Hello, I did quite a few searches on google and i never found anything similiar to my issue i am having. As the guide says on cm7.. i flashed SEMC 4.0.2.A.0.42 rom with flashtool, no errors or anything. However when i flash CM7.2.0 - FXP105 Kernel the one included in the zip with fastboot... It boots up and i spam the volume button and it brings up the kernel menu, however this is when issues occures for me. It freezes maybe after 20 seconds - 120 seconds, so i am not able to even flash the actual cm7 rom because of the kernel instantly freezing, and sometimes the menu cm7 kernel shows up glitchy just with a few texts. Then i tried to connect my charger to the phone, and now the kernel is glitch free everything works perfect, but as soon as i disconnect the charger the issues comes back
Kernel with update-cm-7.1.0.1 works perfectly but new ones does not? I tried the doomkernel aswell for cm7, and still same issue.
This is how i did it
1. Flashed SEMC 4.0.2.A.0.42 rom with flashtool
2. Flashed CM7 Kernel (the one included in the cm7 zip - fastboot flash boot boot.img)
And i can't go any further than this because the kernel glitches out.
I had a similar problem, try flashing .42 then boot, log in to your Google account and wifi etc., then flash cm7 kernel & rom.

Thanks! It did not solve the problem. Any other suggestions?
Flash with DoomLord Kernel v7 or v4, it actually should runs with all roms.

Use DooMKernel.
You can't change voltage with stock kernel.
but you must have connected to power source every entering to recovery mode.
Enjoy CM7/CM9 based ROM

Hi guys noob to these forums so bare with me,
I have one of the first ever revisions of the r800i fully unlocked etc. I have been using Cyanogen Mod 7.2 on it for months now with the free xperia kernel (cannot tell you which version all i know it is one of the very early versions) but I have now decided I wanted to change to another ROM however my kernel will not allow any other rom, it just boot loops. I managed to get DoomLord's Kernel for ICS 4.0.3 Alpha to work, with ICS 4.0.3 but that is the only kernel which will work. CM9.0 kernel just freezes with a pink light :/
Also any other dark forest kernel or doomlord kernel just boot loops too.
I also tried installing a clean version of CM7 and that just doesnt boot for its life, I have to restore my backup image to get anywhere, with my original kernel as i cant even get into CWM with any other kernel except for DoomLord ICS (and my original of course).
I did have the 36 firmware installed but since then changed to 42 and 62 (finding 42 to work best signal wise).
If someone could help me it would be appreciated very much.

Yup, been getting the same problem. I was only able to use the first ever version of DoomKernel for the Play but couldn't use any version after that as it always resulted into a recovery loop - Boot up phone, at boot logo shows blue light and goes automatically to recovery, try to reboot and same thing happens again.
Can't even use Keiran's kernels which use Doom's sources. :/

have you tried
Code:
fastboot -i 0x0fce erase boot
followed by
Code:
fastboot -i 0x0fce flash boot boot.img
The first command erases the boot partition, the second command flashes a new kernel (I don't know if it'd help, it's just an idea, and it can cause troubles, if you don't flash a new kernel)
ok thanks I shall give that a try

Still does exactly the same thing :/
Have you guys tried using either wotanserver or flashtool to flash back to stock then fastboot a new kernel?
(Both work with unlocked bootlaoders, well, I've tried wotan with a test point unlocked, I don't know about legit unlocking...)
I've tried it with Flashtool but doesn't work.

I get exactly the same thing using this software. I use flashboot in general anyway, I find it ALLOT easier than using fastboot itself, just can't seem to get my head around this problem :/
Have u tried the 1.6ghz version? What about doomlord advanced stock?

Tried both and same thing happens.
Have also posted about this in DooM's thread.

I am using MOODED 80.6 ICS Custom ROM with ArcKnight RC2 kernel (Baseband 70) in LT15i.
When i tried to flash the CM9 kernel (provided in the zip file) through fastboot.. it says its flashed .. but when i reboot, it shows blank screen.
So reverted back to MOODED ICS.
What am i doing wrong with CM9 ??

