What's a decent windows phone? - Windows Phone 7 General

I'm looking to trade my sidekick 4g on craigslist for a windows phone and I'm wondering what windows phones are on par with this phone
Sent from my SGH-T839 using Tapatalk

All of them. That sidekick seriously sucks. An old Nokia N-Gage is on par with the sidekick.

If you're sticking with T-Mobile, check out the Nokia Lumia 710.

If your country has Lumia 800, then get the 800 for better display quality.
Otherwise 710

Since you asked for a craigslist trade, and not a contract....
HD2, should be able to trade yours plus some cash for the
Hd2.

Assuming you are staying on Tmobile:
Any of them will be good phones, and all the windows phones will run fast, smooth & stable.
If you want newer hardware you'll want a nokia lumia 710 or htc radar. You can also get the HD7 (NOT HD2). The radar also has a front facing camera.
The HD2 is a windows MOBILE phone, and will only run windows PHONE operating system if you hack it on. The HD7, however, is a 1st generation windows phone that tmobile had for awhile. Just make sure its the tmobile version and not the AT&T version if you get that one (at&t's wont have the 3G bands for tmobile).

Omnia7 - the best camera and screen resolution and light rendering

I would go with the HTC Radar 4G. I like the Lumia 710 but w/o the front facing camera and Skype "coming soon"(forever) I fear it may be missing a possible key feature. I had an ffc on my Android phone before my windows phone and I never used it but I actually use facetime quite a bit on the iPad.

Martingh
With Lumia 800 Nokia launched the first window supported mobile phone which work on Microsoft Windows Phone 7.5 Mango platform

it's all personal preference
There is no such thing as a bad windows phone, when you compare to other windows phones. they all run the exact same operating system (more or less) and have a minimum specification bracket that they must adhere to. so if you want a windows phone, the things to look at are:
1. Screen type (LCD, AMOLD, etc.)
2. Processor speed,
3. Camera quality
4. Screen size
5. Aesthetics
If you want a nice looking screen, perhaps the omnia 7 is best for you. A do-it-all powerhouse? perhaps the HTC TITAN, with its massive processor and huge screen. a nice-looking phone that can hold its own against most other devices on the market? The Lumia is your best bet. if you want a cracking camera, then maybe wait for the HTC TITAN II, with its gargantuan snapper and seperate camera processor. so basically, the phones themselves are more or less the same, in terms of functionality and user experience. its what you want to DO with them, thats what makes the difference.

I just received my HTC Radar three days ago. its really decent 3.8" phone
the build quality is top the display is very crisp and the phone is
really fast.

Samsung Focus or Focus Flash.. Both are exceptional devices.

NOT TRUE.
HTC Titan was released before that.

T-Mobile is the best (for me).

I recommend you to get a HTC Titan

Omg the guy is trying to trade a Sidekick 4g. He will not get a Titan for such a device.
It might be better to just trash the Sidekick and just buy another device.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk

The titan will not work on T-mobile's 3G network, however it is rumored that a revised version of the titan and lumia 900 is in the works for T-mob.

Thinking how Nokia is putting it all for WP, i would personally go for Lumia 710.
Like said, there really isn't much of a difference between the second generation devices in a same price range.
So i would go for the one that's most desperate for people to buy the devices. Nokia is sure to keep churning more free apps to it's WP Nokia Collection.

You can't go wrong with the Radar or Lumia 710. I've been using the Radar for the past month and a half and I love it. At first I was put off by the smaller screen size, I came from the Dell Venue Pro, but I've found it be awesome. Since all current Windows Phone's support the same resolution you shouldn't be 'too' bothered by a smaller device. It fits great in my pocket. Network connection is fast with T-Mo's "4G". Right now I'm tethering to my laptop

