Hey guys,
I had bad luck with my Rezound (5 replacements), so I talked to Verizon and they're sending me a certified Galaxy S3 instead (exchanged phones). I read up on the GS3 though and have heard that the glass is really brittle and will crack/break if you drop it. Well lucky me, I have dropped my previous phones more times than I can count. Despite all the problems I have had with my Rezound, the screen was surprisingly resilient. I have gotten nothing more than scratches to the screen and dent marks where the side of the phone hit the road.
Most of my past drops have been either falling out of my pocket when I'm walking, getting out of my car, or slipping out of my hands when I take it out of my pocket. So now I'm definitely worried about my GS3. I've been looking at many different cases, and I think my top choice so far are the DBA cases:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009ANI712
They seem to be raved about over in the DBA thread, and it looks quite protective, yet slim. They remind me a lot of the commuter series from Otterbox, only that the inside layer is TPU instead of silicone. The only thing that worries me is that if I drop it, the front of the case doesn't raise the screen as high as it does on the Otterbox.
I like a protective case, but after the Commuter, (on my fat Rezound) I really didn't want to add to the thickness. Can you guys recommend me a slimmer case that will protect me from 3-5 ft drops?
Thanks!
Theres a few out there, Urban Armor Gear, Ballistic SG, Ballistic Life Style, I have the seidio surface right now but I wouldnt rely on it for multiple hi drops. Ive dropped it a couple times from bed height without a scratch on it tho.
PS, i ordered the new release for ballistic, called the every1 case, ill get back at u with info next week.

I recommend the Body glove Rugged in black. Its amazing!! I have it and when I first put it on it felt so thin from my previous case. Its really thin, yet has a lip and great edge drop protection . Sometimes I throw it for fun , lol

I'm really liking the Urban Armor Gear. What would be more protective, the Urban Armor Gear or the DBA case? Basically both are the same, TPU inner layer with a hard shell covering it, except the UAG is a hybrid (1 piece) while the DBA case has two pieces. They look the same in bulkiness too but what's to be determined is their protection.
What do you guys think?
Honestly the urban armor case would be the wise decision. But i like to clean my phone once and awhike the case was a bit a pain to take off because of it concave shape, so i got myself the rokform case. I like it because i dropped it several times at different speeds and it survive so far. Plus having the magnet works for me and the sbeam does work without fail. And having that built in socket for mounts and ect. Saves me money on car mounts , and using it at a dock in my room. Rokform is my decision im glad i chose.
Asian Powaa!?!?!?!?!?

Try taking a look at the Tech21 D3O Impact Mesh case. It's pretty thin and unobtrusive yet provides a nice protection. Here's a link to the one I use. I've been through a bunch of expensive cases and like this one the best by far.

I use it at work. I work on roof tops and have already dropped my phone off of a one story house and my phone was fully protected. Here's a little advertisement on YouTube.

Trying to decide on a case for an evo. Hopefully getting an evo with my upgrade January first and just trying to do my due diligence. Have an otterbox commuter for my hero and love it.
What case do you have?
Pros and cons?
Screen protector necessary? Never had one on my hero but I know the evo's screen is much bigger.
Thanks in advance for your replies!

Seidio rugged
I have the seidio rugged case for my evo. Its only about 40 bucks off ebay. I like it better then both the otterbox and ther ballistic. It looks better...has more protection and if for any reason you ever have to take it off its alot easier to remove then the other cases.

I have 2 Seidio Rugged cases and they both fell apart with mild use. The tabs on the end snapped off and the covers are peeling. The thin rubber also tore off with time.
I have 2 Trident Cyclops cases now, they feel like they are built much better. It seems slightly sleeker but I think it offers at least as much protection.
For heavy duty use, go Ballistic.

