Reports are Lumia 900 will only be $100 with AT&T!
Thats aggressive, and impressive. Release date March 18. No $100 phone can beat that, regardless of what OS.

Just checked out att's listing, the iphone4 is listed for $99, and 3gs for 99cents , that's stiff competition... m$ could subsidize the wp7 heavily to say around $19 , then you're talking... we'll see

The iphone 4 will be nearly 2 years old when the 900 launches at AT&T. I think the 900's price of $99 on contract is extremely competitive and a great strategy. I can't see how it would make any sense to subsidize it down to $19, especially when 2012 should have a lot of lower end WP7.5 phones coming in to fill that space.
It will have LTE which is now the big selling point for US carriers. Definitely will be the lowest priced but highest profile LTE device they have launched.

I figured if $99 was competitive, $19 would qualify as "no brainer". The age of the iphone 3gs/4/whatever doesn't seem to be an issue with sales, ever. Wp needs an edge, every edge.
An even better strategy would be to have released the 900 last fall for $49, and have HD displays being released this month.

I think I have even a better idea. May be release 900 in 2000 and then $9.99 HD displays in 2005?
$100 for LTE, and 4.3" that's a deal.
I mean until the iphone 6 is released and the iphone 4 will be offered for free.
This may be a great strategy if the other OEMs jump on board. If not I see Nokia being the only Windows Phone OEM.

I like this vetvito! And to think I thought you never said anything positive about WP7. I humbly apologize and ask for your forgiveness
It is a great idea. Something inside me is angry though that some companies have healthy margins (Apple) while others have to pull stunts to get sales (all non-iOS tablets, Lumia 900).
Oh well. But good way to get your foot in the door Nokia.
^ the phones will still be paid for, either by AT&T or a crazy contract. Nokia is probably breaking even.
Don't know, but this should have been Microsoft's plan from the beginning. They can afford it.
......btw, I've been saying the same thing since day one. I want whats best for us users and not to be screwed over.

The war has begun. In marketing point of view, this would be a disaster for the companies. Good for consumers but bad for their competitors and themselves. Once this is started, the market would be a chaos soon.

Hi all,
I keep looking at UK mobile operator websites and they have sections that say Upgrade to the IPhone 4s and so on which leads me to believe they are under contract to heavily push the IPhone above all else as if its better.
I also then noticed on the Vodafone site that the Lumia is on coming soon.
I believe that the Nexus is being held back till after both these launches and I believe that this is due to the operators being pushed by Apple and Microsoft. It seems sad that that Google either feels it doesn't need to do anything about this or is so complacent to think that marketing won't beat technical superiority. Betamax vs VHS proves this not to be true.
Anybody else noticed this or am I a conspiracy theorist of one
Cheers

Making a ton of cash off the iPhone isn't a conspiracy--it's business.

Maybe conspiracy is strong
But it seems to me that ICS seems to be put to the back of the queue.
There are more android phones than Iphone sales so I am not sure its business in that sense.
I would suggest they are being lent on in a way that google isnt doing.
You are prob right its business at the root of the cause but is it me or has anyone else experienced it.
The conspiracy theory makes sense but it could be any other reason. I think there is definitely something delaying things. Maybe last minute tweaks by Google.
In the UK it is coming out on O2. I'm not sure if O2 will put their crap on it or if they'll give us the stock Android.
I think it is a few last-minute tweaks. Like the launch of the Nexus S last year, there are always some tweaks and logistics to work out prior to launch. Also remember that the engineers seemed rather annoyed with the face unlock's refusal to cooperate during the announcement presentation, among other little things. These might be those teaks we are waiting on...
it's not just iphone 4s. it's also the droid bionic, razr, and for at&t, sgs2. they just released these well-equipped phones, but won't get a chance to sell them once the galaxy nexus comes out.
it's nothing more than carriers pushing sales for products they already have on the shelves today.
The other thing that might be note worthy is just like most apple fanboys, in or out of contract they'll buy it... Close to a big phone release tmobile always offers some of their best smart phones for better discounts to new customers/upgrades I think. In my opinion this is so they can get the people at launch of the much better phone to pay full price /shrugs that's what I've noticed at least.

