I have been using CM7 and for the most part it works pretty good but depending on the circumstances the phone could crash and/or not go back to 4G without rebooting.
It seems that certain functions like texting or applications that sync can lead to a crash so I just did a reload on a clean wipe, turned off all of the account syncing and only have gapps, market and a non syncing gmail loaded. But even with that I am still not holding the network connection the way I want and seem to have to mes with the wimax or reboot the phone to get 4G back.
My signal is good since I am on a hil, know where the 4G tower is and stick my phone way up a vent above all the other buildings.
Is there a stripped rom that is basically just a phone and a internet connection? Old nightlys, tuning suggestions or ?? that would work better and/or do a better job of forcing 4G after an interuption?
I have not loaded sense and new radios in a while if that has anything to do with it.
Thanks
Hey,
There is no so to speak best tether rom, but I have noticed others work better then some. Personally when I use cm7 each day my data speed slows I have no idea why but it does. I personally really like RCMix3d it works great smooth good battery life as a rom and I have had no complaints about tethering its been working well with me.
But if your set up is working I would just stay set with that!
Hope it helped

I suggest you use RCMix3D Runny v5.1 by sbryan12144. Its fast & smooth
Cm7 tethering works good. Its also good on miui roms on most phones. Also for those having trouble tethering. Try wireless tether 2.0.7 which works on almost everything.

I use barnacle... i like it. Super simple. Is stable.
I been using Deck's rom, but now my W7 64bit machine is having a problem with the Remote NDIS driver which I can't seem to find.

It's pretty much between Cyanogen and TeamFenix at this point. I don't care about bluetooth as I don't really use it at this time. I just want the fastest with most functionality.
Thoughts/Suggestions?
they are both very good 2.2 ROMs... fast and stable. personally I am partial to TF1.7.1 because it is the easiest to use the Google Wi-Fi tether (no extra settings other than allowing Super User permissions) to turn your phone into a hot spot for your laptop, net-book, PS3... ect. The GPS works without issue (I haven't had any problems using the Google Navigation Beta).
Thanks sir. I don't normally use GPS on my phone since it kills the battery and I have a Garmin GPS for the car.
no problem man... I just got in to the Android game in April but I do my best to help where I can. even if my wife does call me her "phone nerd", but then she is glad I found a much cheaper hobby than my modded tC
I was using CM6 stable but recently switched to TeamFenix 2.0, it's based off of a CM6 nightly. Very stable, smooth and all around great. There is an issue with the CM6 stable rom where android market wouldn't install/update a lot of apps at random. TF 2.0 doesn't have that issue at all, then again, I'm sure the current cyanogen nightlies fixed that issue also.

It stopped working this morning, it created the network, I could connect my laptop to it, but it wouldn't go on the internet, did some things I saw on AndroidForums, and it still doesn't work. It says "Wireless Tether running with errors, check log.."
Picture of the log in attachment.
HTC Incredible running CM6 with Koush's alternate kernel.
I really need some tethering, PDANet works, but it's terrible on top of terrible mixed with some awful and a little bit of deplorable.
Could this have to do with my kernel? I was running KingXKlick #4 and it was MURDERING my battery, so I switched back to the Koush one, which also made my WiFi stop working, would a kernel change fix this?
Yes kernels have a direct effect on your wifi and tether usage.
If you're looking for speed KingKernels do well, but if you want battery life then I recommend:
Adrynalyne's experimental undervolt (SENSE/AOSP):
http://adrynalyne.us/?p=79
Hydra's stock speed undervolt (SENSE ONLY):
http://www.hydrakernel.net/stock_speed_undervolted_kernels.htm
Otherwise using stock kernel or adrynalyne's custom virtuous kernel (works on all sense roms) is great too. Wireless tether has worked for me with all these. Don't think I've ever used a koush sense-based kernel...
As always do a nandroid before flashing etc etc
Would a wipe/reflash cure the WiFi problems I'm having? Or is it deeper than that?

I had this problem happen to me yesterday. I run ruby1.1.1. I did the following, and it works great now.

