Can I Root My New SIII without using a computer? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I found a way to root using Odin that seems very simple although I am on a road trip and am playing with my new toy! I just bought it Thursday and came over from the OG Evo...R.I.P. So I hope there is a way because I would like to experiment with maybe new kernel as I do really like the stock ROM and I also want to get Titanium Backup running! Please Help if you have heard either way

I've been researching the process for awhile and I'm almost positive that you need a computer.

Thanks for the wallpaper!!!! Lol

Rooting and CWR: New 2.3.6

Can you root the new 2.3.6 radio (<is that the word?) And if you update does it remove CWR

Try it and see. I would say, most likely, just follow the same procedure.
And you don't root a radio
Ok, I will try it when I get home. Luckily for me, I don't really care whether or not I have root

Why are you on a phone modding forum if you don't care about rooting and modding?
I mean, I want/like to change things on my phone. But I won't get upset if I can't.

Oh, ok. Rooting it should work the same as before. It may be the same as ICS and require an updated SU, though.

How to brick my Tmobile S2

Hi everyone
Is there a way to hard brick my S2?
For testing purpose. Would appreciate
Feel free to PM just as well if the topic is not good here
update: forgot to mention, I can't use any USB type of flashing. My USB is not working for some reasons. So anything from recovery or type in shell should do. thanks again
Well, had to do a double take to make sure I was reading this thread correctly :what: Easiest way is to flash a ROM not intended for our phone. If you read all the "Help, I bricked my phone " threads, they usually flashed one for the I9100 or SG3. Now, you don't plan to use this info for malicious reasons, right? :sly:

gottijr, sure hope your "testing" is that you're coming up with some way to help us un-hard-brick a GS2 without a USB port...

Honestly it sounds like something shady to me.
Either flash an att Rom or flash any pit file.

a specific nexus? the google nexus one?
right now it's a little bit messed up
what ever i flash back from S2 tmobile, is not working anymore
But phone still turns on, and boots, and get the top menu and turn off menu and reset
I need to make sure at this point I brick it right, can't end up getting stuck with it, with no USB
What do you mean stuck with it? Tried the international s2 yet?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Flash an .pit file, that will brick it for sure, you can also flash a recovery not intended for the T989, that will not boot up for sure.

Titanium backup noob question

It asked if I wanted to keep my new Android ID or restore the old one, not sure what to choose, so I went with ask me later.
I have rooted and have Jedi rom running on the device.
Thanks

I've seen it plenty of times, always chose to keep the new ID. Never caused me a problem.

I suspect keeping your old ID might help you with some services, like Amazon Kindle, so I always switch back to the original. No problems either way.
Appreciated guys, looks like I can't go wrong either way.

Att rom

Hey guys, while I'm having a great time flashing ROMs and trying to become a fast expert I wanted to ask a question. I want to keep the stock Att ROM on my device just if I need it reasons. Not sure where I can get it and I don't think I've seen it yet. Let me know if I need to be more clear on what I'm trying to do.

What do you mean? Yes its AT&T and yes its usa thats the only place AT&T is
But here is a ODIN file to go back to 100% complete stock AT&T rom

You know how to use Odin right?
OK and yes I do know odin but wouldn't using that unroot me?

You didn't maybe a back up of the original before you started flashing ROMs?

Hang in there, you'll figure it out...I had to go thru the same thing a while back, but sometimes the best way to learn is to just play around a bit.
Good Luck!

I have a bunch of backups now but when I started I was running out of space so I had to pick and choose what ROMs I backed up. When I discovered twarp it let me backup to my SD card so now I can do what I want. So yes I do back up but no after flashing for a few months I no longer have my stock back up

I'm guessing you already searched and couldn't find it.
It didn't work. For some reason it was only working on Sprint phones.

I just think it's inconvenient for people who want to flash tars that are not rooted. I do think the app is absolutely amazing though.

MobileODIN wouldn't work if it wasn't Root. Functional, not stupid.
Back on topic, on other devices that I have had, you can flash a custom recovery via the stock recovery but naming the file 'update.zip' and placing it in the root of the ext_sd. Not sure about the T999 series, I haven't looked into or tried it.
What about cf autoroot by chain fire?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
CF auto root requires Odin on a pc.
I really do not think there.is a way to do this. Sorry man.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Suggestion: Find an internet cafe (if you can find one that allows downloading exes)
Pay for the time you think you might need.
Download Odin
Download the files you need
You know the rest!
Or you must have a friend who would be willing to give you a go.
It takes about 15 mins to do it if you know what you are doing.
I hope that helps, cheers!
Thanks guys. Mods can close this topic now.
