[Q] Dalvik Cache - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Everytime i try to wipe my Dalvik cache, it keeps telling me that it cannot find the /E: anyone know the reason for this? after it says that then it says the Dalvik cache has been wiped

What recovery is it doing this, amon-ra or clockworkmod?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

I have no idea why that happens. It was doing it to me as well on a custom rom, flashed a different rom and it's no longer doing it. So I am assuming that it had to do with the rom structure... However, I also moved my dalvik cache to my SD card, so that could have also had something to do with it. Either way, I found that dalvik cache was wiped after the second time around (when it says it's wiped) so I never really found it to be an issue, per'se.

Ok, so there might be a third variable for me then. It was doing it on CWM, and once switched to RA, it didn't do it. So that may have been it... For me, at least.

Switch to Amon Ra. People have too many problems with clockworkmod recovery.

Its looking for dalvik on ur sdcard. Like the above poster said he moved his dalvik to sd and so it found "E:" so you didnt get the "error" which isnt really an error.
Its nothing to worry about and is normal. And will say it everytime unless you move dalvik to sd.

Yea. Mine gets same error. you just get used to it...

Use dta2sd move dalvik to SD the message magically disappears ooooh aaaaahhhh lol

Do i need to wipe before flashing a diff. font?

Iam running myn's warm rls5. I want to change my fonts and iam not sure if i need to wipe cache, data and dalvik before i flash this new font. It says to "flash these just like how you flash roms" but it dont say anything about wiping.
just the dalvik and cache, piece of cake.
just a heads up, but some of them will cause bootloops and i haven't figured out how to tell yet. For instance, "fontin" worked on every sense 2.2 but bootloops aosp 2.3. make a backup
So why only the cach and dalvik and not the data. Can anybody tell me what each thing does and why you need to wipe. Thanks!

no you do not have to wipe anything. Just flash and enjoy
Iam confused now. Someone is saying to wipe and the other is saying not too. Is there a forum that explains it.

Theoretically you don't have to wipe anything when flashing a font because all it does is change a few files in the font folder. However, I always wipe cache and dalvik when flashing any mod just to be on the safe side.
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G with Tapatalk
And always backup before flashing as said before. If everything is fine after flashing then you can just delete that nandroid if you want to free up memory on your sd. But like stated, it doesn't matter what you are flashing, things may not always go right.

And never wipe data unless you're flashing a rom. Wiping data will wipe all of your apps & such. When flashing themes, kernels, mods, fonts, apps, etc only wipe cache & dalvik cache.
Ok...i understand now. Iam guna backup then wipe cache and delvik before i flash. Thanks to everyone who replied back.

You do not need to wipe anything for fonts, i never have. I flashed font only from this thread below. Flash till you find the one you like...

[Q] Evo 4g wont flash any roms

Hi, i recently flashed miui rom and it was good but i wanted to go back to synergy rom. In the process, i flashed and it said installed successfully. However, it stood on the boot screen and just froze there. SO i tried another rom and it did the same thing. Then i tried another and it still didn't go. The only rom that seems to flash and work is MIUI rom. Any explanations on how i can fix this?
Re flash a pc36img of ra 2.3, then wipe EVERYTHING except the sd card. That should work, if not I'll post what I really had to do to fix it
Sent from my red runny evo using XDA App
clean out your sd card first, and then at the rom you want to flash. wipe everything off. and then try it. if you have 2 many things in your sd card like roms. it messes with the flash of a new rom. it happened to me
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
You can try this superwipe zip just flash it before you flash the ROM its made by virus it will wipe any old files you don't need off your sd card and do all the wipes for flashing 3 times for you.
You still want to do all the wipes your self also.

[Q] Flashing Rom/ Kernel CDMA JB PACman

Hello everyone, it has been a long time since I have messed with ROMs. The last time I did install one was for my Samsung Intercept which was for some reason a whole bunch easier than for this phone.
Now on subject, I cannot seem for the life of me get a rom or kernel to actually install on this device.
Steps I have taken for PACman rom:
1. Put device into fastboot and flash jellyboot.img
2. after I do that I put the phone into recovery and wipe dalvik/ cache (I didn't wipe system is that my problem?)
3. I install the pacmanrom.zip then I reboot the phone normally
Now here is what happens, the phone boots past the HTC with red letters screen then into the PACMAN logo screen, from here it does not get anywhere after 10+ minutes.
My best guess is that I am flashing the wrong kernel and that I didn't wipe system.
Now, I am restoring the phone and going to try to replace the kernel with an ics one.
All help is appreciated
kernel is fine
wipe data
wipe cache
wipe dalvik
it should boot
if it doesn't get some thugs send them at blake's place

So, by wiping data which option under TWRP would that be? Sorry coming from CWM 2.0 its been a long time :silly:
I also was able to restore the phone with a nand and JMZ's ICS kernel. although I haven't noticed any of the new things on it that it said I was supposed to recieve. Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844049
EDIT: I have been reading around, I have seen some similar problems with the TWRP 2.2.X recovery.. I have no idea where to find the 2.3.X recovery, if someone could find that I'd love to re-flash recovery and try again and see if that did the trick.
Reason why it might be recovery: might not be flashing correctly and a new recovery might fix it.

Alright I will flash the 2.3.1 TWRP ASAP, and I will get back to this thread to see how it goes, thank you for the indepth explanation, I needed it because everyone else was being vague around the forums.
Anytime I know how it is if I can be more assistance let be know

Hmm, well this is strange.
I recieved an error referring to not being able to mount /sd-ext while doing the factory reset
something like this:
formating /system:
Done!
formatting mde_____ (I forgot )
Done!
E: Not able to mount /sd-ext
then it says failed, I just recleaned my SD card hoping that would do the trick (re-format).
When u do any wipes it will always say cannot format sdcard which is good cause if it did it would wipe just like when u back up it will say same and not back up sdcard so don't mind that as for it failing try to re download ur file and try again sometimes u have to make sure the zip signatures is off or it will fail

[Q] Imperium Initiative v1.0.0 Installation

I'm trying to install Imperium Initiative V1.0.0. I wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, factory reset, and reboot. How long should the phone take to reboot after following this process? I've waited 10 to 15 minutes and the phone doesn't boot.

No, I'm not bricked. I can still boot into recovery (CWM) and reinstall my old rom. I'm just finding out should it take this long to install or am I just being impatient.
Well from reading the steps that you took not once did you mention you actually flash the ROM

In recovery:
Factory reset
Wipe System
Install
Reboot
Wipe/format system is not the same as a factory reset.
Everyone keeps wiping everything except for the most important one. SYSTEM. make sure you wipe system BEFORE you flash and then you wipe the cache after you flash.

I'm new to this. Will wiping the system delete all of my music from my Internal SD Card? I don't see an option to wipe the system in CWM. What app can I use to complete this task?