i agree with this.
go with trident or ballistic.
personally i love my trident cyclops.
With the Trident do you not have the rainbow issue on screen from screen protector?
Also heard that pictures from the camera have a blue tint with the Cyclops on.
Aosp froyo, It's the poop!
the ballistic has more protection than any case out right now. the design of the ballistic is delightful. it is EXTREME protection. it has a built in screen protector and an additional screen protector thats optional. you can drop the phone from the ceiling to your floor and it will save the phone.. i have a mint grey ballistic case im selling for $30 bux shipped in the classifieds. smoke it over and look at the photos to check it out.
without the silicon jacket the ballistic case is close in size to the otterbox defender. you can use the included holster with or without the silicon jacket if you dont need the full protection. all ports are covered with the silicon jacket on (rubber flaps over the jack and bottom ports) the camera, LED lamps and speaker on back are all protected. the
IMO the Ballistic case is a much superior product. second to that would be the otterbox....
Thats weird. I work construction and trust me ive pushed this case to the limit and its held up everytime. Ive had it since june and it still fits just as snug as day1. As far as the ballistic my co-worker had a ballistic on his htc incredible and his cracked while in his pocket simply by stepping up a latter. The preesure of his jeans pushing down was enough to crack it. I dropped my seidio down a elevator shaft and simply scuffed my belt holdster

yeah, sometimes i get a rainbow effect in certain areas, even with the premium protector. i don't really notice it when the screen is on though.
the blue tint is from the piece of plastic they put inside to cover the camera and led's. i just popped it out.
I think it really depends on what you're going to be doing with your phone, where you're going to be most of the time, and how likely you are to drop it.
To say that any one case is the "best" case for the evo (and any phone/thing you put a case on lol) would be wrong, imo.
Say you're looking for looks -- you'd go for something like a barely there from casemate
Say you're looking for full on rugged protection -- you'd go for something like the ballistic
For reference, I've heard not great things about build quality of the Defender from Otterbox, and Seidio cases. *anecdotal, so take it as you will*
As I said in another thread, I have the Impact series case from Otterbox.
Fits my needs, so it's the "best" case for me.

Unless I'm missing something, they don't make any Ballistic cases for the Incredible...
Ballistic does not make cases for the Incredible. The only HTC phone they have a case available for is the HTC EVO. www.goballisticcase.com
I'm currently using an Otterbox Defender for mine and its holding well. I'm interested in a Ballistic HC because since they introduced it the case looks like a step up from the Defender. I've seen videos and read the personal reviews of people who have had both and the HC is "better" according to most. It all depends on where your phone will be and what you'll be doing with it. I don't really care much about the size. I want a case that is going to protect my $500 investment.
If you want the best protection for your EVO I'd say Ballistic HC or Otterbox Defender. Each is $50 or you can check out the Trident Cyclops which is only $34.95.
if you dont mind the size, the Ballistic blows away the otterbox and the Trident for protection.....
I prefer the Fishbone case...I paid $12 bucks for it and so far it is great for me.

I had the tough case for my Samsung Vibrant and I loved it.
I like the platinum gun metal case I got when I got the phone.
It's lightweight and thin. There is felt on the back inside so it doesn't scuff up your phone. The corners of the front also help to keep my invisible shield in place in case it decided to wander around in the heat.
best case for me
I got a Seidio Innocase for X-mas to replace the one I got with the phone. That, plus an Invisishield is all the protection I need and it suits me. I wanted to try the Impact Series Otterbox, so I ordered one. They sent me a Defender Series and when I called them up they just sent me the right one, no questions asked. I have them both still, but don't use them. The Defender is, well, I just don't drive a tank or work in a war zone, so I don't really need it (and yes, the kick stand on that case is an absolute joke...). The Impact Series Otterbox just sticks in my pocket too much and I can't get it out as easily, but it looks adequate I suppose. The Innocase is great for me, doesn't stick in my pocket, has felt on the back so it doesn't scratch or scuff my device and isn't too bulky. That's why Santa got me another one.
P.S. I think the snap in the back slide-in broke b/c I was pulling it apart quite often to do battery pulls (cause not all ROMs are stable...) and didn't just leave it out of the case like I should have... Only time I've taken the new one off was tonight to put my new Seidio extended 1750 mAh Innocell battery Santa brought in before bedtime to charge over night (ok, maybe one other time...)
Not Swyped from anywhere cause my battery is being conditioned (duh!)
I have the Innocase active in blue.It came down to what I really wanted the case to do for me or rather my phone as well.
I wanted protection first and for most, then comfort in my hand and then looks.
It is a little bulky but that bulk is my protection from waste high drops. My 3 year old nephew has tested it out for me by throwing it on the hard wood floor standing on the kitchen chair...lol
It feels really good to the touch and unless your hands are on the smaller side, you will enjoy the fit.I wear a large glove so it fits me good.
It looks great. The fit and finish are very good.It will take getting use to.A little harder push to operate the power button but a fingernail tip makes it easier.
Now for the wearing it issue...It,while in the case on your side will be odd at first.I am a bigger guy,5`11 228 but my waste is 36.I notice it a lot more than say a smaller framed 150 pounder would but,it does stay put on my belt.I just rotate the top of the phone 90 degrees facing the front of my body and it rides that way with no issues at all.
Worth the money in my opinion.

