory wipe, then format the system and boot mounts then reflash. You should be alright. If your still having issues, you might need to use an ruu but you would need to root again.

It first reset using OsmAnd and Google Navigator but now I have reflashed back to the stock HTC 2.29.405 RUU using PB99IMG.zip and it's still doing it during normal use.
I'm also getting the HTC white screen when I just turn off and back on.
When I flash the stock RUU, does that reformat the system and boot mounts? I know the phone feels like everything is gone since I have to reenter my google acc details.
Yeh, an RUU will completely wipe the whole phone, the boot, system, data, recovery, hboot, cache and what ever else there is, all gets replaced. Yes it is a pain but it will return your phone back to stock and if your still getting errors, then most likely it will be a hardware issue, specifically, the motherboard. Tbh, it's a small price to pay instead of having to send it off.
i am new to the forum and i am looking for some help i have a htc desire unbranded and it is stuck on the htc splash screen it is on hboot 0.93 and i have tried downgrading but it keeps coming up main version is older i can get into fast boot but not recovery i have been reading a lot of threads but cannot figure it all out as there is so much information i'm chasing my tail tail lol if anybody can help me i will be very grateful.
Why are you trying to downgrade? You could use an RUU as a quick fix but it will wipe everything. You haven't given any details of what you tried to do or are wanting to do.
i believe i have to downgrade to hboot 0.83 to get the phone to work but im not sure i have tried a lot of ruu's but cant seem to find the right one i'm very confused by it all to be honest i'm stuck as to what to do
It would also be helpful, if you used a little bit more correct grammer (putting punctuation between each sentence) as much as possible. Some of us, can't understand what you're talking about. This isn't FB or an sms
Also, it would help. if you said exactly what you did, and how you got into this situation. Ie; flashes, etc.
For example, are you rooted? Were you trying to flash a custom ROM?
htc stuck on boot up
Sorry i am not the greatest writer. I was on 2.1 and upgraded ota to 2.2.then the phone started resetting itself. before not booting altogether.i am currently on rom image 2.29.405 hboot 0.93 .and thats as far as i know.
htc stuck on boot up
The phone just hangs on the white htc screen.and wont go into recovery.
First of all, you have a desire. Before running any update, you need to create a Gold Card. It's not specific to "all" desires. But, better safe than sorry.
http://www.droid-den.com/android-guides/android-guide-how-to-create-a-gold-card
To boot into recovery the manual way, turn phone off.
Hold volume down, and press the power button.
This should boot to recovery.
If you get the Triangle, with exclamation mark,
press Vol Up + Power
This will bring you to another recovery menu where you can : Reboot , Flash from sd , Wipe Data/factory ,Wipe Cache
If you can recover the system, I highly suggest creating the Gold Card.
And one more note, if you decide to flash to a stock RUU, I highly recommend wiping all cache memories before flashing. Yeah, I know they will tell you that it's not necessary, but hey, I believe in overkill.
htc stuck on boot up
That's the thing it wont go into recovery, I can go into boot loader and fast boot but when i press up and power it goes back to the htc screen and hangs there again, i have tried a ruu which seemed to be successfull but it still hangs on the htc screen and will go no further.
If you can't get into any type of recovery, just how are you able to flash?
Bear with my stupidity here.
Without a menu system in any type of recovery, I am at a loss.
However, I have heard, that, some people put their phones in the freezer for several minutes. And that the phone would boot. Enogh where they col=uld goto recovery, and fix what they messed up.
Now, I would suspect it;s because the processor was overheating during boot. Probably because cache memories weren't wiped before flashing, and crap got all messed up.
Normally, I would never suggest this. And you do this at your own risk. So if it's messed up beyond repair, please, do not blame me,
htc stuck on boot up
I went into fastboot usb then ran the 2.29.405 ruu which completed successfully,i even extracted the pb99img.zip file and updated that way but still no luck, ill throw it in the freezer for 5 and give it a whirl, who knows might work. and thank you
The freezer thing, is a last ditch effort. And it is only a temporary thing. 15 minutes max. Maybe enough to allow you to clear caches and flash.
I have run out of expertise. So, I have nothing more to offer...
my htc inspire hd is stuck on hboot screen.. everytime i boot it up the screen is frozen and it says it cant find the pd98 file. so i looked through this thread to find some answers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386387
i did everything i could and put the pd98 in the root of the sd card and then it got to the point where it still cant find the pd98diag.zip and .nbh file but it finds the pd98img and starts to load. then its just gets stuck on the parsing screen.. i rooted my phone a while back using ace hack kit so i could unlock the phone. this issue came out of no where, i was just using my phone and looking at nba scores and it just freezes so i pull out the battery and now this happens...

