I'm using the aokp mildstone 5 rom and it doesn't have a custom recovery. I tried flashing stock cmw5,ff18,stock rogue,el26,stock twrp. Every one that I flashed on it doesn't work when I go to reboot sys it won't reboot the rom or it will do the android is updating apps but when it finishes it just freezes. Also it won't run google play services or play store they both force close had to download the apps that I needed manually from dev-host.I like this rom and want to back it up but no recovery works and it sucks not being able to use play store
Wow that's an old version of AOKP. I would flash EL29 directboot kernel via Odin. Then flash this more recent version of AOKP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45539481&postcount=223

Yeah I know I'm the one that has the phone that won't flash jelly bean roms all of a sudden..I made a thread about it. Anyways I can only use ics or gb roms. Is that a ics or gb rom.
Bump
You're flashing TouchWiz recoveries, that's why it won't work. Flash an ICS AOSP kernel.

OK so I looked over at rwilco12. Which one should I use, aokp fe22 one click or tar. Aosp ff02 tar, times infinity twrp repack..there's a few different ones. Can I use mobile Odin or should I use my PC.
The only ics aokp recovery I see over there is times infinity.I tried chris41,calkulin, rogue,agat63..these wouldn'twork and I used my PC
I use the recovery kernels right ?

I saw a couple on @rwilco's site that said AOKP in the title (I would try those first), however I never used any ICS AOSP ROMs on this device as it had 4.2.2 when I moved over.
Try to flash Chris41g CWM6 recovery. (I'd post a link but, I don't have over 10 posts.) Should be located in @rwilco's site under CM9 kernels. It probably won't boot but you will have a recovery that should be able to flash any AOSP JB ROM.

My phone won't flash any jb roms just ics or gb
You did flash chris41g's recovery right?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Yes. Jb roms just boot loop as usual. And my aokp milestone 5 wouldn't reboot.
Had to get rid of the aokp rom the system app for making and receiving phone calls started to force close and I had no signal at all. I'm now using an aosp ics rom that has a team win recovery on it but still can'tget play srore to work

Just a few questions..
1. What ROM can you recommend to install? Currently on Galaxy Nexus GSM 4.0.2
ICL53F.I9250XWLK2
2. Same thing as ROM..
3. What are the other things that I need to customize my Nexus?
TIA
I use 4.0.4 stock rom with popcorn kernel, here are my benchmark with this combination

3.0.8-gaaa2611. that's my kernel version. I haven't install Kernel updates here. What do you mean by stock camera? <pardon for the noob question> My phone is already rooted/unlocked.
What were your instructions for rooting? (Assuming you weren't rooted before you posted this)
Your root method may have wiped everything

No, i'm using gallimaufry. I'm surprised too, I didn't expect such a high score
Check my sig to make sure you're installing the roms correctly.
Post two will detail it.
A "stock" camera is the camera that comes pre-installed. Not one from the play store.
I'm on AOKP, and can confirm no such issue.
I think my camera started malfunctioning <didn't save images/videos> when I wipe data due to I forgot my screen lock pattern <yes, I forgot! WTH>. Then, I flash AOKP b29 to see if it will solved my dilemma but it didn't. Last resort was, flash original stock ROM from Google website. Now, I am back to stock ROM.
@Jubakuba: I follow your procedure before, but when I tried to re-install Titanium Backup <free> to restore apps, it didn't succeed and prompts error which is something like code:32.
After many tries I was Finally able to get Milestone 5 installed on my E4GT. Method that I installed:
Rooted using the ODIN EL29 One Click method
After reboot flashed EL26 with CWM
Booted into CWM 5.0.2.7
Installed AOKP Milestone 5 w/tablet UI and SplitSMS
Installed Gapps
After rebooting CWM is not installed just the standard samsung recovery screen.
What do i need to do to to get CWM flashed and to stay so i can make a backup?

No. But make sure it is a AOSP kernel or you won't be able to boot.

Thanks is there any reason to run a different modem?
Not really unless you have bad connection. I really haven't noticed much of a difference between modems except connection is more consistent.

Hey guys, I just broke my galaxy nexus (fell in the pool) and a buddy gave me his old E4GT to use.
I did my research around this forum and found a ton of different things.
What I've done so far:
Wiped the phone and rooted using odin for FL24 which is the stock ICS build on the phone.
What I want to do:
Flash CWM recovery
Flash a Stable rom
I've been reading about a few unstable kernel issues around the forum and I'm a bit confused.
I would really appreciate the help with this Thanks
You should know that in order to flash a ROM, you need to flash a safe gb kernel, EL29 directboot or EL26 CWM,do you know about the emmc bug?
Since I dont see a specific question, check this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953783

There are a ton of really stable builds in android development, and most have cwm built in. Jellyverse is a kick a** ROM, but doesn't have cwm, but it's easy enough to flash that after you load the ROM. Good luck.

