Nobody can answer your question creditably, yet.
I’m not sure if you’re trying to bring up another debate about Vibrant vs G2 thread on purpose or unintentionally but provided you have a Vibrant, I can guess that you are in-secure about your Vibrant
im sure the gpu in the galaxy s is unmatched,
as far as the processor goes; im not sure... my $ is on the hummingbird lol
I have a feeling both will tie out. In real world scenarios, I don't think any of them will be noticeably better. Of course, I can be wrong, all we can do is wait for the phone to come out.
While we are all guessing,
I would say that the CPUs are probably a draw between the Hummingbird in the Galaxy S and the Scorpion in the G2.
The GPU in the Galaxy S is most likely a little bit more powerful than the GPU in the G2.
The real question is what will the real world performance difference be?
Will the performance advantages of 2.2 be big enough to make the G2 perform better than the Galaxy running 2.1 (my guess is it will). Also how much performance will be noticeable in daily use? The app drawer opens quicker on the Mytouch Slide than on the Vibrant, even though the Vibrant hardware is more powerful.
its all in the drivers, specs wise the vibrant is more powerful but samsumg sucks when it comes to compiling for android, my bet is the htc vision will be way faster just because they know how to utilize the hardware

Hmmm, that does make a lot of sense.. Similar to manufacturers optimizing drivers for desktop hardware..
Typos and other gibberish courtesy of Swype via Vibrant.
just played with an oc'd vibrant with the lag fix
omfg it smokes! its super responsive too
yes but it's not fair to compare that to a stock G2, if you wanna compare phones you have to compare them on the same level(STOCK) if not then you are comparing apples and oranges.
you can't say that the vibrant is faster because you overclocked the processor and applied a lag fix but then left the G2 running 80MHz on stock firmware. i will bet that on stock firmware G2 will win because HTC has always made better phones, and the GPU isn't being wasted on that pretty screen and is instead being used to do stuff people care about(not lagging out on minor apps). wait till the phone comes out and compare them side by side while running stock on both
Yup, I'm pretty sure that on Stock G2 will win.

and if you overclock it to 1.2 GHZ it will kill the noobingbird processor
GPU proformence..... huming bird probably barrrrrrrrrreeely works, although touchwiz may take some performance out
With jit enabled on 2.2.... I doubt anyone can really see a diff
But the Vibrant comes pre-loaded with Avatar!! :O
No but really, I returned my Vibrant and am waiting for the G2 to hit the shelves.
I had my vibrant running a vanilla android rom and I loved how big the screen was, but I didn't like how much like an iPhone it was, so I bricked it (accidently) and took it back and the silly GPS issues of course, ugh, that was irritating!

Although I agree with you about the apples to oranges comparison, it is still a valid comparison because the Vibrant comes out of the box with TouchWiz and the G2 comes out of the box with vanilla android. Probably the most interesting comparison would be:
-Vibrant w/ TouchWiz (out of the box)
-Vibrant w/ vanilla (custom ROM of your choice)
-G2 w/ vanilla (T-mo's build)
-G2 w/ vanilla (custom ROM but the same one as for Vibrant, for example Cyanogen on both)
but since cyanogenMOD is not on vibrant(and no one really knows when it will be) and we know it will hit the G2 we can't do a fair comparison yet, since your normal everyday tmo customer is not going to root the phone, they would be comparing it as stock out of the box vibrant vs. stock out of the box G2. i still think that since the G2 will run vanilla android vs. touchwiz the G2 will win, especially since the GPU won't be taxed as hard trying to power that overkill of a screen on the vibrant. 3.7 inch lcd screen is more than enough for me 4.0 SAMOLED is a bit overkill, step down the SAMOLED to SLCD and it would be ok.
i also believe that 4.3 inches is freaking huge for a screen and there is no need for it.
back on topic though we will find out in what 2 weeks? i think we can wait just a little longer

Hey we aren't every day users. We're XDA users. So... This is about us, not 'them'
Ok, I am in a dilema...
I had the N1, I switched to Sprint for the Epic because I wanted a nice android phone with a qwerty. Now Tmo decides to introduce the G2, and now I am stuck trying to decide between the Epic and the G2. I have until Thursday to return the Epic if I decide to switch to the G2.....

