Hello everyone.
I've been running few scripts on my device like the ones found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233878
except for I got them from different resource (using Google)
how to know if those scripts are not harmful to my device (Arc S) !?
Also if anyone tried this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249387
can they please give me a feedback, I'm thinking of trying it on my device

Do a backup and try, if u dont like it then you just have to restore?

ROM tweaks HOWTOs

Hello, now that UI have looked at my MDA Pro (german T-Mobile) I would ike to get into tweaking the ROM. Therefore I would like to know what this extended ROM thingy you have been talking in here actually is. Why would I need an extended ROM ?
Since we are talking about ROM here, this is what I want to do:
There are some apps that I really would love to get rid of: emailwizzard, clearvue PDF, but since they are in the ROM I just can't delete them. Also I don't really know what Files I actually need to delete and what esle I would need to do to delete it CORRECTLY.
Also I really would love to get rid of the carrier logo in the Phone App. I probably have to delete carrierlogo.gif. I trid to do that using total commander only to find out that it is not deletable (nor renamable) , borbably because it resides in the ROM.
So to sum it up:
1.) what do I need to do to achieve the above described two goals
2.) what is the benefit of having an extended ROM ?
3.) what do I need to do to create an extended ROM ?

[Q] PSXperia 1.0 Compiling?

Hello XDA forum, I recently got an Xperia Play and wanted to use Yifan Lu's PSXperia, i have already used the tool several times and had no problems extracting apks and zpaks. After installing said components, when it comes time tostart the game, the health notice appears ad then the screen remains black but does not crash.
In the README for the tool, it has compiling instructions with indicated files. It mentions a "lib" directory and "resources" directory. Can anyone who has successfully used the exploit on an R800x (2.3.3) give clarification on this? I may have overlooked the compiling (is it necessary?) and wanted to obtain info regarding this before I start looking at the logs produced.
If possible, would anyone be able to provide a slight procedure on how to do the compiling and where?
Thanks in advance.
you have to change your data pack
use PSxperia 2
Hey Mehdi, just thanked you man, THANKS.
I knew about the 2nd beta but was unsure of using it, but after going ahead and fiddling with that one I am now HAPPILY enjoying Tekken 3 on my Xperia play!

[Q] Installing KangBang 3.0

Hello XDA,
I've been following you for years. I started following you with my first Android phone, an HTC Hero. I've been very happy to be able to use a community ROM that made a far better experience than the stock ROM.
I recently got a brand new HTC One V PrimoU, and I'd like to make it my new polyvalent tool.
I'm not a noob in computers, kernel/linux related stuff, electronics, networking. I already tried some ROMs. In fact, I started with KangBang 3.0 (the same version as now I think), but both WiFi and BlueTooth were not working. Android could not even detected the WiFi MAC address, so I guess it was a driver or wireless chip firmware related problem. I think I was the only one affected, so it was maybe a bad flash or I used the wrong kernel. I did'nt investigate more at the time, but if it happens again to me, I'll send some system/kernel logs.
I then tried AOKP, had a great (really) experience with it, except that the Jack plug sound quality was awful. No bass, only mid/high tones. I even thought my speakers were dead at first, but then tried with headphones. Now, I want to try KangBang again, because that ROM was good, and fast, just missing WiFi.
TL;DR
I'd like to ask some precise questions about KangBang and the HTC One V.
I initially wanted to ask in the ROM dev thread, but can't since I'm a new user, so I ask here. Sorry if the questions are stupid/simple/answered, but let's make a clear base, with precise interrogations and answers, so that they will never be asked again
The kernel is included in the .zip file. Still, do we need to flash manually ? Or will the Aroma installer handle that ?
What about ROM Manager ? Is it recommended to use or is it a good way to brick a phone as I heard ?
Does this ROM change the base Android system and file structure ? Would it be compatible with a side-by-side installation of a Linux system such as Debian ? (To see what I mean by side by side installation of Linux, search Debian Kit for Android on Google, as I can't post links)
Also, I'd like to tell ROM makers these advices (don't take them bad, I you think I'm wrong about them there's no problem, just tell me why) :
It would not be a bad idea to give a simple statistic about the ROM : the load average with the ROM installed on an idle and clean phone. That would give a good indication of idle power consumption and ressource wasting.
I see that users reporting problems with their devices NEVER include any kind of debug information. Maybe you should ask for them, just because by searching for this debug information they might solve the problem themselves. Most Android systems and kernels report a LOT of information, that we can access with simple commands such as dmesg.
Last but not least, I would like to thank you, ROM developers and XDA users for allowing me to play this way with my phone, and to make it work exactly the way I want.
Hugo G.,
ummm this device has kangbang?? (btw questions go into q&a )
so i'll move onto the TL;DR which i was grateful for
1) The rom thread should say what kernel but yes, we don't have s-off so flashed manually
2) Ignore rom manager don't touch it
3) think of it as the differences say with debian vs ubuntu vs mint all basically debian but all with they're own differences (pros and cons)
also about the "suggestions" to the devs, that will NEVER go down well, why should YOU suggest to use what to put in the threads also i know in my threads i ASK for logcats time and time again...
hope this helps
if you need more info i'll be welcome to add more, but 1st i need sleep BADLY

