Having a problem programming my phone. - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I went through the process of changing my number through Verizon's website, and I am having problems programming my phone. I did *228 and hit 1 to reprogram and everything went fine. "Programming... SPL Unlocked" with the background music, then the automated voice telling me to please wait while my phone is being programmed.. then 5 seconds or so later my phone makes this stuttering noise like the phone is lagging and then it just shuts off and restarts.
I am not able to to program the phone successfully and I have no idea what it could be. My phone is unlocked and rooted with the Virtuous Affinity ROM.
If anyone could help me out I would really appreciate it. My phone is useless and I need it to function asap. The only thing I could think to do next is a hard reset, but I don't know what kind of implications that would have or if it's even necessary.
Thanks.

I have to sometimes set the CDMA Options/System select to "Home Only" other wise I get a recording telling me to enter an area code with this number.
If you can dial ##778# Send and access the menu for setting up all the data settings, you will need to call VZW from another line or a land-line.
Just be sure to have the stock software version handy to tell them "Oh here it says version 5.10.605.9".
The data settings will stick between flashing ROMs.
You might need to suggest to them to reset your "A" key (Authentication Key).
Tech support is open 24-7 so use it, They get tired of hearing me telling them what their screen shows.
If all else fails, do a nandroid and hard reset.
If your in a fringe area like I am, set the CDMA Options/System select to "Home Only" and do the *22899 send and if that doesn't fix it then get the tech rep back on the line, hop the hoops and do the ##778# Send and put in Home SID/NID and all the rest.
I usually use QPST to backup my data settings but the last time switched phones I forgot that the A Key is ESN specific, so I needed to have it reset.
Good luck..

Can't get migrated xv6800 back onto Verizon network

What started out as an effort to get my migrated XV6800 to operate on Verizon's data network has taken a nasty turn for the worse... Here is the long, sordid story, and I would really appreciate help in getting this device back onto the Verizon network.
This was originally a Qwest phone. I unlocked it and flashed it with a Verizon ROM, the file name is _Verizon XV6800_RUU_TITAN_VZW_WWE_3.57.605.1_RS_TITAN_3.37. 75_OM_VZW_ShipFULL. After I did that the customization routines did not run. Frankly, I don't know if they were supposed to or not, but they didn't.
I couldn't get the phone to connect to the Verizon network, even on *228. Eventually I applied a PRL and then I was able to connect to *228, and option #3 got the phone onto the voice network. I used it as my cell phone for two weeks with no issues on the voice network. Still, I wasn't able to get data working.
These are the things I tried while troubleshooting the data issue:
* Loaded the carrier cab from DCD
* Forced a CDMA only connection to download new keys
* Loaded the newest Verizon ROMs I found while at their website (this is the first time I saw customization routines)
* Told Verizon to switch me from pay as you go data to unlimited data (though it looks like they never turned this on)
* Tried activating my PDA with a different Verizon number, and then re-activating it with my original Verizon number
* Did a hard reset
It's those last two steps that screwed me. After I swapped the number off the phone I wasn't able to get it back. I could get to option #3, but it wouldn't let me activate the phone. Their tech support is no help and they are shocked when they look back at my account history and see that I was able to use *228 to get this phone on their network two weeks ago.
I then did a hard reset and got myself all the way back to the point where I was before I manually put the PRL in place. When I dial *228 I get the following: "Your account is not authorized to make calls to this phone number. I you would like to have additional capabilities added to your account please call customer service. Message 4, swich 691". I'm guessing that installing a PRL on the phone will now let me use option #3, because that's what made it work last time. However, I'm looking for instructions since I messed up somewhere in the process last time.
I just tried the following, but I get a recording saying they are unable to activate my phone at this time and then it tried to connect me to a person.
1. Install PRL
2. Install carrier cab
3. Install MMS cab
4. Run *228, #3
I know the person is just going to tell me that they can't help because their system doesn't recognize the ESN.
So what's the verdict, can I expect to get this phone back onto the voice network, will it ever work on the data network? Any help that anyone can offer in resolving this would be greatly appreciated.
Wrong forum? Should this have gone into upgrades?
moved thread by request of OP as Q&A forum did not provide answers nor does the OP expect it to.
Best regards,
Flar
Since being able to dial *228, have you called customer service to pull a new key for your device? When I upgraded a xv6800 rom I was not able to dial *228 until I did that. It was a bit of work getting it to pull the new key, but they did it. They first walked me through a manual registration process, then I think they tried to push it through and that worked.
Is your phone a Verizon phone? The pickle I'm in is that mine is not. When they ask me for the ESN they say it's unrecognized and that's pretty much it. They say they can't help me get it on the network because it's not a Verizon phone.

