Rooting your device will invalidate your warranty. However, rooting is a temporary feature; there is no way to 'unroot , the only way to get back to a device without root is to flash a stock ROM. So, if you needed to return a device on warranty, you can flash back a stock ROM first and it should be fine.
Backing up/freezing stock apps with Titanium Backup should be fine.

If i Root my phone will i lose all my install apps and their settings?
No, attaining root will not do that.
What about downgrading from 1.72 ?
That part, yes. You will lose everything.
damn....
Thanks for the quick replies btw
Is there a way to backup all my apps/settings?
& How easy it is to put my phone back to stock/unrooted?
Once you have root you can use Titanium Backup to backup apps & their settings, then restore these later. Titanium backup needs root.
To return to a HTC Virgin state, stock & unrooted, your best bet is to use an official HTC RUU (ROM Update Utility). Just ensure you use the correct one.
Thanks again.
The only problem is i've got to downgrade before i get root.
So there's no way i can back everything up without root?
There may be ways and apps that can do this, I just don't know.
If you search the market with the term "backup" you may find apps that do not require root.
Seems like your stuck in a catch 22.
I did the downgrade method, and used mybackup for backup. It restored all of my contact informasion and almost all of my programs. Remember that android market will download all of your programs after a reinstall. If you use a htc sync account, you will get your wlan passwords too.
Hi Guys,
I recently got my Xperia Arc, and I love it, however it has a Chinese keyboard app on it, amongst others (Let's Golf, youku etc) and I cannpt uninstall them via the applications section.
All options are greyed out and there is no uninstall option regardless.
Is there anyway to get rid of these?
Thanks
PLEASE use the search feature first. It's there for a reason.
Anyway, you need to root your phone. Install Titanium Backup and you'll be able to remove all the unwanted stuff from your phone.
Once again, please do use the search. It'll help you to answer the questions which you've got after reading this reply. LOL!
Thanks for the reply and suggestion.
I did search, however it was most likely far too specific.
Furthermore, I understand I have to root the phone before I can use Titanium backup.
Is this a risk, can it brick the phone? Is it illegal to do so? Is this the equivilent of a iphone jailbreak?
I don't want to do anything illegal, I just want to get rid of some apps that are annoying.
vaibhavknockout answered all your question. Its the first topic in Xperia Arc General forum!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133650
urgh I am confused about it all.
I don't know if I want to risk doing it, I still don't understand it.
Basically I want to get rid of the chinese apps.
I have an Xperia Arc with 2.3.3.
I live in Australia but have the Hong Kong version of the phone.
I understand I can unlock it via bootloader and I will need to root it to be able to install Titanium Backup which will uninstall the apps.
But can I just install the UK or Global image/rom and that will load it as if I got the phone from the UK/Global?
Rooting your phone isn't illegal nor is it going to void your warranty. You don't have to unlock the bootloader for rooting.
Do refer to [Guide] All in one 'Namaste guide' to Bootloader unlocking, Rooting, Flashing & more.
You can flash a generic 2.3.2 ROM (or UK if you prefer), then root using Gingerbreak and then upgrade OTA (Over The Air) to the 2.3.3 ROM and you'll still retain root.
Using Gingerbreak is simple and straight forward. Do note that Gingerbreak won't work on 2.3.3 and hence the need to root on 2.3.2 and then update OTA to 2.3.3 and still retain root.
There's a free version of Titanium Backup on the market. It requires root access to work. And it should help you get rid of the stuff which you don't require.
Hope this helps! And LOL! Use the thanks button to show your gratitude
[Q] How To BackUp&Restore arc S Stock Firmware before Rooting to Preserve Warranty
Found this similar post for Galaxy S2 but I need the instructions for Xperia Arc S.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366485
Phone Details:
Model number: LT18i
Android version 2.3.4
Build number 4.0.2.A.0.42
Kernel version 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1
Phone is unrooted, Bootloader locked , everything is exactly how it came from shop (stock).
Question 1
My phone is in Warranty (is bought from Vodafone Romania) and I would like to root my phone, but i want to backup the stock firmware completly before all this process in case I ever want to reverse process ,or get my phone back to its old state like it came
I would also need to know how to restore this backup/unroot/flash/whatever the phone in case I need to send it to repair. I saw in the thread posted upper in this post a reply from sxi200 who said something about " use a download mode jig to reset counter to hide flashing" . I would also like to know about this method if it's needed or not in order to preserve warranty.
Thank you in advance.
best way is to flash your country's firmware..or else u can install cwm-installer and backup your stock rom in recovery..
Where can I find the firmware for my country or where can I find a tutorial of how I can install cwm-installer and backup my stock rom in recovery.
And if I use cwm-installer will I need to reset counter to hide flashing when I will use the backup?
Sorry if the questions are silly I'm just starting to learn those things.
U wont lose ur warranty by rooting u will lose it if u unlock your bootloader
Hi folks,
after a couple of hours spent reading the forum gaining many valuable info from tutorials, etc. - one important question remains for me:
How do I do a full backup of my Xperia Pro before I start modding / rooting it? There is no stock recovery console, right?
I do not intend to unlock the bootloader as this seems to be not fully reversible (DRM keys get lost)...
If a full backup is impossible - what is the best backup option / compromise?
After that, I want to root and then remove bloatware. I'm still on GB 2.3.4, build 4.0.2.A.0.69. Will switch to stock ICS later, presumably next year.

There is no need to backup if you just wish to root as long as you ensure that everything is done properly and you don't end up messing up your software. That's a different story if you wish to change to a custom ROM though. What you want to do is back up important stuff like your messages and contacts. To do those, you can use any app found on the Android market. Titanium backup is a good option, though I don't use it myself. Files on your SD card will not be touched, so there's no need to worry on that count.

There are recoveries that work on locked bootloader. You can use them to backup everything on the NAND. Or like the person above me said you can use applications to backup specific things like Messages, etc.
Thanks!
I finally decided to upgrade to ICS before rooting and because this procedure involves flashtool, I found out that flashtool is able to restore kernel and system partition with locked boot loader.
Now, my phone is rooted and I finally was able to backup and clean it up with Titanium Backup which I already had a license for...
Another tool that I discovered: X-Parts! It allows to boot into CWM with boot loader still locked... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pvy.CWMinstaler&hl=de I know that it is not as fail proof as CWM installed via boot loader, but it is still better than nothing...
Hi, i have a stock 5T with locked bootloader (i know, i should have it unlocked when i get the phone), and i'm on stock oxygen OS 9.0.4 with no issues. I want to Root the phone mainly for a proper working GCam with fixes etc. I'm concerned about losing my data and i want to make a perfect backup easy restorable, to bring back the phone to this exact status with all apps and apps data.
I have a Oneplus One and with that i was using titanium backup pro wich is perfect for this. If i root my phone with methods like KingRoot, so without flashing recovery or unlocking the bootloader i can make a good backup with TI, and then wipe phone flash TWRP and restore it? i will face any problem? are theese root methods safe? Help
