Hey All,
This is my first post so be gentle please. I've looked down a few pages and didnt see anybody ask this question. Also did a search and couldn't really find anything. I figured since it was a question I had this was most likely the best place to ask. Anyways, a question about 2.2 root. I've rooted my HTC EVO from 2.1. I've played around with most roms and am currently using CM6. Long story short, would I gain anything from flashing to 2.2 stock HTC and then re-rooting? Does my current configuration keep me up to date with everything android and sprint to make it the most fastest possible download/upload network speed and call clarity?
No point in it. nothing to gain.

Son... did Leonardo da Vinci question the Mona Lisa?

Fair enough. Thanks for the input!
There are rooted 2.2 roms. Or I mean wont make you lose root. Also for updates on sprint apps you need to download the sprint apk. I have c6 also. And only use the vvm or visual voicemail. There is a post with the sprint update apk and tried it. Not sure if it works as my vvm isn't the newest one and has not popped up to upgrade. So I took it off and found the updated vvm in a zip. So for sprint updates you wont have unless you have sprint updater. If you get it to work when you find let me and others know in here for future reference.

Hey guys. I know I can always count on XDA to get my info. I just got and EVO a few days ago. I have it fully rooted using unrEVOked method. I had T-mobile before and had the MyTouch 1.2 which I learned inside and out thanks to XDA. This EVO blows that phone away. Even though I just bought this EVO, I got the 003 hardware version and not 004. First off is the only difference between the two the camera? Second what is the difference between 3.30.651.3 and 3.29.651.5? Will the 003 hardware version get the OTA update to 3.30.651.3? If I flashed a 3.30.651.3 ROM to my 3.29.651.5 phone would it cause some major problems or should I wait until the OTA comes to my phone if it does? Why would I get an outdated phone sent to me when there is an updated version available? I know these are probably n00b questions, but we all have to start somewhere. Thanks for the help in advance. I have been reading to find the answer to some of these questions, but the EVO threads are huge and am having a hard time finding the answers I am looking for.
Im running a 3.30.651.5 rom on an 003 evo with no problems but iv heard others have excessive battery drain. Id stick with an older version that is actualy for your hardware though cuz your not missing out on anything, the newest ota was for a camera fix on 004 hardware phones.
Ok thanks cynic. I don't see how the ROM would cause excessive battery drain when the only thing changed was an update for the camera. I guess I could try one of each out and see if I notice anything.
Im sure theirs more to it but thats just the major difference that i know of
I understand. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. Also are the cyanogen nightlies based on 3.29 or 3.30.

Glad to help :-D im not sure about cyanogen though. It may not be either if it was built from the ground up. Shouldnt give you problems though, newest is cm6.1
Yeah I thought about cyanogen being an AOSP after I asked the question and figured since it wasn't posted in any thing that should be compatible with both. Thanks again for your time.

cyanogen is based on android source. currently it is android 2.2.1 build FRG83. sprint/htc still currently use 2.2 FRF91 or something.
So it is safe to use CM on any hardware version as long as the kernel works? Also, does anyone want to give me their experience with certain ROM? I am not asking which is best for me, but just want to get an overall on which ones are working best or are the communities favorite for the EVO. I am rooted but still running stock rom. I want to use a custom rom but am still reading & trying to get familiar with this phone & its development.
Oh yeah. One more question. I received an update while rooted. It was a PRL update. Is this normal? I know that probably sounds very n00bish, but I just thought rooted I wouldn't get any OTA's. Will I still get OTA's from Sprint while running stock rom rooted?

Seems to be true.
Also, does anyone want to give me their experience with certain ROM?
I run virus roms, he has a sense version and one without sense. Myns warm 2.2 is quite popular as is fresh rom.

Yes you will still get notifications to update, hardware updates are not recomended for rooted users as they may break root, but prl updates are fine
Everyone was a noob once, just glad to pass along the info.

Ok dumb question but how would you go about upgrading to gingerbread on a rooted phone?! I can't seem to find the answer anywhere & I'm scared when the time comes I won't know how.