Precisely why Verizon hasn't said much about the Galaxy Nexus in the US. They want to get as many iPhone sales as possible right now, there's nothing that can compare at the moment. I will most likely be leave VZW for an unlocked GSM version anyway.

Who do you think benefits from customers paying full price for their phones? The providers, like T-mobile and VZW? I always thought that all they cared about was getting you to sign a new 2yr contract... because I don't think they get a cut of an unsubsidized phone sale. I could be wrong though...
they just want people to buy the locked down crap so they come back later and pay full price for a nexus

I'm sure they get percent either way but if they've screwed you into contract with a lesser phone and can have you coming back for another phone in a month off contract they're doing pretty well for themselves. Especially with the people that sell their phones back to the dealer for half street value... Ouch

If they don't get a cut of an unsubsidized phone sale, then that means they don't get to pay less for a subsidized phone sale either, so either way the carrier is paying out of pocket for a phone subsidy.
Think about it this way, the phone manufacturer doesn't care whether you buy the phone from your carrier subsidized or unsubsidized, that means the manufacturer will charge the carrier the same price either way. So the difference between what the carrier makes from a subsidized phone sale and a unsubsidized phone sale is exactly the difference between the prices it charges you, regardless of how much of a cut they get from the phone sale.
This is, of course, ignoring more complicated revenue sharing and carrier branding schemes that might exist between a carrier and a manufacturer.
Shops and operators can be bought with money.
If you own a shop, and Microsoft/Nokia comes around to offer you the largest cash in return to putting Lumia at the shop front, and placing GNex waaaaay at the back next to the dust bin, course you'd take the money.

I partally agree but would google/samsung allow it and if so then they are properly cheap.
Also has this business thing happened or is it due to real world problems.
It looks fishy that the biggest android thing for a while seems to be getting buried and a spit
*Lumia* wash mouth out is on 'coming soon' on Vodafone but no GalaxyNexus.
Also would the operator potentially alienate their customers ? Are Android customers just wimps???
The reason for GN pushback is cause Sammy introducing Galaxy Note first (logistics reasons)
Or....they are releasing other phones with older android versions first to give them a small chance to sell before becoming near instantly obsoleted and sell tragically low amounts. That doesn't sound too unreasonable.
Steve Jobs, may he rest in peace, swore to destroy Android wich he hated more than anything, and adding to that the fact GN is a samsung, i'd not be suprised if Apple is paying alot of money to keep the media hype down. Just my little conspirecy theory

Could $500 be the official price for this phone? I sure hope so!!!

That's hardly surprising since that's what the previous ones have cost ($529) and is what I've said all the time. It's what you end up with if you do a proper conversion based on prices in the EU and then remove fees that do not apply or are lower in the US as well as adjust the prices to be roughly the same as before the dollar dropped majorly in value a few years ago like many manufactorers seem to do.
Summary: Yes, I'd say it's very likely to be slightly above $500.
I wonder why it says only "seven entries will receive a Galaxy Nexus" instead of 10.
So its $500 and will be at peoples homes on 12/5/2011? Check rule #21 I think.
lol emphasis on the word APPROXIMATE.
529 for the last 2..Id expect 529 or 569
But that sucka aint comin to the U.S and Tmo anytime soon. (Googles weeks dont = soon to me)
Still a good price to go on. Cant wait!
actually its only 500 to avoid tax implications for prizes if i'm not mistaken....

Same. Everyone who has been saying that it will be $650 is just off their rocker. I expect it to be $529 as well just like the other models were.
Agreed. A lot of people disagreed with me on the $530 unlocked. At that price, it's a well-speced phone.
That does sound like a very attractive price. I am currently due for an upgrade at AT&T, but I'm not completely sure that the Nexus will come to AT&T considering it just released the GSII and GSII Skyrocket. I was thinking about buying an iPhone 4S with my upgrade and selling it to buy the Nexus off contract.
Where would be the best place to list the iPhone to sell? Could anyone help me?
You might just be better off to just wait for the nexus to come to at&t so you don't waste money.. But if you go through with your other plan, I would say ebay gives you the best price..
Sent from my Samsung galaxy tab 10.1
$500 is probably the price of the phone before reseller markup. The markup could be anywhere from $30 - $100 depending on what the reseller thinks they can get away with and what everyone else is selling it for, so it's very feasible that you could walk into a Best Buy and get one for $530-$550.
When you give away a prize, you have to declare a value. So that the person who wins can pay income taxes on it (how nice of them). It has nothing to do with how much they phone will actually sell for at retail.
And the people who paid these insane prices to be "FIRST"? How hard of a pill is it to swallow when it's shaped with a $200-$250 premium to pay for a couple weeks?
Sometime it really does pay to wait and watch. (Now I'll eat my words it the unlocked GSM version doesn't materialize around the first week but I'm cool with that if I save that kind of cash.)
Still not available in holland. i really want to buy this phone
IS there any word on the price for the 32 GB version?