Might be a silly question, but are you using the Wireless Tether from the marketplace? If so I'd suggest trying the latest version from the developer's code http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list?can=2&q=wireless+tether
Also, yes the kernel will affect wifi although most of them should be fully enabled with the latest version of Wireless Tether.
ok so I recently upgraded to cyanogenmod 6.1 and I love the rom. I am wondering though when I would normally use wifi tether in the market i would have a lot of trouble keeping a connection with my laptop or my phone would suddenly disappear from the wifi list on my computer. It seems to do it a lot with Fresh 3.3.0.1. I am wondering is there a way for me to get the built in wifi tether/hotspot feature on Cyanogenmod to work on Fresh's or any other rom? Also if i could get better battery life in CM 6.1 I would just stick with that rom. Thanks again.
The one in 6.1 uses wireless tether from the market try cyanogen to see if it works

Use this wifi tether, and if you have connection issues with it, change to channel 1. I am useing pre13 and my notebook stays connected everyday for 8+ hours with no issues. I have it set to channel 1 in the settings.
Ok thank you. I will definitely give those a try. If cyanogenmod 6.1 could get the same or even better battery life then fresh 3.3.0.1 I would definitely make the switch then. Thanks again and I will let you know what all happens.

Hello All -
I am running Syndicate Frozen 1.2 on my Epic with the kernel that came with 1.1.1 which I think is Twighlight? Anyway, I am having issues with my wireless tethering where I am connected but am not getting a signal or will get a very weak signal like 23KB. It's very unstable. I've tried different physical locations to make sure I am getting a strong 3G signal and I have also tried flashing different ROMs (currently on EE03) with no luck.
Also, one thing I didn't notice before going to 1.2 is that when I start the wireless tether, the Sprint hotspot app starts. Is this normal?
Any help anyone could provide will be greatly appreciated. Wireless tether option is what lead me to this site so it is pretty important to me.
Loving the new ROM experience by the way. Thanks ALL!
If you are using the yellow Wifi Tether, it is supposed to make the Hotspot icon turn on. If you are on 4G, its best to turn it off then activate the tether then turn 4G back on. Make sure you select Epic in the settings. I am getting fantastic speed using version 3 pre 14. I am not sure which is baked into the ROM though

I've never had the "yellow" wifi tether app work for me on all versions of SRF ROM's. I've always used this one from the market, always worked nearly flawlessly for me. And I can fire it up while 4g connected, unlike what people recommend with the other one...check it out.

Yea I was using the yellow Wifi tether. I'll give the one from the market a try. Thanks for the replies!
I use wireless tether 2.0.5 pre15. For some reason I have issues with other ones. Try searching 4shared for the .apk

Will have to try something else. Wireless tether is not working at all (the yellow or green) which is pretty important for me. It starts but up and download speeds are reading 0 yet my 3G has a strong signal...
I downloaded one of the apk over on android central after searching around more (I believe it was 3.0.0. pre12). So far it is working fairly well. Thank you XDA for being such a valuable resource!
I've been on this forum for a while, and I've used a majority of the ROM's available (although I get the feeling I've only scratched the surface).
However, although good, I have always experienced problems.
For it while it was the camera. Recording video (in 720p, which I do alot of) would stutter. It would run for a few seconds and then freeze for a second, and then carry on. This was present in LeeDroid for a while, a ROM I liked very much.
The other thing is USB Tethering. It will always work but if I was in Disk Drive, I would have to disconnect the USB cable and reconnect it to get USB Tethering, I couldn't just click from one to the other. Again this was only present in LeeDroid, CoreDroid works fine, MIUI (once they fixed the USB Tethering issue) worked fine and Revolution worked fine im pretty sure RCMixKingdom worked fine.
USB Tethering is so important to me, because it is how I get my internet. I have an unlimited plan with my network, which means I can just use my phone, I get speeds of up to 1.1MBPS, so its awesome for me, and saves having a separate bill.
Ultimately, I just want a ROM to work. The reason I rooted unlocked my phone in the first place, was because of a bug HTC left in the phone, which was, when I was using USB Tethering, after about 10 minutes, mobile internet would disconnect. I had keep the screen awake when I had USB plugged in, to stop it disconnecting. Its a known bug, apparently, although since using custom ROM's, I have no idea if HTC have fixed the issue.
Ideally I just want a decent ROM where everything works, silly things like the weather don't FC. And I wouldn't mind a decent Sense 3.0 interface. Regardless of what HTC has said, it does work perfectly on single core hardware.
So ... recommend one to me please
For a 2.1 Rom: Go for LeeDroid latest or ARHD latest both are very good.
For a 3.0 rom: Go for Virtuous Unity 1.31.0 (I am using it with LeeDroid Kernel because it is the best imho)
For an ASOP, I cannot really recommend... Never gone away from Sense.

Cyanogenmod is the obvious choice for an AOSP ROM.
RCMix is another Sense 3.0 option.
We are certainly spoilt for choice.
There are lots of great roms

I've been trying a few ROM's like you do and now i got CoreDroid V7.1 for daily use.I definetly recommend it
