Can you root the new 2.3.6 radio (<is that the word?) And if you update does it remove CWR
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
Try it and see. I would say, most likely, just follow the same procedure.
And you don't root a radio
Ok, I will try it when I get home. Luckily for me, I don't really care whether or not I have root

Why are you on a phone modding forum if you don't care about rooting and modding?
I mean, I want/like to change things on my phone. But I won't get upset if I can't.

Oh, ok. Rooting it should work the same as before. It may be the same as ICS and require an updated SU, though.

If you want to go back to completely stock unrooted, with stock recovey, you will need to use Odin to flash a stock rom. Why are you wanting to stay away from Odin? It's even easier to use than CWM.

When it comes to this phone Odin is your best friend and ONLY way to restore stock recovery. Look here and read a few times you shouldnt have any problems http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513359 if you rooted your phone you shouldnt have any problems unrooting it.
I think flashing back and using the zip file is quicker I done it had to send my phone back under warranty and got my replacement everything worked just fine they never knew I was rooted but what do I know

Just saying for a easier way I've done it so I know it works it unroots your phone and they can't tell anything has happened to it if people don't know what they are doing with odin I've used it before it's trusted but it's retard proof if that helps you sleep dude :what:

Although I agree with your answer to use ODIN, I just wanted to point out that GalaxyS2root is a legit site run by XDA Senior Member Zedomax. He roots phones and flashes ROM's for a living. Peace.

If you are that afraid of doing it, pay someone else to do it.
That way if they brick it (they aren't), you can sue them or something.

Define stock ICS. Stock as in Google's vision, or Samsung/T-Mobile's? If the second, yeah.
What? Why did you tell them no?
You don't need to root at all you just download Samsung Kies on your PC or Mac.

What do u mean? Question is not clear. If you are asking about getting ICS on phone without root then yes you can via samsung kies.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I think the OP meant vanilla ics. In which case you would need to root your phone to flash the custom ROM as TMobile nor Samsung is going to release AOSP for our phones.

Questions go in the Q&A section
Tell me if I'm wrong...
but, I'm looking at the notes for installing CWM and root here using odin and it doesn't look like you need root to flash CWM via odin.
Could he/she not install CWM w/o root and then flash a non-root rom (non-existent at the moment, sure, but new CM9 is not rooted by default for security).
So, unless there is something I don't know, then is there any reason that he/she couldn't do as I described?
Honestly, I'm thinking of working on an AOSP rom w/o root for security reasons. I'll have to look into it to see if it's worth it, because, honestly, I've never done it. I mainly just want a reason to get into some C hacking.
Hi everyone
Is there a way to hard brick my S2?
For testing purpose. Would appreciate
Feel free to PM just as well if the topic is not good here
update: forgot to mention, I can't use any USB type of flashing. My USB is not working for some reasons. So anything from recovery or type in shell should do. thanks again
Well, had to do a double take to make sure I was reading this thread correctly :what: Easiest way is to flash a ROM not intended for our phone. If you read all the "Help, I bricked my phone " threads, they usually flashed one for the I9100 or SG3. Now, you don't plan to use this info for malicious reasons, right? :sly:

Flash an .pit file, that will brick it for sure, you can also flash a recovery not intended for the T989, that will not boot up for sure.

flash any kernel with a zimage to the phone and guaranteed it wont boot again....dead...did it so i know. A simple way is click on unitegrate rom in titanuim backup and it wipes out your phone did this on accident too and phone was dwad no boot .. no lights.. nothing.
So I used the Odin one touch root here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835033&highlight=fh13+root
And it all seems to work fine, and I even got the PASS in the program, but when it rebooted, I got the Android System Recovery.
I hit reboot device in the Android System Recovery and it turned out that my device was not rooted, didn't even get the Super User app...thing.
So any help is appreciated with my situation. I did make sure I have ICS and FH13.