I assume you haven't rooted?
You'd have to flash (install) a ROM that's based off of Gingerbread. Right now, there are only two or three of those
I have rooted & flashed myns warm. that's what I'm worried about..or my question I guess. How would I get gingerbread on my rooted phone.

Like would I update through Sprint or is it something I have to do manually?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Manually or wait until they push it out officially.
Using my HTC Evo phone which I'm using Xda app to post
At the moment you would have to do it manually. As far a I am aware the few roms that are available are not yet completely stable, and not all the features are working. Cyanogen is working on CM7/gingerbread, but has not released a build. Sounds like they're getting close though, as he tweeted he's using it as his daily driver.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
there are 3 Gingerbread ROMs in the Android Development forum thus far. They're all in Alpha or early Beta forms currently, and for most people are not stable or feature-full enough to be daily users.
If you're new to rooting I'd shy away from flashing experimental Alpha builds unless you're ready for some troubleshooting. It might be in your best interest to wait until they are more general public ready.
If you are interested, here are the links to the 3 I'm aware of:
Comes tweaked so far. Not really stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878020
Pretty much stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877653
Pretty much stock as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881557
I've personally used the 2nd and 3rd. Both worked for me but not without some issues for sure.
Oh and no matter what, get very familiar with recovery and NAND BACKUPS (nandroid). Especially when trying these alpha roms, get used to backing up your working roms and restoring them.
Everyone is so helpful but I'm not trying to do anything with my phone until it's officialy released. I just don't know how being rooted effects updating. I don't know if I'm wording this correctly...lol sorry
what my friend is trying to tell you sinse you are rooted you have to wait untill a rom w/ gingerbread on it which he provided some for you. and if you apply it manually you may be un-rooted then until unrevoke or others can break it .
Hi all
anyone know of a fully woking gingerbread rom at this point?

CM7 is the closest. Was using as a daily driver until yesterday to run Z3. Everything but 4g, which no GB rom has.
Check out the cyanogen forums for the latest nightly builds, and the CM7 thread in the general section for any Q's or info.

I was running the latest leak 0.14 and I went back to version 2.008.03_PA_CA and it says that I do not have a update available. Any reason why I would getting this instead of getting the official ICS update?
If it's any help, I was on the .012 leak, and downgraded to 3.2 - didn't see any updates after a day of constantly checking for updates. Manually went to 3.2.1, same thing, no OTA's.
I was originally on GEN2, went over to GEN1 in December/November. On the AcerTablet forums, there were quite a few folks on GEN2 that haven't gotten ANY OTA update since they got their tabs, and even a couple that were still on 3.2. I'm starting to wonder if there is something else going on with the GEN2's. I think I'll downgrade to stock 3.2.1 GEN1 again today, and see if anything has changed.
I too have a Gen2 I'm a bit nervous to run an update on mine yet. I guess downgrading to the Gen1 rom should make it easier. I gotta say though I'm a bit bummed that Acer hasn't done anything to update the Gen2 A100's.

I downloaded and downgraded to the above version and once I got the tablet up and checked for an update it is saying it will update to 2.008.02. Should I do this update?
Just did this last night. Yup

That first one should be like 17mb or so. Then the full ics will be a whole lot bigger.

I never got the ICS update. Mine just says that it is already up to date.

Yeah, I'm back to the "your device is up to date" message, even though I'm on stock 3.2 (GEN1), build 1.014.08
Maybe we're at the bottom of the list to be updated.

So I got my inc2 back up and going and did a factory reset. It's on stock 2.3.4. Well for some odd reason it tried to ota during the reset. Now, when I check for an ota it does nothing. If I try to boot into recovery (stock recovery) I get the phone&triangle. Anyone have an idea what's going on? Also, I'm wondering if anyone has figured out a way to root this thing computer free? I doubt it but I'm hoping since I no longer have a computer

As far as I know 2.3.4 is the latest stock ota this phone ever got. HTC (or Big Red) forgot they made our phones and that is where the support and GPL compliance went out the window. Our phones are shiny new or cost $400 and such.
As far as without a computer...... not possible sorry.. Any friends with one?
Yeah, just not sure when ill have the time to swing by a friends house. I thought I missed GB but ugh, there has actually been a lot of features added in since GB.