ROM
Well if you're looking for a stable ICS ROM, I can definately recommend the Blue Kuban FL24/FI27 ROM. All you need to do is boot into a safe kernel (http://e4gtcm.blogspot.com/p/tools.html), then boot into it (MAKE SURE YOU ARE ROOTED AND HAVE FILES ON YOUR PHONE, FAILURE TO DO SO WILL PUT YOU IN BOOTLOOP), then wipe data/factory reset, and then flash the rom (if you want the Blu Kuban ROM, here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625535). And you should be :good: to go.

*Note* After you flash the rom using the EL29 Directboot (which is needed to be flashed either through Desktop Odin or Mobile Odin), the ROM will automatically install a safe recovery after the ROM flash.
Thanks for the link to the newbie thread (missed it) also thanks for clarifying on the EL29! Right now I'm installing JellyVerse

As the tile says, I need some help, possibly a walkthrough tutorial, on how to get from rooted stock FJ12 to Dirty Unicorns 4.2 ROM on my SPH-D710VMUB (Virgin Mobile). I had it running fine at one point and then things got screwed up after I updated to 4.3 and tried making to modifications to fix some issues I was having, so I had to revert back to rooted stock. And now, for the life of me I cannot remember how I got there. Any new ROM I attempt to install via recovery throws an error (error 7 if I recall correctly) and will not install.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you mean DU 4.3..
Make sure first you're on an ICS modem...if not. Flash it in recovery on the tw ROM you're on now so you can update prl/profile..If you need a cwm recovery for the stock ROM you're on..Look in rwilco12 repo for a custom kernel with cwm for you're build..
This is how I flashed it..
Boot to cwm on current ROM...
Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache and format system
Flash DU 4.3...wait
When it's done...Don't Reboot..Go to advanced and pick reboot recovery
When new recovery comes up....do the wipes again
Now flash DU 4.3 again
Reboot when its done..
Let it settle for a few ...
Boot to cwm
Flash gapps...reboot..
Enjoy...:good:
Thanks. I'll give it a try when I have time in the near future.
The issue that I'm having is that recovery won't flash anything and just gives me an error every time. Is there a way to upgrade the recovery without switching modems?
Mobile Odin, PC Odin... You probably have the stock kernel, which won't flash anything.

Mobile Odin is an app that allows you to flash kernels in tar format... Find it here on XDA.
Thank you for your help. If I continue to have problems I will continue the conversation later, but for now I'm going to try a touchwiz based ROM since battery life on stock seems so much better.
I'm following these exact steps and I can't get 3G nor 4G to work.
I used ODIN to get ICS stock rooted, then installed the CWM Kernel, and installed DU 4.3.
Any help here.. I've been going crazy for months trying to get this to work.
Thank you.

I've tried different scenarios of installing a different Virgin Mobile modems after doing a full wipe/cash/etc. I've also tried doing a stock install of JB (after trying a stock VM ICS) before i wiped and installed DU 4.3. I read somewhere that 3G and 4G for Virgin doesn't work on the new DU 4.3.
Dear Members,
First of all I would like to say that I am a fan of all you developers out there .. you guys Rock !
So here is the thing, I am facing a huge problem with my Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-i747 in trying every damn custom rom out there.
I successfully ROOT & Installed Custom Recovery on it
then i tried installing Cyanogenmod rom on it. (it didn't worked) got Status 7 error
I installed another custom rom ( same error )
I tried to find solution for Status 7 Error and found many resources on XDA so I applied that to remove status 7 error ... well nothing work still it didn't installed rom gave error of some media+lost or something (don't remember)
then I tried AOKP rom and it worked ... it got installed and things were fine but the Camera app was not working it was just a total pain.
I downloaded Cyanogenmod for SGH-I747 again thought I have installed this custom AOKP rom now it should work .. but damn same thing same error no issue resolved.
So I downloaded the SGH-I747 Stock ROM and Installed it and it worked like a charm again... but hated that touchwiz crap so after few days amazing developers at XDA / Cyanogenmod cameup with Cyanogenmod Installer (One in all installer app for custom cyanogenmod)
So happily I plugged in my SGH-i747 after installing the Cyanogenmod Installer on Android and PC
the phone got detected
Cyanogenmod Installer (PC) started downloading recovery / rom everything for it. Once it was all downloaded it asked me that its going to flash the phone I said fine proceed ... so suddenly I saw Cyanogenmod Logo on phone I was super excited that now its gonna work .. but then suddenly I got this error

This symbol disappeared on the screen and then the this came up
After that it said that it has finished installing cyanogenmod but when I started the phone it was the same stock rom which I installed before and cyanogenmod did nothing to it .
AOKP works and nothing else does as in a custom ROM ...
I am so fed up with this now ... It would be great if someone could just help me out here ... I am just dying over here ...
Best Regards,
Adnan
Since I'm assuming by custom roms you mostly mean cm based aosp roms, have you update your bootloader yet? If not here's how:
