Hey guys, just picked up my Epic 4g yesterday coming from HTC Thunderbolt. This is a sweet phone. I've done some searching but I must be missing a way to root this newest version.
Could someone please provide me some links? I've done some reading and learning about Odin. I've got that downloaded. I know I've got plenty more learning and reading to do and just want to make I've got all my ducks in a row before I start the root process.
Thanks in advance!

Please be patient while root is being worked on by myself.
The mount points need to be adapted from the process I have in mind and it might take a while.
In the mean time, I would encourage everybody to join the freenode irc we have going and join the cause.

As a former Epic 4G user, I hope you are correct. Our dev section was and is a bit of a wasteland. We had very few ROM updates from Sprint and were it not for Samfirmware, we still would not have Gingerbread.

Same here. I can only imagine how much good stuff we will have to flash in a few months. I think this phone will stay relevant for a long time. I mean, what can't we do on this beast?

Do we have any devs working on evo design 4g? My bro just picked one up, and we were wondering if its been rooted, and if not, is the method the same as evo 4g. Sorry for the off topic question

And OP this is how I obtained root for mine its really easy just make sure you get drivers and you'll have to use adb to get cwm installed

Not to nitpick, but to avoid future problems you might want to saunter on over to the Sprint forum if you do indeed have a Sprint device.
I found a way to root using Odin that seems very simple although I am on a road trip and am playing with my new toy! I just bought it Thursday and came over from the OG Evo...R.I.P. So I hope there is a way because I would like to experiment with maybe new kernel as I do really like the stock ROM and I also want to get Titanium Backup running! Please Help if you have heard either way

I've been researching the process for awhile and I'm almost positive that you need a computer.

A great place to start would be this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956180
There is LOTs of information in that thread, read all 16 pages if you can. Srsly. (Or at least the first three posts, and the last three pages. thats a great way to approach any thread here.)
On top of that, well, there a tot of sticky threads, and many helpful users with great information and tips. Be sure to be respectful, give as much technical details with problems you have, and at least Try to search for the answer before asking. (I guarantee there are at least two threads for any question you might have.)
If this is your first root, welcome to your new hobby!
Ok thank you

Most of the roots that worked with 4.1.1 will work with the latest update. I updated and rerooted the same way after. Worked perfectly.