You have to use the FX CM9 rom with the fxp cm9 kernel.. according to what you posted you didnt install the rom..
the fxp kernel works only with fxp and fxp based roms..
Installation problem - CM9 fxp 122
Thanks for the reply..
The problem is i am not able to enter into CWM mode to flash ROM.
Screen goes blank when pressing the Volume down button after flashing the kernel and rebooting..
But am able to flash other ICS ROM's through CWM.
I want to try out CM9...
Thanks again..

Issue Solved
Thanks a lot..
Tried zip file from another link and it worked !!!
I'm glad that your issue was solved but please do give a proper title for your question. This way, you'd have more people who would respond to your question.
Cheers!
Dear all,
I am experiencing some trouble using different kernels on my R800i. I am currently running CM7.2 and the kernel that was released with one of the first RC's from CM7.1 - this is the only kernel (except the stock ones) that is working on my phone!
Any newer CM7 kernel or any CM9 kernel, Mjolnir, Drakforest, Doomlord or whatever kernel just won't work.
I see the kernel splash screen of the kernel and then it stays black or stucks and reboots. I could not even enter the recovery of any of theese kernels neither see the bootscreen of the installed roms. Only the old one I have is working.
I had always the right rom installed (CM9 for CM9 kernels, CM7 for CM7 kernels) and wiped data and cache. I tried reflashing the .62 firmware but after flashing the kernel its still not working. I tried to flash the Kernels using fastboot and flashtool, same result.
I tried the ICS official beta - the kernel from Sony works fine.
Can anyone give me some advice what i could have done wrong? I am really desperate on this, couldnt find any solution on google or in the other threads :crying:
I would really like to use CM9 but i can't because no other than my CM7 kernel is working ...
Thanks in advance for your replies!
Greetings,
Bombasti

No, stock firmwares and stock kernels are working fine, it's just that no other kernel than the one i have is working
EDIT: I remember that there was another kernel that was working, it was DoomLord's ICS kernel with touch recovery. But any current kernel from DoomLord doesn't work either...
Okay i still dont't have any idea. Today I installed Cm9.1 on my brothers phone ( he bought it 4 months after i got mine) and everything is working fine.
But if I do the same with my phone it won't work. Flashing kernel - kernel won't boot.
I even tried relocking my bootloader and restoring my phone with SE update service. Unlocked it again, flashed kernel - Won't boot...
Can anyone please give me some advice?

1. Flash the .62 firmware
2. Flash the kernel for your rom e.g. CM9 = the kernel inside the zip file OR LuPuS, Turbo, Mjolnir
3. Enter the recovery wipe data/cache and install the rom
Also make sure that you are flashing a kernel that is compatible with the ROM that you want to use.

Thanks for the reply! I did 1 and 2, but my problem occurs with 3. The kernel gets stuck before I can enter the recovery, by this i mean i see the kernel splash screen, then the display turns black and i see the splash screen again. Hitting the volume keys doesn't do anything
and this problem is not kernel specific... it's the same with almost every kernel i found in this forum :/

Make sure that you are pressing the right keys to enter recovery. For some kernels, such as Doomkernel and Lupus, it is not the volume keys but the Back key to enter the recovery menu.

Currently i have the kernel from the CM9.1 package, it should be the volume keys there, but back isn't working either. I usually press both back and volume if i am not sure.
What i really don't understand is why my old cm7 kernel (should be from august 2011) is working fine but any newer kernel be it CM7, CM9 or stock won't work...
EDIT: With stock i mean custom kernels for stock roms like Doom kernel.
EDIT2: Also the power LED should flash pink when i can enter the recovery ( i saw it at my brother's phone) ... no flashing LED with mine...

Ah ok, sorry I just kinda misunderstood you.
I checked it before i unlocked it, it said Bootloader Unlockable: Yes (or sth. like this) but i didn't check after i unlocked it.
With my current CM7.2 rom this *#*#SERVICE#*# thing doesn't work, I guess it only works with stock roms?
Should i reflash stock firmware just to check this? I dunno what i will get to know then, can you tell me please?

