USB Mass Storage possible? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Running CM10 if that matters but wondering how I might get this to work. Only reason is so that I can hook my phone up to my car audio via usb cable (dont have bluetooth in my car). Ive confirmed USB Mass Storage works on an old Atrix
Thanks all!

This is about as close as its gonna get

The latest CM10 Nightly has USB audio. Under Settings, advanced, audio.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium

Yes I had that checked already and still is not playing on my headunit. However an older Atrix with UMS plays just fine.
Unless there is something on CM10 I need to do at the time I wish to play things?

Looks like I was enabled USB Dock Audio but there is a setting for UMS in CM10. Going to test on my drive home today. Thanks

sorry to revive a older thread, did this work for ums? i have a deck that wont read a s3, i am hoping to figure out a way to use it

[Q] Dinc compatible with GMC USB?

I did a quick search and did not see any other threads. I just got a 2010 GMC Yukon. It has a USB port that is suppose to be for mp3 media. I see that it allows ipods to connect to it and use your normal radio controls for control.
Anyone use their Dinc on this? I just figured out the bluetooth connection for calling and that is very cool
Try it out and see if it works

I did but got a message saying unsupported or something, didn't know if it was something I was doing or not.
Tried a regular usb drive and that worked perfectly, will try putting phone in storage mode

Car stereo USB

I could connect all of my other android phones to my car stereo with the usb. But now it isn't working at all for me with the GSII.
Thinking maybe I need to put the music on the internal storage and not the microsd?

That's a great question, but, I think the reality of the situation will be worse than that as it doesn't mount as a disk drive in quite the same way. I'm sure AOSP roms can address this, but, until then I'm not so sure.

when you plun in your ET4G to your stereo you should be able to navigate to the external sd card
on your phone its under
/sdcard/external_sd
i hope this helps.
OP, were you able to fix this issue? I'm having the same problem with my Epic 4g Touch. Unfortunately, my clarion cz300 stereo does not allow me to navigate to any folders. It automatically scans the entire sd card for MP3 and WMA files.
you should PM him and ask him to reply in this thread for us all to see.
Try going into the settings to wireless and network > USB utilities. press the button to connect as a storage device. This works for me. Can't remember if I was able to switch it before or after I connected the USB cord. It's been a while since i've had to use it. Let me know if that works.

Thanks, but I've already tried that to no avail. I've read through 20+ threads and tried every single suggestion. I'm starting to think my phone is not compatible with the stereo.

Will my tablet recognise my Sony Handycam? Can i upload videos to youtube from it?

Hey guys
So basically I have a Sony Handycam DCR-HC19E camcorder, and was wondering if i plugged it into my galaxy tab using the samsung usb adapter thing, will it recognise it and allow me to take and transfer files to and from the tab?
As i want to upload some videos to youtube but it wont work on my computer?
So im basically asking if anybody has got mass storage access to devices they have plugged into the tab 10.1
Thanks in advance for any help
Adam
I have a Sony dcr-sr100. It mounts to my galaxy tab 10.1 on stock firmware.
I have found that " high" powered USB devices are rejected by this tab, which is annoying. But i have found that how you connect the devices matter also.
E.g. if the adaptor is plugged in then i use my USB drive to the adapter is does not work.
If my USB drive is plugged into the adapter then into the tab it usually works, if not pull out and try again right away.
If you can get a powered USB hub, this will help for connecting more devices. Generic keyboard & mice work fine ( if not " high" powered)
USB mass storage otg app in the market will help to mount more drives at once and enable access to NTFS formatted drives which are not supported on the stock firmware.

This is the one I got.

I don't see much point paying more than this.
Also the " card reader" versions are designed to only mount one card at a time since that is how the stock device handles otg. But if you already have USB card reader your happy with, it can be used with USB mass storage OTG app from the market. ( Which also adds NTFS support).

Sprite cheers. I may just get a 3 pound one off Amazon, then see if it works

I got the corded version, as I thought it was more risky using the "Block" style one that might break the connector 30pin if it was knocked too hard.
There is rick of the corded version breaking on the cable, but it is a cheap replacement fix.

Ok, what information do you need?
You have made a statement but not asked a question. Answers to your statement have been covered above also.

Connect my Hox to Xbox 360.

Hi all ,Don't know if there's a fix or am I doing it wrong.Basically I've got xvid films on my Hox and want to play them through my Xbox360.
I'm getting as far as hooking the Hox to Xbox360 via USB but phones not being recognised. Please help........

i take it you set it to be in mass storage mode?
the hox goes into mtp mode i think - i couldn't get it to work with my tf300, same results that you got.
possibly to do with it mounting it as mtp device rather than just as a basic sd card
Yeah I selected mount as hard drive but no joy.
Do you or anyone have a workaround ?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
i've had a quick look just now, this indicates that android should be able to - i haven't tried it since tf300 jb update, so maybe it works on that now.
what you need, is support on the xbox 360 to read the mtp device. supposedly ps3 and xbox both have support for it, but theres a lot of others having troubles with the galaxy nexus (mtp) as well.
you could try using dlna? that would do what you need.. i've used imediashare lite (can't remember if it was on hox though) a while ago with decent results.
or failing the dlna method, you could use a mhl cable to connect it directly to your tv to watch the videos.

The Onex doesn't use mtp mode. It is mounted as a mass storage device so it should be recognisable

Nah the nexus 7 does.
Can clearly tell as with the n7 when plugged in shows as n7 in computer then within that is internal storage
Whereas the Onex once mounted is just listed like any other flash drive
It is weird why you can't get it to work though
I haven't personally tried with the 360 but when I have plugged it into my car head unit and mounted I have been able to navigate the storage and play music accordingly

I've had it work fine with a ps3 mounted in usb storage mode. Not very helpful to you but yeah

Samsung galaxy s3 on car stereo usb

Has anyone figured out a way to get their Samsung galaxy s3 working with a car stereos' USB? ( I have a jvc)

With your USB connection, it doesn't automatically connect? Does your stereo have Bluetooth? I use Bluetooth with my car and it works great. Give that a try if you have that capability. But with USB it should work, not sure why yours wouldn't. Rom/kernel? Maybe some more info on your phone specs...

im still tring to figure out why my phone won`t work in my car i have a acura csx or in the us a fully loaded honda civic with leather lol except i dont have a navigation no need when i got a gs3.............but none the less i cant listen to any music on my phone it says on my stereo UNSUPPORTED DATA.........;( i really dont know what to do my wife bugs me with her dame iphone 5...see mine works errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
maybe you have tried this
Have you tried settings--accessory? Make sure all of those settings are correct if you already haven't.
I've tried this before and it generally isn't something that works.
The receiver cannot determine what is music and what is not. So it ends up playing everything from music to ringtones to navigational directions. Basically any compatible format file on your external storage.
Receivers and phones are not set up to work together like this.

What about using a third party media player such as MX player? Just brainstorming...