htc titan or nokia lumia 800

hi
i am using samsung galaxy s2 and sick of flashing a new rom or kernel for better performance everyday. it still lags and is not as smooth as windows os or ios.
i had samsung omnia 7 before that and loved it but the only thing that made me sell it was no support for viop on windows phone os.
htc titan looks good and also has FFC a big + for me
Nokia 800 is good too but doesnt support FFC .
Should i buy the omnia 7 cuz the 2nd generation of windows phones dont have anything special and dont impress me that much.
what should i buy? An honest opinion plz.
thanks
It looks like the front facing camera isn't a big deal for you since you're willing to buy an Omnia 7, so in that case I think the Nokia 800 would be the nicest phone. But if FFC is important to you, then I would buy the Titan.
Just to let you know, Samsung just released the Omnia W in Europe with FFC and 2nd gen processor at 1.4ghz. Check it out
I think HTC Titan will be better due to the big screen
Well say that you should get the Nokia lumia 800
Sent from my SGH-i917 using Board Express
tbh this isnt a straight question as the Titan and Lumia are 2 differant fish. The big quesition isnt the ffc but more the size. if the big screen is important then there its the Titan otherwise the lumia is a better build and a better quality screen. Plus if its not important to have the size i think the mass of the thing will get annoying.
FFC as said before there is the omniaW that could be a good option for you. I personally would and have gone for the lumia 800 for the reason of quality and style. Its not ony the most stylish wp7 it is im my opinion the most stylish gadget of all time. Plus the screen i amazing and you get the navigation. I know you can hack it to other phones but why bother when you can have the proper deal.
personally i like HTC titan...nice mobile...nice look...this is my opinion.
For me it comes down to screen size and FFC, so the choice is pretty simple... the Titan.

I have the Titan, it is indeed a good looking phone, I need the big screen for my old eyes! However, I was playing with a lumia 800 in a phone shop and they are really awesome in the hand
I vote Lumia 800.
The lumia is a lovely looking phone, but having played with a couple in the shops, the build quality doesn't feel as good as the Titan - the hardware buttons around the side of the phone are a little lose. It feels nice to hold etc... but the screen is just a smidgen too small for my liking (I think around 4" is the sweet spot).
The Titan is just a touch too big as well, but I prefer the Titan being a bit to big than vice-versa. The screen on the Titan is brilliant - the image quality is top notch, and I think it's every bit as good as the screen on the Nokia from first impressions.
As mentioned already, if FFC is important then there's not even a question to be answered. Otherwise, it really comes down to whether you want a bigger screen or not, everything else will be fairly equal.
I really was waiting for Nokia's first offering, but am severly underwhelmed by the two phones they've launched. The leaks were all indicating a 4 inch (or there abouts) phone with FFC etc... which would have been exactly what I wanted, as it is, once they launched their phones, I immediately went and got the Titan, and don't regret it so far.
Lumia for me.
The screen on the Titan is too big for me. I wouldn't want anything bigger than my Omnia 7 as that is already on the limit as far as pocket space goes for me.

Nokia 900 (ACE) - New Info (Rumors)

- same polycarbonate unibody as 800
- 4.3" clear black amoled

The glossy finish is up to the feedback they receive. I can almost guarantee people will say they prefer the matt finish of the 800.

I'm probably one of the only ones, but this sounds like it would be perfect for me... if only it had a portrait QWERTY (slider I assume) keyboard.
Is it too much to ask for someone other than Dell to make one?
The glossy finish might mean a white version like the n9. They just need to include all of the n9 features but with a bigger screen and better camera.
I just upgraded my hd7 to 32gb but would buy this still but would prefer a 64gb version. If they can do it for the n9 they can do it for this one.

Hope this rumor is true. I wanted to purchase Lumia 800, but 3.7" screen seemed too small. 4.3" screen with the same body would be awesome!!
If true its my next device and carrier. In my area Tmobile is junk and att is way better. I prefer the matte finish. From owning the dvp, I have learned that this physical keyboard is useless. Because I early ever use it.

for me it depends..
I use my quantum keyboard all the time, though with a screen that large I could definitely cope without it.
If this comes to Canada it is my next phone for sure.
C'mon TELUS, bring in something worthwhile..
I have a question about these Nokia Lumia devices. Do the Lumia devices offer a LED charge light or LED notification light? I miss this on my DVP and was wondering if it will be on these devices, havent seen any so im suspecting not.
If its true this has LTE - Verizon I'm coming back!!!
Still doesn't sound like enough differentiation. It might stand out design-wise but it sounds hardly worth the wait. Now, if they brought an N8 class camera and Tango brings better camera options: I'd wait in line. For now, the Samsung Focus S brings the same CPU and 4.3" AMOLED+ which is better than March.
AT&T gets the Titan, TMO gets the Radar.
AT&T gets the Nokia 900, TMO gets the Nokia 710.
It appears that my HD7 will continue to soldier on. It dissappoints me after TMO's relationship with mega-screen Windows phones: HD2>HD7>??? Where's the successor?
I actually went and played with a Radar and it was a nice phone. It is simply not worth giving up the extra screen space.