can you access the recovery by going into the hboot, if so, all you need to do is flash a ROM from scratch, or restore a back up
no i cannot click on hboot, it just automatically reads the sd card and then loads the p98 file and gets stuck on parsing.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396253&highlight=hboot
ive been trying to follow this guide but i put the pd98 file from the first link on the sd card then boot up my phone and the phone is still stuck but reads the pd98 file and gets stuck on the parsing screen again and all it says is [1] recovery.
also i dont know if it helps everytime i power on my phone it automatically goes to hboot screen, i dont have to hold the volume down button.
Have you tried removing the p98 zip from the sdcard and then booting into recovery from the bootloader? or removing the sd card completely, and then powering on the phone?
yeah without the sd card when i try to turn it on it goes to the hboot screen and just stays there, i cant move up or down and with the sd card without the pd98 file, the phone looks for pd98img twice and doesnt find it and then looks for pd98 file and doesnt find it and then goes back to hboot screen
and thanks for getting back to me man and trying to help out!
I came across someone else with this issue not that long ago. Unfortunately your ribbons running to your volume keys, or other related hardware, have become damaged or failed prematurely and your volume key is indefinitely stuck down. The only way to fix this would be to replace the failed part yourself. The inspire is difficult to take apart and requires a special tool to remove the camera so warranty may be your best bet.
do you know how much repairs like that usually cost professionally?
If you have at&t, its free for your first one to braeak, it has to be software, so they won't know that its the volume rocker is broken. Because what it mostly looks like is software.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
well i cant send it to att bc i didnt buy it from them, bought from a third party. is there a place i can order the parts and do it myself?
also maybe its a volume rocker problem bc if i hold the volume up button with the powerbutton it vibrates a couple of time and the led stays solid green but the screen remains blank. doesnt that show the rocker still works bc the combination of the volume and power triggered a different response then just pressing the power and the phone going into hboot?
hboot
i have a wierd situation. when i go into hboot, it vibrates like heck and it finally gets on. i can chose recovery and it vibes like crazy but it eventually does load. i get to cwm and i can do all the operations. wipe data, partitions etc etc. i install from zip card and it is successful. i reboot phone and it vibes like crazy and eventually the zip does work and the rom is flashed. i just found it peculiar that my hboot is screwy, but i can still flash roms, wipe data, go to recovery and etc. do i have anyting to worry about, or should i just stick with the screwy hboot? idk how to fix the hboot . any suggestions or insight would be surely appreciated.

You have a froyo hboot. Just flash a gingerbread one and all will be normal again. Best thing to do is just use a PD98IMG.

i tried your gizroot and it worked. but when irebooted the device, i got what ihad before. a crazy long vibrate and back to hboot. i managed to get to recovery and flash the android revolution. im afraid of rebooting device as it will probably get stuck again.
i have run out of patience. lol. how do i flash that image. ?every time i load bootloader it says that it cant load pd98 image. its actually been that way ever since i rooted my phone.
Here is a PD98IMG of the gingerbread hboot. I've tried this one and know it should work. Just give your phone time to recognize it.

Hi Folks,
I was setting up my "old", rooted and S-Off Incredible for our son to play games when travelling, etc. - it's no longer registered on Verizon's network, but is fine for wireless and downloaded apps.
After charging the battery and installing about 47 app updates today (i.e., it hasn't been booted in awhile), I was tinkering around with adding some apps from Play and it suddenly rebooted. Then, it kept booting at the white HTC logo screen.
So, I pulled the battery and decided to go back to Verizon stock, using the image from here:
http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.08.605.15/
Essentially, I booted into HBOOT, went into CWM Recovery, wiped appropriate storage, then rebooted back into HBOOT after putting the above image onto the root of my SD card. Maybe I don't need to wipe storage for a RUU, but it's habit by now.
HBOOT installed the RUU image after it prompted for a Yes/No and the Incredible booted with that old, "DROID!!" startup (gosh, didn't miss that) and showed the initial lock screen.
I pulled down the lock and started only a few seconds into phone initialization when it rebooted.
Now, it reboots as early as the HTC logo screen or gets to the lockscreen and reboots on its own after a second or two.
Seems like a boot loop, but I just installed a new RUU - so . . . I'm wondering if this is a deeper issue.
Ideas on how to go about fixing this rebooting problem are welcome, please. Is it possible that my half-completed Play install - i.e., just before it began this symptom - crunched a file system that needs to be fixed up?
Thanks,
- ooofest
Do you get any kind of errors wiping data or cache from recovery? The play install wouldn't have botched up the filesystem but the reboot could have led to corruption in /data. The cause of reboot I wouldn't know without logs. Try pulling the logcat during the boot loop which may or may not work on stock. I seem to doubt it as stock doesn't have USB debugging on by default.

