Mugen Power extended batteries expected in February!!!! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

UPDATE
Mugen released it's pack for Galaxy Nexus finally! Share your experiences! I'm getting one soon, will do a short review!
Verizon Galaxy Nexus 2000mAh battery - fits OEM socket
GSM i9250 Galaxy Nexus 2000mAh battery - fits OEM socket
GSM i9250 Galaxy Nexus 4000mAh battery

After seeing the Seidio extended battery and knowing Mugen is known for making tank sized batteries, I can't imagine how big this battery would be
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk

I'm hoping they're able to make one same sized as existing extended battery but at higher capacity like 2200mAH instead.

The question to answer would be if they would include the RFID antenna in their design our not. Their pricing is always premium, and usually are the closest thing to an OEM part, so I hope their trait continues here as well.

If they make a GSM variant, I will buy and review it!

I dont think any third party brand makers will add a NFC antenna.

Realistically speaking, the antenna is really just a square spiral etched on a thin metal film, and it's only a few dollars' worth of a large production run to include. Mugen's typically $80 pricing would be more justifiable with that added. Plus, they'll have more paying customers this way.

not everything is about money, they can't just put a antenna (spiral plate to you) on the side of battery, a large company will need preperations, redesign, QC, safety, and approval from companies board or countries government safety regulation bodies for just a simply alteration.
In simple terms, it's not just adjustment, but what goes on in the background just to have this done, they have many years of manufacturing, they have all the QC and standards, and putting a antenna on a battery is easy, maybe i can even do this, but the galaxy nexus is the only phone with NFC in the battery, do you think they will go through all the trouble just for one phone, if all phones have this, then it's another story.
This is the reason why you see only OEM batteries have this.
also if you have noticed, the sgs2 in korea also have NFC and the rest of the world dont, why?.

I am very interested to see what model they offer first GSM, or VZW CDMA.
I have the OEM 2000mah extended battery for the GSM model that I got from Korea, so when Mugen does come out with theres ill take a look at it, but more than likely ill keep my extended battery because it has NFC in it as well.

Having the extended OEM GSM battery, I don't see why anyone would give up the ability to use a case and ruin the form factor of the phone with one of those behemoth batteries. With the right kernel you can get almost 6 hours screen on time and very little idle drain. I regularly hit over 5 hours with all sync on etc. Unless you are camping or somewhere with no power, I don't see a hassle plugging the phone in once a day or every other day depending on your usage. I guess its all about choice?

Who says they'll produce exclusively behemoth batteries?
If they could, say, produce a 2,500mAh battery that fit the OEM extended cover, I'd wager they'd get a lot of business...

Given there's an OEM 2100mAh battery for the i515 that supports NFC and comes in at about half the price, it's a matter of some mystery why anyone would go for that.

+1

I bought the Mugen extended battery for my HTC Desire, the one that was about double the size and power.
I am very happy with that purchase as it clearly doubled (at least) my power on my phone.

Well..I have an LTE Nexus...and I use it ALOT....the OEM extended battery will do nothing for me..I just ordered the Seidio extended 3800Mah battery and also the extended cover and holster..

Who has extended batteries and can we get pictures?

I am thinking about getting an extended battery for my Vibrant, specifically this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/3500mAh-Battery-w-Back-Cover-Samsung-Vibrant-T959-/280576737493. Now, I was wondering if I could get feedback from owners for extended batteries:
Which one did you get?
What is the quality -- how long does it last you?
Can you provide pics of how much fatter it made your phone?
Thanks!

Just posted some pictures and impressions of my new 2800mah extended battery with rubberized case.
Thanks man! 2800 doesn't seem to make the phone too fat. Were did you get a case for that?!

Oh you mean back cover. I thought you meant a case, like a TPU case.
Extended battery with Clear Protector for entire phone
Use this and your battery life more than doubles. It is very comfortable, rubberized coating, and the battery rocks. The door is quite thin considering and fits comfortably in the hand. They are also going to make custom clear protectors for the entire phone and have them up for sale within 2 weeks.

