Didn't the instructions for reverting back to completely stock used to be stickied at the top of the development section. If not can someone point me in the right direction to make it back to stock to see if i can resolve my GPS issues.
Thanks,

You can use Odin to flash any tar at the top or buy mobile Odin pro and use it to flash tar and your flash count won't go up ..the pro will root it when it flashes then you can flash a kernel with CWM and not have yellow triangle....I keep it on my phone as it's a way back from bricking when phone won't connect to computer in Odin
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Thanks, what is this flash count you speak of?
If you hold down Vol and power button when the phone is off ...it will put you in download mode it will ask you to hit Vol up to confirm it is the number of flashes done with Odin it will say custom firmware or something and have a number ... On earlier bootloaders this could be cleared by using a jig, but they have said later ones can't it's a way for sprint or Samsung to know if you flashed your phone ...mobile Odin does not make the number go up ...

Awesome back on stock and gps locks instantly. Is there a rom that the gps will still work reliably with or do you think I just had a fluke previously.
tw
most of the tw roms work just as good as the stock , if you flash cm7 over the stock it works great

Rooted successfully, flashed cwm's most recent recovery and made a backup,i go and DL miui and try to flash that and get a neverending bootloop , so i go into recovery and try to go to backup/restore and my power button wont work.. aka im trying to select the option to do my backup and it isnt responding.. but it does respond correctly when going into recovery/ download mode
I originally had this thread posted in wrong section of ssgs2,
A response i had was where i got the cwm from, i replied the market. apparently im not supposed to use the one from the market, and thats where i stand currently, any help is greatly appreciated to get this phone up and running again
Odin and flash a stock image onto it and a stock kernel, should be fine by then
That probably isn't clockwork mod- rather samsungs default recovery. In samsungs recovery, you press the home button instead. The reason cwm from the market does not work is that it is identified as a galaxy s II, and ours is an epic 4g touch, so it flashes the wrong version. Just use Odin to flash any kernel in the development section (I strongly recommend the LoSt Kernel)
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Also, there is no miui for our phone. Do not be mistaken- the sgs2 and the sgs2 epic 4g touch are not the same phone.

Thanks that worked perfectly
this post worked great. for some reason clockwork 5.0.0.27 will not let me use power button anymore. Home button works fine though. Thanks
Yeah just give thanks to anyone that helps.

im kind of new to this, i flashed the stock kernel.
where and how do i flash a stock image?
Hey guys. I'm having some issues installing kernels. I'm aware of how to do the process but aside from the CWM kernels and the stock kernel that's installed when you odin back to stock every other kernel I flash results in a boot loop.
Things like ROMS and zips install fine in CWM but as long as the file has a custom kernel I get boot loops.
Anyone have any idea how I can go about fixing this so I can install ROMs on my phone?
Can anyone help? Plz???
Probably because your well on your way to bricking your epic.. kernels are rom specific just cause theres many out there doesnt mean you can flash anyone over any rom..
I wouldnt really play with cwm just yet phones to new... alot people are bricking this device fasst ..I was one of them.
If u wanna play safe use stock rom with zedomaxepicv3 1.6 oc kernel flash that tar in odin after u go back to stock eg30.tar
give development some time ..let others go through trial and error.
Spare your device she will brick trust me.

Nothing that I'm doing should result in a hard brick with this phone. The issue isn't that I'm flashing different kernels with any random ROM. It's that ROMS don't install properly because of the issue my phone is having with kernels.
I've tried to install Zedomax's latest kernel immediately after going back to the stock eg30 tar before and I wasn't able to do that either. It resulted in me getting a boot loop as well (that had to then again be fixed by flashing the eg30 tar).
It's a weird issue that I don't see others having on the forum and honestly I think it's possible that it might be a small fix such as flashing a particular tar or possibly formatting some area of the phone, but I'm just not sure how to address the issue.
Heres what u do worked for me ok
Step by step
Go to stock with eg30.tar its a 435-450mb file
Use the odin version 1.85 reccomended
Enable usb debug on epic
Get into download mode
Only select pda and choose the zedomaxepic v3 1.6oc kernel it is a tar file should be in android dev section or google it.
Only selct auto reboot should already be checked in odin , do nothing else and do not use any pit file.
Then you should get a successful flash then phone boots up as galaxy s 2, gt 19100 with a yellow triangle that means it flashed
Thats exactly how i did it.