It's hard to answer that question because there is no such pill that we can swallow. There is no unlocked GSM version in the US. In the US there is ONLY a Verizon version and it's exclusive to Verizon. For how long? Who knows. My guess is six months. And my guess is after that we might even have T-Mobile and AT&T versions in the US, with different hardware, instead of unlocked pentaband versions. So we might NEVER get unlocked pentaband version in USA.
To me, it's more of a gamble to wait and hope than to act on what is known.

Yeah I never personally understood this mentality. I have no issues signing a phone contract for 2 years. Up in Canada it was 3 years with Telus. So down here in the states 2 years for service that's pretty good and having an awesome phone at a good price just makes sense.
Sure I could go ahead and purchase the phone off contract for 600 dollars but then I'd still end up with AT&T with my unlimited data and whatever it is I have for minutes and texting etc. You pay out one way or another, why not lessen the blow up front.
That said, I do understand that some people don't want a data plan etc. All I can say is last year when we got my inlaws the focus I took their data plan off the bill after a few months. No one screamed bloody murder at me so. Also, why the hell would you want a phone like this and NOT have data and be restricted to only using it on wifi?
To each their own though right!?

I don't like how the Titan and most other LCD screens blur when u scroll. I like the back of the Focus S as well.
deal is live now for non-business customers anyways. 1-cent all WP7 phones
Titan > S but nice to have many choices of nice devices FINALLY.
Just ordered the Titan! It says Free overnight shipping I believe? Perhaps I might get it Monday or Tuesday. The sooner the better since I have < 20 days to return the HTC radar if I like the Titan better
A freaking penny!
Downsides At&t plans suck major balls.
I got a great deal with the radar only paying $60 per month for unlimited everything (up to 2gb highspeed data) and tmobile doesn't even bat an eye with Internet Sharing
Att 450 mins $39.99 2gb data $25 unlimted messesaging/mobile2mobile $20 brining the total to $85 Internet Sharing costs extra!
Do I really want the Titan this bad?

I may regret it, but my shiny new 900 will soften the blow.
if the price of 249 on two year contract is true I will shake my head at nokia, at&t and microsoft
there is no good reason why the price is more than the gsII, the iphone 4s, or anything comparable on the market. Plain and simple
and it may not be penta band (no AWS support) so I'm grasping at the why of this myself. All I know is we will see pricing is important
It would be a wonderful surprise if it was a dual core device but that's not happening...

Sprint will launch a new Windows Phone about a month after Apollo RTM. You are looking at September period.
The device will feature Snapdragon MSM8960 and LTE.
Source: The Verge
Sprint's network currently sucks too bad to support any kind of phone.
Maybe it will change in the future.
This is a bummer. I'm on Sprint now with only the HTC Arrive and I do want to stay on it. Unfortunately I've been sold on the Nokia Lumia 900 so I'm gonna jump over to AT&T once that's out.
Kinda annoyed that both Sprint and Verizon both have exactly 1 Windows Phone. Seriously lame.
While Sprint may be releasing an LTE "Windows Phone 8" device in September, I'll believe it when I see it. Either way, they are so far behind in LTE that it would take a few years for it to be readily available around the country.
I've been with Sprint for about 4 years, and ditched them today for the Lumia 900 and AT&T (pre-ordered). Sprint has shown ZERO support for Windows Phone since it's launch. I remember being laughed at for trying to get the $50 pre-order gift card for my HTC Arrive when it launched last March.