Gonna wait for the WP8 devices. I'm still VERY happy with my original Focus, especially following the Mango update, so I won't waste my upgrade on a "mid generation" device, which is really what every single one of the new WP7.5 models are.
What else could they possibly offer that the lumia 900 can't be upgraded to wp8. Are you telling me it can't be upgraded to wp8
Sent from my Venue Pro using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Perhaps the Nokia Ace will have some NFC features built in. I've been reading that MS have recently clarified that WP7.5 does not have ny NFC capability (regardless of OEMs including the tech in their handsets), but they are working on it for 2012 as requested by Samsung and Nokia.
I'd like to see NFC for features like bump to pair with bluetooth speakers, bump to pair with car kits, and of course for electronic payments.

WP 7 Tango for TP 2

Look at This : The lower RAM footprint may be viewed as an attempt by Microsoft to make their mobile OS more compatible with cost-conservative phones.
In light of the current partnership between Windows and Nokia, it makes sense that Microsoft would want to improve Windows Phone OS amongst mid-tier mobile devices such as those offered by Nokia.
While official specs list 256MB as minimum system requirement, most current Windows Phones utilize 512MB.
Another added feature in Tango is the ability to sort applications in folders on the start screen, which should make finding apps easier and the start screen less cluttered.
As we reported last month, Tango should go live in Q2 of this year.
We wonder if Windows phones with 256MB of RAM would have to bear with some sort of compromises in the visuals or multi-tasking department to ensure the same level of performance.
http://www.gsmarena.com/windows_phone_tango_to_reduce_ram_requirements-news-3702.php
Someone know something about this ???
with regard to the above... i think that there will be another lease of life to the TP2 after all. according to this article http://tech2.in.com/news/notebooks/wp-tango-to-need-only-256-mb-of-ram/275552 256mb is all thats needed to run window phone Tango.
But what about processor?
Every source in the web says that minumum required is ARMv7
I would love to see WM7 on my TP2 !!!
Finger crossed !
This old out dated phoned can barely run WM 6.5 smoothly, what makes you people think it will run WP7 any better?
If you guys really want to try out WP7 why not get a cheap used one on eBay?
If I get a cheap WP7 device from eBay, is not the same pleasure like update an old device that I already have .... Sorry for my bad English
WinMo was flawed and Microsoft knew that... Same way we got Android on TP2 maybe we can (read; developers) make tango run on tp2
Not gonna happen.
Just like maxidus mentioned, the processor architecture is the main problem.

of as all, Jackos best understands the Rhodium architecture if he feels that its not going to happen. probably its just best if we all get over the idea that we will have live tiles on our rhodium's. besides, Jackos the last true developer for TP2 has moved on to android and has even sold his TP2. if u want live tiles buy a dedicated Windows Phone 7 phone.
Getting me a HTC Radar (stock unlocked) from India in a weeks time. Retiring my TP2... Its being real
What about the HTC 7 Pro aka HTC Arrive Sprint has in the US? I remeber there was talk HTC was to release a Touch Pro 3 and that went on to become the HTC Tera; a low-end version of the Touch Pro 2 but with a 3 inch screen; the HTC 7 Pro is a 3.8 inch screen and slightly smaller form factor which was easier for keyboard users. If you can find a unlocked version of the phone running GSM, I would think that would be more practicle than making our beloved Touch Pro 2 run Windows Phone 7.5. I use a Titan over on AT&T; it has its positives and its negatives; negative being short of running Chevron on it; there's no getting under the hood of this thing. I own 3 of the Touch Pro 2s...two GSM and one CDMA...love them all...I run Co-Pilot on all of them and keep pre-paid minutes on them for emergency backups.

Lumia 900 experience

Hi, I recently preordered my Lumia 900 on the 30th. I was able to play around with the 900 while doing so. I noticed a few things compared to my current DVP. I love the screen on my DVP and think it looks awesome some may differ. One thing I did notice about the Lumia 900 is that the screeen sensitivity and scrolling didnt seem as fast as my DVP. I can flick the screen of my DVP and it scrolls very fast through the homepage. Colors seemed to be a bit washed out to me not as much as the Titan imo. Some people differ. On the DVP the colors seem to be very vibrant and alive. Not sure if it was due to the color choose the owner had or what but I didnt care to much for it but it didnt detour my decision to buy it. The lumia 900 felt light to me after coming from a DVP, this thing is heavy. Lumia 900 was also thinner and felt great and solid in the hand.
Few things I didnt get to test out was the volume of mic, speakerphone, and headphone jack. Nokia has been known for their loud speakerphones but not sure if they brought that over to WP. Output of the headphone jack is important to me but at the same time not really because I have a headphone amplifier that increases the volume because I use the headphones a lot.
But on the other hand im satisfied and cant wait to get my 900. Cant wait to see what apps Nokia will come up with. Im looking for an audio eq app from Nokia that would be great for me using my headphones a lot. But im going to enjoy my Lumia until the Nokia superphone comes out to replace my 900. I hope Nokia comes back to the states and take over like they did before. I remember when Nokia was the phone to get and they had tones of third party accessories for differentiating phones to whatever you wanted.

