Sorry if this has been brought up already but for some reaskn i cannot do a search on the forums. Trying to Bluetooth tether to my transformer tablet to share the internet connection from my epic touch.. I am on caulkins el29 from. I get them both paired but the two never connect, just says paired but not connected. Is there a way to do this to get it to work or is this something sprint disabled?
Not sure about bluetooth but why not use the regular hotspot if you're just using it for internet access?

Guess I figured the Bluetooth might be harder for sprint to track but I suppose the experts here at xda have taken care of that with the hot spot mod.

yeah, but, if you want to be extra sure use the 'wifi tether' app....
....but I wouldn't worry about it either way.
I didn't know Android devices could connect as a BT-DUN client....I know you can be the server with certain apps, but, the client thing is news to me...not that I ever looked into it, lol.

I have searched Google and anything I find involves using wireless tether with laptops or how to get the app. Can anyone tell me if you can use it on a home pc? If so, point me in right direction or noob guide to get it to work. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
If youre lookin for the app just go to market and search barnacle wifi tether or wireless tether I use barnacle wifi thether with no problems both are free
The rom i'm on has it. I'm just trying to figure out if I can connect to use on my desktop, and if so what I need to give it a go. My pc doesnt appear to have a wifi network built in. So, wasn't sure if possible. Sorry, I'm a complete noob with this stuff.
Yes it's does work wireless tether. It does work you don't have to worry I tether my droid to my htc evo with wireless tether and my ipad and my bros ipod 4g when were goin to a far away place
You might also want to give wired tether a go i heard if you connect the usb to ur computer and you use the app on your phone it uses ur 3g/4g and it will give u internet on your pc
http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/downloads/list
Thanks alot for the link. I'll give it a try.
did it work?
Yes thanks. Slower than cable connection obviously but working. Was thinking about cancelling internet but not til figure something else a little quicker. That's why I was thinking wifi but my desktop doesn't have it built in. I have pc,evo, even netgear router. Just seems like I'm missing something. Wish I was more tech savy for stuff like this. But thanks again for the help.

I'm sorry. I'm talking about using your phone as a WiFi receiver not to transfer files. Basically 3G tethering for WiFi.
But thanks anyway.

What exactly do you need, I don't understand this WIFI receiver part, do you want your phone to act as WIFI AP to be able sharing your 3G/WIFI connection to your PC?
If this is the case then it depends on the ROM that you are using, Cynogenmod has this built in. It's called WIFI tethering.

What I mean is instead of tethering 3G you tether the mobile WiFi connection.
And yes I'm running CM7. I'm NOT looking to make a hotspot.
In other word you use your phone to connect to the WiFi and then tether the connection through USB and then the PC is indirectly connected to the WiFi by using the phone
Sorry if this makes no sense.

Do you mean plug the phone into the PC via USB cable and then connect the computer to wifi?
Edit: you modded your post and answered my question before I posted it! Your mind reading skills are excellent

Maybe it would be easyer but common why buy a WiFi dongle when your phone could do it for you?
Sent From My Sophisticated Rock...
Ok. But dongles are specifically made to do this task whereas a phone is not!!!
Did you check the post I mentioned in wildfire dev.? I think its what you are wanting.

Connect phone to Wifi and enable USB tethering. Havent tried it, but it look like functionality you are searching for.

Ok I get it, and my apologies for being rude.
Every post I read on the subject across various forums implied that this method uses your 3g instead of keeping your wifi connection active, i haven't tried it myself for a while and i know it didn't work for me before on a previous nightly but if you say it keeps wifi connection open and allows your PC to connect then I trust your judgment and would say try that before installing an app to do the same job.

Alright thanks. Will give it a go. Im guessing that it will work on the latest stable on CM7? Just making sure.
Edit: It connected and didn't turn the 3G on and kept the WiFi in the background. The PC says its connected to a network but not the internet, must I download a, client side application or what must I do to configure it?

