[Q] Connecting GN to Mercedes Comand system - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi
Guys I have a 2011 C Class with the Comand system in it. It has internet access which you use using the WAP on your phone once it is connected via Bluetooth to the Comand system. It worked fine with my Galaxy S but now that I have the GN it wont access. Does anyone know why or does anyone know how to fix this.

Are you sure it uses wap and not Bluetooth? Even if you're right and it does use wap, it may be worth checking if there's an option to use Bluetooth and to see if that works. With Bluetooth you'd of course need to pair the car's bt with your phone's.

Hi thanks for your reply according to manual these are the conditions that are necessary for connection.
"the mobile phone supports DUN Bluetooth profile(Dial-Up Networking)and is connected to COMAND via the Bluetooth interface. The DUN Bluetooth enables the mobile phone to establish a dial-up connection to the Internet"
As I said my Galaxy S connected to it fine and enabled the internet connection on the COMAND system.

The only thing I can suggest is that you ensure that your phone's Bluetooth is paired with your car's. If you've already confirmed that it is then then the only other thing that comes to mind is to perhaps try using your phone as mobile hotspot over Bluetooth.
Did you set it up yourself with your other phone or was it set up for you when you bought the car?

Lauk75, I'm sorry but neither of your posts made technological sense. WAP is a protocol by which mobile devices access the internet. Bluetooth is a radio device allowing 2 devices to exchange information, ie audio via a headset or a card between 2 phones.
Onto the problem. Is the comand unit trying to use the SAP protocol? I know androids support of this is fairly limited? Are there any other settings in the head unit you can change? If you tell me if its comand 50,20,10 etc I'll look at the manual for you.

Ah, I wrongly assumed that the problem was with trying to play music from the phone. I see now that it is all about accessing the Internet. My mistake.
Having said that, there is a Bluetooth tethering option on the galaxy nexus, the description of which suggests it is for sharing the phone's Internet connection in a similar way as you would do in normal tethering. That was my second suggestion in my second post above . Perhaps it is worth a try, perhaps not.

thanks for your reply. All I can say about the comand system is that its called COMAND ONLINE. No model number. Its a brand new system that's in the new C Class. As I said my Galaxy S connects the internet to it no prob. It must be to do with ICS maybe. Tried the Bluetooth Tethering mentioned by LAUK 75 (thanks for your reply) but still no luck.

Then I would gather that its an issue with the Bluetooth stack on ics. If your rooted u may want to try a 4.0.3 rom and see if that fixes the issue. Other than that I think ur out of luck. I've not looked but are there any Bluetooth apps in the market, as they may use their own stack/ driver for Bluetooth. (Worth a shot)

On looking, there are two apps in the market which add Bluetooth PAN functions. They may be worth a shot. Search for Bluetooth pan in the market.

Also try an app called PDAnet, which enables Bluetooth DUN profile.

Guys thanks. Tried PDANET but it doesnt load on ICS. Tried Nook Colour tether doesnt work either.

Guys
Can anyone, please have a look at this Thread again. I have still noit been able to use the internet on my mercedes when my Galaxy Nexus is connected to it. I think it's something to do with the Bluetooth settings within ICS.

PDANet for Android seems to be working fine. Make sure you have GPU acceleration turned off in developer settings. In order to access Bluetooth DUN Mode you need to install FoxFi

Hi anton2009, thanks for your response. When I use PDAnet 3.50 and select Bluetooth DUN mode it takes me to Foxfi I then select Activate Bluetooth DUN and it says fail to Activate. Internet not detected.

Hmm... well I thought you would be able to do it without having the PC PDANet component, but apparently you do...? So this would make this quite useless... I guess the only thingI can think of would be the bluetooth tethering option in Wireless Networks, but you already stated that does not work. Sorry.

Guys eventually solved this. An App called Blue Dun available through Google Play has fixed this problem. See line 101
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=16717#c101
I have just spoken with the developer of the app and their is an updated version coming out this week, the new version will be compatible also for Toyota Touch&Go navi, Tom Tom nav. , Clever GPS and BB Playbook.