Flash the tar kernel with odin.. dont use the cwm zip method i bet that does it
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA Premium App
Yes samsung is known for that once ur on a kernel made for the device bit its really from a diff phone cause zedomax is a gti9100 kernel i a way u cant flash rom zips over a custom kernel
You can only use rom zips over stock kernel
The only way to flash zips is be on stock rom stock kernel first.
The best method is odin not cwm

If I do this process in the order you have it here then when I try to install Zedomax's Kernel it hangs at zimage in ODIN and I have to disconnect the USB. The kernel never flashes and it stays on the official Samsung kernel.
This stuff is frustrating
Weird weird... It shouldnt hang anywhere as long as u see yellow com port in odin and you have correct tar put into pda only dont unzip anuthing just put download into winrar choose pda and select the downloaded tar.. When done itl say pass in green
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA Premium App
Make sure its the complete prerooted zedomaxepic v3 1.6 kernel no other version and it must be a .tar file not zip . In pda only let it sit sometimes it will fail keep trying but make sure ur on stock rom first..
That kernel willl give u over clocking ..root and cwm recovery all in one
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA Premium App
try another usb port, and/or another cable...
and you can just flash the stock repack with CWM to avoid flashing zedo first

I know what to expect in ODIN during a correct flash, I've used it multiple times, but for whatever reason, that particular tar file always end in a hang at zimage.

I have the right file. And I already know how to obtain root and CWM with the few kernels my phone can flash (Which now that I think about it are mostly stock kernels with slight modifications). Overclocking isn't that important to me but overall my main problem is that when I'm in CWM I can't fully install ROMS. They install but do not flash over correctly/completely and cause boot loops. Other zips flash fine.

I've tried multiple USB cables, all result in the same thing. I've tried to flash the stock pack with CWM that you're talking about before and that works fine. i was able to root afterwards and everything but once I tried to install a ROM when I'm on that kernel. I get the same thing, boot loops.
are you sure its bootloops and not just taking a long time? because rebuilding the dalvik-cache can take a while and loop the bootanimation..

I can't imagine rebuliding the dalvik-cache should take in excess of 10 minutes or more (if it can, correct me). It just hangs at the Samsung Boot Animation that has the yellow triangle with the exclamation mark.
(I've left the phone on for about 15-20 mins before at this screen) I can only then access download mode, nothing else. No recovery and no booting.
Maybe just stay stock for now till development furthers..

I'm not experiencing the boot issues but, I found there is a lot of information out there regarding kernels and rom's. This is good stuff here. By doing this method, will it root the phone? After doing this, I would like to get rid of the yellow triangle. Mostly just annoys me. Is there an easy way to do that?
I see a method chris41g provided for doing it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297999
Is it possible to just use that stock tar and then use zedomaxepic v3 1.6oc kernel? Or is it the kernel that causes the triangle?
Sorry for so many questions. I'd like to do this once and do it right the first time. I came from the Bonsai ROM on the Epic 4g. It has been a while since I have had to do this.
Thanks for your time.

The kernel is pre-rooted so, yes it will root the phone.

Yes it is the kernel that causes the triangle.

Have you tried going completely back to stock? It will remove root and cwr. Then try odin chris41g repacked stock pulled kernel with cwr (can't remember if it provides root or not) but you xan always flash the root zip.

I've had to go back to stock multiple times. Every time I've tried to flash a ROM it's run into a boot loop and the only way that I can access the phone again is to ODIN back to stock, install one of the few kernels I can that has CWM and restore a backup. The kernel you mentioned in your post is one of the few my phone will take but others like the Lost Kernel and Zedomax's OC ones will send the phone into a boot loop.
Hey i believe i have somehow locked my boot loader. I can flash the rom in the recovery mode but it does not show up after booting the device. Its stuck on juggernaut 5.0 which i was recently using. I factory reset my phone dozens of time but no luck. Tried every damn thing in the odin even took a developers help but no luck. Even he was shocked. The system seems to be frozen on juggernaut. Is there a way around this. I believe i cant even brick my phone since even odin doesn't flash anything
You already posted this.

Really serious this time. So you cant get into download mode and have your phone recognized by odin to flash stock rom???. If you can get into download mode abd odin sees the phone, you should be able to put the stock rom in pda hit run and it should work. Have you tried using heimdall instead of odi ?