In addition to otterbox and cyclops look at the seidio active x.

I just had my second Otterbox holster break. They replaced the first one without batting an eye. I haven't had a chance to call about #2, but frankly I'm not sure if I want to risk it. Fortunately the phone fell out while I was driving my car, not my motorcycle, but I'm not sure I want to risk it again.
So far it's the only case I've tried.
I hate to buck the trend, but I really like the cheap TPU eBay cases. I know, I know, some of us think you need to spend a lot to pamper your Cappy, but I do have my reasons.
They are cheap. I'm big on spending less than $5 for things.
TPU is a great blend of rigidity and pliability. I think silicone is a touch too soft to disperse impact energy, and hard plastic transmits the energy to the phone and often breaks in the process.
They are slick, but easy to hold. I carry my phone in my pocket. I think holsters look kinda dumb. TPU is generally very smooth and slides in and out of a pocket very nicely.
They are thin. Many of the hard molded cases turn your sexy-thin Captivate into a non-sexy blob, cool molded patterns notwithstanding. Lots of the silicone cases have kind of a shapeless look that I don't like.
I've been using a plain black TPU case for a while now, and I get lots of comments on how thin my phone is. I've also dropped it several times with no ill effect, except a less shiny spot on one corner of the cover. No complaints, and I really have a hard time imagining how the expensive ones are better.
TPU is nice and much, much better than silicone. I wish otter/seidio/trident would use TPU. I have a thin TPU case (body glove) and like it alot. Its just sometimes I want the thicker, two layered plastic and rubber case which is why I also have the seidio active.
The first case I bought was the pdair aluminum which would be a nice case but it kills the cellular signal so I can't recommend anyone buy it. Wifi works fine so if I ever travel somewhere I won't have service I plan on using it.
I like my Bodyglove case just fine. I've used it since the launch of the cappy and couldn't be happier. It's more rigid than silicone and less bulky than the otterbox. I've dropped my cappy numerous times on pavement, and as long as a jutting edge doesn't hit the screen it won't break. There is a slight lip on the front of the body glove that makes it so the screen doesn't hit when dropped on a flat surface.

Last I checked, Otterbox only has the Commuter for the S2, ATM.
Body Glove
I have bought like 5 cases for my cappy, the Otterbox, Body Glove, a slim hard plastic snap on case and a full hard snap on case.
In the end my 2 favorites are the Body Glove and the Slim snap on that snaps only on the back.
The otterbox case is nice, it is just too bulky. I use the Body Glove daily because it protects from impact, is not bulky and slides in and out of the pocket easy.
Moving forward I am all about the TPU cases.
I use this case http://www.seidioonline.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=BD2-HK3SSCAP-BK
Look on ebay, I've seen these for $35. Dropped the phone twice and there's no damage on the phone at all.
I use the otterbox commuter with an invisible shield screen protector. I work with concrete and often get my phone cpvered with dust and grime. The case gets really dirty but when I remove it the phone is still perfect. I would take this case over the bulky defender version.

