Hi,
Due a problem updating the bootloader, the phone had a soft brick.
The only ROM I was able to flash after that was a 2.3.6 Vodafone 4.5.1-134_DFP-139.
As I understand this ROM wasn't downgradeable and now I have a standard bootloader.
Can I install a new bootloader? How? Can I root this ROM? I wish to install a CM ROM.
Thanks in advance, and sorry for my bad english.

Yes,you can.But it's not necessary. You also can root the rom,and you must need the right tools.
Hi, what are these "right tools"?
Give me a link please
Help please
I have made an FAQ thread about it. To root use SuperOneClick. Rest of the info is here. In case of any doubts feel free to ask me.
The problem is that you can't root with SuperOneClick 2.1, the new one of SuperOneClick v2.3.3 seem work but now the problem is with Superuser....
I can't install 2ndinit
Ok, a cuple of reboots after SU worked now I have 2ndinit instaled.
Wich rom to install Over a non downgradeable 2.3.6 Rom?
CM7??
CM9??

Uninstall your old rom manager because it doesnt support g2, download the new one, flash clockwork mod-select g2 as your device- wait for it to download and flash he recovery. Btw i would suggest you click fix permissions first before doing any of that

clockwork mod for noob
I finaly decide to root my G2( and S-Off ). So I use CyanogenWiki procedure without section about Flashing the Engineering HBoot with is denger and optional.Next I was uninstall no need stock soft (mp3 amazon finance or listen).Today I try to backup everything with clockwork mod.
1. Is the procedure with ROM Manager safe?
2.Do i need to do something else after geting perma root and s-off to install clockwork mod ? (still don't know what for is Engineering HBoot)
3. After instaling clockwork mod or after rooting I will stop geting official updates ?
4. Do i have to buy a prem version of ROM Manager or free market version will do the job ?
5. How to flash clockwork v3 and is there reason to do that ?

Lots of q's
Ok
1.Clockwork mod is very safe
2.No. If you have Perma-rooted your phone you are good to go
3.After installing it you can receive OTA updates if you are using STOCK rom
but its best to not update via OTA at risk of losing root. I was already had
temp root when we got the OTA in US and I had no problem but be warned
4.The free version is fine. But its always good to buy the paid version for added benefits and to help dev out

Sometimes it takes a couple of times before recovery sticks, so if you get the red triangle just reflash the recovery again untill it sticks.

Eng. Hboot is not required to flash a custom rom, but obviously perm-root is. Im guessing you got that quote "Perm Root with hboot-eng.....is needed to flash a custom ROM (still REQUIRED for the moment)" from the CM7 Nightly thread, but there is a way to flash CWM3 without an ENG. Hboot ( it requires terminal emulator) and also the CM7 nightly rom.
Any idea how to install CM7 from stock less risky way then hboot ? How about flashing CM 6 and upgrading to 7 ?

If the HBOOT required comment was for just CWM3, then there are guides already out there (including one stickied in this forum):

Then just use CWM3 to flash CM7 like normal...
Absolutly right. Thx for links. Am a noob.

Hello, I want to install an other ROM on the Defy in order to get 2.2 as it fails the official way. On my XT720, it's pretty straightforward. But on the Defy it seems so complicated. The wiki doesn't help either.
The problem is: I don't have Windows. I read something about flash_sbf which also works on Linux. And z4root to root the phone, so also no Windows needed.
But after rooting, what is the easiest way without Windows to put a ROM on the Defy? I want to install this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096966