I can get into the download mode and can flash it through odin as well but once the flash is successful and when it autoboots after the stock is flashed it goes back into juggernaut rom rather than going into stock rom. I dont seem to get hold of anything. I deleted all my files manually like pictures and notes and stuff but once i rebooted the phone they were all back again. One of the developers even helped me step by step but that didnt even work he was rather shocked. He told me that your boot loader might be locked and he said i am not even sure you will be able to brick the phone!!!

What are you flashing? Stock ROM?
I wanted to try an AKOP ROM or two on my completely stock, never rooted Note 2 running the OTA UCALK7 update. I followed the guide here (flash the SU injected stock UCALJ2 image) to root and now my note gets stuck at the Samsung logo. I have tried the following:
Downloaded the completely stock UCALJ2 unrooted image and flashed via ODIN.
Tried flashing both stock and rooted ROMs on another computer using the stock USB cable.
Flashed CWM touch via ODIN after flashing rooted UCALJ2 image, it can boot to CWM but fails miserably most likely to the lack of root.
My guess is it's bricked because sammy closed the root hole in the UCALK7 update and flashing back to rooted UCALJ2 isn't enough to bypass the patched exploit. Is there an ODIN flashable complete UCALK7 image that I can try (I've looked to no end, all I can find are rooted zips flashable via CWM) or am I really up the creek?
Pull the battery.
Hold the Center Home Button + Vol Down + Power
Slide the battery in.
If you do this right you can get into odin before the Samsung logo. I just had the same problem because I flashed the wrong recovery. It worked for me.

Thanks - I actually figured that part out since my second post. The phone boots after the factory reset however I don't get phone/data service. I've since tried flashing the two AT&T modems I could find, atti317ucalj2modemfixed.zip and ATT K7 Modem - Baseband.zip. Neither resolve the issue.

Thanks but I can't even enter the network configuration settings - it tells me to insert a SIM. My SIM is in the phone.
I'm having other problems too which I think are partition related. Apps are acting funny, saying there isn't space on the phone (dropbox can't download anything, etc). I'm trying to get TriangleAway installed so I can just RMA it but I can't even download it to my phone. Also a CWM fix permissions fails even though I grant it root access.

I know what you're saying, I'm definitely using the right file and process. I'm a pretty seasoned veteran when it comes to rooting/odin/RSD/fastboot, etc. I've run custom ROMs on dozens of phones since the G1. What's happening to me is apparently not a common failure with the note 2 or GS3. Is there a PIT file available for the AT&T Note 2? I see one for the Verizon Note 2 but I wouldn't dare try to flash that.
There is a pit file around but I really don't think it's that.
And also just checking don't mean to insult ur intelligence but if u are using Odin it will be a .tar, if it's a recovery its I .zip

Yeah, it's a tar file I'm flashing through Odin, got it from SamsungUpdates: Samsung-Updates.com-SGH-I317_ATT_1_20121005095854_bpaaavv07o.
I also tried flashing the stock ROM in deodex'd zip form after I got a custom recovery on there, still no dice. The non-functioning modem and lack of proper root/storage affects both Sammy and CM/AKOP based ROMs. I don't know about the modem part but I've seen weird things like this when the NAND starts going bad and things written to it don't "stick." I don't think that's the case here since it's only on its 4th or 5th flash. More than likely the latter problem is a file system issue. I have no idea about the radio.
I'm going to try and exchange it tomorrow. At least I got the flash count cleared and I'm back on a stock ROM (with the same problems).
ok i have a sprint 4gET flashed to cricket.. running Team Acheron's "Touched by an S4" (Awesome) after checking out some of the new roms coming out I decided to flash a few and check out the new cm10.1.3 and the jb4.3 systems... I am familiar with the procedures for flashing jb, ics roms and follow op directions to a t everytime..but today after losing data cable connections twice on an odin install my phone would not respond... after leaving batt and sd card out of phone for 2 hrs I was finally able to set phone into download mode.. flashed directboot recovery by cwm wich cot me to my sd card to reflash my trusty touched by an s4 rom but now when it boots up my samsung screen displays a totally diffferent model.. it says Samsung Sll GT-i9100 but in settings it still says sph-d710... how on earth did that happen and how can i change it...

Not true in all cases^^
some of the direct boot Odin & Mobile Odin files (EL26 or EL29) were originally made from the international phone source and when the kernal is flashed it will reflect the i9100 on boot up. This is normal if your phone is working properly. You can also one-click back to EL26 stock to get rid of it, but then you have to go through the process of re-formatting the partition.
If it is working fine, I would use Triangle Away. If not, you will probably need to start over with a one-click exe.