Hi tiny4579, I had no errors wiping data or cache within CWM that were visible to me. I agree that USB debugging is not likely enabled by default.
If we assume there's a /data corruption as one angle to go with, should I try wiping and reinstalling the RUU again? I could attempt to put on a custom ROM instead, particularly one with USB debugging enabled (if that exists). HBOOT currently shows Locked and S-Off.
Thanks,

If data wipe was fine I'm not sure. To test USB debugging flash something like cm7. I think it uses an insecure boot.img meaning USB debugging aka adb should be on by default.

Using HBOOT 0.92
Installed CWM 5.0.2 via PB31IMG.zip route
Wiped all available storage areas/paths - no errors shown
Installed cyanogenmod 7.2 from the SD card
On bootup, I saw the CM 7.2 boot screen (i.e., a circling arrow) for about one minute, then it rebooted. And rebooted. And rebooted. So, I'm back to rebooting at the HTC logo screen.
Consider me baffled - this phone was working great yesterday until after updating 47 apps (got a "low space" message at one point, started deleting apps while others were still installing) trying to install another app from Play store. Ideas, perhaps?

Yeah, it tends to get beyond the HTC logo screen after a new ROM install, but usually reboots as soon as I see the notification for "preparing internal storage".
Afterwards, it tends to reboot at varying times - sometimes at the HTC logo, other times it gets past OS startup and reboots after a few seconds.
. . .
EDIT: I just rebooted and . . . now it suddenly booted into CM and is working normally. What the heck?!
I'm not a CM person and would like to install another ROM to see what happens after that - do you think the phone EMMC is starting to go, perhaps?

You might want to format the internal emmc and sdcard as the reboots could be related to filesystem. Grab /proc/last_kmsg if you want me to check.

Thanks, I couldn't find a last_kmsg to pull, but I wiped all storage available (including emmc and sdcard), then reinstalled the latest RUU for a test.
Bootup went OK until it rebooted again soon after getting to the Gingerbread lockscreen. Oh well.
I decided to try going back to CM7 since it actually booted after a time, so reapplied CWM 5.0.2 and then started to format storage again. When trying to format /system I got a 5 vibrate error.
I've gone through various combinations of reapplying the RUU, adding CWM, trying to wipe storage, etc. and I keep hitting the 5 vibrate shutdown at various points. I couldn't wipe /system without getting the 5 vibrate issue twice, then it worked the third time, etc.
Just now, I was in CWM and merely navigating the menu to go into "mounts . . ." and it 5 vibrated again. Ow.
My suspicion above keeps coming back to me: is my hardware potentially going?

Yeah, I started charging again to see if that might help, and I've been booting up with it plugged in, too.
Could a battery still be the problem, even plugged in? That is, would a short of some kind be limiting how much could be drawn from the plug?
Wish I did, but don't have another battery on hand.

Even when plugged in the power is going thru the battery, so it could still be the problem. Just a sugestion, may have nothing to do with it at all.

Interestingly, I let it "cool down" for a bit and charge from the wall instead of USB, then was able to wipe all storage, install CM7 and it booted up fine.
So, I let it sit for a bit longer, wiped again and installed the latest stock RUU. This time, it took longer to boot and came up fine - I now have a relatively stock (except for S-Off) Incredible, again.
From your suggestion, I'll shop for another battery and see if a new one helps to keep the sudden reboots at bay.
Thanks.

Hi Folks,
After working this for some days, my Droid Incredible with AMOLED display still gets into a reboot or boot-loop condition after a random amount of time of continuous use. Almost as if it heats up or something in its memory mgmt is flaky.
It can take new ROMs, recoveries, HBOOTs, radios, etc. - but, regular use just brings up the boot condition too easily, so I can't give it to my kid as a simple gaming device. I tried a new battery in case that might be the issue, but the condition still persists. Pulling the battery and waiting 10+ minutes usually allows it to work again, until the next reboot cycle starts up.
This phone is running the latest RUU and is also S-Off.
So, I'd like to give it away to the first person who requests it.
I'm not offering a trade or purchase, but if someone wants this phone to use/test/etc. with, just PM me and we can plan on a quick dropoff in NY/NJ/CT area or I'll send it to your continental USA address with both batteries and no explicit or implied warranties, guaranties, liabilities or claims of operating performance, etc.
