[Q] Need HTC Sync program - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Apparently I am unable to reach any of HTC's download servers for HTC Sync 3.0.5617.
Does anyone have a link to where I can download this software as I would like to unlock my incredible through the official method
Thanks in advance.

I've been in the same boat for the last few days. I contacted HTC asking why the download link doesn't work and they said their web site is being upgraded and they can't give an ETA on when the software will be available for download (which leaves me completely stunned).
I found a couple of links to Russian versions which didn't fill me with confidence. I ended up downloading version 3.0.5551 from softonic at this page (I can't post external links as a new user so I hope this is legible) htc-sync dot en dot softonic dot com, and after I installing it offered to upgrade to the latest version, downloading version 3.0.5617.

You can install sync from the cdrom drive that pops up when you connect your phone to your pc as a disk drive. Then update to the newest version thru the sync app it self. Although now that i think about it the CDROM.iso file has probably been removed or dissabled in a lot of custom roms, so i may just be typing for nothing.

Activesync 4.5 Beta 2 installation problems

Hi all,
i know this is a little bit off-topic, but I've posted it here in the Universal forum as it's relevant for those of us that have a Crossbow installation on our Universals.
you need version 4.5 of activesync installed to be able to sync.
there's my problem.
I can't get it to install.
the installer gets to about 95% and then the error message appears:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personal or package vendor."
can anyone help with this problem?
without Activesync my Universal is (for my) useless. I need my contacts & calendar!
I'm putting my trust and hope in you - don't let me down!
Thanks!
Have you tried downloading it again from Microsoft's site in case the one you have is corrupt?
mmmm....
....seems an incredibly abvious thing to do!
have downloaded it several times though and from different machines.
have also emptied my TEMP folder on the PC before installation.
still no luck.
bugger!

Best option run filemon and see what's happening/failing. Try turning off any virusscanner/any other weird app, that might be running buggering up file operations.
symantec
i guess that our corporate virus scanner is interfering.
annoying. the previous installations never caused any problems.
i'll have to see if i can get it to install another way.
i'll post back if i get lucky!
could i install if i do a safe start in windows?
SOLUTION
UPGRADE YOUR WINDOWS INSTALL TO VER. 3.0 download from micros or google it
SOLUTION
UPGRADE YOUR WINDOWS INSTALLER TO VER. 3.0 download from micros or google it

i keep getting reminders why i love this forum so much.
thanks to all of you for your help.
i only managed to try the solution today as i've been off work sick.
a HUGE thanks to PDAWHORE (nice name!), his/her tip to upgrade the windows installer software did the trick!
thanks to all and happy PDA'ing...

HTC sync, do I really need it?

Ok, here's the deal:
I don't like installing software on my computer that I don't need, and as far as I can tell, HTC sync is primarily aimed at synchronizing contacts and calendar to your computer, none of which I want or need. It also offers installation of apps to the phone, but for that I would prefer using either the adb tool from the sdk or just putting the apk files on the memory card and installing via a file manager on the phone.
First question:
I realize that I need the adb driver for my phone, and this driver is installed alongside/by HTC sync, so it is clearly packaged inside the HTC sync setup file. Does anyone know if it is possible to extract just the driver from the setup file? I know there is a zip floating around with the adb driver (I've downloaded that), but if it can be extracted from the setup file that's even better, since it would be an easy way to obtain the latest version.
Second question:
At some point in the future I expect there will be ROM updates to the phone. These are self contained exe-files, but according to the HTC support pages you need to have HTC sync installed to install them. Is this really true, or is it sufficient to have the adb driver installed?
Third question:
If I want to use the phone for USB tethering to give the computer internet access, which driver is needed for that? The ADB driver? Or must I have the full HTC sync installed for that to work?
Any answers appreciated!
Best regards
-Øyvind
Here are my answers to the best of my knowledge:
#1 - I have not found the driver available on it's on yet. However, I'm sure Mircosoft is soon to be adding it to it's list of drivers.
#2 - Most updates to the phones are done OTA ( Over the air), so you need not worry about about the HTC sync doing updates.
#3 - You will need the driver to tether your phone, but not the HTC desktop app.
For my setup I ran the setup file than uninstalled the HTC Sync but left the driver and everything seems to be ok.
Hope this helps
Thanks. Regarding #1, as I mentioned in the OP, a reportedly working ADB driver can be found in this post, but if it can be extracted from the HTC sync setup that would be even better. I've looked at it, but none of the files inside the setup file looked very promising (no inf-file to be found).
I know about OTA updates, but for older HTC phones (the Hero, for instance) there are downloadable rom updates. Are the exact same updates usually also sent out as OTAs?
As for #3, I know a driver is required, I just wanted to know which driver it was, and if it can be found separately.
Your tip on installing HTC sync to get the driver and then unistalling has been noted. Thanks.
+1 on installing and then uninstalling.
HTC sync installs two items, the second one, HTC Driver Installer, contains the ADB driver and the Tethering driver.
This was really helpful!
I tried installing HTC sync in a virtual machine to avoid cluttering my real machine, and during the install I chose "Custom". There I deselected the option for "Sync Manager" and installed only the "Application Installer" item.
I also monitored the install with a utility uninstaller, and it turns out that there is actually a "HTC Driver Installer" lurking inside the setup file. This file is temporarily extracted during the install, and I was able to manually make a copy of it before it was removed. The file name is HTCDriver.msi, and it contains all the driver files (both 32 and 64 bit). It can be used for a standalone install of just the drivers.
Thanks again! I think I'm fully sorted now!
Hi any chance of uploading the msi?