[Q] Z1 Compact Chinese version M51w - google services not available but needed

Dear all,
desperately I am looking for a solution for a kind of very stupid and annoying problem:
I bought my Sony z1 compact in China. Model version: M51, Also called "colorful" in China
This Phone has a for China modified Android version installed. Nothing related to google works.
Well, sure the search engine in the browser. But I need the calendar, play store, etc.
Now I am thinking, has anybody experience with this device? ( only find posts to D5503)
Would it be possible to just update it with an international version? (Android 4.4 firmware 14.3.A.0.681)
Do i need to root, unlock Bootloader, or should a "normal update" work was well?
Or any other suggestions how to proceed?
I come the Apple world, where a jailbreak is one download and one click, I rooted a Xiaomi 2s with some small difficulties, but this looks way more complicated with this phone.... So any help would be appreciated..
Thanks,
mic
solved!
Well, developers,
forums are something strange. I really thought that anybody had a suggestion, a thought, an idea or whatever... 70 views and not a single answer.
Interesting.
Sure i could figure out that a root would help of course, but for a newbie like me, all of the descriptions have gaps and require much more knowledge about it, so that there is still a huge risk to screw it up and to maybe not destroy the phone, but to make it not usable until another solution is found.
Since I needed the phone, for receiving calls and SMS, i needed to go the less risky way and in the end - risk was still there ( is the M51w restricted to china and will not handle the firmware of the D5503) I followed the guide on the
"xperiafirmware" page called "Sony XPERIA Z1 Compact D5503 - Android 4.4 - firmware 14.3.A.0.681" ( sorry, cannot post links yet)
I just flashed the Android 4.4 - firmware 14.3.A.0.68 made for the d5503 (according to the guide "1. how to install the newest Android 4.4 for Sony XPERIA Z1 Compact D5503") it worked with out any problems.
One thing that might be misunderstanding is the Flashtool.
After downloading the flash tool its not called "Xperia flash tool", it looks the same as the "androxyde flash tool", and there is a second one which is the " Sony flash tool that is called "Emma" but the flash tool.
So,... just use the one this author linked in his guide, and don't get confused by the names..
Now I have my problems firstly solved. But have to say that, with that some others come...
- Google account sync seems to be not really under my control
- two google accounts even more hard to handle
- and further settings very limited, so that I sometimes even have the feeling i was free with iOS. And the Xiaomi of course let me taste the complete taste of freedom.
- SD card management
- Walkman
- album folders
...
Well , I will figure that out as well.
Hope this post will help somebody!
Just my 2 cents... Downgrade back to android 4.3 I'm pretty sure some of those problems will be solved. And another is Chinese version of Z1C doesn't have LTE support and since you flashed an international version of the ROM LTE might show up in the settings but there's a huge chance it will not work or possibly cause errors. Phones made for chinese market doesn't have google installed because google is blocked in their country. Just a FYI Never noticed your post so I didn't get to assist you before this but seems like you made the correct choice on solving your problem.

Once you get fully up and running, you'll LOL like the rest of us reading that. In this kind of situation you are kind of on your own because until you've tried you'll never know and most of the People reading wont advise you to do something that could potentially hard brick your Phone. You've done what I would have done which is grab an ftf and tried it, not much more you can do.
Same problem
Hi Mic,
I want to follow your example with my Chinese Z1 Compact. Are you still around, in case I have some questions? Have you tried to fix the other problems you mentioned? Any new comments? I am going to try to understand the procedure but I would feel better if I could pick your brain in case I get stuck.
cheers

[Q] can anyone show how to edit the size of partitions of the Xperia S

first of all, hi everyone who's reading this
i'm interested in the Android 6.0 AOSP build, for example by billchen1977 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-s/s-development/pure-aosp-lollipop-t2940839).
but it says that i need to change the size of some partitions and something like p14 and whatsoever.
and to be honest, i don't know where and how to start.
so does anybody have time to tell me how to do this ?
i already looked up on a few forums and looked it also up on google, but either the downloadlink of some applications for the pc aren't available anymore or the tutorial is not suitable with the XS or it's done via pc-connection, but the pc has to run on linux (my pc is currently running on Win10).
if anyone's interested, feel free to give me advice
