I was wondering if there were any ROM that completely gets rid of MTP. One that uses the standard Android connection. I'm having issues connecting the E4GT to my car via USB. I've tried the USB connection setting in the wireless menu as well as USB debugging and no dice.
Any ideas?
I may just have to wait until CM7 comes out for it...
Try Xplod v0.1 bloatfree, it has so much taken out along with MTP.apk so just maybe.

When I connect my phone to my pc it will charge, but nothing else. No connecting sound or notification on either the phone or pc. What's strange is it was working just days ago. Anyone have an idea?

The last rom I flashed was the rc version of cm6 and I had no problems for a few days afterward. And yes debugging is enabled
Wow, did you try a different USB port on the PC? Also did you tried connecting the ph to a different pc? My guess is may be the Rom but try a different USB port and pc first to confirm that...
If you are using the piece of crap USB cable that came with the phone, try a different cable. Seriously.
Hi I have wifi only if I want to use on the move or where this is no wifi which USB 3g modem is recommended? Also I will need a USB to mini USB lead ?

If you have a Xoom, and don't have a mobile capable of wifi-hotspot or bluetooth tethering, you're not doing it right.
If you are stock/unrooted you cannot use a USB modem (3G or 4G) with your WiFi only Xoom. The easiest thing to do would be to get a 3G/4G hotspot so you can connect over WiFi anywhere you go. Obviously this costs more than just a USB modem, but it also has more flexibility. If I really wanted this functionality this is the route I would go.
If you are set on trying to get a USB modem working, you are going to have to root your Xoom and install one of the Developer ROMS. I have used the Team EOS (Tiamat in the beginning) roms and with an older Honeycomb ROM some time ago I was successful in getting this to partially work. It is still pretty clunky as you have to build or buy an OTG cable to plug the USB modem into and then run some scripts in a shell window to load the driver and route the IP traffic. So yes it can be done, but it was difficult and just not very user friendly.
Here are some links to look into. Since this is all using pretty old ROMs I would not expect much support from the developers. I have not tried it on their latest JB roms, so who knows.

I just bought a galaxy s2 running stock gb on ebay and whenever I plug it in any pc it only charges. There is no usb notification nor does computer play a sound when the phone is connected. The phone makes a sound and just charges no matter what I do, I have tried usb debugging on/off and nothing. When I go into wifi/connection settings and select usb mode it says to connect a cable when the usb cable is already connected. I have tried many usb cables including the original samsung one.
Did I just buy a defective phone or am I missing something?
You need the drivers, either Google it or wait for someone to post a link, your call.

Try all usb ports as well! Even without the drivers you should still be able to use it as mass storage device

Are you using the right cable?

Are you using a data cable and not just a regular charging cable? You still see the option to connect mount the SD card evn without the drivers.

I'm not sure if this works on stock gb buy try going to settings/storage. Then press menu and if another settings option comes up then go there and see if there is an option to mount as mass storage device

Having the same issue, can it be that I am using a backed up ROM? I know that there are times when having a backed up ROM changes your system to R/O instead of R/W

MY PC basically does three quick beeps, like the ones it would make when connecting to the phone.... the only difference is when properly connected it would make one beep. I have 6 USB ports and have used all of them. In Root Explorer it states "Cannot detect SD card" that happened after i clicked on SD card to see what files were there.
I did a fresh flash of a ROM and now I am not having issues connecting to PC.
similar problem
I have the same problem of my gs2 not connecting to the computer. The only difference is that it isn't new, and I've been connecting to the computer using the exact same cord for a while.
I'm not really sure what the problem could be, it was working fine as recently as yesterday
Had the same issue I had to send it in for repairs USB port on the phone was effed up

Install moboro on ur PC, make sure developer options is enabled, and debugging is ticked, moboro will install needed drivers for phone to be seen, check to see if the phone is rooted y downloading root checker from play store, if it is rooted it may be an issue with the rom, try downloading Odin and putting the phone in download mode, Odin should see the device and say "added", if so go to sammobile.com find ur devices newest firmware and DL the file, use odin to flash the firmware on the phone, should solve all issue, u can also use Odin without being rooted too so, if u need more info, links or whatever, just let me know

WARNING
I had the same problem about a month ago. I had sent it to Samsung and they replaced the USB part of my phone. So if nothing works, DON'T PREFORM A FACTORY RESET IF YOU'RE ON STOCK! THAT CAN MAKE YOU STUCK ON A BOOT LOOP! but if you're lucky then everything will work fine. I only say this because it happened to me.
Running CM10 if that matters but wondering how I might get this to work. Only reason is so that I can hook my phone up to my car audio via usb cable (dont have bluetooth in my car). Ive confirmed USB Mass Storage works on an old Atrix
Thanks all!
This is about as close as its gonna get

The latest CM10 Nightly has USB audio. Under Settings, advanced, audio.

Yes I had that checked already and still is not playing on my headunit. However an older Atrix with UMS plays just fine.
Unless there is something on CM10 I need to do at the time I wish to play things?
Looks like I was enabled USB Dock Audio but there is a setting for UMS in CM10. Going to test on my drive home today. Thanks
sorry to revive a older thread, did this work for ums? i have a deck that wont read a s3, i am hoping to figure out a way to use it
Hi,
I just bought an adaptor cable for my n8010 to allow me to connect flash drives and other usb devices. However, every usb device that I have connected (a couple of flash drives and a usb keyboard) seems to have the same issue. Basically, I connect the device and it will continously connect and then a few seconds later disconnect the device. This just keeps looping until I physically disconnect the device.
With the usb keyboard I find that I can actually use the device while it says it is connected. However, I dont seem able to see the usb drives mounted anywhere.
Has anyone managed to get a flash pen and keyboard working using an adaptor cable?
Im using Revolution HD 4.1 if that makes any difference.
Steven

Try turning your note off completely, plug in the usb stick and turn on. I had the same problem. In the boot process the note discovered the device and now works fine. After the initial boot with the usb stick it appears to remember it and shows up automatically when I plug it in.

You sir are a GOD AMONG MEN! Ive had my device since Sept 2012 and havent been able to get a USB to work with it....Thanks for the solution, no more having to use FTP or Bluetooth (online solutions) or deal with removing SD cards to Xsfer data.

This seems to be the case for all accessories that use the 30 pin data connecter. I have tried 3 different usb adapters as well as the Samsung keyboard dock. None have any instructions indicating you have to restart the Note but that is what works.
ENJOY!

Is it possible to run a Internet USB Dongle with the original adapter, or with any OTG cable?
I need to have internet connection outside my house, and using an USB Dongle is my only option.
Best regards

I don't believe that's possible; however, you should be able to use your smartphone as a hotspot unless it's prohibited by your mobile provider.