How he can flash the kernel with locked BT ?
His BT unlocked
hello there my names kyle and im new here but you can call me sangy, anyway i have joined the site to post this
i have had my play now for 6 months and i want ics and a new kernel, i heard lupus was the best one so i flashed lupus using fastboot and the correct rom. i have followed all steps correctly and the dam thing just boot loops after 1 min of booting unless i have my usb in my pc at which point the phone will stay on like it should without a single bootloop. so with a potentially bricked phone i flashed the stock firmware back v4.0.2.A.0.58 and re flashed a different kernel and rom still the same issue so i flashed back to stock again. if anyone can tell me how to solve this weird ass issue i will rate you +1 because im getting sick of having no cwm and incompatibilities with apps and i want to overclock
ps im planning on flashing doomkernel v14 hope this problem is gone but i know it will have the same issue.
my phones current state is this
xperia play r800i
stock kernel(2.6.32.9-perf) [email protected]#1
FW 4.0.2.A.0.58
baseband 64
android 2.3.4 ginger bread with root and unlocked boot loader
thats everything i know thanks for reading and helping in advance
edit: sorry if im not been precise but by boot loop i mean hot boot where the phone will run fine for 3 min then freeze and reboot on its own until i pull the battery or plug in usb in pc upon hard reset it even does this in kernel boot up

which lupus kernel, ics+gb v7 or lupus ics beta v12. have you tried flashing through flashtool because it always works for me and which ics rom as their are tons.
hello thanks for the quick reply
ive tryed the lupus ics+gb kernel latest version with the ics beta rom for xperia play and ive also tryed the lupus gb kernel latest version
and yes i have flash tool and all the drivers but a nice reccomendation on what to flash next based on my phones spec at the moment would be nice
also why am i the only person on the internet with this problem? ive heard of having 60+ apps on the sd to cuase hot booting but for me this is just out of the ordinare, particulary when ive whiped all the phone and flashed a new kernel.

With Lupus kernel, use R800i_4.0.2.A.0.79 firmware
will be flashing that stock firmware now over my other one then put lupus gb+ics over the stock kernel
will let you know if it goes well and fixes this
unfortunatly it did not fix it rom loads up, gets to the regular sony setup then freezes and hot boots. did this with lupus kernel ics+gb and the 4.0.A.0.79 firmware you linked me to. its either the kernel or my phone
just tryed doomkernel v14 with your FW kernel still crashes and reboots, is there something i have to do in flashtool because
every kernel ive flashed yet has the same issue.
note i can get a catlog app whilst it is plugged in then unplug it and wait for the crash and send it to you and you can see where its going wrong with the kernel and tell me what to do
thanks for reading these updates and sorry its taking this long to find and fix a big bug :good:

Did you tried any other ics/gb rom? Wipe your system/data from recovery before installing (and by installing i mean install from recovery with "install zip from sdcard")
Ps: maybe its stupid question, but is your sdcard full??? How much free space on it?
what recovery? this is an xperia play they dont have a recovery on stock kernels thats why im flashing one and no my sd card is not full
literally after i flash the kernal and boot up it will freeze and hot boot. the rom doesent factor in this. ive tryed 4 kernels so far the one that comes with cyanogen mod 9 and the 3 mentioned above
would flashtool logs be helpful if so tell me how to record them to a clipboard and you can see whats going on during the flash

For Lupus kernel - when powering on, keep pressing volume down for clockworkmod recovery or volume up for TWRP recovery.
Flash ROM from recovery that match kernel. Lupus ICS/GB V7 is for ics/gb roms based on stock (Sony) roms. Read in ROM's thread which kernel is recommended
With flashtool you can only flash .img files and in Xperia Play case, that is ONLY ics beta rom (but almoust all kernels come in .img format - so Flashtool is used to flash kernel). From recovery you can flash every other rom that you can find (just make sure that kernel match rom or else you'll get kernel bootloop)
ok this will be crystal clear
i can flash the kernal but even when booting the kernal and going into recovery to even flash a rom it will freeze and hot boot
meaning i did everything correctly with flashtool to do the kernel and with just the kernel installed (no rom) it still freezes and hot boots
as soon as i can stop these kernels from freezing i can flash whatever ics or gb there is in recovery
note: what are your settings for your flashtool as i might be missing a setting also the info from flashtool says at startup to disable MTP for 2011 devices, would this be my problem?

