Return Inc2 to Stock - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

So Verizon agreed to send me a replacement Incredible 2 because of my power button, which seems to be stuck down. I think I need to return this one to stock before I can send it back in. I am s-off running a CM7.2 Kang posted on rootz with the 4EXT touch recovery. I originally rooted my phone with alpharevx. I have a MacBook Air and do not have access to Windows to use adb. How would I go about returning to stock?

[Q] G2 Warranty ?

okay so heres the thing......i have a rooted g2 with s-off on ultimate droid rom. but just today the power buttom stopped working and there no way to turn off the screen or anything that uses it. and when i take out the battery to turn it ff you can't turn it back on until its plugged into a charger to where it then goes to clockwork recovery mode. im sending it into warranty and there sending me a new phone. is there any way they can find out if its rooted or would they send my phone back? any thoughts?
My originally G2 was unlocked and rooted with custom roms. One day the screen was sort of crapping out on me. I took the chance and sent it to HTC, and they just sent back new or refurbished model.... all I know for sure it was not my original G2.
Unless you think you can fix it yourself, you might as well send it back to HTC to see if they'll fix it, worst case scenario, they'll return it back to you...

you think they have actually taken the time to take EVERY single refurb and update them instead of just NOT doing it and having the phone force the update upon activation?

That's the point of a refurb though, to be brand new so to speak. so it will 9/10 be updated software.
I got my fascinate to inc2 switch with a refurbished on wed last week and it came with 2.2. Just a fyi.

It is a mixed bag with refurbished versions. I currently have a little screen separation going on but I am dealing with it because I don't want to lose root or get stuck in Verizon refurbish hell.

I have to say my refurbs have been fine. for both inc1 and inc2
If I get a new one from insurance would that still be 2.2 or will it be updated?

no one can say for sure.
Mines left yesterday, should be getting it Thursday or Friday, so i hope it still have 2.2. I too think it's a roll of the dice, because they would literally have to replace ALL the phones, it would be better to just let the user update it, but we will see.
This was an issue back when I had the Eris, and I needed a refurb, and the same thing, I tried asking before they sent it out and they said that it's most likely going to be sent with the updated software, if it a refurb..
I have to ask. I see so many people on here saying they got the DInc 2 from a Fascinate (Same thing I'm doing now) so I'm sure you are all familiar with the Fascinate. How come there isnt anything like the stock ODIN files that can be used on a Fascinate?
Because Samsung and HTC have totally different ways of debugging/developing and use different tools. The Eris is the same way, with S-OFF and all that jazz with the bootloader. IMO the Odin App made recovering from meltdowns and updating things like the radio VERY easy which was nice. But for some reason this simplicity also led to MORE bricks as all it took for a while to brick your phone was to hit the dreaded phone button instead of the "PDA" button in Odin...

I already miss Odin. It was so ridiculously easy to do anything with it. You didn't even need to root to flash a custom rom. Just Odin CWM, boot directly into it, and flash the rom. And very easy to go back to stock and not leave a trace of root. Unlike the current inability to go back to S-On...

100% agree. Someone needs to dev a way to do that for this phone.

Phone wont charge

It says
Your phone is using more current than the charger can supply.
It happened out of nowhere too. Its weird. Any suggestions. I've tried reverting back to old Rome I had backed up. No luck. I've also tried a 3rd party extended battery. No luck there either. I originally rooted with the revolutionary root tool. How can I unroot and go to stock in case I need to have Verizon look at it ?

That could possibly be it. It seems the charging port was built poorly

I just held down the USB cord down with my hand and was able to charge the phone without the message popping up. Now I just need help unrooting. It seems there are two ways of unrooting depending on the way u originally rooted. I rooted with the revolutionary tool and can't find out how to unroot. I could only find instructions on how to unroot if u rooted using alpha revx

it is the same way, you just need to flash the stock hboot and thats it.
also seems like the usb ports on these phones are constantly goning out it's happened twice to me on brand new dinc 2's
So I got back to the stock 2.2.1 Rom with s off by following the alpha revx unroot procedure. I want able to change my hboot though. Tomorrow I'm gonna see if I can get a replacement. Wish me luck lol

you can change hboot by flashing cwm and root files to the phone then using adb over wifi and use the unroot guide then update to gb, i did it 2 days ago

Mini USB port broken

I have had my evo for about 6 months. About a month ago I noticed none of my computers were able to recognize my phone any longer. I decided to just use FTP for transferring files. the other day however, my wall charger stopped working. I now have to wiggle it around until its in just the right spot to charge. My phone is rooted with custom rom etc. What should I do about this? Take it to sprint or mail it to HTC?
This is not damage from anything I have done, so I really don't want to pay $100

Either place you'll get a refurb.
Good thing about htc is that youll get your housing back, just a new board. You can either throw a stockish rom on there or unroot it. Its a matter of opinion on which should be done.

Thanks for the reply
Will both charge me 100$ most likely? A friend told me HTC might not charge me.
I can just flash a stock rom without having to unroot? I also have a custom bootsplash.

I just did mine with HTC for free because I didn't think i would get a refurb. sprint will also be free if you have tep.
I would advise fully unrooting for HTC.

Same problem, seems to happen to quite a few people. I don't feel like wasting my time sending it in, and just use a wall battery charger, along with 2 Anker 1700 batteries, so I always have one charged at all times, its easy to switch the new when when needed. I like it much better than having to have the phone connected to a charger, I never worry about that now. Two Anker 1700, and two stock OEM batteries, and Ankers seem to get quite a few more hours of life, amazing boost for such a cheap price for two batteries and a external battery wall charger.
What would be the easiest way to unroot in your opinion? I don't remember the method I used to get root.
That's a great idea about the batteries and external charger. I will definitely keep that as an option. Thanks.

Your unroot method depends on the method you used to root. If you go to the bootloader and it says revolutionary at the top and you have hboot 6.16 then you s-offed with revolutionary. If you have s-off with hboot 2.16 or lower you used unrevoked

It looks like I used unrevoked as my hboot is lower than 2.16. Should I follow this guide? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1151733
Or is their a more up to date method?
I had the same issue. I went with the spare battery and wall charger route myself. seemed easier than unrooting and using insurance. being this way for 6 months now, and its really not an inconvenience. just gotta change the battery once a day.

Yeah just download and flash the s on tool zip in recovery and download the PC36IMG.zip to the root of your sd card and then boot into the bootloader and let it update that PC36IMG.zip
Reboot and then power off and back on while holding volume down and check to make sure your s on. That should be it.

I recommend using TWRP for anyone that uses this phone just so you don't have to worry about darkside wipes. Before I bricked I was using CWM recovery and the darkside stuff was just getting complicated. When my devices was out I did a lot of research on it rooting, recovery, and ROMS. When you get the phone back you can get use Superoneclick to root which I recommend because its safer than odin and I am using Liquidsmooth for my ROM.
no its wierd
