[Q] Seidio Surface Case - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I'm really looking to getting this case. I loved the look and feel of it on my Nexus S... until I realized the inside edges where it snapped together scratched my phone up!
I have a carbon skin on this phone, but it doesn't really cover everything. Can someone here that HAS the SURFACE case chime in on how it's protecting your phone? I'm most interested if you've owned it for more than a week or two and could pop it back open and examine the phone.
The insides of these cases other than the felt part tend to be hard and rough. I had to import my Galaxy Nexus so I'm really hesitant to chance scratching it, especially since the SURFACE with holster is almost 50 bucks. Any help would be appreciated!

I've had a Nexus One, and Nexus S, now Galaxy nexus.
I've own the Seidio Surface case on ALL of them. On the Galaxy Nexus, the case is super fricking hard to put on and especially take off. The Nexus S was much easier. I'm guessing it definitely will scratch up the sides.
Also there are no clips on the bottom, so using the 2000mah battery on my GSM Galaxy Nexus is very very tight and the bottom opens up.
I picked up the Surface Combo with belt holster for around $30 on Amazon so I didn't mind the price. I definitely would not buy it for $50.
I stopped using the Surface because of the bigger battery. I'm using the Qmadix Holster case. Search and you can see my review I posted about it.

Thanks for the great review on the seidio. I know they have a bigger version for the Verizon version but the risk of damage is too much. If it had felt all over the inside it might be perfect. The case feels awesome when it was on the nexus... seems like such an easy fix. I will look into that other case but again I'm worried about not having the top or bottom covered.
I guess the tpu cases will have to do for now. They will fit in a seidio holster and the ballistic case will be out soon too.

I got the active case and I think its much better over their surface line because it has the rubber case covered in the hard case and it will not ever fall off your phone if you drop it, it seems. I have seen hard cases not hold on to well and pop off when you drop your phone. The only annoying thing is it will get some dust and pocket lint stuck to the rubber part, but i feel more secure with my phone knowing if I drop it, it will be fine. I dropped my Tbolt in active case many times and had some nasty flying times and it never got one ding or scratch on it with the Active case on it.

Otterbox vs CaseMate vs Incipio for the GN

Best? Worst?
Pros and Cons?
Obivously it's a little early to have a ton of info on each (at least in the states) but I'm sure this thread will prove useful as more people at theirs.
I didnt make it out of the parking lot with the Otterbox. It's a great case and I feel like I could throw my phone off a building without any damage. However I didnt notice how much girth it added to the phone until I tried to put it in my pocket.. things a tank. Easily doubles the width, so keep that in mind if its important to you.
I have the casemate toughcase. Originally i liked it but now not so much. The silicone was a dust and pocket lint magnet and it started peeling up corners of my zagg screen protector. It just didnt fit right but i have the gsm gnex which is a tad thinner. I tested the otterbox in a vzw store tonight and i hated it. Everytime i touched the screen the protector made little tap like noises because it wasnt touching the screen. Again....i think its because the otterbox is made for the LTE nexus. I have the diztronic tpu case in matte black and also the smoke color and ive been happy with them so far. They also do not add any bulk. I have to wonder why anyone would want to get a thin and light phone only to add a bulky looking case?
I have the casemate tough case, I don't mind the dust trapping cuz it really doesn't do anything. I have the gsm version, the top and bottom part is a tinyyyy bit loose, but also doesn't bug me. The thickness is perfect and i think its as much protection as i need so... I hope that helps :0
I have case mate tough and pop case, and I highly recommend the pop case, the design, protection, feel, it sums up as the best case for me...I use otterbox for most of my devices, and the case mate pop case does not lack any of the protection compare to otterbox

I just ordered a case mate pop. How does it seal around the front face (glass)?
Also, does the part that seals to the glass attack lint?
What about a screen protector? What is best one that doesn't make the screen feel or look weird?

