[Question] About franco.Kernel Flashing - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have been using franco.Kernels and currently in settings and about phone it list my kernel version as 13.1 but I have flashed 14 then 14.1 then 14.2 and now 14.3
but in about phone its still not updating the kernel version label? still says #13.1
What I do to flash the kernel is Reboot the phone in CWM 5.5.0.4,
I then clear cache/ and dalvik* cache and then go to install zip from SDcard, I select the new kernel zip that I uploaded to my phone and select Yes to flash, it does its script and says successful. I then go back and reboot phone and it boots up fine but then still the problem with it not updating in phone information.
Im using Bugless Beast Rom.
My question is am I doing this wrong or is he not updating the label on each new release. Im not sure if its taking the new kernel or not?

Flash kernel
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Reboot

Did that and still says Kernel Version: 3.0.16-franco.Kernel-nightly-13.1 [email protected] #8

Sounds like you've not downloaded the latest one in that case as mine shows #14.3

I open my phone up on my computer and delete old one and cut and paste?? I will try and put it in another folder and try again.

Uhg,
Open phone on computer, Delete old kernel, Made new folder called kernels, Downloaded newest kernel from http://androtransfer.com/franciscofr...alaxy Nexus/ copied it to kernels folder. reboot into recovery, installed the zip, cleared cache, cleared dalvik, reboot back into phone, checked phone info.. still the same :'(

My version of Bugless Beast is build date jan 18th

Ok so I flashed a new version of the Bugless Beast rom today and the new #15 kernel from fransco
Flashed BBrom.zip then flashed the new kernel.zip then wiped cache and wiped dalvik. Booted up with the new kernel fine. and phone information actually shows the new #15 kernel installed.
Now I just did a flash of the #15.1 kernel and did not update the phone information again ...
I did flash new 15.1Kernel.zip then wipe cache and then wipe dalvik, boot back into phone and phone information does not show 15.1 still shows #15.
I got to be doing something wrong?

most likely bugless beast is not compatible with franco's kernel? try different ROM. if other ROMS work, its a bugless beast issue.

If I flash to bugless and then apply the kernel it works its when I'm only flashing the kernel when it doesn't update to new kernel

Franco's kernels run perfectly fine with Bugless Beast. I'm running BB and Franco's 15.1 kernel with no compatibility or flashing issues. See my screenshot.

Are you flashing the same way I am above?

Just an update the issue was that the cache on My browser or computer was just giving me the same version every time I would download the new version. I downloaded with my phone instead of the computer and flashed it and it worked ....

hi guys, thanks for your suggestions.. Now, I just successfully installed AOKP. However, my big problem is that my camera didn't save images/videos.. I am now on the panic mode.

3.0.8-gaaa2611. that's my kernel version. I haven't install Kernel updates here. What do you mean by stock camera? <pardon for the noob question> My phone is already rooted/unlocked.
What were your instructions for rooting? (Assuming you weren't rooted before you posted this)
Your root method may have wiped everything

No, i'm using gallimaufry. I'm surprised too, I didn't expect such a high score
Check my sig to make sure you're installing the roms correctly.
Post two will detail it.
A "stock" camera is the camera that comes pre-installed. Not one from the play store.
I'm on AOKP, and can confirm no such issue.
I think my camera started malfunctioning <didn't save images/videos> when I wipe data due to I forgot my screen lock pattern <yes, I forgot! WTH>. Then, I flash AOKP b29 to see if it will solved my dilemma but it didn't. Last resort was, flash original stock ROM from Google website. Now, I am back to stock ROM.
@Jubakuba: I follow your procedure before, but when I tried to re-install Titanium Backup <free> to restore apps, it didn't succeed and prompts error which is something like code:32.

[Q] How to install kernel on galaxy S3 sprint

Can someone explain how to install custom kernel want to instal Ktoonz Kernel running free gs3 rom V 2.O can it be installed via Aroma installer.
Don't know. But you have not searched at all .....
You can install it by downliading the zip file then going into recovery and flashing it. Then wipe cache dalvik and fix permissions then reboot and you are done .