as an ex dvp owner I tend to agree with you. The screen was pretty good, and the scrolling speeds were amazing. Only the Samsung focus was on par with display. While the scrolling speed of the 900 is not the same, don't equate scrolling speed with overall speed. The 900 blazes.
As far as weight. The dvp was heavy, but it was a good heavy for me. The 900 is heavy in comparison between apples and oranges, but, to me, it fits nicely in my hands and does have a very good balance.
Perhaps the scrolling speed will have an adjustment somewhere

You know the touch seemed to be more accurate on the 900 than the DVP. The DVP scroll speed is something I will miss but hopefully they will either have a fix or bring in a setting that can change this. When I did look in settings I didnt see anything that could change this but im moving on from the DVP, it will still be around if I dont like ATT service.
really, i have tried a lot of windows phone and have not seen that difference. I used a samsung focus, htc titan and tried the L900 that i too preordered but didnt notice this things.

everyone has something they like, or don't like, best. Unless you had a Venue Pro, you may not know what we're talking about. The vp's up and done scrolling was incredible. A single flick with your finger could send scrolling forever. I've been exposed to most first Gen phones, the VP was the best at that flick.
Its such a small thing. The 900 is not broken by any means. Its just that in comparison, the VP could take off.
No big deal at all...
For me; I think im going to love the screen on this phone. I love Nokias clearblack technology displays. I would get the n9 if it was the same size as the lumia 900 since it has android and meego. ive only had HTCs really and a few other devices. and HTCs screens tend to not be the best.. also their build quality of their recent phones (sensation/amaze). compared to an hd7, this thing is s beast. Don't get me wrong, the hd7 is pretty DSM hood. But it's the poster child for old, taking its chasis design from the hd2. My girlfriend still uses it. She'll be getting my focus s next week.
After enduring a year or so of android, build quality is on top for me, followed by reliability. Both thongs seriously lacking in android. before any android lovers scream, android is fine...if you like modding. Otherwise its second rate...imo . Its a great tablet platform...fire and xoom.

I was thinking about that the other day. I too modded my winnow to no end. So aneroid was attractive. I think thechange for me came when I realized that aneroid is one big mod, and operators allow a certain amont of it just to survive. In my opinion its leading to a huge mess.
With windows phone, stuff works out of box. Apps work. I don't have to worry about which version or which driver, etc.
That's not to say I'm 100% happy with winphone. I wish a slightly more flexible color scheme was in place. I would love black on white tiles,or white on black combos. I'm sure other people have their thoughts. I don't need the operating system ripped apart, or apps hacked and tweeked just run. If it wont run right on my phone, I don't want it. But that's just me..
I personally think android is getting ready to break. Too many low quality phones...too many os varients. Ice cream sandwhich is a great hit, and what's next...jelly bean? Too many exposed parts...just my opinion. I spend a lot of money each year on phones. The 900 will be my fourth this year, plus a kindle fire. I just want my phone reliable. Right now that means iphone or windows phones. Just too many broken andy Rubin looking things running around.
my experience with android is allright, i have an hp touchpad that i put ics on it and made wonders, but kinda bricked my samsung vibrant. Android is cool but i could never use it as a daily driver. I cant wait for my pre ordered nokia lumia 900! currently using an htc titan and cant stand the video lag that occurs every once in a while. Never happened on my focus but happens on the titan all the time.
Just read the reviews of One X on verge and Engadget, that phone looks gorgeous. Lumia 900 also looks gorgeous but not sure about the low resolution display of the WP7. I'm pretty sure WP8 will support higher resolution displays but it always bugs me on the current WP phones. Hope MS pushes the next gen of WP OS pretty fast.
My wife has a Asus transformer with ice. I liked the change at first but the OS still lags and gives problems. Not liking that. Android is a big mess and I never liked the UI layout at all. To cluttered.

dude, the one series will be awesome, the phone to beat, if HTC can pull it off. I was an avid HTC user until most recently when the quality just tanked. They've promised to restore the quality and build less variants. We'll see. Last HTC phone I like was the nexus one. If HTC can dupe that, winner!
But windows phone is mine now!!