I've had the Pop for other phones. It's a nice case, my only complaint about that series is the side rubbers. They tend to wear off as time goes on and starts becoming loose.
Provides excellent protection though.
I don't have the phone yet (ordered online) but I bought the incipio case for it earlier today. Anyone else tried it on their LTE GNex? Thoughts? I didn't see a Otterbox case for it at the Verizon store.
I got the incipio case with mine when I picked it up earlier. So far, I like it, its real tight fitting and doesn't add a whole lot of thickness. Only downside is the silicone around the edges is a lint magnet while in the pocket

I have the incipio case and really like it. Fits snugly around my GSM Nexus and isn't too big. I had the Case Mate tough case with my S II and just found it too big

Sedio has some really nice cases. I have had one for nearly 2 years now for my original Droid. It has protected it well although it did crack eventually after many drops.
I also bought the sedio car mount/charger and really liked that as well.
Sedio is a bit pricey... 2 years ago the car charger mount was at least $50 and the case was $20-$25. It was a very thin form fitting case that is plastic but has a almost rubbery feel to it. Very tough and it barley added any thickness to my Droid which was amazing. Guess that is why it was so pricey.
I got the shell holster charger combo when I ordered my GN yesterday... waiting for it to arrive... as patiently as I can!
I tried the Otterbox in the VZW store on my GNex -- certainly looked industrial and protective, but it made the phone huge. The Incipio seemed like a good compromise - the rubber inner part goes on easily, and the plastic snap-over layer keeps it nice and snug to the phone. The egde protrudes just enough so that you can place the phone glass down without the glass touching a table - perfect.
No screen protector yet - and I may not. It may not be Gorilla Glass, but it's been shown to be "fortified", and I won't put it in my pocket with keys or change... The Incipio seems like a good choice so far...
Anyone have a link for the black Case-Mate Pop case? I can only seem to find the white one.
EDIT: Nevermind, I'm an idiot

The Defender (The more expensive, bigger one) or the Commuter?
So I've already ordered the Case Mate Tough, because I didn't know there was a Pop for the Nexus yet.
They don't show it listed on the actual Case Mate site Nexus page.
What are the differences between the Tough and the Pop?

I have the Otterbox Commuter for my Razr and it looks like the silicone shares the same properties of picking up everything in my pocket. lol
I really like the Case-Mate Tough Case which I had with my HTC Sensation and it didn't pick up as much lint as the Otterbox commute or now possibly the Incipio.
I can't wait for my phone to arrive so I can finally try for myself.
Thanks!

Commuter or Defender?
the question is which of these fit the GSM Version well.
Diztronic only $10 from eBay. Perfect fit and no bulkiness added.
I have the GSM version as well

Alternative Otterbox Suggestions

I have had the Otterbox defender on since day one. And it protects great. Today i took it off to swap my battery and remembered how great this phone looks without it. But I'm not one to go unprotected.
I'm looking for suggestions on other cases. Something that protects but necessarily the bulk of the Otterbox. I work a office job so rugged case isn't too necessary.
Must be compatible with the extended battery.
I was looking at the SGP Neo hybrid cases but they say coming soon on the website.
Please share your suggestions. Thanks guys.

Hey, i have the commuter case on for a few days now and i love it. It adds just enough bulk and size to the phone to make is sit and feel perfect in my hand. But everyones hands are different so not all will think its great. I did however order the Neo Hybrid case in Reventon yellow and should have it tomorrow or saturday and ill let you know how it is and feels along with some pics, and possibly a small review.
But so far i LOVE the commuter case. should take a look at it. i wrote up a review but i have to do a few more posts before xda lets me post it lol
I have the Otterbox Defender as well and am surprised at how much I like it... Typically like nothing on my phones but gotta have protection on this beauty...
Just got an Incipio Silicrylic in the mail to try... Definitely less bulk than the Otterbox... You can actually see some of the sexy lines of the Nexus with this case.... The Incipio provides some protection, as it does have at least some hard plastic to it, but not anything close to the Otterbox.. Not sure that my GNex would survive a fall on a hard surface in the Incipio....
Problem with the Incipio is that it will not fit in the Otterbox holster or the Verizon holster that I already have, so probably will go back to the OB Defender...
Anybody interested in making me an offer on a brand new Incipio or Verizon Case & Holder I will listen....
One reason for my Otterbox purchase was the holster. But i have never used it. It's too big to have clipped on my side.
I know no case will protect like the defender but im good with my phones to get a scaled down case. I thought about the commuter but not sure how much size difference there is.
What price you looking at for your incipio?