IMO, G2. Has more internal memory as well.

im in a similar situation, but its not a dilemma really, because the epic has bad reception for sprint, and even worse for 4g. sprints 4g speeds barely scratch the speedtest speeds i got on my vibrant and n1, and i have to fight with it (hold it different ways, go outside, etc) to get it to keep a connection in an area to which sprints coverage map says has "indoor" 4g coverage. get the g2, sprints 4g network is so far a joke.
Hello everyone,
I am a current evo 3d user who is purchasing the touch tomorrow (and giving the 3d to my financee).
Why am I purchasing the 4g touch. We all know it is a fast phone, it is great, etc, etc.
1) I want a phone that is fast, and great out of the box. I don't want to have to root it, overclock it, etc to make myself feel like I got my money's worth. The epic 4g touch will accomplish this (not saying I won't root it, or flash roms, I always do ).
2. I want a phone that is future proof. I want to be happy with the performance of my phone a year from now. I have yet to have a phone accomplish this, and I don't have the money to swap phones every 6 months (though I wish I did). I believe the epic 4g touch will be future proof...even for an entire upgrade cycle.
3. I want a great screen. The evo 3d didn't have this...and that is inexcusable for a "superphone" that cost as much as a good laptop. The epic 4g touch arguably has the best screen in the market at the moment.
4. Touchwize 4.0 looks pretty damn sweet
What do you guys think? Why are you buying the phone?
Also, for those who have the phone, how is the screen? Is the resolution lacking on such a big screen? How would you rate the phone for viewing pdf's....etc?
I am a graduate student, I need a phone I can read on .

This phone stock blows a rooted and overclocked 3d out the water. I just switched from the 3d and its better times 10.
Better signal. Better screen...even at lower resolution ..exynos core is a BEAST..plays n64 games on emulator stock smoother than overclocked evo. Better cameras..better speakers...this thing screams dude. And most of all...its a GREAT PHONE before anything. Great call quality..stronger reception than the 3d. If your on the fence..jump man..it's worth it
sent from my damn EPIC TOUCH 4G!!!!
Sounds like good reasons to me. The E3D is a great phone but I think this one is a little better all the way around.
I feel like the hdmi out would make up for the lack of a high res screen (even though it doesnt look any different from one that does). Just plus that sucker up to a cheap 10 inch hd TV and your set imo.

How much of a sore spot is not having TV Out on the original Epic? People go nuts over it whenever the thread gets bumped. If the WVGA screen uses any less battery than qHD then I can't think of anything I would complain about. I purchased 2 movies from Media Hub and, I am dead serious, the clarity is every bit as good as my 1080 HDTV...and that's on my Epic. I can't wait to see the same flix on the ET4G tomorrow since the screen is supposed to be a little better even. Power and battery life seem great from reviews, Improved Touchwiz..ok, I will give it a real chance. I can honestly see myself running rooted stock and not complaining abou it while waiting for the real goodies to get baked.