Best? Worst?
Pros and Cons?
Obivously it's a little early to have a ton of info on each (at least in the states) but I'm sure this thread will prove useful as more people at theirs.
I didnt make it out of the parking lot with the Otterbox. It's a great case and I feel like I could throw my phone off a building without any damage. However I didnt notice how much girth it added to the phone until I tried to put it in my pocket.. things a tank. Easily doubles the width, so keep that in mind if its important to you.
I have the casemate toughcase. Originally i liked it but now not so much. The silicone was a dust and pocket lint magnet and it started peeling up corners of my zagg screen protector. It just didnt fit right but i have the gsm gnex which is a tad thinner. I tested the otterbox in a vzw store tonight and i hated it. Everytime i touched the screen the protector made little tap like noises because it wasnt touching the screen. Again....i think its because the otterbox is made for the LTE nexus. I have the diztronic tpu case in matte black and also the smoke color and ive been happy with them so far. They also do not add any bulk. I have to wonder why anyone would want to get a thin and light phone only to add a bulky looking case?
I have the casemate tough case, I don't mind the dust trapping cuz it really doesn't do anything. I have the gsm version, the top and bottom part is a tinyyyy bit loose, but also doesn't bug me. The thickness is perfect and i think its as much protection as i need so... I hope that helps :0

I've had the Pop for other phones. It's a nice case, my only complaint about that series is the side rubbers. They tend to wear off as time goes on and starts becoming loose.
Provides excellent protection though.
I don't have the phone yet (ordered online) but I bought the incipio case for it earlier today. Anyone else tried it on their LTE GNex? Thoughts? I didn't see a Otterbox case for it at the Verizon store.
I got the incipio case with mine when I picked it up earlier. So far, I like it, its real tight fitting and doesn't add a whole lot of thickness. Only downside is the silicone around the edges is a lint magnet while in the pocket

Sedio has some really nice cases. I have had one for nearly 2 years now for my original Droid. It has protected it well although it did crack eventually after many drops.
I also bought the sedio car mount/charger and really liked that as well.
Sedio is a bit pricey... 2 years ago the car charger mount was at least $50 and the case was $20-$25. It was a very thin form fitting case that is plastic but has a almost rubbery feel to it. Very tough and it barley added any thickness to my Droid which was amazing. Guess that is why it was so pricey.
I got the shell holster charger combo when I ordered my GN yesterday... waiting for it to arrive... as patiently as I can!
I tried the Otterbox in the VZW store on my GNex -- certainly looked industrial and protective, but it made the phone huge. The Incipio seemed like a good compromise - the rubber inner part goes on easily, and the plastic snap-over layer keeps it nice and snug to the phone. The egde protrudes just enough so that you can place the phone glass down without the glass touching a table - perfect.
No screen protector yet - and I may not. It may not be Gorilla Glass, but it's been shown to be "fortified", and I won't put it in my pocket with keys or change... The Incipio seems like a good choice so far...
Anyone have a link for the black Case-Mate Pop case? I can only seem to find the white one.

I made a $164 fumble the other day when pulling my 1 month old GN out of my pocket. It can't have been more than three-feet off the ground, but apparently that was enough to shatter the screen on the tile floor I was standing on.
I have been looking over a ton of different case reviews, but it seems like most reviews aren't tailored toward drop protection info, but rather are mostly about aesthetics. I don't particularly care about how it looks. I want a case that still fit in my pocket, but will give a better grip and protect the screen if I ever drop it again.
Are there any clumsy people out there who know first hand that a certain case will protect again every day drops?
Also, I don't want a screen protector. After my screen broke, I ran a few scratch tests on the un-cracked parts and am pretty confident that scratches aren't a problem (though apparently drops are).
I use the otterbox commuter, ive dropped it a LOT of times(on concrete) and no damage at all, its made of 2 parts, one sillicon case and a hardcase so it is really made for protection.
It does add a lot of bulk to your nexus but personally i dont mind
I got the Seidio Active case and it looks like it would do well in drops.
Hard plastic on corners and a good bit of soft rubber everywhere else.
Now I haven't dropped mine yet but the case makes me feel safe if I do.
I'll call it a medium bulk case.
Otterbox cases are the best if you need protection. They have several models so you can pick what works best for you. And they are usually sensibly priced.

I second that, the diztronic tpu, is the best TPU case I've used, protects well from minor drops... and doesn't add much thickness to the device. I've always had a hard time keeping a case on my previous phones because of either the fit or it's too bulky with it on. With the diztronic, it's not any thicker than my last phone (droid x2) so I always keep it on..