I watched a review and it said with the extended battery the plastic outer shell just fit tightly against the silicone as it does at the top. Did you notice this?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Fit tight w/extended battery in, but not a problem in my opinion... I would bet it might even loosen up a bit over time...
I like the Incipio's look and feel... Much smaller size than OB, but have to have a holster to carry my GNex..
It doesn't have quite the amount of protection (ie not waterproof) like the defender but soon Ballistic will release their case for the Galaxy Nexus. I have a Galaxy Nexus on the way and will be giving my Nexus S to my wife. My wife is like a phone's worst nightmare. She seems to always be dropping them and my two kids are both under 3 and the oldest loves to snatch our phones. I got the Ballistic case for the Nexus S for her and after putting it on yesterday I'm a believer. I already have it covered completely by Ghost Armor skin, and with the Ballistic case it's just very well protected. The bumpers on the corners are amazing and so is the fit and finish. Makes the phone pretty bulky (not as much as the defender) but it makes the phone much nicer to hold and type on. I would recommend it for the Galaxy Nexus. I have a TPU case on order but will pick up the Galaxy Nexus version Ballistic case too once it is released.

Do you have any quick impressions/pics of the Neo Hybrid? It'll be interesting to see how well it fits the LTE GNex since it was designed for the GSM non-extended battery GNex.
I have the Incipio Silicrylic (aka Double Cover, VZW repackaged). It's a nice case and it fits well on the phone. It doesn't add too much bulk. I like that the hard cover goes around the corners, unlike the Otterbox Commuter. Cutouts for the phone are nice. No need to mess around with clumsy flaps. And the buttons work well under the silicone cover. Great case for less. I got mine at the Verizon store for $20 +tax after a discount. I don't use a holster, but I am looking into getting an XO Skin.
Another alternative that I was initially looking at was the Seidio Surface Combo. It's a hard soft-touch case with a holster, if you need the holster. They also sell it without.

Video Review: Trident Aegis for Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys,
Got my hands on the new Aegis series case from Trident, this is a 2 piece hybrid style case that offers great protection. The silicone inner layer features reinforced corners for added drop protection and the plastic spine acts as a mold to keep the case rigid and strong. While it may be a bit bulky, this case offers great protection without becoming an overly large size.
Check out the full review below for more info:
Very good review.
Thanks for the review!

good review mate!!
Thanks again - to those who wanted me to review the Kraken AMS, I may still get the case but I'm more concerned with getting a Galaxy Note and the AMS for that device.
Yeah another review of the AMS Kraken case would be awesome. Im more interested in the accessories though. I would love to know a bit more about the car dock attachment. That was my biggest complaint (Other than the 3 pin connection) with the Samsung dock. There was NO room for a case or extra bulk. I want something that will protect my phone REALLY well but still be able to use maps without balancing it on my leg while driving. The Kraken and car dock accessory sounds perfect. Im just a little skeptical about dropping 65 buck on it all.
The case looks great, I'm a little wary of the silicone though.... looks like its extremely covered especially at the bottom, how does it go into pockets? Especially in denim, where my pockets are filled with lint.
The good thing about the otterbox, although the silicone does pick up a pretty significant amount of lint, there is just so little silicone that all you need to do is wipe your finger across the top and its gone.

Goes in fine but you feel it pushing away when you remove it from pockets, nothing serious though. You're right regarding the otterbox though, I love how the silicone is covered up by the plastic.
I've got the case, I really don't like it. The hard plastic goes around 3 sides and feels good. However the bottom side, its just silicon and it flaps about a bit, comes away from the phone whenever I try to hold it or take it out of my pocket.
I'll be looking for a different case.
Previously I had an Otter case for my Galaxy S, and it was really excellent.