I'm coming from the Epic 4g and I loved that phone. I told myself I wouldn't upgrade until I found a true successor. With everything I have read about the E4gt i'm hoping this is the one. Plus I loved the developers for the Epic 4G and i'm hoping they come along to this phone as well!
I'm buying it because I know it's a beast of a phone that I'm going to fall in love with and appreciate for a very long time like i did my Evo was for it's time. But actually I am also buying a Samsung this time around because believe it or not, Apple is filing litigation against them. That unfortunately has become my litmus test of great products to come. As you can probably tell, I hate apple with a passion. Whoever Apple's suing the most at any given point will receive my business.
I am.... maybe buying it depending on Nexus Prime news or lack of Nexus Prime news over the next 4 weeks.
The deciding factors for me are:
1) The performance of the Processor and Video Processing. yes benchmarks doesn't fully tell the truth, but with out tweaking anything the numbers its putting it out is mind blowing. 90mflops with over 3000!!! Look at the gaming number too!!! next to the photon its a Tachyon!!
2) The Camera sensor. the only device to record at 1080p!!!! What is wrong with HTC and Motorola? why cant they contend with that ability. Its not a Android software issue. if the EVO 3D had DUAL 8MP EVO cameras at least then the EVO 3D would have had more stomping ground. More megapixels does mean a sharper image when sized down to smaller resolutions, to get real 35mm photo quality images digitally you need around 20 megapixels to equal the same sharpness and depth of analog camera quality. so in Digital Megapixel world less means LESS, yes the sensor may matter, but still digital needs more pixels to equal analog quality.
3) Battery Life. So far the reviews for Sept 15th are confirming that the battery life is better than the other 2 contenders.
4) THE SCREEN. 4.5 inches of pure bliss beauty. I cant wait to see the Samsung NOTE Super AMOLED HD 5 inch screen!!!!! too bad they couldnt have a higher resolution on the AMOLED + to the 960 x 540. Really I want the Samsung NOTE over the Epic now, but it looks like Sprint might not get it as in the specs doesn't show CDMA, still could mean a version for sprint may come out of the molds..
5) Software abilities, Yes Sense 3.0 still has amazing features that wont be copied, but then from the new motion sensing feature of Touchwiz looks promising. it was about time they used the motion/extra sensors to input with the software. Really I want full customization of any animated features for ALL phones, if you want a specific animated software feature, you should not be limited to only certain things per manufactures decision only be limited by the main operating system. If you want the cool Carousel feature of the main menu, Sense UI should not be the only one to have it. Heck having the carosel feature with shaking the Epic touch left or right with out using your finger would be KILLER. I also like the cube conveyor belt like feature of the Apps selection on the Nexus S. I have a few other animated features I want to see implemented that I saw with Ubuntu since android is based off of linux kernel, majority of all the Ubuntu like animated features could work on it. all in all the new software features is a serious worthiness.

Aside from the GPS, Samsung pretty much nailed the hardware in the Galaxy S line. Their Hummingbird based hardware blew away it's contemporaries, and the SAMOLED screen drew raves (although the pentile matrix display was docked points by some for the screen door effect and fuzzy text). But the software wasn't on the same level. Touchwiz 3.0 was not the greatest skin in the world.
The reason I'm getting the Epic Touch is because Samsung continued its hardware domination this generation, fixed GPS, went RGB stripe with the SAMOLED Plus screen, and, more importantly, worked very hard to make the software work on the same level as HTC's Sense skin. The result is arguably the best phone on the market (screen size preferences being the biggest deciding factor) and for what I look for in a phone, easily blows away it's nearest competitor. I am very, very happy that I decided to forgo the Evo 3D to wait indefinitely for the S2. Thank god it's here now, and thank god they moved to the 4.52" screen. The Epic Touch is basically my dream phone.

Anyone else considering this switch? Or perhaps another switch (Photon?)?
I love the amount of development and support for the Evo, but I can only assume the Epic Touch will eventually receive it too.
Feel free to share thoughts and all that stuff!

What do you think will be your deciding factor? Is there something/feature you prefer over one than the other?
I'm always weary about samsung and their support. But that's just my experience with the vibrant when I was on T-Mobile. They both seem like nice phones though. Personally I think I'm gonna stick with htc phones.
We're comin from a pure power source.

I guess my hope there is reliability in developers. After rooting the Evo I think using a device without 'full access' would be frustrating.
Based on my Sammy experience in addition to my wife's Epic and friend's Epic, I'll probably not own a Samsung phone again for a very, very long time.