Yep mine is a verizon phone. I am wondering if this is a new implementation, because I have flashed several roms before and never had to call them to get my phone activated until about a month ago. When you dial *228 does it allow you to do a phone programing, I think it is option 1?
No. 1, 2, & 3 all fail. I just called tech support again, hoping getting a new A key would resolve this. He told me he couldn't give me an A key unless the phone's ESN was in the system and the only way to get it in there is through *228, #3... Kind of a Catch 22.
His last suggestion was that I activate a different PDA on my number and see if maybe the computer is choking because my current phone isn't a PDA, and this one is. Kind of sounds like clutching at straws, but he said at this point I've done all that can be done, short of that.
I find really odd, and extremely frustrating, that I can't find anyone else who has been through this with a non-Verizon phone.

stupid ? Verizon activation

Just finished playing with my new 6900 and want to activate it (GPS seems to be working even with the cdma antenna off). I don't know if it's because I'm not in my home area or because they are onto the custom rom but activation fails by *228,2 *228,1 *228,3 (followed by *228,1) and even by typing the esn into the website. This is a brand new unactivated phone. The fail message says to call customer service. Are they going to realize it's a custom rom?

Nah, just tell em you recently flashed the 6.1 ROM update, or you Master Reset the phone and even after *228 you can't get the phone to authenticate calls. They will re-establish it in the system and you'll be good to go.

Gave them a call. The woman I spoke to had me dial ##778 which didn't work (because of nfsfans's dialer app that came with his 6.5 package, I guess).
Any thoughts?

Try ##778# that should do it. Or you can go in to your file explorer and under the windows folder run the EPST.ink

I should have updated the thread... I figured out the ##778# thing this morning but then the password was not 000000 so I had to run getspc.exe to retrieve it. Now, they've gone through the manual set up and, with them doing a couple things on their end, I'm HALFWAY (maybe 1/3) there:
(1) the phone dials but thinks it's roaming (and this mght have something to do with *228 not working...)
(2) Data connection does not work. I recall seeing how to fix this (it is missing some password info or something) and am looking for the thread now... (if someone knows where it is I'd be much obliged) .
I've made 3-4 calls to verizon now, each but the last ending suddenly when they suggested I do a hard reset.
Truthfully, I swear there's some issue with my account that requires voodoo everytime I need to activate a phone. This was my first custom rom but on two different numbers with a handful of pda phones, I can't remember the last time an activation was smoothly. A phone on my other line was roaming mysteriously for a while too and only remedied when I activated a new one.
Thanks all!

[Q] Question about switching between 2 smartphones

My Story
I recently switched from the Incredible to the Droid 2 global to give it a try. Don't worry I got it for free thanks to the deal that Verizon is running about buy one get one of the same. *Upgraded a family member so I took the free one as I thought what the hell*
Now I've played around with this phone for 1 and 1/2 days so far and I'm not liking the battery life. I rather not return the phone as it was free and so I was thinking if I could just keep it as a backup that would be great.
Now my question is can I switch between the phones without going into the store? I want to activate my incredible again for a while since it got better battery life. *and before you ask, yes I've spent at least the last 15 hours using it like I did my other phone but still the battery was drained faster*
Now I have done a google search already about this topic and found this so far.
http://www.ehow.com/how_5046976_switch-phones-easily-verizon-wireless.html
Has anyone here done this before? I'm not looking to change anything about my services other than the phone. Both phones are smart phones and thus I don't see a problem but I figured I would ask the all mighty people here.
I just call verizon and they do it for me.
Its very simple just call them up and they ask for the codes off the new phone and your set. I believe you can do it right off the website as well.
Eh well I have 1 problem with calling them. I only have my cell as my phone. So I can't call them on the phone that will be deactivated. I'm looking at this as saving me time from having to deal with going to the store or from having to call them.
I'm just worried that since I'm on a contract that I would be locked to this specific phone unless I upgrade again.
Bump
Anyone else done this before?
There's a couple of approaches (or maybe many more I haven't thought of):
1) Do you have a computer (not a phone)? If so, can you just use Skype or some such thing to call them at their 800 number or whatever it is? Then you can shut off the phone.
2) I have an old droid 1 and a dinc. I switch between them by shutting off the dinc, and turning on the droid, typing *228 and that's that. Reversing the process works as well. No one asks for the MEIN/ID, but once I had a small contract screwup where I had a replacement phone I'd forgotten about, and I was asked for the MEIN (is that the right acronym?) , and had to yank the back off to find it and give it to them. It is also in 'about phone' but the phone has to be on.
---
So none of that may be useful to you unless you have access to a computer and skype (or an equivalent).
Good luck -
So you say you can just turn off one phone and *228 on your deactivated phone and that will automatically switch which phone is active at the time?
Yes, I can do that as long as the original paperwork on each phone really matches what they have in their computers.
For example, I mentioned that one phone was broken and replaced early on, and I had to call them to change to that one, but once I'd done that call, I could just use the *228 to change.
It sure doesn't hurt to try it.