This. I completely agree. I've been using the green aegis for about 2 months. I HATE the bottom not being covered by the shell. The silicon gets caught on things. The port cover is terrible too. It will not stay in place anymore and just kinda hangs and flops there.
I love Trident cases but I can't recommend this particular case. I'm thinking of trying the Casemate Pop or Otterbox Commuter.
Reminds me of the, well, it would sound strange if I mentioned that.

otterbox defender

I'm going to get a Galaxy Nexus soon, and I need a case. I was thinking of getting the defender because of the build in screen protector, but i read a couple of posts that say that the case can scratch your phone. Is this true?
I have also read somewhere that it can scratch the phone. It's probably not the case that scratches the phone but a foreign body (sand, grit, dust) getting trapped inside the case. I think regular cleaning of the inside should fix that. I think i could anyway live with a few minor scratches considering the peace of mind the case otherwise gives you.
I bought one and had it on for a few months, it not only scratched the outer edges of the phone, it gouged it. I agree it likely had to do with contaminants getting into the case, which did happen. I had to pull the phone out of the case every second day because of things getting into it.
While I love defender cases, I was disappointed in the one for our phones.
Thanks for the info guys. I will stay away from this case.
Try the otterbox commuter. It wont scratch the device as the inner layer is silicon and not plastic.
Have a commuter and although I rarely use it, the case is sufficient. Only complaint is that it's a huge lint collector.
I have the trident kraken. It's thick, but still fits easily into my pocket. Another good option is the Seidio Active.
I had the Defender and quickly returned it as it doesn't fit properly with my GSM Galaxy Nexus.
I ended up getting the Trident Kraken and Otterbox Commuter. Both are great cases that provide enough protection for the type of work I do.
The Kraken may be too bulky for most, so I would recommend getting the Commuter instead.

Looking for a case with a balance of protection and thinness

Hey guys,
I had bad luck with my Rezound (5 replacements), so I talked to Verizon and they're sending me a certified Galaxy S3 instead (exchanged phones). I read up on the GS3 though and have heard that the glass is really brittle and will crack/break if you drop it. Well lucky me, I have dropped my previous phones more times than I can count. Despite all the problems I have had with my Rezound, the screen was surprisingly resilient. I have gotten nothing more than scratches to the screen and dent marks where the side of the phone hit the road.
Most of my past drops have been either falling out of my pocket when I'm walking, getting out of my car, or slipping out of my hands when I take it out of my pocket. So now I'm definitely worried about my GS3. I've been looking at many different cases, and I think my top choice so far are the DBA cases:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009ANI712
They seem to be raved about over in the DBA thread, and it looks quite protective, yet slim. They remind me a lot of the commuter series from Otterbox, only that the inside layer is TPU instead of silicone. The only thing that worries me is that if I drop it, the front of the case doesn't raise the screen as high as it does on the Otterbox.
I like a protective case, but after the Commuter, (on my fat Rezound) I really didn't want to add to the thickness. Can you guys recommend me a slimmer case that will protect me from 3-5 ft drops?
Thanks!
Theres a few out there, Urban Armor Gear, Ballistic SG, Ballistic Life Style, I have the seidio surface right now but I wouldnt rely on it for multiple hi drops. Ive dropped it a couple times from bed height without a scratch on it tho.
PS, i ordered the new release for ballistic, called the every1 case, ill get back at u with info next week.

I'm really liking the Urban Armor Gear. What would be more protective, the Urban Armor Gear or the DBA case? Basically both are the same, TPU inner layer with a hard shell covering it, except the UAG is a hybrid (1 piece) while the DBA case has two pieces. They look the same in bulkiness too but what's to be determined is their protection.
What do you guys think?
Honestly the urban armor case would be the wise decision. But i like to clean my phone once and awhike the case was a bit a pain to take off because of it concave shape, so i got myself the rokform case. I like it because i dropped it several times at different speeds and it survive so far. Plus having the magnet works for me and the sbeam does work without fail. And having that built in socket for mounts and ect. Saves me money on car mounts , and using it at a dock in my room. Rokform is my decision im glad i chose.