Tether Dash to Another Phone (TM506)?

OK, this may be a bit naive, especially since T-Mo is rumored to stop tethering on the TM506 in later updates (heaven forbid SIM provisioning), but I would like to tether the Dash to the TM506, like a PC, via BT and only have data on the TM506. I really love my Dash for now and the TM506 has HSPDA 3.5G. Can this be done? Can any additional WM6 software accomplish this?

Find my thread on Bluetooth Dun, it has the software you need, just install it on your T-Mobile Dash to the main memory. If you cannot find it get back with me...........!
Thanks for the quick reply and advice.
I'll search your threads to find the DUN Posts and post back in a few days. So I quess the Dash can dial to T-Mo 3G using the TM506 modem via BT. Great!
I just wonder if there is a way to configure DUN without it eating minutes. Previously, when I set up connection teaming on a laptop with the Dash and a Samsung T409 using DUN, minutes on my plan began to mysteriously get used.
Is it possible to use T-Mo DUN without eating minutes off your plan?

That's a beautiful little Sony phone, I saw it in the T-Mobile store yesterday. I believe it will work, if you cannot find the software, I will PM you a link to the BT dunn software a little bit later. I got to find it also, but I have it.........!
I found it
Look for a PM in the next 10 minutes.........!
The BlueTooth Dunn File
Below is the BT dunn file, install it to the main memory, you still will need the configuration set up.........!

Thanks, I still have it in my downloads from the last time you helped me. I didn't really need it then because my modded Dash had BT DUN enable for PC to Dash modem. Hope it works for Dash to TM506 modem.
Update: I installed the app to main memory but I don't see a program link or folder in program files. I'm guessing something went wrong but the install was reported as successful.

Nothing is wrong, it's there, you will not see anything, but it will work, pair the devices. Let me know how things work out for you....!
Sorry, Techhology but I still can't figure this out. The Bluetooth services of the TM506 only list Input Device and Serial Port. Give me a few more pointers. Thanks.

Print a picture of what you are working with on the Sony TM506, I would love to make this work. Another thing did you get the 2 devices paried.......?
Yes the devices are paired. The TM506 sees these services on the Dash: Object Push, File Transfer, Audio Remote Control and target. The Dash sees these services on the TM506: Input Device and Serial Port.
It appears that the SE PC Suite connects to the TM506 through BT serial port. You can also use BT dial-up networking directly instead of BT serial port.
If it were possible to have the Dash use the BT serial port on the TM506, like the SE PC Suite, then it might work. But I can't find any function in the Dash to do this.
I was also successful in connecting two PC's to the TM506 via BT. One via BT DUN and the other via BT PAN. The PC's had internet but the connections seemed very slow.

Ok, you will not see anything the Dash but the BT dunn file are there. Do you have a BT set up on the TM506?
Somthing tells me this would have been easier with a PPC instead on a Smartphone. GRIN
I can use DUN from a PC to both the TM506 and the Dash just fine. But I can't seem to figure out how to use DUN from the Dash to the TM506.
Many BT profile features on the TM506 are not visible to the Dash. Especially DUN and PAN. The BT serial port is visible but theres no application on the Dash to take advantage of this like the SE PC Suite does.
I've attached a picture of the BT services provided by the TM506 to a PC using the Widcomm BT stack.
Looks like the picture is too small. I'll try to post a better one.
Larger Photo of TM506 BT service to a PC with Widcomm BT Stack. The SE PC Suite uses the Serial Port to connect. Use can also use Dial-Up directly. In the photo I was using PAN - notice the green connected icon.

[Q] Bluetooth DUN client on Android?