No questions asked....get the Galaxy S II. If you can't decide, trade it in, send it to me, say yours got stolen, replaced with insurance. Win-win situation.
I was considering this switch but I'm not sure the SGS2 has anything substantial to offer me for $200 and a 2 year contract extension.
According to pdadb.net comparison:
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer&id1=2932&id2=3041&id3=2233
The only real advantage I can see is the processor. SGS2 has dual core 1200 MHz, EVO has single core 1000 MHz (but I have mine overclocked to 1200 MHz). I don't ever seem to be waiting on my EVO to finish tasks or feel it is too slow, so I'm not sure why a dual core processor is needed.
The SGS2 has a bigger screen, but still 480x800. I understand it is Super AM-OLED, vs the EVO 4G color transflective TFT, but I'm not sure that I care about that. I mostly use my phone indoors and have no problems with the dispaly.
It also comes with 16GB onboard, but I already have a 32GB uSD in my EVO.
Radio speeds are the same, EVDO-A and WiMAX.
Cameras are the same 8MP.
SGS2 does 1080p video out vs EVO 720p video out, but I almost never use the video out.
So unless I'm missing something, the SGS2 is not that big a difference for my $200 and 2 year extension.
Likewise the Moto Photon. Advantages, dual core 1000 MHz and 540 x 960 resolution. And GSM world phone possible. GSM is not needed for me either.
I think I'll hang on to my renewal discount and see what comes out in the next 6 months. Perhaps the Nexus Prime will make its way over to Sprint?
Hey guys. I bring greetings from the vibrant forums. I was wanting some opinions from s2 owners. Currently I have a vibrant and I'm very familiar with some of the devs here. I have an upgrade available to me. My question is, is this phone worth an upgrade.? Of course I'd root and install a new rom. So with the new rooms, how's the overall performance of the phone? Smoothness and speed? I'm not that worried about benchmark scores. Or would you guys suggest holding off til next year and wait for the next big thing? Thanks.
It's dual 1.5Ghz, what do you think it'll feel like? A droid Eris?

The Galaxy S II is definitely worth the upgrade over the Vibrant. The only part where the Vibrant shine is that it has excellent development compared to the GSII and that is mainly because the GSII is a newer device.
I've owned 2 Vibrants in the past and I can honestly say that after owning the GSII I do not miss the Vibrant not even for a second although it was a great phone at the time minus the GPS issues and lack of a camera flash.

*chuckle* ask a question in this forum and your ensured to get at least one honest answer and at least one smart assed answer.
I also came from the Vibrant and within minutes of using the SGSII felt that it is the phone that Samnsung should have made the Vibrant be. The SGSII is much snappier, the GPS works reliably and the screen is just enough bigger that I don't mind using it to do some light web surfing.
Am sure there are some issues (there's a long thread on how bad the screen sucks but I really don't find that issue very noticeable on mine) and there is Samsung/TMobile's history of not being very quick to release updates (we're still waiting on the WiFi calling app which I believe was promised to be available at launch).
Bottom line - it's a hell of a phone and, imho, the best one available on TMobile. The only other phone I might choose over it is the Galaxy Nexus and I'm not going to jump ship to get one...
...whew. Now, go forth and by an SGSII, use it and if you like it, keep it. If not then take it back in the first 14 days and exchange it for something else

I think that was the joke they were making. Although I hate how that is always peoples' response. It's a legitimate question if you haven't been keeping up on what else is about to come out. Not that people knew it was going to happen, but a lot of us were upset when the SGS4g came out right after the Vibrant, when it was announced if someone asked if they should get the phone I think most would agree to hold off.
However in this case I doubt we will see a SGS3 for close to a year since it hasn't been released over seas yet and then we get to wait another 6 months before they finally grace us with it. I am currently trying to talk myself out of waiting or ordering the GN from over seas.
Best Buy has it on sale for $149.99 no rebate!!!!
Very happy with this phone. i previously had a Samsung admire from metropcs which turned out to be totally inadequate .
The admire ran stock gingerbread with no touchwiz which was really its only nice feature. personally, i don't see why everyone complains about touchwiz.. There's no way it slows down the phone to a greater extent than HTC sense with all its bloated animations, and it does have a few useful tweaks.
Id suggest purchasing an sgs2.

If you want to have jellybean as soon as its released keep gnex for now otherwise you can get one x.but keep in mind that there is nothing that one x can do and your nexus cant.atleast for now.just slower
Also you might want to see what samsung brings on the table

I sold my AT&T note yesterday to get a unlocked Galaxy Nexus. Thought about getting a one X but I mean a almost $800 unlocked price is a bit crazy for a HTC I think.
Plus I never used a HTC and even though sense 4.0 looks cool I'm not a big fan. I Bought a nexus to get the pure ICS experience without a overlay.
If anything wait for the Galaxy S3 if your gonna drop $800. Oh and beats by Dre mehhhhhhh. I'm not 18 lol.

