I recently bought this phone from a friend, when i realized that i only have 25 mb of internal storage for use, with all apps installed on my SD card. I've read many threads but i didn't find any solution yet. I'm currently running the cyanogenmod 7.1.0.Desire with android version 2.3.7. I just wanted to ask if there is any way to increase the memory i can use. Thank you for your replies

I didnkt know Cyanogenmod, but here are some functions named like ap2sd, ap2sd+, datasd+ ...
If you Read Installing Howto i think there are some Informations about to add apps onto sd-card.
Maybe a little help to you, get in Settings -> Apps and click on the downloaded Applist on every App and show there if you can phus the app on the sd-card.
Search in Cyanogen Forum, there is for sure a way !
If you s-off you can change Hboot partition to increase data... or use a2sd or data2sd scripts...
What Hboot you using?
First, make second partition on sd card (ext2/3/4 as primary, size: 200-700MB) then go to market and search for s2e app, install it start s2e, move /data/app and if your card is 4+class move dalvik-cache too. Reboot.
That will free your internal memory. Next time when you install new app, internal memory will be minimum used.
Thank you for your quick response. Tomorrow when i'm on a PC again i will do as Qizami told me. I will reply if I achieve success or if I'll get stucked at something. I will check my hboot now and add it to this post, just in case you still want to know.

S2E script works only on CM ROMs, for more info you can check http://s2e.krikun.ru/ site.
My bootloader says:
-revolution-
Bravo pvt4 ship s-off
Hboot 6.93.1002
Microp-051d
Touch panel-synt0101
As i've mentioned before, tomorrow i will try your solutions. Thank you all

I think that this is also ROM related. With cyanogen i had something like 20mb maximum of free space. Now, with Oxygen, i have around 60.
Related
so i post about a week and a half ago a thread about the fact that almost every app that i install is being installed to my internal memory instead the external memory.
so someone suggested me the app move2sd which allows you to choose where all the apps you download will be installed(whether its external or internal)
so i used it and works great all the app are installed at the external memory
but
most of the apps data and other stuff still being stored at the internal memory which i need free for the operator it self to work(the android and everything that connects to it)
so for that i did a partition when i reinstalled my rom
i did a partition of app2sd that it has like 500 mb for all the data of the apps and games but
for some reason it all goes to the internal memory that only have 140 mb and so i cant get any sms and i cant download anything.
btw i have miui rom if matters some how
plz help me its important
thx
Sounds like A2SD isn't working properly - if you go to Settings>System>SD card what does it say in there?
if u mean the space its saying then:
SD card :
11.19 GB free out of 14.32 GB
and the partition:
A2SD:
423 mb free out of 457 mb
plz can someone help with that i need help
Oxygen Hboot, Redux gingerbread rom, problem solved.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
can u explain what u wrote didnt understand anything
if you root your phone you can install a custom rom which comes with various advantages:
- no htc apps = more space
- ability to extend the phone's app space onto the sd card = much more space
- other/better ways to do app2sd = more space
I personally use ReDux RC6 and Im very happy with it. The process is not too complicated and well documented...
i already done it when i installed my rom
and i still dont have space on my internal memory
there is no way that i can do that all the data of the apps and games will also go to the sd card???
What you need to do is download the oxygen Hboot and apply it through fastboot, install redux rc6, and you should have about 295mb free for apps, which I find is plenty, look up some guides for S-off and table partitions changes there is plenty out there.

So I rooted my dads CDMA Desire and loaded Cyangomod 7 nightly on it and he loves it. Problem is, after loading all the apps back on it, he is now very low on disk space. I've found a couple of threads with solutions but I figured I would ask to see what most of you are using to address this problem. I have this issue on my Hero as well and have to flash a custom partition after I flash a rom etc.
Thoughts?
Download the s2e app from Android Market, it's written to work specifically with cyanogenmod. I have many apps installed and still have 50mb free space it's also the easiest solution to your problem!
Sent from my CM7.1 Desire using XDA Premium App
you have two ways:
1.the more easy thing that you can do is that you can use Link2SD alongside a ext2 or ext4 partition on your sd card and move all the huge apps to there with the app
2.flash a custom HBoot table (I recommend CM one that will give you 287MB of /data partition) so you can install more apps on internal storage.. instructions at alpharev.nl
Thanks guys... will check it out. I noticed the alpharev site mentions the GSM Desire but does not specify CDMA also... ??
So I s-offed a few days ago, and changed to cyanogen hboot for extra space, issue is I'm low on space again :S got the same apps install as before I changed hboot.
Got at most 25 apps installed.
Have noticed that on a fresh install 40mb is still being used of data anyways.
I am despite for space suggestions?

Have a look at rootsu's new rom, it comes with instructions to use custom mtd that will give you 370mb of data.

