I prefer to download from dev host cause its fast and has md5 sum lol. But I'm sure there's a reason why devs sometimes choose megaupload over dev host.

Fortunately many lawmakers are changing their minds about supporting it. Make sure you contact your representatives to let them know you don't support it.

I KNEW they were charging way too much for their service.
If they weren't so greedy they might NOT have been on that situation.
They could have offered a small percentage to the artists and devs.

I heard multiupload was shut down too over at rootz. Wtf? How can the govt do that? I don't get it can someone out there with some legal know how explain?
Megaupload had a leased server in VA. That's what gave the USA the jurisdiction. Since American copyrighted content was being distributed by Megaupload, the USA issued warrants and had them arrested and the site was shut down.

Yeah that's true. But innocent people usually end up suffering from someone else's doing.

megaupload isn't the only one hosting pirated movie/music and software, Oron, hotfile, rapidshare, filesonic, fileserve and a bunch of other storage services are doing the exact same thing, wonder why the Fed cherry-picked megaupload instead?
They simply made too much money, the Hollywood executives just couldn't let that go. I for one will be boycotting ALL entertainment until this ordeal is at its end. I wont allow them to use my money to limit my freedoms, I lost a lot of legit open source work when the FBI went cowboy.

No way I can go without new music, that is why I will just use thepiratebay to download my torrents. F U SOPA.
Looks like all the major file sharing websites like hotfile, filesonic, fileshare, depositfile, etc have disable download from any link other than files that you have uploaded yourself, we can't download most of the roms storing on their site anymore....

I upgraded my Titanium Backup to the Pro version paying the $5.95 (actually $1.00 + CHF 5.25). it was instantly upgraded, and I got the email (+smses from my bank). Yesterday on its own it has reverted back to the donate version. Also,if I remember correctly there was a second Titanium app which is also now missing. I am on Android 2.3.3 on my Dinc 2.
I download the pro version from 4share.apk
Finally fixed. Titanium staff (Joel) were most helpful. Finally, removed and reinstalled Titanium Backup and the problem was fixed. Reinstalling the Key file did not help. Apparently, if you are using the same Google account then i. you can reload the key and ii.you can run it on multiple phones. They key is personal to you.

Yeah sorry. It's taking a paid app and making it free, which is almost like stealing. It's pirating. Not getting onto you, just letting you know anywhere you download something "pro" for free, you shouldn't share it.

I seldom use those forbidden sites to acquire fully functioning software products only to make sure that it WILL perform properly on my aged PC.
If it works and I like it, I actually purchase the software and re install the proper version on my PC.
If it does not work or I don't care for it I remove it.
Piracy for the sole purpose of trying to get something for free that is offered for usually a modest amount, is wrong plain and simple.
It IS nice of you to offer help to people that are stuck trying to make use of the software that they DID pay for.
Usually there is a Read Me file within the file or on the site stating that if you like the product, then you should pay for it.
And now that you know, If you like the product and it works as it should, you should either pay for it or uninstall it.
The site you quoted probably doesn't pay ANY add revenue to the developer of the product.
I know it was a hassle to get my purchase validated also, but I kept at it and feel good about having done this.

I may not have signed the petition, but I called my House Representative and both of my Senators to let them how I feel about SOPA & PIPA.
I called rather than sent an email because talking to them lets them know we DON'T want these pieces of garbage passed. It's harder to ignore a phone call than an email.
This was the best idea to promote awareness
AWESOME JOB XDA!!!
I wish more web sites would have handled it the same way!!