Yes. About 3.5 times the cost of a typical OEM 1500mAh battery but it's not like there is much competition at size. If they produced them on a scale closer to Samsung's own, they'd possibly be cheaper.
I've also seen the cheap non OEM batteries not even charge all the way up to their advertised capacity and then their efficiency is also worse than the OEM battery. I've also seen many Vibrants busted by using cheap batteries. They've overheated, exploded or caused component failures before exploding.
At least OEM batteries perform as expected for the most part. Anyone done any or seen any performance tests done on these Mugen batteries? I'd expect them to at least perform as advertised given the price. I might actually consider getting one of these even though it costs more than what I paid for the phone itself! LOL
If you don't buy direct, you can find the Mugen one online for less than $100.

Just an update with my Cheap Knockoff battery LOL. Its been running great with no leaks, no overheating or anything. its the 2800mah extended battery. Ive been getting 2+days with the battery. Thats with 3g on always, screen at brightest level and streaming slacker/pandora a couple hours a day. Please dont be scared to order one of the cheap batteries, they actually do work. Im just a cheapo that perfers grocery store brands vs the Big Name brands.

Can you please post some pics of your phone with new back plate on? Maybe next to a pencil or another common object for comparison?
Thank you.
I would like to see something better comparison wise than a lighter, I really want to be able to keep on 3g all day and get most of a days charge.. I have to keep off 3g, bluetooth, gps all the time to get 17+ hours out of my phone.. and heaven forbid I use google maps or something.
Don't get me wrong, my phone is awesome, I am used to having to keep things like 3g off to have enough battery, but it would be nice to be able to USE the phone without fear of it dying too early..

i'll probably order one to try it out , if it's compatible with our phone
why not just use the Mugen 2000 mAh battery?
i only trust OEM batteries when it comes to Extended
besides 2000 - 1850 = 150 mAh gain, not really worth the upgrade
however 2100 - 1850 = 250 mAh gain, that is at least a decent quater pound over the original
it should at least give you another hour with 250 mAh
but 150 wont even last you 30min
according to the mAh consumption history of my phone, it averages around 213 to 555 mAh when in use, game or web surfing
iddle is 2 mAh

About the same price, OEM it is.
OEM Sammy has higher capacity, which is usually what they state. 3rd party batteries are generous with their numbers and tend to lie.

Agreed. OEM or not, it doesn't fit. I could rig a laptop battery up to my phone, that doesn't mean it's better. "but all you have to do is leave the battery door off and duct tape it to the back..." Um....no thanks. I don't care what kind of battery it is, if it doesn't fit, it's a waste of time.
Here's the extended Galaxy Nexus battery in my SGS2.
Can't tell you the battery life yet, gimme a day or two.
I'm not using the back cover, the Seidio Active takes care of it. Not a big deal since the case never comes off anyway.
peel off the label on the battery and take a Dremel to the back cover to make space. The case is thin, but a few thousands of an inch shouldnt hurt. you could possibly have the battery case down too if you're brave.
that case looks a touch heavy, how does it feel? whats the front look like?

i know our battery door is extremely flexible
i'm sure you can at least keep the better half of the batter door clicked in
while leaving only the bottom part un-hooked
and let the phone case do the rest of the job at keeping the batter in place

It seems to give about an hour more roughly. I did a little over 15hrs the other day (auto sync, BT, 4G, yadayada). I usually finish with about 14 normally.
YMMV, you may or may not see any difference.
If money is tight, don't buy it. I'm sure most people aren't going to go bonkers over that one hour.

I would maybe try this one first

i don't trust oversized. Also the Gnex requires that the battery has a NFC chip on it to be able to use the Gnex's NFC function
what's the capacity on the standard battery packs? That 2.3ah one you linked to does not look much bigger, do you also need a new back cover for that one?

