It stopped working this morning, it created the network, I could connect my laptop to it, but it wouldn't go on the internet, did some things I saw on AndroidForums, and it still doesn't work. It says "Wireless Tether running with errors, check log.."
Picture of the log in attachment.
HTC Incredible running CM6 with Koush's alternate kernel.
I really need some tethering, PDANet works, but it's terrible on top of terrible mixed with some awful and a little bit of deplorable.
Could this have to do with my kernel? I was running KingXKlick #4 and it was MURDERING my battery, so I switched back to the Koush one, which also made my WiFi stop working, would a kernel change fix this?
Yes kernels have a direct effect on your wifi and tether usage.
If you're looking for speed KingKernels do well, but if you want battery life then I recommend:
Adrynalyne's experimental undervolt (SENSE/AOSP):
http://adrynalyne.us/?p=79
Hydra's stock speed undervolt (SENSE ONLY):
http://www.hydrakernel.net/stock_speed_undervolted_kernels.htm
Otherwise using stock kernel or adrynalyne's custom virtuous kernel (works on all sense roms) is great too. Wireless tether has worked for me with all these. Don't think I've ever used a koush sense-based kernel...
As always do a nandroid before flashing etc etc
Would a wipe/reflash cure the WiFi problems I'm having? Or is it deeper than that?

I had this problem happen to me yesterday. I run ruby1.1.1. I did the following, and it works great now.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8410860&postcount=260
Might be a silly question, but are you using the Wireless Tether from the marketplace? If so I'd suggest trying the latest version from the developer's code http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list?can=2&q=wireless+tether
Also, yes the kernel will affect wifi although most of them should be fully enabled with the latest version of Wireless Tether.

Hey all, so I recently switched from a 1.47-based back snack to the newest froyo-based baked-snack and/or fresh and since then my wireless tether has gone the way of the dodo. Wireless tether seems to be launching and broadcasting but is not allowing connections from PC/MAC laptops (tried both). I've additionally tried the most recent FRESH ROM as well as the stock netarchy build and in all cases I can't get any connections from other computers (I don't even get the request or notification of an attempt to connect in wireless tether) As far as I can tell I don't have a MAC address issue of any sort.
Any ideas?
Wifi and 3G seem to be functioning fully, as well as everything else I've tested.

Seems to me a developer's section would be the appropriate place to post if I am having a recurring permanent problem post-installation of a developer's ROM.
-Just checking to see if anyone else might have seen this same problem, post ROM.
No need to be male genitalia.
I have tether working on calkulin evio rom. Test different versions,v visit the developers page. Pre 2 seems to be working best imo.

Haven't heard of this issue. You said you're running the netchary kernel on fresh right? What version of wireless tether are you running?
Thanks gmaine. I've tried both the Pre 2 that came with the backed snack rom and whatever version came with Fresh, and both had the same problem. Uninstalling and reinstalling whatever the current version is in the marketplace as well didn't work. It feels more and more like a hardware issue, though nothing else is funky at the moment.
Am currently running the netarchy update froyo kernel and have tried new and old version of wireless tether.
Try uninstalling the current tether app and using this one.
I'm running fresh 3.1.0.1 and using pre 7 of wireless tether and having no problems. Try uninstalling what you have now and install pre 7 from here http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list?can=2&q=Evo
am installing, etc, now.

The you should probably post in that specific ROM's thread.
for the netarchy kernel many are using Pre6. Some ROM's require the new Pre7.
Pre7 works on the Stock netarchy build for me and is mentioned several times in that thread.

Totally agree with you on that one, but didn't get my answer after a few days and tens of pages of posts later.--So of course, that was the first route I went. (Everyone seemed to busy arguing about PRI downgrades, but I digress.)
Anyways, the .apk that was just linked works, although I'm really not seeing the difference between it and the marketplace wireless tether and reinstallation. Either way, things are working now, thanks for those of you with constuctive advice!
Which rom do you guys prefer?
I prefer the TeamFenix 1.7.1 because of the working Wi-Fi tether, don't know about whether or the Bluetooth is working yet because I don't use it. and I haven't had any force closes, battery life is pretty decent considering how much time I spend using the internet on it
They're both the same to me. Both have working bluetooth but no bluetooth audio which is why I am not using them. Anyone know any key differences in the roms?