what kernel are you trying to flash? Be specific!
What rom are you trying to flash?
Disconnect phone from PC after you flashed your rom (any one, first boot must be done while disconnected)
the kernel i would like mostly is the lupus kernel
i can flash every kernel no problems, its the fact that the kernel crashes etc i can also flash the correct rom using flashtool the same thing happens
the case im trying to make is that you first install the kernel then flash your rom in recovery then the extras like wifi modules to the kernel
the kernel (dosent matter which one i try for my device ) has the hot boot issue happen to it no matter what i do before i even have a chance to install the rom(again the correct rom stock or not).
and yes i know you have to wait for boot ups on new roms and kernels, this isnt the first time i have flashed roms as i have a galaxy tab 2 running cm10 for the most part.
again thanks for the quick replys but i think this will require more technical solutions or debugging with my phone or software.

did these exact instructions but the new xparts dosent work so luckily the community had the older version that works,
followed everything buy the book installed cwm using xparts after root went into recovery, wipe data factory reset, wipe cache partition and i even wiped the dalvik cache, flashed the lupus ics+gb kernel booted into the custom lupus recovery (scrolled through the menu a minute) then as expected kernel crash followed by hot boot
any other ideas?

-Start flashtool, enter flash mode, hold back button on phone, connect to pc and flash .79 firmware. DO NOT BOOT INTO ROM!
-Disconnect phone and connect again in fastboot mode (hold search button while plugging it back)
-Flash Lupus ICS/Gb 480p or 720p kernel
-While still in fastboot mode, double-click file name "start.bat" from where you unpacked file in attachment.
-Disconnect phone, power on and keep pressing volume down untill you enter recovery
-Install rom and reboot

I don't know what you mean by "kernel still crashed in lupus recovery". In wich step you get that?
Try pressing volume up when powering on to enter twrp recovery
I hope someone can help my with this problem...
I had LuPuS v12 GB Kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849536
with Aurora Play 2.0 CRom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2124442
Working just fine, but i decided it was time to change to a ICS based rom... So, I flashed LuPuS v7 Stock ICS/GB kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2167766
Using this fastboot guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2054512
which, btw, was the same I used to flash LuPuS v12 ....
But when I tried to boot in recovery mode (Volume down for CWR, Vol Up for TWRP), the screen just says TWRP for Lupus or CWR for lupus, without any kind of options... If I let the XPLAY boot normally, it just loops en the kernel screen....
I realized that I had to fastboot-erase user data and system... So I did it, and then flash the kernel again, with the same result. Nothing appears in the CWR or TWRP screen....
So I gave up LupusICS and Reflashed Lupusv12 for GB again, using the same method... but I got stuck with the same problem! the screen just loops in the LUPUS screen, and nothing appears in the recovery screen....
I even tried to use this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493996
to see if I can get to recovery and use the restore option..... I get the FreeXperia Prpject screen, and then black.... NOTHING!
What did I get wrong? Is there a solution to this problem?
Please, help me....
Flash .79 or. 62 firmware with flashtool
Flash lupus kernel (ics or gb - your choise) ( but this time flash kernel with flashtool )
Erase system and data from fastboot
You should be able to boot to recovery.
I can't see what are you doing wrong, but steps above should fix any issues
Sent from my C6502 using xda app-developers app
Thank you

Thank you, I did the flashtool magic and it works like a charm... I used a "enhanced" firmware that comes with Auroraplay...
And I'm thinking, MAYBE this is why I got stuck.... MAYBE this firmware is not compatible with ICS Lupus...
Do you know where can I get a clean .79 or .62 firmware?
Edit: I got the clean firmware from here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1589399
I'm sorry that I asked before looking myself...
The next question (and I've already looked), flashtools asks for a kernel.SIN file.... I've only seen kernel.IMG files
How do I flash the kernel with flashtools?
2nd Edit: NVM, I'm so stupid XD I got the answer to that, too....
BTW, excuse my broken English... this is not my native language....
And again, thank you for your help!