I have searched and unable to find any definitive tutorials for ktoonz or GS3. I have tried to flash kernel end up with continual bootloop.
1st root
2nd kernel
3rd rom
Kernel can not be installed after rom has been installed.
Tutorials are showing tar files I have a CWM zip file, I'm assuming kernel before rom.
Step 1: Boot Into Recovery
Step 2: Make a Backup
Step 3: Flash This http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1319515&d=1347395869
Step 4: Flash the Kernel. I recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1800576
(Note: Make sure you get the one for TouchWiz if you are running a stock based ROM or AOSP if you are running an AOSP ROM.)
Step 4: Wipe Cache and Dalvik
Step 5:Reboot
Step 6: Be Happy

If I flash a kernel it's usually after the Rom.
Think about it your going to flash a custom kernel, then flash a Rom (most come with a preinstalled kernel). That'll over write your custom kernel.
Like its been said make sure your doing tw to tw and aosp to aosp.

You have things a bit mixed up. If you are doing a ROM and Kernel the ROM should go first.
From your Custom Recovery (rooted phone with Clockwork Mod recovery or TWRP)
Flash the ROM
Then the Kernel
Make sure to always clear both Dalvik-Cache and Cache after a ROM or Kernel flash
Then restart
When clearing the Dalvik-Cache and Cache your phone will take extra time on the first boot, and on my Sprint TW SGS3 4.1.1 Stock+Root it says "optimizing Apps" on the first reboot after having the Caches cleared.
Big thing you had mixed up was flashing the ROM after the kernel.. That will just overwrite the Kernel you wanted to do *Grin*..
As others mentioned, make sure you Keep TW (TouchWiz) with TW, and AOSP (AOKP) with AOSP (CM10/10.1) for the ROM and Kernel's to match or you will have issues (boot loops, random crashes, and other mixed results).
I'm using ktoonz kernel right now, was using AGAT kernel prior, both have been very nice.
Happy Flashing
Frre GS3 is TW JB rom. I was asking when to flash beacause I did flash after rom. Do I have to flash immediately after ROM is installed??? Trying it now will report back results thanks to all for thei input

No, you don't have to install the custom kernel right after flashing the ROM, you _could_ flash FreeGS3 v2 (for example), and run it for a while and then reboot into recovery whenever you feel like trying a different kernel and flash say AGAT kernel, wipe the Dalvik-Cache and Cache, then restart to give the new kernel a try.
Fun times!
Finally it worked dont know what I was doing wrong??? But thanks to all
Note: The rom cleaner on this thread works on the verizon GS3 with the model number SCH-I535

[Q] NS4G Modem Help for Dummies Needed!!

Ok, I have spent countless hours (as a non-techie) trying to get the most updated or close to updated ROM. I just can not get the modem to work after updating. Here is what I did...
* Started on CM 10.1... Android version 4.2.1 with latest gapps and NS4Gmodempatch_CM10.1_AIO(nitest0215) and all is well.
* Did system wipe... cache wipe... dalvic wipe
* Flashed cm-10.1-20130304-EXPERIMENTAL-epicmtd-M2... added gapps-jb-20130301-signed
* Reboot to Recovery... wipe cache... wipe dalvic...
* Flashed ns4g-radio-LF2... reboot to recovery... flashed ns4g-radio-LF2 again... flashed nitest-jb42_nr-twrp-0315... reboot system
NO SERVICE
* Flashed JB_BigMem_26-aug-12... reboot system
NO SERVICE
* Flashed NS4Gmodempatch_CM10.1_AIO(nitest0215) again... reboot system
I HAVE SERVICE... but...
ROM is magically reverted to... cm-10.1-20130215-EXPERIMENTAL-epicmtd,,, kernal 3.0.64-B42nitest-nr... version 4.2.2... baseband D700SPRLF2... BUILD NUMBER: cm_epicmtd-Dropple 4.2.2 JDQ39 eng.bbelos test-keys
SO WHAT AM I DOING WRONG HERE??
Nothing wrong. The NS4G patch contains build.prop info that is not up to date. That is why it all changed in your about phone screen. If it bothers you, you can edit build.prop with the proper info, but it is not necessary.

frost right
If I changed it other name like "jelly bean", you'll get invalid int every reboot and its annoying
You just change the experimental and date in build.prop on /system