TeamFenix 1.7.1 uses the "android-wifi-tether, Wireless Tether for Root Users" from www.code.google.com and it works right out the gate without having to install anything to your computer or modify any APNs. just start app, tap the start button, allow Super User permissions and you are up and running.
Can anyone recommend a kernel/ROM with RNDIS enabled? For some reason everyone builds kernels with this option not enabled, it's needed for wired tethering to work.
When building from the stock kernel I had to patch with:
https://github.com/getitnowmarketin...1fad97b052400883/drivers/usb/gadget/f_rndis.c
to get it to build properly.
For some reason I can never get wireless to work when I build the kernels no matter what guide I follow.
I would be willing to pay $20 bucks for this.... HeyItsLou maybe you can hook it up?
Thanks,
B
Im really hoping to get this with one of Chad's kernels but I'm really curious why people leave it disabled.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
I know with the stock HTC kernel source compiling will break if you put a [Y] in Android RNDIS USB support, but the above file fixes that. I'm really hoping someone will work this through.. wireless tether is OK, but wired is better/more stable.
anyone wanna bite?
Myn's Twopointtwo and Redemptive
So is this the reason why I have erratic tethering with CM7 nightly (#29)?
When I was running stock and used PDAnet i remember it being a lot more stable, same goes for the ##887 hack.
Now with wireless ( and more with USB) native tethering on CM7 it seems i have to reload pages a lot more often, or the service just hangs up for no reason. Downloads also quit at any random spots.
I have been using CM7 and for the most part it works pretty good but depending on the circumstances the phone could crash and/or not go back to 4G without rebooting.
It seems that certain functions like texting or applications that sync can lead to a crash so I just did a reload on a clean wipe, turned off all of the account syncing and only have gapps, market and a non syncing gmail loaded. But even with that I am still not holding the network connection the way I want and seem to have to mes with the wimax or reboot the phone to get 4G back.
My signal is good since I am on a hil, know where the 4G tower is and stick my phone way up a vent above all the other buildings.
Is there a stripped rom that is basically just a phone and a internet connection? Old nightlys, tuning suggestions or ?? that would work better and/or do a better job of forcing 4G after an interuption?
I have not loaded sense and new radios in a while if that has anything to do with it.
Thanks
Hey,
There is no so to speak best tether rom, but I have noticed others work better then some. Personally when I use cm7 each day my data speed slows I have no idea why but it does. I personally really like RCMix3d it works great smooth good battery life as a rom and I have had no complaints about tethering its been working well with me.
But if your set up is working I would just stay set with that!
Hope it helped

I suggest you use RCMix3D Runny v5.1 by sbryan12144. Its fast & smooth
Cm7 tethering works good. Its also good on miui roms on most phones. Also for those having trouble tethering. Try wireless tether 2.0.7 which works on almost everything.

I use barnacle... i like it. Super simple. Is stable.
I been using Deck's rom, but now my W7 64bit machine is having a problem with the Remote NDIS driver which I can't seem to find.
I can't go 10 minutes using wifi tether without my phone doing a soft restart or without the app just not working tried beta8-11 all the same, any help would be greatly appreciated...
*also i haven't been getting any 3g although 4g works fine, when i switch to 3g only it give me the blank signal triangle*
(rooted on stock 4.0.2)
Anybody have any idea why this happens or other alternative beside pda net, would prefer something wireless, or should i just flash a custom rom with tethering hack already in it?
Mine has the same issue.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Not sure which are updated for ICS, but have you tried any of the other WiFi Tethering apps? And the built-in Hotspot feature?
Try flashing a new kernel maybe? Could be something in there that doesn't like your stock kernel settings?
my guess its that the gnext actually have some telephony related bugs while you are on a 4g network..and google is aware of this..probably it will be solved soon with the 4.0.4/5 update
For wired I use the built in tethering in the settings. For wireless I use this: http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...ail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta11.apk&can=2&q=
I've used both for over an hour with no problems. LTE, GummyNex ROM, Franco kernel.

I didn't realize that there was a new Beta out. Thanks for the link! The v3_1-pre110 version would drop my connection on a pretty regular basis.