huh? Try mid to high $600's. Don't think they'd put their pre-order price like $150 too low. https://negrielectronics.com/htc-one-x-32gb-unlocked-white.html#.T34Bcr9WoVc

Probably a good idea.
OP, no one can tell you what to do. And you know people here are biased to the GNex.
Two words.....Jelly Bean! But no worries, you'll get it next year! Lol

The way I see it the cons are:
- slow updates from HTC
- no Super AMOLED screen
- Sense
- bloatware apps
- capacitive buttons (may be a - or + for you)
- power button on the top (personally I like it on the side, good for people with smaller hands too)
- non removable battery
and you don't get the awesome multicolored notification light on the Galaxy Nexus.
No Super Amoled Screen
After using a Super Amoled screen I can't use anything else!

It's made by HTC?
(This is my reason not to get it, which is more than reason enough.)

You shouldn't be so quick to bash the SLCD2 on the new HTC's. Its being regarded as the best screen out there right now. Laminated (no gap), better viewing angles, better colors, and almost as deep of blacks as AMOLED, but full RGB 720P.

LOL. No joke. I had an Evo 4G and a G2, both of which had poor build quality (good materials shakily put together) and needed replacement (G2 once, the Evo several times over). Got my GNex and its solid and well built. I always found it funny that people regarded HTC for their build quality and I never thought they were miles ahead or anything, especially based on my experiences.
HTC has apparently stepped up its game on these models, though.

My fault. When I was looking a few days back a few places had them at around $760 or something. The non removable battery is a big deal on a android device usually because of the phones power and screen. Well really with any phones now of days including the 4S. Now the iPhone 4 had awesome battery life. But that besides the point.
I'd say hold off.

Actually, you should be our guinea pig and buy one. Then you can let us know +'s/-'s of the two.
I would get the HTC ONE because of the sexy hardware. Yeah people will say it sucks having HTC 4.0 sense but who cares. Custom roms will take care of that and alot of software issues which can always be altered. When hardware on smartphones can not.
IMO why not to get the One X, because you will regret it when the SGS3 drops.
Normally I don't like the “there is going to be something better" mentality, but the SGS3 is literally around the corner. At least hold off until we know more about the SGS3

I don't know about the others, but my HTC Droid Incredible was solid. Still have it and it's still a well built phone. Regardless, I'd stick with the Nexus or wait for the SIII.
the only feature i like in the ONE x is the 4 frames per second feature in the camera. but our phone camera is still quite fast.

Ah, I guess I will have to go see the SLCD2 for myself when the One phones finally hit. Have you heard anything about the screen's drain on the battery? AMOLED is supposed to be more battery sufficient isn't it?
And I agree on the HTC build quality. The materials they use are usually excellent, but on some of their phones the actual quality of the build leaves something to be desired. The only thing I see people disliking the most on Samsung phones is the plastic they use. I haven't heard any complaints on the actual quality of the build though.

AMOLED is actually not always so frugal on battery. It only does well when you have a dark UI or dark background (because individual pixels can turn off). It actually drains very high when you use high brightness levels. SLCD2 isn't going to be any better or worse I don't think. It's still going to be the largest drain by far on your device, especially at 720P and 4.7".
The way I see it, if u keep waiting for the "next better phone",you're gonna be waiting infinite amount of time because you'll hear information on a phone like the One X (for example) and when that comes out there will be info on the s3 and then you'll wanna wait for that, and then when that comes around to being released, the new Nexus will be rumored and you'll wanna wait for that and so on and so forth....pointless! Just buy a phone and use it! If u want the next one, sell yours and pay the difference! IMO, the smart thing to do is stick with a nexus if you're not into bloatware and plus development will be booming with every nexus! So many factors come in to buying a new phone, it sucks but cell phones are ruling the world right now!
And yeah I know quad core is all the rage but I've said it before and I'll say it again, these phones can't get any faster in terms of transitions and such lol! Yeah you'll notice on benchmarks and hardcore games, but that's what the ps3 and 360s are for (and ps4 and 720 next year) and get real! Nobody will care that your phones scores higher on a benchmark than someone else's if their running the same damn software!