You don't need any client app on your PC. It's quite difficult to identify cause this way. I don't know your set-up, what OS are you using, do you have HTC drivers installed (which version)?
My setup is:
Phone:
Wildfire S-OFF
CM7 nightly 225
PC:
Win 7 SP1
HTC drivers
If you don't have drivers, you can try these ones.

I hope this is in the correct section, to me it is a question.
I have the ET4G and am getting a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 16G from work. It is wifi only.
I am running unnamed rom on EG30
I know I should be able to use the hotspot hack to tether the tablet.
I don't have a great knowledge of bluetooth as I have never really used it.
Can I pair the phone to the tablet and tether that way also?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but again, I don't have a great knowledge of bluetooth and how it works or what it can do.
Thank you in advance for the help.
Not a dumb question at all. I believe the hotspot hack is wifi only. There is an app called "wireless tether" which I believe at one point had Bluetooth tether but is only wifi now. Bluetooth is a different kind of radio. Google it to find out the exact difference. Is there any particular reason you want to pair it with Bluetooth?

Using my Evo to tether when I had my tab was pretty easy using the Sprint hot spot. All you really need to do is start it and use the wifi setting on the tab to connect. Make sure you get the password from your device.
I never really had much success with Bluetooth tether to share the internet connection. Transferring files was pretty straightforward.
Wifi tether app (I can upload but you really should go by their site and read up on it) required adhoc support on the GT, as I couldn't get secured to run with the Evo. May be a bit different with the GS2.
Really, if you have the native hot spot running, use it. Will work with little effort and I found it reliable.
Thank you both for the help.
Wasn't really looking to use blue tooth to tether, just wondering if it was in some way better. I guess more wondering if it would just use the phone signal to connect to Sprint network where the tablet wouldn't.
I have the hoyspot hack up and running fine, that is what I use for my laptop all the time. Why pay the cable company $60 a month.
I guess I was just wondering if one was better.
Thank you both for the help.
There is wifi network, but only 1 device can use it.
Suppose I connect my Galaxy Nexus to that wifi, is it possible to share that to other phones?
I know that I can share 3g connection to other phones via wifi, but is it possible to share wifi via wifi?
It is possible using pc though http://www.virtualwifirouter.com/
uhhh don't think that'd be possible. You can see that if you're on WiFi and try to turn on WiFi Hotspot, it disables your WiFi.
what kinda stupid network are you connecting to that only lets one device connect?
Are you able to allow more connections by changing settings in your router?
bow chicka wow wow.

I've just thought of this off the top of my head so don't blame me if it doesn't work but it would seem feasible if;
1) First phone set to share/tether via bluetooth to 2nd phone
2) 2nd phone turns on Wifi tether
3) other devices connect to 2nd phone.
Let us know if this works as I'm not about to collect all the phones in the house to test this out hahaha.

Hey everyone, iv just started using my phone as a multimedia remote when im in bed watching some netflix or something. And the app (Gremote) uses wifi to connect to the gremote server on my pc in order to control it.
Now I know that arc's do seem to have some pretty terrible wifi problems in terms of dropping out etc. This ever really bothered me, until i started to use it as a remote, and now its become a pain....
Is there any 'definitive' way to fix this problem? If not, is there a way for me to connect my phone to wifi through the pc's connection rather than directly to the router? (without the use of cables)
Thanks!
yes it is possible to connect your phone to PC's wifi...i always use that...search for wifi hotspot creator software for PC
Try this http://www.softpedia.com/get/Network-Tools/Misc-Networking-Tools/WiFi-HotSpot-Creator.shtml

Awesome thanks ill take a look! hotspot is the word i was looking for, heard it before, just escaped my mind . Since you use it this way, do you notice any significant improvement on the wifi signal?
Thanks.
Just like to follow up for anyone else that might be wondering, it really does boost the signal, i now have full wifi signal on my Arc S, which is great for using it as a remote since there are no more drop outs causing the mouse to jump all over. Also, just for clarification i used the software called "connectify".
Cheers.