I absolutely hope you're right.
don't get me wrong, i'm not a pro "stupid law against internet"
but was this really necessary ?
a lot of visitor are from outside the USA
so even if we sign (i did it) the petition, the lawmans from the US will only think : what does this stupid french guy bother us..
also, even if politics get petitions from the internet... as long as people don't move on the real life, it will only be hopeless...
in france we had also some stupid laws, a lot of people said : we'll go to Paris and say our disagreement with us
finaly, there were only a few people in Paris, so they vote the ugly law ....
briging down XDA to say : we are against it and we'll only come back after 50k people signed the petition, is imo not very usefull
and by doing so you also force people to sign (were is the free will ?)
imagine the poor guy wo did a wrong manipulation on his device and he comes on xda to find help... he will comite suicide
a notice would have been beter, because the usefull informations are accessible
and you know politics are dumbasses... if they saw some actions like XDA they will say : 10 people does some action on internet to force other to sign it.. so the petition will be even more worthless into their eyes
i'm never against signing petitions, even against US laws, but here i found this a little too much
and don't forget, a lot of people from other countries come here, they have not the same mind as you...
some will say : yeah they are right i will sign it and refer this petition
other will say : what the **** ? i'm not interested in this **** put it back
and other will say : yeah but was it really needed to go that far?
The thing is that the future of XDA and numerous other websites which operate from the USA are at stake.
Logging on to XDA and finding the petition page (which you had been notified about prior to the black out) is better than logging on and finding that the website has been taken down because of a stupid copyright.
XDA folk can not just let it happen. Everyone needs to do their part. This way was the most effective, and I don't think that 4.5 hours of downtime effected development significantly, but it did show us the way (notice I am not using 'force') to fighting the SOPA petition.
It was your choice. If you wanted to see XDA back, you signed the petition. If you wanted the internet to stay the same you signed the petition.
A French person signing shows that SOPA is disliked worldwide, and the effects it will have (if implemented) on the world, and not just the USA.
+1 to that! Everyone should do there part, the domino effect of those two laws would be devastating! Well done all who signed!

I'm still not so sure about that. A number of them were scared into dropping support once they realized that had no idea what was actually going on in the bill or on the internet for that matter. The public backlash was pretty tangible. If things get more serious protests would likely get more intense and the backlash would likely be epic.
Do I think that means that SOPA/PIPA have been defeated? Tough question. Chances are bills called "SOPA" and/or "PIPA" will likely never get passed...but I think it's not unlikely that they will be dismantled into pieces and stuffed into "feed the poor orphans" bills, "job creation" bills and "unemployment extension" bills....what kind of heartless prick would vote against unemployment benefit extension, jobs creation and feeding poor orphans?
...only honest politicians. Good luck finding one of those let alone enough to keep something named like that from passing.
Well, as you all know the government only works for the rich. So, when the rich think there precious profits might be damaged they will arrest you. That is exactly what happened with pirate bay. They forced a foreign government to arrest people who hadnt committed a crime in their own country.
For the record I use megaupload all the time to download roms. I think we all do. They are far from pirated so hopefully they will see the site has a great legitimate purpose.

Most of them have totally disabled any type of file sharing and some have enabled only uploading and downloading your own content. Most other sites will probably do the same thing.
I doubt file sharing sites as we know it will disappear altogether. The problem with MegaUpload was that they were actually guilty as all hell and they knew it. Employee emails showed that they knew that most of their subscribers share copyrighted works and even the employees themselves would share pirated stuff with each other. That along with their size was why the feds went for them.
I suspect that the sites that have taken down their sharing features have the same problem (their internal communications show that they acknowledge and encourage piracy on their sites) so they are doing whatever they can to minimise the damage. Other sites have shut down their "uploader rewards programmes" which can be used against them in court to prove that they are encouraging and profiting directly from piracy.
Now what the smarter sites have to do is avoiding the mistakes that these sites have made and comply swiftly with takedown notices and stay under the radar. Because of the MU case we'll probably see a huge drop in pirated stuff on file sharing sites for a while (I'm sure many uploaders/subscribers of MU are getting cold feet since the feds pretty much now have all their details) but for legitimate users there really is nothing to worry about.
The only solution will be back to BBS, IRC and FTP server?

but at 99ยข i could see this app make easily a million dollars your right though theyll prob want some of that piggy bank. given them one penny per download, i don't think you'll have to pay any royalties to individuals in the articles seeing how they all ready been dead for decades, whats a newspaper worth nowadays anyway right but you are saying that you would have to get the permission still from lets says new york times to make it into a digital copy? that would suck because you know darn well that they arent doing anything with it anymore anyways except keeping all that good news in a library.

I like this idea
This sounds like something that maybe google's open book alliance may be interested in. Those old papers should be in the public domain. Depends on the copyright, I guess.
If it was made into an open source project I think it would take off
here is a site similar to the idea
chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/
and even this site could maybe use a touch of tapatalk style having the type of articles categories into years, types ex; murders, scams, business, ect... then at the end of all the parents have the article in a internel view or external view browser.