Ah cool well both phones match the paper work on my account as I own both and they had both been activated before on my account so I will give it a try and see what happens. If this works then I will be very happy as I can just switch back and forth all I want.
Just tried that and it didn't work. As soon as I tried it asked me to enter the phone number that I was trying to activate.
I think this does have to be done via the website first. I would love to hear some someone that has tried the instructions that I linked above.
I do this on a monthly basis. When u dial *228 from the phone u want to use press 1 for program. When prompted enter phone number with area code that u want on that phone. If your act has a password u may be prompted to enter that or the last 4 digits of the act holders social security number. When it goes through, may take up to 10 min u will get programming complete. Dial *228 again then select 2 to unlock prl and update roaming. Pm me if u need further help. Peace.

Stop the Sprint programming tool?

So this is an odd question, but I have the first Samsung Epic working just fine. I dial *228 on that phone and no problem, programs just fine after I dial "1". Whenever I dial *228 on the Epic 4g Touch it goes through Sprint's "programming" screen and won't let me bring up the keyboard so I can "press 1". Is there some way to stop this from auto-poopping up and just have the normal dialer STAY on the screen (like the samsung epic)? Deleted SprintAndroidExtension.apk already, which is what I usually have to do on my first Epic.
Protip: I'm not programming the phone on Sprint's network.
Just tried it on my phone to confirm your symptoms. It seems that you're stuck going the ##MSL# and Service Programming in QPST route. If the phone is activated and Profile 0 properly configured, maybe you can use Update Profile and Update PRL in the settings?
I have an idea. If you really need to press certain buttons to navigate the menu this should work. Get another phone and set it to speaker or hold it up to the mic and press the numbers you need. You might be able to find a program online to do it also. Every number is just playing a certain frequency note. I use to record the number I was dialing with a tape recorder when I was a kid. I would then just play it again to call the number.
On my Epic mobile phone.

Heh, I tried this but it didn't work. Was a cool idea though. Looks like I'll have to do service programming, which I absolutely do not want to do for a simple VZW programming (since it works on EVERY other phone), but I guess I'll have to. SO stupid I have to go through this trouble just because I can't press "1".
You can program Tasker to send key presses on a delay...
I ended up just grabbing settings in QPST which I thought would never work...but worked just fine. Was weird. Back in the HTC Touch Pro days we were told to always do Verizon Programming.
Well, thanks guys!

Well if you MEID is still the same as the incog, no big deal, just call boost and tell them you were having issues with data on your incog and you reset the phone now you lost all your settings and need to reactivate. They will reactivate/reprogram via ##MSL#, reboot then update your PRL/Profile and you should be good to go.
Dont be afraid to call boost this is a easy fix.
thanks for all the info guys! I'm gonna try the boost thing. To clarify, my phone # and MIN are now 000000xxxx and 000000xxxx. The numbers don't relate to anything I can think of that's why I put xxxx instead of the #'s. I used cdma workshop to put my correct info for these. I'm worried about the fact that HDR AN Long password is missing when I read with DFS. I would re write it but it's the free version and the settings won't stick no matter what I do! Would the $50 paid version make them stick? I don't have the extra cash (car in the shop) @ the moment but it would be nice to know. I would hate to spend $50 and not get anything different. I've been reading for 2 days on how to do that via some other program but it's not going well. PST errors for me and I saw something about the prl being the problem and use DFS to change it. IDK how to do that exactly so I'm not gonna risk bricking this $600, marble white, sweetheart without a clear understanding how to do it and how to get the settings to stick with DFS or another program. I see comments that are very vague telling you how to do it and have purchased a manual but with DFS not sticking and QPST producing errors on the 10+ downloads I've tried I'm afraid I'm lost. If someone can tell me how to get QPST to work I would be fine!
After I give the "CALL BOOST" a try I'll report back. One things for sure, I'm kicking myself in the ass for not backing up my EFS. Deeerdider :silly:

This is nuts. lol. I went to the boost site and logged in to my account (by clicking "MY ACCOUNT". Then I clicked on update hadset (like I was changing phones) I coppied and paisted the MEID/ESN that is given for the incognito (yes, this stuck in my phone under settings/about device/Status). Then I activated the same phone again! My service bar showed the no service symbol and I rebooted my phone. Hands free activation failed. I tried to make a call and got the same old "your device is not activated" message and figured it didn't work. I put the phone on airplain mode and started installing my drivers and qpst and such on a new fresh install of windows black. 15 minutes or so passed and I took it off airplain mode and PING got a message from boost giving my account info. I dialed ##000000## and clicked edit. I viewed and checked and my phone # and MSID. It showed them correct.I backed out and hit done. the phone rebooted. Then I got a message that profile couldn't be updated and then it updated the prl and worked! I then tried to make a call and I got the Boost message "not enough money in this account to make the call" NEVER have I been so happy to hear those words!!! It's been about 45 minutes now and I still have no data. Now I will root and backup all my EFS and anything else I can. Will report back when I get data fixed!!!
