[Q] Problems in rooting from Stock Rom 6.2.A.0.200 - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Hey guys! I'm kind of noob, so bare with me.
I have a Xperia S, which I already unlocked the bootloader and since January I installed the FXP10 rom.
Two days ago I decided to give a try to the new stock rom 6.2.A.0.200. However, I lost the root and the CWM recovery mode.
Now I can't get to root it or install CWM. I tried a tutorial to root in editandroid. However, I get an error while rooting with "root with restore by Bin4ry". And nothing happens.
Printscreen attached below.
Does anyone have another method, or a solution to this problem?
Also, I liked this rom, but has few options Is there any other custom rom exactly like this but with more options, like CM10?
Thanks in advanced!

I fastbooted and flashed the DoomKernel. Now CWM appears and I can recover CM10.
All is good.
Thanks, you can now remove this thread. :good:

What is your rom? What I understood is that if you have the new stock rom, that won't work.
Just fastboot doomkernel, it will activate cwm and from the recovery menu you can now flash any rom.

its and original firmware update but from my understanding it should work because of the jelly bean feature

what are you trying to update?

what exactly are you trying to update? if you haven't rooted your phone ever then there is no jelly bean feature to root it. if you have lost cwm recovery after installing pre rooted .200 build by doomlord then you can get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2302393
hope this helps:good:

CWM and Root or Root and CWM

Hi, i own a Xperia Play since 3 days.
Normaly it is no problem for me to root my older devices and put cwm on it.
But the Xperia Play makes me angry...
I managed without problems to unlock the bootloader.
Than i installed .42. There i could root the phone and put cwm on it but when i installed a custom rom, the device stuck on "sony ericsson" bootlogo, so i need to install stock .42 again. (i rooted with superoneclick and flashtool) CWM was installed by the cwm app and "cwm-install" from the forum.
No methode works for me to install a custom rom.
Now i installed .62 tft on the device because with .42 didnt worked for me.
But now i couldn't install root(superoneclick or flashtool doesn't work). So i couldn't install a cwm.
Could you help me ? I read a lot of threads, but couldn't find an answere.
I read something with kernel, but kernels are normaly installed by customrom itself or manualy after installing rom, i am right=!
I hope you could help me, because i want a fast device.
Best regards bikerboy-030

.62 firmware is unrootable by normal methods, therefore you have to use a pre-rooted rom/kernel to have root and CWM
thanks for the fast answer!!!
Thx a lot, now i know, that i do not need to test it with this rom any more
Does an pre rootet stock rom exist, that i can install with flashtool?
So that i can install cwm over the new app? That would be awesome

Try DooMKernel. Pre-rooted and comes with CWM.
BTW there is only pre-rooted kernel, not rom. My mistake

can you please tell me how do you flash the kernel when the phone is not rooted?
I am in the the situation but couldn't work out how to flash new kernel.
thanks!
edit: finally figured out that I need to unlock bootloader first. strange that I didn't need to do that for my first root.

[Q] Upgrading to ZVC From ZVA Rooted

Hello,
I have a G2 Running Stock LS980ZVA Kernel Version 3.4.0. Now I rooted the stock ROM and now got a notification to update the ROM to ZVC.
Now my dilemma is do I "Restart and Install" this update or not. Will this brick my phone?
I have TWRP running as the custom recovery. What should I be doing? I tried to search for a similar thread but couldn't find one.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you!
You will brick. Either hold your finger on the notification and then click app data. Click on the show notification. No check mark. Notification will go away.
Regular reboot will not install the update.
If you unroot and put regular recovery back. Then you could.

I had the OTA downloaded but when i tried installing it, it did not install completely. Phone restarted and is still on 4.2.2 . Everything works as normal though, as I have been prompted 3 times to install the update.

okay, i did some research and found that it is safe to install OTAs but if youre rooted youll lose the root and unlock will still stay.
best imo, is you upgrade to 4.4.2 and root again with custom recovery and install a nice ROM.

Update and reverting to stock recovery

Ho guys
I recently rooted my phone so I could move files into my sd card (heard it was fixed with the last update?) and had to install a custom recovery.. Seems like I can't install the update with a custom recovery on.. Would going back to stock recovery fix this? Would I still have my phone rooted? Would it reset my phone again doing so? Thanks in advance

Hi, if you go back to stock it will reset your phone and yes, you can root a stock recovery. if you unlock your bootloader you can permroot your stock rom,
here is the perfect guide how to do it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618

Since OP has custom recovery, they must have unlocked the bootloader.
My advice to the OP, since you are already bootloader unlocked, custom recovery, and root; just flash a stock rooted or custom ROM based on the updated software. Going back to a stock is a step backwards at this point, not forwards.
Same problem

Hi, I'd like to update my rooted M8 to 4.4.3 as well and don't (yet) want a custom ROM. I searched a bit and found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2694994
Can I use this odexed file? And do I need a stock recovery? If yes, can I use this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1228648

No, you do no need stock recovery to flash the linked stock ROM. You flash this with custom recovery.
Odexed will work. If you don't understand the difference between odexed vs. doedexed, than do a search and learn the difference, and what it will mean to you.

After doing my research, I think I'll pick de deoxeded version, as customization is easier. But is there really a noticeable difference in speed? I will most likely just install xposed modules, should I therefore pick deoxeded or do they have nothing related? (I didn't get what kind of customization is meant in the wikis)
Sorry for asking so many questions

Xposed should work with both deodexed and odexed ROMs; while other mods may require deodexed.
Whether there is a noticeable performance difference between odexed/deodexed, the following links saya no, with the exception of booting after clearing Dalvik:

Boot into recovery. If you see a black screen with a red triangle or green circle, that is stock recovery. If you see TWRP/CWM you are obviously still on custom recovery.
But in case that the system is not stock, lets assume some system file was missing, won't doing a factory reset resolve the problem since the factory reset is being done from the stock recovery!

Fire TV 2 Sloan Stock Rom (unroot)

Hello,
I got 2 Sloans from ebay that I had to do this procedure on https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/unbrick-root-twrp-fire-tv-2-sloane.3986303/ in order to get them up and running and they are, they are now running latest rooted rom from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/firetv-2-sloane-prerooted-stock-images-5-2-7-6_r1.3309783/ .
Which is great ! thank you XDA once again !
But I want to unroot and run latest stock rom which seems to be 5.2.8.0 (671761720). I tried all procedures to force it to update OTA, but it refuses and always says up to date.
Also reason for unrooting is some apps like peacock just refuse to work...
From what I understand I can just flash the stock unrooted rom via TWRP, but for the life of me I can not find the stock roms, or even a rooted latest ROM.
Any help is really appreciated ! TIA

Hi,
I would recommend you to use this procedure now that you have TWRP: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/unlock-root-twrp-unbrick-firetv-2-sloane.4222331/
After that, flash any of this ROMs through the NEW recovery: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/unlock-root-twrp-unbrick-firetv-2-sloane.4222331/#post-84353191

Really appreciate the reply. I tried the first link, and that didnt help, but I see the links to the original firmware so i might just try to install it via recovery.
I was able to unroot by flushing one of those roms and recovery is gone now as well. But it still does not go to the latest firmware... weird.