back in 2010 it was my favorite phone, it was one of the best choices. I only had it for a few months before I traded for the atrix + $70 and was full of regret. yeah build quality with android devices is a huge problem. HTC just release the one s/x and they have really good build (looks like they copied a bit from nokia). but im tired of androids fragmentation. and the lumia 900 is really cheap for a new phone considering my amaze still sells for $400 on ebay which is ridiculous so im probably just going to trade.
yeah, android isn't bad I just don't use half of the features and I miss the super smooth-ness of wp7 and all the integrated Microsoft stuff.
apparently its the #1 selling phone right now

[Q] Is this phone really worth it?

Okay so my HTC Inspire has recently stopped working so my father decided to pick up the Nokia Lumia 900 for me at his work. He says that I can either use this or pay the $125 insurance fee and get whatever phone AT&T insurance offers me.
My question is, is this phone good at all? I always hear that Windows based phones are trash so I would like to know if this phone is any different.
If Lumia 900 users could please tell me their experience with this phone, I'd greatly appreciate it as I have never had a Windows phone.
The phone is awesome so far. Don't expect the market to be as plentiful as the play store but the apps they have are good and meet my needs. I am an Android fanboy however wp7.5 has grown on me. Build quality is great and camera is stunning. Over all I would recommend the lumia or the Titan 2. Hope this helps. I plan on picking up a wp8 device next.

It's a middle of the road handset spec wise, but the design is wonderful, and depending on your phone usage purposes Windows Phone is fantastic. It lacks a few features that iOS and Android have, but its own exclusive features outweigh the losses in my opinion. It really comes down to whether or not you rely on apps that aren't featured in its marketplace, and whether the tile aesthetic appeals to you.
I think it's worth your while having a play around with it to see how you feel about it personally. Using someone else's phone for a bit and actually using your own phone daily are two very different experiences...
I love the phone. It's solid, reliable, sound quality is great, pictures are very good, fast. Never crashed on me. Lumia 900 is super.

noooo
after sm time u will get bored by windows phone
instead go for note 2
its quick, smooth, and tough as nails, ready to be worked to death.
I love it, its a great value. I have had many cell phones since the mid 80's and this one by far has been the best I've had yet, gonna keep it until the new ones get as cheap as this one was...

I couldn't agree more!
I am a Note user myself, but I still enjoy my Lumia 900 as a backup phone...
The Note 2 is a hardware beast, however I think Samsung must stop using cheap building materials if they want to compete in durability.
I haven't seen another smartphone with such great built quality as the Lumia 900, so kudos to Nokia just for that. The Lumia 900 is a tank!
Cheers!
Im going to be honest and clear. The phone blows. I owned it for around 4 months until Nokia and MSFT decided to turn my flagship phone into a legacy device. I always waited for the update to totally improve my lumia but it never came. Anyway here goes.
Camera
-****ty Camera Quality
-Grainy Pictures
-Video is OK
-Overall Nokia is known for great cameras but this phone's camera is absoleutely ****. It doesnt deserve to be called 8MP. Its worse than the iPhone 4's camera. When I switched to the GS3, the camera was miles better.
Apps
-Barely any apps
-Mainstream apps suck
-no good 3rd party apps
-No (goodwill)
The app selection is beyond terrible. Not only is the platform dead itself because no Windows Phone 8 apps will work on the Lumia 900 but WP 7.8 isnt even out. Furthermore, the mainstream apps are horrible. The twitter app is nothing like its Android/iPhone counterpart and the Facebook app isnt even made by Facebook (Made by MSFT). I will say that Nokia has some good apps but overall the app selection blows. You wont find any big companies like Instagram or Pandora or Gameloft games, but you wont even find apps such as an app for your bank or any other good 3rd party apps for other companies.
(I also want to add that you cant unlock the AT&T Lumia 900)
The Little things
-No orientation lock
-no screenshot capture
-No VPN support
-No Battery indicator (atleast in the statusbar)
-There's a lot others but I mostly forgot since I moved on to the GS3.
Overall the phone is NOT worth it. Sure if you are using it for a limited time, it will be a nice change from Android but its not a long term feasibe option. Everyone who owns one (and who is a techie anyway) has to make a huge compromise. Hope my input gave you some value.
No, I think the Nokia n9 is much better of a buy..
I like wndws phone 7, but I eventually gt bored of it. Don't get me wrong, it's a excellent device.