Only $5.99 USD?
That's too good to be true ... most probably fake, I meant it contain less than 2300 mAH.
And it is for "Galaxy Nexus prime" ... bwahahaha ... Yeah, right!
Also, it does not look to have NFC.
I bought this one: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/110797773716#ht_4338wt_905
It has NFC and it is (slightly) higher capacity. The back cover fits perfectly, and is almost identical to the CDMA GN back cover. Makes the device just a tad less concave near the bottom. Looks and fees better in my opinion.
I've ordered one of the 3,800 ones, I'll post a review when I get it!

Been thinking about this. I hate putting on huge battery packs so the 2000mAh was appealing. but $50 for such a small bump is hard to justify for me, especially considering I have no plans to get a desk charger and swap batteries.

I was thinking the same thing, but I went for it anyway. I bought it so I wouldn't have to swap batteries. The 2000mah battery has about 15% more capacity, so if you get say 12 hours on the regular battery, you should get 13.7 hours. If you get 18 hours, you should get 20.6 hours. As well, I find my GN feels much better in my hand with the extended battery: it is slightly heavier and less concave in the back (i.e., it looks like an LTE GN).

I don't think they will. Personally, I was disappointed in their decision to use such a small extended battery. I know allot of people don't want to lose the slimness. Those people should stick to the stock battery. I wish it was close to 3000 mah.
I guess Samsung decided more people would buy the battery based on slimness than would not buy because of mah rating.

Well we got the Seidio extended battery. Not exactly Samsung but I had good experience with their batteries. My only complaint about the battery is the back cover. Not a big fan of the color. Should have made it the color of the phone
Samsung wont make a bigger one. they did same thing for the galaxy S2.
Im waiting for the mugen one. I had that on my SG S2 and it was a beast
I hope Samsung or somebody else does. The siedo is huge and kinda ugly. Personally I would like around 2500mah -3000mah depending on how huge it is. Including NFC would be a huge plus too.

All depends on your usage of the phone. It is only an extra 250 mAh, so if you are a heavy user, you may get an hour or two out, medium user a couple of hours and light user a few more!
I find it is easy to carry around a spare cheap eBay battery just in case you need it!
as long as it doesnt look like this:

Novel idea there, although it looks FUGLY!!
I'm not gonna lie. I'm tempted to get the Seidio one since I'm a really heavy user, especially during the night shift with music and such. But idk. I'm thinking about buying an extra extended battery since Verizon still has them for half off or getting the huge Seidio one. I don't use NFC so that doesn't really matter. What do you guys think?

Most people are going to tell you use the Samsung because it looks better...personally, looks don't matter to me, so if you feel you need the extra juice the seido is the best option at the moment. The thing keeping me from the seido is NFC and the price. I just went with the samsung. You can buy 2 of them for less than the price of the seido.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....sPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en#ht_2408wt_1141
I'm sceptical of ebay, however 2430mAh without changing the dimensions of the phone, they have great feedback. Will this give me an extra 38% or so of battery life? Or is it probably just a sham...
looks interesting, the price is skeptikal but the posting of it seems legit.. at least in my own opinion, don't really know until someone orders it and runs a battery test
and just a FYI, the genuine 2000 mAh extended battery makes the phone bigger but barely... and the phone feels a lot better with the extended battery.
I'd consider buying it, really wouldn't mind someone else's opinion first though. I already have the 2200 man battery, so I'm not quite sure if this would be worth changing for...

if that battery is not bigger than the gsm 2000mah extended battery(ie it doesnt need a new back cover) theres no way its 2400mah. when it comes to batteries oem is the highest quality so an after market one will need to be bigger to give more juice. you are right to be skeptical about aftermarket battery they always bs their mah ratings.

the battery in the link is for the gsm nexus.
OP, that does not look legit at all.
Many times these batteries have a label showing a higher capacity...then when you peel it off the true capacity is underneath.
I'd bet its probably fake.

Agree with you although its surprising to me to see how Motorola could fit a 3300 mAh battery on a phone with a pretty slim-profile.

They also made it non-removable as well as ging it a huge bezel and a 4.3 inch screen, all while making it wider and only slightly shorter than the GNex.
This is a scam for sure. It's tempting though. But no.
Back in the g1 days. These "gold" cells did perform a lot better. Anybody care to try?
