ok so I recently upgraded to cyanogenmod 6.1 and I love the rom. I am wondering though when I would normally use wifi tether in the market i would have a lot of trouble keeping a connection with my laptop or my phone would suddenly disappear from the wifi list on my computer. It seems to do it a lot with Fresh 3.3.0.1. I am wondering is there a way for me to get the built in wifi tether/hotspot feature on Cyanogenmod to work on Fresh's or any other rom? Also if i could get better battery life in CM 6.1 I would just stick with that rom. Thanks again.
The one in 6.1 uses wireless tether from the market try cyanogen to see if it works

Use this wifi tether, and if you have connection issues with it, change to channel 1. I am useing pre13 and my notebook stays connected everyday for 8+ hours with no issues. I have it set to channel 1 in the settings.
Ok thank you. I will definitely give those a try. If cyanogenmod 6.1 could get the same or even better battery life then fresh 3.3.0.1 I would definitely make the switch then. Thanks again and I will let you know what all happens.

It stopped working this morning, it created the network, I could connect my laptop to it, but it wouldn't go on the internet, did some things I saw on AndroidForums, and it still doesn't work. It says "Wireless Tether running with errors, check log.."
Picture of the log in attachment.
HTC Incredible running CM6 with Koush's alternate kernel.
I really need some tethering, PDANet works, but it's terrible on top of terrible mixed with some awful and a little bit of deplorable.
Could this have to do with my kernel? I was running KingXKlick #4 and it was MURDERING my battery, so I switched back to the Koush one, which also made my WiFi stop working, would a kernel change fix this?
Yes kernels have a direct effect on your wifi and tether usage.
If you're looking for speed KingKernels do well, but if you want battery life then I recommend:
Adrynalyne's experimental undervolt (SENSE/AOSP):
http://adrynalyne.us/?p=79
Hydra's stock speed undervolt (SENSE ONLY):
http://www.hydrakernel.net/stock_speed_undervolted_kernels.htm
Otherwise using stock kernel or adrynalyne's custom virtuous kernel (works on all sense roms) is great too. Wireless tether has worked for me with all these. Don't think I've ever used a koush sense-based kernel...
As always do a nandroid before flashing etc etc
Would a wipe/reflash cure the WiFi problems I'm having? Or is it deeper than that?

I had this problem happen to me yesterday. I run ruby1.1.1. I did the following, and it works great now.

Might be a silly question, but are you using the Wireless Tether from the marketplace? If so I'd suggest trying the latest version from the developer's code http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list?can=2&q=wireless+tether
Also, yes the kernel will affect wifi although most of them should be fully enabled with the latest version of Wireless Tether.
Hey guys and gals quick question-
I'm using a MT3GS rooted running Cyanogen 6.0.0 stable ROM and PDANet USB tether. My WiFi works great right after flashing the ROM, but anywhere from 3 hours to a week after flashing my wifi stops working and gets stuck saying "Connecting...". It does not scan or show any available wireless networks, only the one i have remembered. Turning wifi on/off and rebooting the phone don't solve this. I can reflash the rom or flash a recovery and it works again perfectly (until this happens again). Is there any way to fix this or prevent it from happening?
not sure if it will help but the cyano's 6.1 stable was released yesterday i am running it now and it is much improved
just noticed that, flashing now. i'll update if i keep having issues. Thanks
Just updated to 6.1 RC1 and the stability is improved 100x but after about 8 hours it disconnected then returned to the "Connecting...". The only way i could get it to scan and connect again was to reflash my recovery to the 6.1 RC1. No software other than my tether was installed. Any clue to what could cause this or any other fix besides restoring?
I've been having issues with my wifi tethering too. I'm running 6.1 like you are. I can get it to connect every time (although it does lose connection sometimes, but always comes right back up), but my speeds are very slow.
my speed and stability are much improved with 6.1 and I'm no longer having to reinstall the rom daily to keep wifi working. had to restore twice since updating but overall its much better. guess I'm stuck having to restore every few days but it beats every few hours lol.