+1 works great.
I use a Rinkge slim which probably wont work against a drop if landing right but it has saved mine a few times. Once I dropped it and in an effort to save it, kicked it across a smooth concrete floor. The case is all scratched up but not the Nexus.

I use an otterbox commuter when I'm at work. The added bulk doesn't really make it that much thicker, this is a thin phone anyway, which I think makes it easier to drop. I work in a dusty environment around chemicals and dyes so I wanted the extra protection. I have a tpu bumper case for my off days.
Highly recommend otterbox commuter. December is too bulky for daily use and I don't trust any other brands for protection

I m on my third otterbox defender case (they send them to you by mail if you have problems). With all of them the outer rubber sleeve has stretched so that it no longer stays in the grooves.
So I am looking for a new case. I could use some suggestions.
Thanks.

I've been using the OtterBox Commuter Series since I got the phone. No issues so far.
Urban Armor Gear. By far the best case for the GS3 if you are looking for protection without adding thickness to the phone. You can find about 1,250 posts regarding this case here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1826668

I'm on my second defender for the same reason. Commuter is the way to go.

Seidio ACTIVE with kickstand
This Seidio case is the one I use. I've dropped it several times, and it has a few nicks and scuffs on it. Love it, though, as it is very durable, and seems to maintain its fit very well.
Also, the white/black case looks really nice with my white SGS3.
I use an Aduro hardshell case with kickstand, it's awesome. I've dropped it plenty of times and not a scratch on it!
Do you use any cleaners on your Defender? I have run into problems with using plastic cleaners (even good ones like Plexus!) with some phone cases where it allows it to become too soft and stretches it.

Me too. I even somehow cracked the shell part and they sent me a new one. I haven't opened it yet.
Stretched out cases are a problem in the materials i think. I've saw it on my Captivate, Inspire, and now S3. But they keep replacing, so I'll keep using. I haven't really saw or heard of a sturdier case, short of the new Armor series.
i've always used case-mate's "tough case" on my galaxy phones. great protection while still remaining slim. also, otterbox has the new reflex case. i would recommend that one as well. slim and tough. you can find both on amazon for around $20. cheers

Commuter in black, Commuter in white, and Spigen Ultra Thin Air...
Otterbox Defender. Since they replace it once it stretches out with no problems I will continue to use it.
My defender silicon case has stretched out before. I simply placed in boiling water (OFF THE BURNER) for exactly thirty seconds. Remove it with tongs and quickly, yet gently dry it off. Mold it to the plastic case and place it in the fridge to cool.
Perform at your own risk. Your experience may vary.
I use the Urban Armor Gear. It is the best case IMO. I had the Otterbox Commuter, and the CaseMate Pop! Nothing beats the Urban Armor Gear. I love how it makes the phone square and flat and not curved. And idk why, but it makes my screen look bigger. It looks huge and bulky in the product photos but it's really thin.
I'm using a Trident Kraken. I love it more than my Defender.

Currently running a black Incipio silicrylic. Yesterday I purchased a black UAG based on the reviews of it and it should be here tomorrow.
I use a Seidio Surface case and love it. It's a hard shell, but not so thick that it can't be used in some docks. Soft-touch coating so it's easy to grip. And it has cutouts around the buttons (I like using the actual buttons on the phone, not the crappy ones that most cases include). The only downside is it's TOUGH to get off if you don't know the trick (apparently, I can't vouch for that since I STILL can't do it easily).

I have the defender as well. I also notice the rubber stretching a little bit. Once it gets a little more noticeable I will ask otterbox to replace it. They have great customer service. I experienced this with the galaxy nexus defender case as well. They sent me 3 replacements before I gave up and settled with the commuter for the nexus.
So long as they continue to send replacements, I'll continue to take advantage of it. Personal opinion they should really make the rubber last longer. My defender for my captivate lasted almost two years before I replaced the phone. The case still fits perfect to this day. Something happened within the last few years with otterboxs rubber casing for the defender. Whatever they have changed since the captivate has not worked out very well.

In addition, if I were to try a different case, it would be the pure gear dual tek case. I've read good things about it!

Otterbox commuter with a brand new one at work still in box. My 2 year old child has chucked my phone over and over without any damage. Otterbox for life!
