I have searched Google and anything I find involves using wireless tether with laptops or how to get the app. Can anyone tell me if you can use it on a home pc? If so, point me in right direction or noob guide to get it to work. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
If youre lookin for the app just go to market and search barnacle wifi tether or wireless tether I use barnacle wifi thether with no problems both are free
The rom i'm on has it. I'm just trying to figure out if I can connect to use on my desktop, and if so what I need to give it a go. My pc doesnt appear to have a wifi network built in. So, wasn't sure if possible. Sorry, I'm a complete noob with this stuff.
Yes it's does work wireless tether. It does work you don't have to worry I tether my droid to my htc evo with wireless tether and my ipad and my bros ipod 4g when were goin to a far away place
You might also want to give wired tether a go i heard if you connect the usb to ur computer and you use the app on your phone it uses ur 3g/4g and it will give u internet on your pc

Thanks alot for the link. I'll give it a try.
did it work?
Yes thanks. Slower than cable connection obviously but working. Was thinking about cancelling internet but not til figure something else a little quicker. That's why I was thinking wifi but my desktop doesn't have it built in. I have pc,evo, even netgear router. Just seems like I'm missing something. Wish I was more tech savy for stuff like this. But thanks again for the help.

Hi,
I'm a new owner of a G2. I've been looking for a way to get USB tethering to work, but haven't managed to find the info on it. I saw in the wireless tether thread that sherifone gives a shoutout to teferi for "his original USB tether script", but couldn't find the post by teferi.
Is it possible to get USB tethering working on the G2? How?
thanks,
del
Your best bet would be to gain root using VISIONary, and use the app "android-wired-tether" from Google Code

Pdanet also works

Oh, I thought I read the wired tether was not working due to some kernel issue.
Thanks. I'll give it a shot.

I use pdanet and wifi tether both work.
goodluck
In case anyone else is wondering. I tried wired tether and it did not work.
Windows 7 could not locate a driver for it. The device is displayed in the device manager with the yellow icon overlay.
On the Mac, it detects a network adapter but expects account information and some other info.
Wireless tether seems to work, but it was very slow for me. That's probably because the reception at work seems to suck. It spends more time on EDGE than 3G.
I may try PDANet eventually. But to be honest, I wanted to tether at work (the client's site) because their connection sucks pretty bad. But with the speed I'm getting, I may just stick to the client's network.
Need help finding an app that serves as a wi-fi router for my EVO. I didn't know that Sprint charges additionally to use their hotspot app and now I'm left without being able to access wi-fi on the go. Anybody know of any apps? Btw, everything of my EVO stock. Please help.
I believe you can only use free wireless tether if you're rooted. If you aren't rooted, PDAnet in the market can provide a wired tether (ie plug your usb cable into your computer).

I hope this is in the correct section, to me it is a question.
I have the ET4G and am getting a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 16G from work. It is wifi only.
I am running unnamed rom on EG30
I know I should be able to use the hotspot hack to tether the tablet.
I don't have a great knowledge of bluetooth as I have never really used it.
Can I pair the phone to the tablet and tether that way also?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but again, I don't have a great knowledge of bluetooth and how it works or what it can do.
Thank you in advance for the help.
Not a dumb question at all. I believe the hotspot hack is wifi only. There is an app called "wireless tether" which I believe at one point had Bluetooth tether but is only wifi now. Bluetooth is a different kind of radio. Google it to find out the exact difference. Is there any particular reason you want to pair it with Bluetooth?

Using my Evo to tether when I had my tab was pretty easy using the Sprint hot spot. All you really need to do is start it and use the wifi setting on the tab to connect. Make sure you get the password from your device.
I never really had much success with Bluetooth tether to share the internet connection. Transferring files was pretty straightforward.
Wifi tether app (I can upload but you really should go by their site and read up on it) required adhoc support on the GT, as I couldn't get secured to run with the Evo. May be a bit different with the GS2.
Really, if you have the native hot spot running, use it. Will work with little effort and I found it reliable.
Thank you both for the help.
Wasn't really looking to use blue tooth to tether, just wondering if it was in some way better. I guess more wondering if it would just use the phone signal to connect to Sprint network where the tablet wouldn't.
I have the hoyspot hack up and running fine, that is what I use for my laptop all the time. Why pay the cable company $60 a month.
I guess I was just wondering if one was better.
Thank you both for the help.
I have the T-Mobile s3 with cm10 if it makes a difference. I have gotten the WiFi tether app to work Just fine on my computer by using the WiFi tether by treve app and changing the user agent on my browser to a tablet. but what id like is to tether my ps3 to my phone. my kid has an easier time watching Netflix on it instead of the computer. I've searched and searched but every method I've seen won't work on the ps3. anybody out there know how it can be done? thanks in advance.

Download an app called easy tether. Done deal
if you mean hook the ps3 into the computer via Ethernet cable and share the connection using the easy tether app I've tried that. doesn't work. unless I'm doing something wrong. this method worked fine for my Sprint evo so I don't think I'm doing it wrong. if it works for you maybe you could write me a step by step on how to do it? using easytethers instructions did not work.

Well thats um uh.. not "normal" behavior, or easily done.. You need to have a relative knowledge of networking to achieve this. Is it impossible? Absolutely not, its quite easy once you know what youre doing.. I cant explain it all, as it would take forever to type detailed instructions, but i can tell you this:
You MUST use what is called an Ethernet Crossover cable. I make them myself but they are easily found and cheap (depending on length) on ebay.
You plug one end into the PS3 ethernet port, other end into computer ethernet port.
On computer, you have to bridge the WiFi (or whatever connection has full internet access) with the Ethernet port that has the crossover cable attached..
However, the easy way to do it would simply be purchasing a VPN and setting it up on your phone to use the purchased VPN then T-Mobile cant detect what sort of traffic is going across your phone. I know some services over cheap VPN for like 60 a year with unlimited bandwidth and data usage. (I use a free one for my PS3 as after so many Megs they limit your bandwidth but the PS3 uses like none for gaming, would be a different story for Netflix though)

Forgot I have the paid version... which allows such a connection. Lol
I have been able to do this for a long time tho with no issues
I have the paid version as well. are you using a crossover Ethernet cable? That would explain why it's not working. I have little knowledge of networking but I can usually work my way through instructions.
I was wondering if there was anyway I could use the S3s wifi connection for a laptop. Not tethering using 3g
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Do you mean like this:
Wifi Hotspot > S3 > Laptop
?
If you do, you could use CWM tether (its usb tethering) or Wifi tether for root users (works if your phone is connected to Wifi but some people have had issues with that, I have not)
Kinda like ad-hoc but having it emit from the phone
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Let me see....
You have someone Wi-Fi key stored in your phone, and want to share it to your laptop?
Try with Bluetooth, or in Play "Wi-Fi key recovery"
Also you can clone your phone mac address.

Tethering is using 3G. There's no other way to share data. Are you rooted?
Yeah...what he said...because if its wifi to phone to laptop then you might as well connect to the wifi directly right? Idk, I still dont really understand what you're trying to do
One of my laptops doesn't have a 5Ghz network card and since my phone can connect to that band, I was wondering if there was an ad-hoc like thing for android.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
I'm still not understanding what you want to do. Why don't you just connect to the network from your laptop and leave the phone out of the process?
This phone can not emit WiFi and use WiFi at the same time. Does that answer your question?
Alright it answers my question

Ahh ok, I've done that before on an OG evo AND evo shift, so it is possible...now whether it would work on this phone, I' don't know, some people have had issues but look around and try all the apps you can find to see if they will do the trick
I used wifi tether for root users v2.2/v2.1 (can't remember which one it was) and it worked flawlessly, just a lot of battery drain but thats to be expected
You can use your WiFi and tether at the same time?
I can USB Tether WiFi (like a network adapter), but I've never been able to tether my WiFi connection.
I'm currently having issue with my Wifi Tethering with the TrevEMod. it keeps saying "What the hell...." i've searched thru the forums and tried all the fixes and it still disconnects. Any word on this?