for those of you looking for a stable wifi tethering app for your newely rooted mytouch slide, and espically if you are on CM6.1 RC2... this works perfectly, ive been useing it for several days without issue...
just thought id share the tidbit to ya all
code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre14.apk&can=2&q=
I've been using the same since RC2 (I am now on the latest nightly, but still working).
just so everyone knows, i posted this cuz after a few hours of looking and total fustration, the forms here didnt lead me to a good tether app, so i did some leg work of my own, figured id save everyone time, no credit owed to me.... just being a good CM'er
i know this wasn't the case in the past..
but is there a way to run wifi in infastructure mode? or at least fake it so i can connect to kindle3?
running CM6.1 RC2
thanks.
mangle
try barnacle for the kindle but the one he just posted is a good working one.
these wifi apps create basically an ad-hoc connection, i know theres a way to connect to a pc and then create a hotspot useing the wife then basically bridge the connections, i had to go through it when i had an ipod touch..... its a silly long process but idk if thatd help
I use wireless tether 2.0.5-pre15 with no problems on the latest cm6 nightly, but it's an ad-hoc connection. Need an infrastructure connection for the Nook Color, as well.
Not sure if this belongs in the ROM specific category or what..
Rooted using Revolutionary and flashed Synergy RLS 1 whilst on vacation. Today is first day back at work and cannot get wireless tether to pass data. Will connect using stock app included with rom, or barnacle, or open garden.
Have tried switching my network type to adhoc strictly, or access point.
I had barnacle working fine, but I had hardware issues with my old evo ( the usual, bad speaker, bad micro usb port, battery life started to suck). So I unrooted, sent it back, rooted the new one, and I can't get any wifi tether apps to pass data.
I did search the forum but could not hash out a clear solution....
I purchased easy tether pro; I guess I can use that via hardwire in the meantime....that's the way I was doing it before the usb port crapped out.
The stats:
Android 2.3.3
htc sense 2.1
pri 2.15_003
Kernel 2.6.35.10-gc0a661b
Help greatly appreciated. Apologies if I left out any info....

Have you tried to simply reload the rom. You may of just had a bad flash.... thats the first thing I would try if something is nothing working as it should
Try a different kernel, such as freedom

Is it likely that *none* of the wifi tether products on the market are working on my device? I can understand if one works and one does not; I was running MIkFroyo and could not get wireless tether to fire there either. Barnacle, however, worked flawlessly.
How does one know if they had a bad flash?
Any other suggestions? Everything else seems to be working just fine; I'd rather not have to re-load all my apps....
I had the same problem with tether on 2.1 sense with HTC kernel. Flashing freedom v.9 fixed my issue.
You don't have to reload all your apps when flashing another kernel.

OK. I'm game for updating kernel. How do I do it?
The strange thing is that I have a dual boot netbook (xp and linux mint).
Wireless tether works fine with Mint.
For this reason, I was guessing it would have to be a network config issue with xp.
Wouldnt this be correct?
edit: solved. I have no idea how I did it, but it works now w/no reflash or kernel tweaks/updates. Weird.

I have been using CM7 and for the most part it works pretty good but depending on the circumstances the phone could crash and/or not go back to 4G without rebooting.
It seems that certain functions like texting or applications that sync can lead to a crash so I just did a reload on a clean wipe, turned off all of the account syncing and only have gapps, market and a non syncing gmail loaded. But even with that I am still not holding the network connection the way I want and seem to have to mes with the wimax or reboot the phone to get 4G back.
My signal is good since I am on a hil, know where the 4G tower is and stick my phone way up a vent above all the other buildings.
Is there a stripped rom that is basically just a phone and a internet connection? Old nightlys, tuning suggestions or ?? that would work better and/or do a better job of forcing 4G after an interuption?
I have not loaded sense and new radios in a while if that has anything to do with it.
Thanks
Hey,
There is no so to speak best tether rom, but I have noticed others work better then some. Personally when I use cm7 each day my data speed slows I have no idea why but it does. I personally really like RCMix3d it works great smooth good battery life as a rom and I have had no complaints about tethering its been working well with me.
But if your set up is working I would just stay set with that!
Hope it helped

I suggest you use RCMix3D Runny v5.1 by sbryan12144. Its fast & smooth
Cm7 tethering works good. Its also good on miui roms on most phones. Also for those having trouble tethering. Try wireless tether 2.0.7 which works on almost everything.

I use barnacle... i like it. Super simple. Is stable.
I been using Deck's rom, but now my W7 64bit machine is having a problem with the Remote NDIS driver which I can't seem to find.