Did you try moving apps to SD from Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications? You could also use Install Manager (there is a Lite free version and a payed one in the market) to batch move apps.
Even with Oxygen r2 HBOOT I also ran out of space. I think you are meant to manually move some apps to SD from the Applications screen, primarily the ones you don't use so much or for when loading speed isn't important.
I moved a few games to SD (some games automatically went on SD, probably because they were over 30mb?), as well as Adobe Flash and Google Maps.
Note: I don't have an ext partition anymore, Android is moving those apps to FAT32.
Hey there,
I'm new here and I installed this ROM on my Desire:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315961&page=101
Now my problem is that there are only 14 MB free Space of internal storage.
My EXT partition is 2048 MB and I installed "App2SD Pro"
If I open App2Sp Pro I only see 2 of the preinstalled apps
First is "ADFree" in "Phone only" category (I moved it to the SD card)
Second is "ASTRO" in "On phone" category.
Why it's unpossible for me to move the preinstalled apps (like "My Tracks" "teeter" "Facebook" "Fb Chat" and so on) to the SD card?
Greetings from Germany
Daniel Luib
Try S2E.
It allows to move apps, data and cache to the EXT partition.
You'll find it on the Market
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
Hey,
I've tried it. Without success.
I chose all options to move on SD card. And then I pushed the "menu" button on my Desire and pushed the option "Reboot" in the App because it appeared below each option to move on SD that an reboot is required.
But my Desire didn't reboot.
Then I rebootet it normal. After reboot I opened the App and there still was the message that a reboot is required.
Do you have another suggestion?

i'm afraid this advice is wrong...
quote from S2E market page: "S2E (simple2ext) works only with CyanogenMod7!"
ROM mentioned in OP is runnymede...
i don't use either rom, but i think reading this might help.
it'll help your understanding of A2SD+

You're right. I'm sorry I just didn't realize it
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
Why you use App2SD with this rom? Runnymede has A2SD++ on it (then moves apps to ext partition) and may be that App2SD (wich moves apps to fat32 partition) will conflict with it.
Titanium in the first page tells you the usage of the ext partition.
Is your ext partition an ext4? Is it primary and after the Fat32 partition?
Finally, I don't think that is possible to move preinstalled apps to ext with A2SD++, but only your downloaded apps and only the relevant part of it, a little (very little) part remains on the phone. Anyway may be i'm wrong.
Yes, I have an ext4 partition but I don't know wether it's before or after the fat32 partition.
But if it's impossible to move preinstalled apps to SD the ROM I installed is silly because there are only about 14 MB of internal storage left.
I'll try it once again.
Another question:
The link from my first Post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315961
Do I have to install the "HBOOT CM7r2" version or the "STOCK HBOOT" version?
How can I find out?
I've got the HBOOT 0.93

are you s-off or s-on? it sounds like you are s-on. therefore, after flashing the rom, flash the rom converter that is available as an addon on the first page. you should get more storage.
what means s-on and s-off?
what's the difference?

s-off is basically full root. when you s-off, you can change the system partition of your phone to get more space for data internally. reboot into bootloader to find out, but i'm pretty sure that you are s-on.
It's S-ON.
How can I flash it so S-OFF.
Is this working with "unrevokedĀ³"?
unrevoked is to root. use alpharev. search for it.
I've downloaded it and I'll seach tomorrow for an instruction and then I make my Desire S-OFF =)
See you tomorrow!
where r u from? may i got a nice howto

Hi!
Before i state my question i have to say you guys do an incredible job!!:good:
I havent done any rooting or using custom rom before the past four days. I`ve read lots at this forum but regarding my problem the solutions suggested there concerns older builds.
I just flashed to CM10.1 VJ Jelly Bean 4.2.1 v4.5 and it is smooth.
The only thing i havent been able to do is to extend the internal storage on my HTC Desire.
I have the ext4 partition running and i do see the drive in the app "titanium backup" as "SD card (a2sd)" 1GB(914MB free)
but in "FreeSpace" the Ext partition shows space used 0%. in settings-> storage the internal memory is total 148MB as usual.
I might be wrong in asuming that im supposed to see an enlargement of my internal storage?
I followed the instructions made by vijendrahs, the release notes for CM10.1 VJ Jelly Bean 4.2.1 v4.5.
the execute A2SD script seems to woork fine.
I tried to download the S2E at google play but after flashing from CM10_VJ_4.1.2_v2.2, it wasn`t available for download. might be due to the terminal emulator provided?
Im really trying to boost the memory on my phone but all my effort the recent days i haven`t been able to find a solution. i might be doing something wrong.
Any one got any idea, how to make this work?
help is much appreciated.
im sorry this post isn`t short as it is supposed to be.

You aren't supposed to 'see' the internal memory enlarge. That happens only if you install an int2sd script. What you have there is an A2sd script, that only moves data/app to ext.

thx for reply!
then i have learned something new this day to
i have browsed the int2sd, would be nice to have them both working even if its basically the same thing.
my rom would probably crash if i flash it so ill leave it for a later testing run.
afaik its only a softlink (/data -> /sd-ext/data), so u dont see it directly.
Hello auto82,
I am facing your exactly same problem, plus I tried also s2e app, but still I have few space and once I've installed some apps (e.g. facebook, hotmail, twitter, etc) I am stuck with nospace left for updates.
Did you tried the in2sd ? How is it going ? Do you have more space ? Its fast ?

If you have a fast sd-card, like class 6, it's fast. If you don't, just install m2sd and only move app and dalvik to sd.