Is it possible to use the Desire as a CLIENT for a Bluetooth enabled DUN sharing device? I mean I want to use the Desire without signing up for an other internet contract SIM. Wifi is a solution, but when there is no wifi coverage, it would be really good if I could use my other phone's 3G connection, which can share it over Bluetooth DUN.
What I'm looking at is not tethering, but being a client for a tethered phone. Is there any ROM or app or trick which would make my Desire work as a DUN client?
i'm in the same requirement.
i have an Android tablet with wifi and bluetooth, and i've got a separate 3G/HSPDA phone.
so in the absence of wifi, i want to use my 3G phone (paired with my tablet via BT) and use the phone's connection to surf the web
it's like PC, connected to a phone via bluetooth and use the regular dialup networking to connect to the internet.
any links, reading materials (online) would be great.
thanks
Android + BT DUN
The same trouble: HTC Flyer Wifi cannot use any of BT DUN -enabled phones. It's very unexpected lack in Android.
Same trouble. Galaxy S Android 2.3 cannot use BT Dun enabled phones. Would be very usefull !!!! A lot of people around the web asking for a way to share his blackberry data plan through BT Dun to his Android phone
Me too, Nook Color running CM7 but can't surf anywhere like my iPod tethering through a Nokia phone

[Q] Bluetooth Pairing for Data with GS3?

Can anyone confirm if you can in fact BT pair the Note 8 and the GS3? Unfortunately here in the US it doesn't look like we are getting the "phone" version of the Note 8.
WiFi tethering just chews up too much battery. I'd like to use BT and skim my mobile 4G connection from the GS3. Bandwidth should be fine as both devices have BT2.
Also, if there's a BT push app for text messages that anyone knows of, that would be a nifty find also.
Thanks in advance.
BN
Did you try Open Garden? It uses bluetooth to connect and work just as good as wifi tethering. But only one issue when I used, it could not open youtube file for some reason. Dunno if they fixed.
for what you asked with S3, maybe have to wait other people to answer since I dont own the device.

Bluetooth Not Connecting To My New S4

Is the Bluetooth device compatible? S4's are Bluetooth 4.0 and I don't think they are backwards compatible.

Incorrect. Bluetooth is backwards compatible.
Wunderle, you'll need to post a lot more info than that if you want help troubleshooting. E.g., what kind device(s) are you trying to connect, do they connect to other Bluetooth devices, what steps have you tried, what errors are you getting...

Force bluetooth "phone audio" from nexus 7?

Nexus 7 2013 WiFi
Stock 6.0.1 rooted with Timur's Kernel v4
For some reason when I BT connect my tablet to ANY pioneer head unit (tried 3 so far) I don't get the check box in bluetooth options for "phone audio" . I am using the Verizon messages+ app to make calls and receive texts over wifi Hotspot from my phone. This works amazingly but for some reason I can't get it to route through to the pioneer bluetooth connection. I tried a set of bluetooth headphones and the phone audio checkbox is there and it works flawlessly.
I did some Google searching and searched this sub but don't see anything relating to this problem.
edit: see below for update
Is there a way to force a bluetooth profile to use "phone audio"? Is there a Config file anywhere I can manually edit?
I've tried Bluetooth Auto Connect and choosing the phone audio option for the head unit but it did not change anything.

Sorry should have put that info in the initial post. No, it is the WiFi model.
I would be wifi tethering my phone to get network connectivity. This is a Nexus 7 carputer type build.
Bit of an update though:
Per a website that I cant post a link to until i make 10 posts.... It looks like the nexus 7 2013 lacks the HFP (Hands Free Profile) by default. Now I'm not entirely sure why the bluetooth headset works if this profile is not present other than its possible the headset uses the HSP (Head Set Profile) but I can't seem to find any documentation on if the N7 actually has the HSP.
Through extensive googling, I ended up at posts talking about Bluez bluetooth stack implementation. This is a bit over my head though and cant really find any solid documentation on implementing it on Stock 6.0.1
I also ended up getting directed to the source.android page that mentions at the bottom:
Custom Bluetooth profiles - If you want to add Bluetooth profiles that do not have HAL interfaces provided by Android, you must supply an SDK add-on download to make the profile available to app developers, make the APIs available in the Bluetooth system process app (packages/apps/Bluetooth), and add them to the default stack (system/bt).

But like I said, this is over my head.
Anyone with any sort of experience give me some insight?
