[Q] Cant Use SMS with Wifi Calling? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989
Ive recently had a problem with my wifi calling in that I am able to make calls just fine but am unable to send text messages. The message just constantly says sending but never goes through until i turn off the wifi calling. Is the wifi calling only meant for calls and prevents messages from being sent? I can't imagine that it doesnt support SMS but maybe I'm wrong. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks
Weird, works fine for me and I'm on the juggernaut ROM.

I've had this problem with MMS, not SMS. Particularly MMS' with file attachments. (SMS is much slower to send, return receipts take forever, etc, but I don't know if that's just a coincidence or a network thing.)
But yeah, when trying to send MMS pictures (for example) the status will just say "sending" and sometimes even error/time out ("network unavailable") until I switch off Wifi Calling. I suspect it has something to do with the way Wifi Calling uses "Airplane Mode" to turn off the cellular antenna.* Why that would affect MMS and not SMS is beyond me, though.
Anyway, I've experienced the MMS problem on stock (KL1) as well as Juggernaut (4.1) so it's not a ROM issue, AFAICT. I don't use MMS all that much so it's not a big issue for me, but (as you said) if Wifi calling and MMS can't be used at the same time, seems like that's a pretty big oversight on T-Mobile/Samsung's part.
*Hold the power button and check out the menu that appears -- when WiFi calling is on, the power menu will show "Airplane Mode" is enabled. But if you go into the settings menu and DISABLE WiFi Calling, ENABLE Airplane mode, and ENABLE WiFi... and then try to re-enable WiFi Calling again, you get an error message complaining that you can't use wifi calling while in airplane mode. Weird stuff.

WiFi calling and MMS work perfectly with Zombie ROM. The only caveat is NOT using stock message app.(Stock works, but will compress JPGs to 28Kb on average. Handcent compresses to multiple 100's KBs dependiong on original file. Specifically, use Handent and 100% guarantee you it works. By definition, when enabling Airplane mode that disconnects ALL wireless connections. Cell tower and WiFi. I do not get any of the behavior you state regarding using the power button method to enable/disable airplane mode or using the menu settings method. It is a combination of how TMobile is handling 2.3.6 WiFi calling AND specifically how a given ROM works with this newer wifi calling under Android 2.3.6

[Q] MMS and 4G?
Sorry if this has been asked/answered. I couldn't find a thread about it in my search. My question is how to get MMS working over 4G? If my 4G radio is on, MMS won't send or receive. I have to drop down to 3G to get either to go. Has anyone else experienced this, or know of a fix? Right now I'm running Myn's Warm 2.2 RLS2 rom, but I also had the same problem on Ava Froyo v9 so I'm thinking it's not a rom issue. Thanks
That could be because 4G is more like Wifi than it is 3G, and you can't send MMS over Wifi. So whenever you want to send an mms, you gotta turn on your 3g, send, then turn it off. Or you can leave 3g, and go to your wireless and network settings and disable "3g always on." 3g should be inactive when you're using only 4g and then go active as soon as you begin sending an mms.

I couldn't find that option you said, the only thing I could find that even sounded similar was under Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks and it was called Enable always-on mobile data. I turned that off and still couldn't send with my 4G radio on. Not sure if I have to reboot for the change to take effect or something, because I didn't do that.
bump. Still curious if this is by design or if there's something I can fix.

Click to collapse ah, thats what i meant "enable always-on mobile data." leave that enabled, then while you're on 4g and you send something through MMS, it will keep you connected on 4g, and activate your 3g at the same time, sending the MMS. Edit: Sorry about my first post in this thread, i meant to say enable that option, not enable.

My only other thought is that 4G isn't official in my area yet, it's in testing I'm guessing since i pull a signal, but Sprint doesn't acknowledge there is $g here on their site.

m4rk0358 said: Doesn't airplane mode cancel wifi? Click to expand... Click to collapse Nope, I was using it that way on a plane back on Weds of last week. Tried to send an SMS text and it wouldn't let me. internet browsing was working fine. I figure that's the only way you should use a cell phone on a plane, as just turning off mobile data doesn't disable the phone signal too.

crackerstyle said: I'm talking about 4G, not wifi. Click to expand... Click to collapse 4G is a advanced type of wifi
mms is sent through mobile data only, not 4g not wifi when you are on wifi your 3g will randomly connect for mms updates/refresh, on 4g your 3g will do it too, it will be a concurrent connection with no visible connection airplane mode shuts it down completely so if on wifi in airplane mode there are no mms
crackerstyle said: Out of curiosity how? I tried sending an SMS over wifi while in airplane mode and it wouldn't work. Click to expand... Click to collapse That's because SMS needs a mobile connection as it uses the physical cell network to send. MMS, on the other hand, does not. MMS can be sent on another data source (wifi, etc..)

I too must disable 4g to send mms... I am on frost and flashed to another "senseless sense based Rom" both were using the aosp mms program, I wonder if thats the problem????

How do I disable wifi calling/sms on LG G2 running ZVG?
My phone tries to always route calls and text messages through wifi when it is connected to one, even when connectivity is limited. So when I'm at work, I sometimes have trouble receiving text messages and calls, because of business wifi blocking certain things. Does anyone know how do I turn off wifi calling and text, permanently, so that the phone never tries to call/text via wifi? **EDIT**: I think I am coming to realization, that it's not wifi, but a $hitty sprint network...
T-Mobile update messed up MMS/Group Messaging? Something unique to our model?
Hi folks, I posted in the main G3 forum, here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/mm-update-messaging-mms-doesnt-wifi-t3577069 So sorry to cross post, but on reflection I think this may be something specific to T-Mobile's implementation of the Marshmallow update on our phones due to T-mobile wifi calling. Basically, when I'm on the cell network, but connected to a WIFI access point, and can receive cellular calls and SMS just fine, MMS messaging doesn't work, which includes group messaging. Messages just sit there "sending." Lots of reports of similar phenomena around, no real solution. Textra has a "T-Mobile wifi calling fix" that works for me, even though my wifi calling is switched off (I'm using the phone on ATT network). But I want to go back to Google Messages. It seems the phone doesn't know how to use the cellular data in cases where there is a protocol-driven reason not to use wifi, in the case where the phone is connected to wifi. Basically, it's failing to drop back to cellular. Any ideas here? I'll try anything! Thanks
I have noticed this as well. I have not found a work around to send MMS over Wi-Fi calling.
Not receiving calls and texts while on wifi on one plus 5T
I am unable to receive calls and texts when my phone is connected to wifi network. The call will go to voicemail and I won't receive any notification even when the phone's screen is on. Once I turn off the wifi, voicemails, and text will come in rapid succession. If I again turn on the wifi, everything will work fine for next 20-30mins and then the same problem will come back. I am on OOS 5.1.1 not rooted. My network is t-mobile. I have done a factory reset and explored multiple options on the web. Users reported similar problems with previous versions of Oneplus. My wife has one plus 5 and she is also having the same problem. Any solution will be appreciated.
Same issue here Rooted, OOS 5.1.2, T-Mobile.
I guess no one anywhere in the op5/t community has this issue except 3 of us? Anyone? Can anyone help?
@DragonMessor Hey everyone on T-mobile with this issue. I solved it. I had to go into the T-mobile app and then click the "more" tab. Go to address and then check the box that says "make this the e911 address for all lines". That will lock in the VoWifi in and allow texts over wifi. My texts over wifi now work with no cell signal and even with wifi off. I am using google messages and I don't even have the option for advanced messaging in the app. Hopefully the OP gets this if he didn't move on to another phone yet and hopefully it helps someone. ? @micet
