You didn't look very hard considering the title is "no trip root"

I did look and didn't find anything. That's why I posted the question.
Thanks for the link though.

Not to nitpick, but to avoid future problems you might want to saunter on over to the Sprint forum if you do indeed have a Sprint device.

Got a new S3, whats next?

Hello All,
I just got my new S3 with T-Mobile, but I'm not sure what to do next. Is there any ways to safely root s3 yet? Is there a guide for bloatware removal? Thanks for all the help!

You should root with the "No tripping flash counter option".

Is there any way to root galaxy s 3 for t mobile running 4.1.1 without a computer?

Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
As of right now, the only way to get root is with the use of the computer as of yet.
Being that seems to work pretty well I doubt there will be development to a root method without a computer.
Hmm, thanks for your feedback

I put the developer kit on my phone and then you can do it from someone elses computer...
What about mobile Odin pro? Then use that to flash the recovery of your choice. The reboot to recovery and install the superuser script?

Doubt it. I think you still need pc

Mobile odin requires root. So it can't be used to gain root.
Chainfire release a rooting method. I haven't tried it but have heard it works well. You still need Odin on a pc for any root procedure that I'm aware of.

Rooting is yes, only available via computer.

Nope, it requires root. Unfortunately. Which I think is kind of stupid.

I just think it's inconvenient for people who want to flash tars that are not rooted. I do think the app is absolutely amazing though.
Sent from my SGH-T999
MobileODIN wouldn't work if it wasn't Root. Functional, not stupid.
Back on topic, on other devices that I have had, you can flash a custom recovery via the stock recovery but naming the file 'update.zip' and placing it in the root of the ext_sd. Not sure about the T999 series, I haven't looked into or tried it.
What about cf autoroot by chain fire?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
CF auto root requires Odin on a pc.
I really do not think there.is a way to do this. Sorry man.

Suggestion: Find an internet cafe (if you can find one that allows downloading exes)
Pay for the time you think you might need.
Download Odin
Download the files you need
You know the rest!
Or you must have a friend who would be willing to give you a go.
It takes about 15 mins to do it if you know what you are doing.
I hope that helps, cheers!
Thanks guys. Mods can close this topic now.

Maybe it will be easiest to use someone else's PC first. After that Mobile Odin can allow flashing from on board your phone.

Other than the method posted, no. Did you use the files in the attachments linked to that root thread? As there are no exploits available to make flashable roots it must be done either with a computer or the method posted.

I apologize for sounding rude, but if you can't follow that guide I don't suggest messing around with your phone too much.
It's pretty straight forward, all you're doing is typing commands into terminal emulator once the required files are on your sd....not difficult in the slightest.
Why not just go to a library and use one of their computers? Or a friends? There's no one click root for the GS3 pretty sure.
Thats where I need help at the terminal emulator commands

Well anyway,
I did try the exploit on my computer and discovered that the exploit appears to be patched for AT&T phones on the latest update, which most people have, which makes this thread somewhat pointless.
It did work on the previous 4.1.1, but only with a computer, which still makes this thread pointless, and most people are going to struggle anyway with the way the terminal commands are given.
It's much easier to just use someone else's computer and use one of the easier root methods.

Thanks for answering, didn't use it because read some posts where people said they bricked their device while using it.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Any bricking was the result of people not paying attention. As long as you can read english , you have nothing to worry about

Not so sure about people mistaking it when flashing, the thread is closed right now says that the software cant be distributed in its current form.

I too am leary of rooting due to bricking comments. Have you, or anyone, found a way to get twrp installed on top of "officially updated" 4.2.2 unit?
if so, please post link.
thnx
Just rooted my device with cf's worked great, using 4.1.2 though