The file is ~14 MB, so it is too big to attach here. Any preferred site where I could upload it? The msi has been extracted from HTC sync version 2.0.33, btw.
Edit: I found out that 7zip actually could compress the file a lot more, so I have attached it. Please be aware that even though it has a .zip extension, it is really a 7z-file. Had to rename it to zip to get it to upload. The mods could perhaps allow 7z-files in addition to .zip?
MegaUpload or SendSpace personally

Hi,
Can you please share the HTCDriver.msi OR can the procedure or extracting the same from the setup exe?
Many thanks!

This file seems useless to my windows 10 laptop....

[A] How to MANUALLY Update to Froyo Android 2.2, links to FILE DOWNLOADS, HTC Sync

This thread shows how to update your HTC Desire GSM phone to Android version 2.2, Froyo, MANUALLY, using a WindowsPC computer, running the application "HTC Sync", connecting to your phone via USB cable. It's for usage if you have not been able to update Over The Air (OTA) -- and will provide you the exact same end result.
This is official HTC Software, for UNROOTED phones, phones that have only had official software that was originally installed, or OTA official updates. In other words:

You do not need to root your phone to run an RUU. These are official HTC updates that are designed for recovery or for people who cannot upgrade OTA.

RUU means "Rom Upgrade Utility" -- For unbranded phones, this process is straight forward. However if you have a branded phone, you have to add another step, and it's very important. It's also explained within...

Since this RUU is restricted to unbranded phones, you need a "goldcard" to bypass the check if you have a branded phone.

Quick Overview
1. Download 3 files you'll need -- to a Windows machine.
a) "HTC Sync" software that runs on WindowsPCs only. It is the program that puts the initial software on your phone via USB cable.
Get it here: http://www.htc.com/europe/supportDownload.aspx?p_id=312&cat=3&dl_id=933
b) The main ROM -- a .exe file -- located here:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
See that same file in full context here:
c) The update to the main ROM -- a zip file -- which will be copied to your phone thru USB cable, not executed thru "HTC Sync". It is located here, from HTC's site:
http://liveimage.htc.com/OTA_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8-1.21.405.2_release4dua3bcrut4wrv30.zip
2. Read Darren's Blog Post, it has good instructions. He's new to XDA, his 2nd post was only yesterday, but what a great entrance. Very helpful; interested in creating useful guides.
3. Watch his Video. It's easy. You'll feel ready to go.
More Details - About That ROM:
NOTE: "HTC BRAVO" = "HTC DESIRE" . Bravo was the original codename used by HTC before the Desire was actually released. You can confirm that by looking at the "DEVICE DATABASE" that is linked to from the top of every page on XDA-developers, under the XDA logo. All versions of the HTC Bravo/ Desire.

CyanogenMod Gapps

Hey there.
I just flashed CM7 RC2 via Clockworkmod Recovery 2.5.07 and everything worked out. (wiped Data, Cache & Dalvik).
I noticed that all of the Google Apps were missing so i rebooted the Phone. Now at least the Market showed up. After setting up my google account a prompt showed up which asked which Google Apps i want do download (via Market).
I had no Wifi COnnection so i skipped the installation. Afterwards i downloaded the newest gapps.zip from cyangogenwiki and flashed it via Recovery but the Google Apps such as Maps, Gmail etc wont show up in the App Drawer.
Any ideas?
(excuse my poor english. hope you got what i was trying to say)
hmm, i guess i got it all wrong. The gapps.zip ist just the core librarie so the market is able to work. And the mentioned prompt should be doin the rest.
for me (Germany) Gmail wont be installed so i switched back to GingerVillain 1.6
Sad that there was no reply at all...
... , as I got the same problem about 1 year and 2 weeks later.
I am writing here to this old thread because - likely - somebody else will have the problem and shall get an idea on what is causing it (and maybe find the solution here) ...
and as the forum is abused as a documentation tool and not as a communication tool and stuff is not written into the wiki (which is indeed a documentation tool...)
The actual situation is (from my maybe faulty understanding) that the GApps-Packages only contain those apps/libs which cannot be aquired by download from Google Market/Play Store.
Your and my problem is, that we are not allowed to download GMail from the Market/Play Store because of:
This item cannot be installed in your device's country

(exact quote cut out of the market's html code).
I will try to post information as I get it on how to solve this. Most likely a german Android forum will contain a solution to this obstacle.

[TOOL] Windows Phone Language Recovery Tool for Seven-Eighter Errors

Over the past month or so, I have heard stories of people choosing the wrong language options when they used Seven-Eighter to update their windows phone device and having problems after the procedure is over. Well, there is now hope for those people.
I have made a program which will allow you to restore language packs that you forgot to choose when you ran Seven-Eighter (either my version or the original version) to update your windows phone device. Instructions and download link can be found on my blog. I am sure that it is just as easy to use as my version of Seven-Eighter.
link to blog post: http://bit.ly/16Lv2iq
I am always looking to improve. I welcome any and all suggestions. If you want to throw something my way to help with development you are welcome to do so (just use the donate button next to my name on this post), but not required (your satisfaction works just as well).
Any tricks to using your app? When I launch it, I don't see any visual indicator that its running. There is a brief xmlmfile that gets created, but it never seems to have any content. Seven eighter itself runs fine.
Using Windows 8 x64.
Thanks for putting this out there, trying to recover my Phone now