I hate to admit it, but I've been thinking of leaving Sprint for the Lumia 900 too after their lack of support for the Arrive. I'm trying my hardest to hold out though, I don't want to feel buyer's remorse when I see the snazzy new Apollo-based handsets come out a few months later. I know I'll want one of those instead simply because it's new.
I also went to my local Sprint store and asked about that $50 pre-order and nobody had a clue what I was talking about. They eventually called the manager who told me there was no need to pre-order and to just show up on the Sunday release date because there wouldn't be any lines or sell-outs for a Windows Phone. I'm glad I followed his advice because I saved $100 by ordering from Wirefly and still got it within days after it was released.

Kinda annoyed that both Sprint and Verizon both have exactly 1 Windows Phone. Seriously lame.

I may be reaching a bit but I think Microsoft may be party to blame here, if you remember Windows Phone didnt have ANY CDMA support when it was initially released in November 2010, it wasnt until 6 months later when the Arrive came out that there was a CDMA windows phone anywhere maybe if there was CDMA and GSM support in the beginning Sprint and Verizon would have put in more effort
Meh. Sprint and Verizon chose to use, and keep using, a cellular technology that very little of the rest of the world uses (some in China, and I few other countries, but the majority is overwhelmingly GSM). NoDo wasn't *that* long in coming, and it's been more than a year since it shipped. At the rate that phones come out these days, that's plenty of time.
I have no problem with sprint releasing another EVDO WP.. So long as I continue paying $40/mnth

I totally agree. Pre-orderer the Nokia Lumia 900 and am saying bye to Sprint. Thanks for the low cost plans Sprint but you guys suck when it comes to having actual good phones.
I really love the Lumia 900 but I went to price plans with AT&T and it costs almost 40% more than what I have with sprint, not to mention the fact that data is capped. I'm definitely frustrated with Sprint's lack of focus with 4G and WP7 but 40% is 40%.

I will agree that Microsoft was partly to blame for the INITIAL sludge in to the CDMA market with Sprint and Verizon... however, it has been nearly 13 months now since the Trophy and Arrive were released on the two carriers. There is further opportunity for new devices, but both Verizon and Sprint have put their marketing focus behind iPhone (and some Android).

My problem with Sprint isn't the price, it is the speed and availability. I travel weekly, and have resorted to carrying a back-up phone (Samsung Focus unlocked on T-Mobile) due to limited service and speed on Sprint's network. Sprint is perfectly fine in major metropolitan areas, but smaller cities (like Fort Wayne, IN where I was last week) leaves a lot to be desired.
If and when Sprint decides to make the jump to LTE, they are going to be at least 12-18 months behind the competition in network expansion. I'm more than happy to pay a premium price for a premium service.
Sprint has always been good to me. It sucks they only have one wp7 phone but for some reason cherish the iPhone.
I have been with sprint for almost 10 years now. In the last 2 years I have seen them add a $10 fee per smart phone(on a family plan that is an extra $50 a month), they increased the cost of my additional lines, they have taken away the premiere program, while in a 4G city I can't get 4g, and their their 3g speeds gotten have extremely slow. I would like to stay with sprint because it is a big hardware investment to switch carriers but sprint hasn't made it very easy for me. Now they are lacking in the windows phone offereings. I have a couple of Zune HD users in my house and they really want a WP7 phone but are not pleased with the idea of the arrive. I think sprint was banking too much on the iphone giving them a jump start because of their unlimited data but it has panned out as well as they had hoped. I think this is why why they have ignored the WP7 platform.

Not surprising. I'm sure they want to play the "wait and see" game after the Palm Pre didn't do as well as they hoped and they want to go with something that has already proven successful on other carriers.
I would've stayed with sprint but their 3G speeds were getting far too unbearable here in Chicago and the suburbs, plus so many broken promises on when they would fix the towers,it just wasn't worth the $97 I was paying, now with T-mobile I get 10GB of full speed, 500 talk, unlimited text for $100 and my speeds are better than they ever were on sprint, even my throttled speeds are faster than sprint.
Sprint has a LG phone on the way. Its been articles on the net today.
AT&T is way over priced.

Is the LG phone gonna be better than the Nokia Lumia 900?