Thanks. I tried that. I tried uninstalling Maps, clearing data, reinstalling trick. Flashed the Mitch01154 Optimal gpsconf.zip. Turned gps off and on. None works, cant even get to lock 1 satellite EVER. This JellyBean is starting to be more of a hassle than a luxury
Okay do a clean fresh wipe/install and what I did from fc09 is I flashed LF2 radio then a ns4g rdy rom then gapps and LF2 stuck then if I wanted to go with a epic modem rom id do a clean fresh wipe/install then epic modem rom then gapps then effsi ns4gswap.zip then LF2 radio then didhiys newest ns4g kernel with big mem patch and u should be good 2go

Same here. I've tried 3 different JB ROMs and can't get my GPS to work reliably on any of them. Sometimes it connects, but usually I get nothing. Frustrating.
Just installed GPS Test. Found 11 satellites and locked to all of them in about 5 secs while indoors. Idk guys. Just for the record I'm running effsi's pacman rom v20.1 with didhiy's nitest kernel with ns4g modem.
Edit: Ran it again in the same spot as before. Screenshots below...

New user E4GT , need some help.

Hey guys, I just broke my galaxy nexus (fell in the pool) and a buddy gave me his old E4GT to use.
I did my research around this forum and found a ton of different things.
What I've done so far:
Wiped the phone and rooted using odin for FL24 which is the stock ICS build on the phone.
What I want to do:
Flash CWM recovery
Flash a Stable rom
I've been reading about a few unstable kernel issues around the forum and I'm a bit confused.
I would really appreciate the help with this Thanks
You should know that in order to flash a ROM, you need to flash a safe gb kernel, EL29 directboot or EL26 CWM,do you know about the emmc bug?
Since I dont see a specific question, check this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953783

There are a ton of really stable builds in android development, and most have cwm built in. Jellyverse is a kick a** ROM, but doesn't have cwm, but it's easy enough to flash that after you load the ROM. Good luck.

ROM
Well if you're looking for a stable ICS ROM, I can definately recommend the Blue Kuban FL24/FI27 ROM. All you need to do is boot into a safe kernel (http://e4gtcm.blogspot.com/p/tools.html), then boot into it (MAKE SURE YOU ARE ROOTED AND HAVE FILES ON YOUR PHONE, FAILURE TO DO SO WILL PUT YOU IN BOOTLOOP), then wipe data/factory reset, and then flash the rom (if you want the Blu Kuban ROM, here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625535). And you should be :good: to go.

*Note* After you flash the rom using the EL29 Directboot (which is needed to be flashed either through Desktop Odin or Mobile Odin), the ROM will automatically install a safe recovery after the ROM flash.
Thanks for the link to the newbie thread (missed it) also thanks for clarifying on the EL29! Right now I'm installing JellyVerse

No recovery on aokp rom

I'm using the aokp mildstone 5 rom and it doesn't have a custom recovery. I tried flashing stock cmw5,ff18,stock rogue,el26,stock twrp. Every one that I flashed on it doesn't work when I go to reboot sys it won't reboot the rom or it will do the android is updating apps but when it finishes it just freezes. Also it won't run google play services or play store they both force close had to download the apps that I needed manually from dev-host.I like this rom and want to back it up but no recovery works and it sucks not being able to use play store
Wow that's an old version of AOKP. I would flash EL29 directboot kernel via Odin. Then flash this more recent version of AOKP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45539481&postcount=223

Bump
You're flashing TouchWiz recoveries, that's why it won't work. Flash an ICS AOSP kernel.

The only ics aokp recovery I see over there is times infinity.I tried chris41,calkulin, rogue,agat63..these wouldn'twork and I used my PC

I saw a couple on @rwilco's site that said AOKP in the title (I would try those first), however I never used any ICS AOSP ROMs on this device as it had 4.2.2 when I moved over.
Try to flash Chris41g CWM6 recovery. (I'd post a link but, I don't have over 10 posts.) Should be located in @rwilco's site under CM9 kernels. It probably won't boot but you will have a recovery that should be able to flash any AOSP JB ROM.

Yes. Jb roms just boot loop as usual. And my aokp milestone 5 wouldn't reboot.