Sorry, I don't know about Linux but in windows a stock CEE v2.2.2 can't root with z4root. I have to use SuperOneClick (V1.9.5)
Well, it's running stock 2.1 at the moment.
But I wasn't asking about rooting, I was asking about the flashing-part.
Here you go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076138
Wow! Thanks! I'm gonna try that
Thanks. It worked! There's now 2.3.4 on it. But there is still one problem.
I put the rooted Nandroid-backup on it, then flashed the SBF. So it should still be rooted. But it isn't anymore. And when I try to root it again, it fails saying that the system is read-only. 2.3.4 works perfectly, but it has to be rooted again. What can I do now? Root with something else or... ?
I have these version of :
Android Version = 2.3.6
Baseband Version = I8150DXKL1
I want to use the following ROM :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438452
Is it compatible guys? Please help me!
P/S : I have just rooted my Galaxy Wonder and then update from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 using OTA. To use the above ROM, do i need to do anything else like flash recovery or backup anything?
You need flash a recovery like this.
You need to be rooted and have a recovery method installed , RZ or CWM.
Those are the only pre-requisites to installing a custom ROM.

Meaning, i just follow the instructions and i'm done?
Do i need to do a factory reset or backup or something? Hmmm.
One more thing, given my baseband version above, it is compatible right? Because i'm afraid i might brick my phone or alike.

I have rooted my device. Guess i just need to have a recovery method.
P/S : I rooted my phone with Superoneclick, and if i ever want to unroot back my device, how will that be done?
Hi, i own a Xperia Play since 3 days.
Normaly it is no problem for me to root my older devices and put cwm on it.
But the Xperia Play makes me angry...
I managed without problems to unlock the bootloader.
Than i installed .42. There i could root the phone and put cwm on it but when i installed a custom rom, the device stuck on "sony ericsson" bootlogo, so i need to install stock .42 again. (i rooted with superoneclick and flashtool) CWM was installed by the cwm app and "cwm-install" from the forum.
No methode works for me to install a custom rom.
Now i installed .62 tft on the device because with .42 didnt worked for me.
But now i couldn't install root(superoneclick or flashtool doesn't work). So i couldn't install a cwm.
Could you help me ? I read a lot of threads, but couldn't find an answere.
I read something with kernel, but kernels are normaly installed by customrom itself or manualy after installing rom, i am right=!
I hope you could help me, because i want a fast device.
Best regards bikerboy-030

.62 firmware is unrootable by normal methods, therefore you have to use a pre-rooted rom/kernel to have root and CWM
thanks for the fast answer!!!
Thx a lot, now i know, that i do not need to test it with this rom any more
Does an pre rootet stock rom exist, that i can install with flashtool?
So that i can install cwm over the new app? That would be awesome

Try DooMKernel. Pre-rooted and comes with CWM.
BTW there is only pre-rooted kernel, not rom. My mistake

can you please tell me how do you flash the kernel when the phone is not rooted?
I am in the the situation but couldn't work out how to flash new kernel.
thanks!
edit: finally figured out that I need to unlock bootloader first. strange that I didn't need to do that for my first root.
doomkernel brother !
Hey guys! I'm kind of noob, so bare with me.
I have a Xperia S, which I already unlocked the bootloader and since January I installed the FXP10 rom.
Two days ago I decided to give a try to the new stock rom 6.2.A.0.200. However, I lost the root and the CWM recovery mode.
Now I can't get to root it or install CWM. I tried a tutorial to root in editandroid. However, I get an error while rooting with "root with restore by Bin4ry". And nothing happens.
Printscreen attached below.
Does anyone have another method, or a solution to this problem?
Also, I liked this rom, but has few options Is there any other custom rom exactly like this but with more options, like CM10?
Thanks in advanced!
I fastbooted and flashed the DoomKernel. Now CWM appears and I can recover CM10.
All is good.
Thanks, you can now remove this thread. :good:

im having the same problem tried to root with the new Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v30 and it just sticks after service menu

What is your rom? What I understood is that if you have the new stock rom, that won't work.
Just fastboot doomkernel, it will activate cwm and from the recovery menu you can now flash any rom.

what exactly are you trying to update? if you haven't rooted your phone ever then there is no jelly bean feature to root it. if you have lost cwm recovery after installing pre rooted .200 build by doomlord then you can get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2302393
hope this helps:good:
