Hi there, I own a Samsung Omnia 7 and a LG Optimus 7 and I'd like to enable the bluetooth sms reading feature while the phone is in muted or vibration mode. Why does the telephone reads the texts only while its sounds are enabled?
Please help me, I'd love a registry tweak to do the trick!
A) Probably belongs in the Questions forum, or at worst in the Registry Tweaks thread. This question really doesn't deserve it's own thread.
B) One of the (many) failures of using a single volume control for everything except calls, I suspect. It probably assumes that if you wanted the phone muted, it's because you deidn't want it to make sounds (such as talking). Crazy, right?
C) It's possible that a registry tweak will allow this feature to disregard the master volume control, but I doubt it. More likely would be a registry tweak that allows controlling the volume of this feature, but it would probably be modified again by the master control (and thus muted).

Uhm ok.. I understand your reply.. By the way it's a pity, because I use the vibration mode and the bluetooth headset, I obviously don't want the phone to ring but I'd like it to read me incoming texts while paired with my bluetooth headset!
Please post in correct section. Try the Q&A.

I use my headset when I'm driving, and I've noticed since the upgrade that the headset doesn't ring when I get a call. I looked in the Profiles, and there's no Headset Profile. Does anybody know of a way to either enable one or create one?
Thanks.
I notice this ALSO!!! Its driving me nuts!....no pun intended as i use it when i drive as well. Anyone know whats going on?

No offense, but that is the best thing (to me) about WM6... Okay, maybe not the best, but I prefer this method to the WM5. I understand it was nice to have your headset profile set the way you like it for using your headset. However, I use my headset 90% of the time, and the fact that I couldn't easily change the profile with a headset on with WM5 annoyed me.
I wish you could assign a "headset profile" so that the feature isn't gone, just disabled by default... but I like the new method.

No offense taken.
The primary concern that I have with the WM6 way is that I'm required to keep my phone on silent or vibrate while at work. Using it in the car like I do, I keep the phone in a holder on the dash, so I don't feel the vibration when someone calls. In WM5, I could leave it that way, and when I received a call while in headset mode, it rang in my ear. Under WM6, I don't hear a ring, and therefore, I miss calls.
FYI, I had an SDA prior to the Dash, and it had the headset mode as well. Maybe someone will see this and suggest a way to add a profile to this. I'm not educated enough in the WM registry (where I think it would need to be added) to make the attempt.

You know what, after using it some more today, i think it IS better like this. Makes more sense.
My bluetooth rings in my ear on vibrate--- I like it much better then the headset profile and with the voice command it tells me who is calling and from where!!!
Still missing calls while using headset w/ phone on vibrate. Help, please.
I wish they would allow us to create our own profiles. I remember in WM 2003 it allows us to do that.
I was wondering if it is possible to change the dial tone on the HTC dialer.
I use this to search and call contacts, when i type in a name or number the sound is really bleak or mechanical. Is it possible to change this (preferably to a warmer softer tone)?
I hope someone will be able to help me with fine tuning our Touch HD !
the reg keys for the sound of 1234567890*# is at:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\DtmfX
but i don't think it's wise to play with these settings..
Beware, if this is related to the DTMF while in call you might lose the DTMF function that you use for example when you want to delete voicemails etc.
This sounds quite tricky.
I reckon that there is no easy way to change this then?

Agree.
I just found this reg keys, but I'm not sure if it's just feedback sound when you press the phone pad, or the ACTUAL DTMF SIGNAL that sends to the carrier. If it's the latter one, you might have issues when making a phone call until you restore the original settings (that means, if you don't know how, a hard reset).
Anyway, you can backup the registry entires and temper it on your own risk. It shouldn't make any trouble except the one I said above.
AFAIK, the things you should change is the "Script" entry (which is the tricky part) to make it act like the ringtones, which makes it possible to change to another sound file.
Hi guys,
Just to confirm, what your phone sends (as DTMF signal) and what you hear are 2 different things. I've got tones switched off (for the same reason as the poster - it sounds bloody awful!), but I can still use various services that require keypresses, and I never hear a thing.
Still, always make a backup when editing registry (not that I ever do! lol).
I have an intercom in my building that is routed to my cell phone. I need to press number to open the door. In the latest builds of 6.5.1, when I receive a call, the option to show the keypad does not appear and no hardware buttons seems to trigger it either .
Is there a setting or registry key somewhere to force the keypad to appear also when receiving calls?
Also, when making call, is there any specific registry keys that control the screen turning on and off during call that I could control? I can understand the problem of having the screen active while the phone is on the hear, but I find it very annoying to have the screen turning off automatically while im answering questions from, i don't know if you remember the time, when the automated voice answering systems were only understanding key tones...
I find it ironic that my smart phone with gps and internet is not able to mimic the same functionality as any land-line phone can. Its like, yeah look at my new phone, its great for everything... except for the 'phone' experience.

I love XDA and its community and thanks to every hard working rom cookers. MS should pay you all big time for what your doing.
hey has anybody got the sound for the rigtones working yet
is there a fix ? patch ? etc....
thanks
search the threads and you will find your answers there.
seriously?
if you want info on whether or not the ringtone/external speaker issue has been solved, check the dev threads. If there is a breakthrough they will all have updated it already since its a problem plaguing all rhodium devices.

Come on, man this was his first post, I understand that it's frustrating when someone posts without having read the stickies, but it's posts like that, which are so decidedly unhelpful.
For example, this is a good response, it berates him for not having read but it also contains USEFUL information:

thank you fenny.
Ring tones are working
Ring tones are fixed in the latest build as of 08/30/2010, i.e. sound is working in general.
In my case to actually get the handset to ring on incoming calls, I had to conduct the following steps (before that only the silent option was available as a "ring tone"):
go to settings -> Dev tools -> media scanning. Perform media scan. After that the OS restarted and the phone started ringing. Yeah...
cheers
BTW, I just noticed that the media scanning has to be conducted each time one the handset is turned on, otherwise the phone is not ringing.
Can anybody confirm that?
In addition I am not able change the ring tones in settings -> sound -> incoming calls. Why is that and can this be changed?
Has anyone found that if they use their own ringtone, an incoming call only rings once? I've tried converting my ringtones from .mp3 to .ogg but it still only rings once. If I switch to a stock ringer, the an incoming call rings over and over like it should.
ringtones
my tounch pro2 with the latest blazin build will use any mp3 i chose to use as a default ringtone and will ring more than once and play the full song. But on the other hand my other cell has all the same setup but only shows silent only, so it could be just the headset itself and not the build.

It's the card. Format it with the HP tool. Full format. Also, BLAZN is pretty outdated (9.28 was the last update).
OMG.... I have missed a number of calls due to this stupid bug. A goddamn smartphone in 2011 does not have a seperate volume control for the ringtone... wtf? I dont care about copy-paste, multitasking or quad core proccys but plz MS just fix this fcuking bug. This is the only issue on my Samsung Focus that bugs the hell out of me.
//end of rant
How is that a bug? Its more of a missing feature... One that doesn't require you to get so upset over... And it's your own fault for missing the calls, knowing the phone doesn't have the separate volume control you should be more attentive to your volume because I definitely don't have this problem.
I agree with the OP. There is no excuse for not having separate volume controls. It's easy to miss calls or other important events because of it.
Yes but when you use your phone for gaming and listening to music this IS a problem. I have to reduce the volume when using my in-ear headphones and I always remember to increase it after taking them off but the times when I forget to do this, its a real pain to hear your friends scream at you for not picking up their calls on time.
And these are the same friends who I am trying to convince into buying a WP7 instead of an iPhone/Android, so yes it is frustrating.
The least MS can do is have independent settings for headphones and the speaker phone, this way when you do take out your headphones it reverts back.
While yes, I would prefer different volume controls, I stand by my statement, its your fault. This isn't a bug that needs to be fixed, it's a feature request. I listen to music on my phone all day long as well... But I'm on top of my volume controls... And I do agree separate controls would make it easier... And if your friends scream at you because you need to return a call 5 minutes later, maybe you need new friends.

lol... yeah I will need new friends if MS does not fix this sooner
But seriously dude it is a real pain and a required feature. I agree its not a bug but a cell phone does need to have an independent ringer volume so yeah its kinda a required feature. Its not a problem when you have your phone with you but if you are at home during weekends/holidays/nights its a big deal.
I fully agree with OP. The way volume control is implemented (or rather not implemented at all) is Embarrassing. There is quite a number of other really basic features or settings missing from WP 7. I can only wonder why they care so much with delivering copy and paste before bringing basic stuff like proper volume control, speed dial et c.
I would suggest trying an application called Media Volume Settings. This allows control over the media volume seperate from the ringger volume.

I will. I tried that app early on and found it to be useless for conveniently controlling the volume. Once you have the volume, in-app, set and go to your media, it seems to be fine. But once you alter the built-in volume, it screws with the volume app and seems to bypass it. You always have to go to the volume app to make any changes...in a game or music, leave game or music to open volume app to change volume. Then go back to game or music. Find the music or game still just not at the right volume? Go back to volume app, slightly change it, go back to music or game and analyze.
The app doesn't integrate well.
I agree with OP! I also have a problem where if I play a game and I try to listen to music after wards the music is very low even at max only after I turn the phone on and off does it revert back to normal
I agree that it is not the best solution but it atleast gives you the option of having the ring tone up load enough to hear without blasting all forms of media.

This can be solved by using Media Volume Settings in the Marketplace. It has a fully functional free ad-supported version. Have you even read this thread? It's literally only 2 pages.

App is not a solution
I agree with OP, this is an incredibly frustrating problem.
Unfortunately, it is consistent with the rest of the OS, i.e. *completely dumbed down*.
I listen to podcasts before I sleep most evenings. I like to listen with the volume on 1.
However, I always have to try and remember to turn it back up to a high setting so that I can hear my alarm (assuming it sounds, that is... but that's another story).

It's not his fault. The phone really should offer different volume controls for media and the phone ringer. I agree it's just not logical to have both in the same area, especially since the phone really foroces you to use headsets for so much stuff (notwithstanding the fact that sound quality on HTC phones are terrible, but FM Radio will not work without a headset, EQ is required to make some music sound decent, and that requires a headset, among other things). Sorry, but only a dumb person, or one hard of hearing, would have their phone blasting at near max volume in their ears.
When the phone is playing media, it the volume controls should be for media only - not the ringer.
It's Microsoft's fault. They went out of their way to put as few settings into the OS as possible. You'd think a company that has been maintaining a smartphone OS for at least a decade would at least have the basics down by now.
And no, he doesn't need new friends. A call can be an emergency, and in an emergency sometimes you don't have 5 minutes to return the call. You need to hear the phone ringing, and take that call.
Imagine someone from the school calling you about your child and you return the call 5 minutes later and say "LOL sorry I didn't hear my ringer, was listening to some Podcasts and forgot to put the Volume back up."
It's embarassing, clunkly, illogical, and just a ****ty way to implement this.
Agreed also about needing to have separate volume controls. Right now I keep my phone on vibrate and that helps to minimize the issue but hopefully MS adds this feature later.
