[Q] Salvage Mod + HDMwIn = ? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Flashing for a friend. This rom looks to be where it's at! The only deal breaker is friend uses HDMI Mirroring a lot.
Does anyone have any hands on experience with Salvage mod and HDMwIn to speak of their compatibility? I searched Salvage Mod thread and saw Lithid saying it was an issue (back in august) but would be fixed in future releases.
Normally i would flash for myself, but I dont have the luxury of doing that this time a round. Thanks for your input.

[Q] About to be new to Incredible

Hey guys,
This is my first post over here in the Incredible Forums. I'm an Eris user who is about to upgrade to the Inc. next week.
Now, I already know a fair amount about the specs of this device, and have no problems with rooting it right out of the box because I'd rather have CM7 over stock 2.2 Sense any day lol.
But first, I wanted to ask a few simple questions to you guys over here, such as
1)The Droid Eris didn't come with wireless OR wired tethering like the Inc does. I've heard that with the Inc you have to pay Verizon more $ per month for tethering (wireless hotspot). I've already done a little forum browsing and found how to enable wired tether for free on the Inc, but does this wired tether charge more data$ if you go over 5GB? The reason I ask is because the Eris had a loophole on it where if you bought PdaNet (for wired usb tethering) Verizon would let you go way past the 5GB of your $30 "unlimited data plan" mark since you paid $24.99 (or whatever you paid) for the full PdaNet service. Since I did download and buy the full PdaNet, could I put it on my new Inc and allow this loophole to work? With all forms of tether or just wired?
2)CM7 ROM suggestions please! Whats the cleanest one out there in your guys' opinion?
3)Will psxfreedom (the custom Kernal to hack ps3) work on my Inc with CM7 or what ROMs is that confirmed working on?
4)Amon Ra or Clockwork??!! Eris users were always warned not to use Clockwork because it caused issues. What about the Inc?
5)Is there anything else interesting or important I should know?
Thank you guys for your time, and answers. I look forward to becoming a part of the Incredible Forum
Welcome!
1) I used the built in Wireless Tether in Desire Z Roms and went over 5 GB at one point. I never got a scary bill.
2)CM7 Rom? I just use the latest nightly by themselves. Do you have lots of different CM7 flavors for the Eris?
3)It is available. I dont' own a PS3 so I haven't tried it but there is a link here: http://j.mp/dTvW9Q
4)I use Clockwork for the reason that Amon Ra doesn't let you scroll down too far in the SD card when flashing. Minor issue but it's a deal breaker. I've never run into issues with CWM so I can't tell you much about that. WARNING: CWM 3 uses a new update script standard so you won't be able to flash earlier roms. It's also impossible to flash an old one through Rom Manager anymore so you'll have to do it yourself. A guide should be somewhere, I haven't done it before. Sorry.
5)I should probably let the more experienced members tell you anything special
Welcome to the community. We have some awesome devs and I'm sure you'll love this phone.
(If you don't abhor sense then try the rom in my sig. It's pretty nice.)
you can get a uncapped data mod witch dosent give you free wireless but if you go over you data amount,,ie, 5GB,, it wont be governed down ...... you can get an unlimited data plan but still governed over 5GB .......... search for "uncapped data mod" not sure whether the mod is ROM specific or not
welcome to the family!!!
definitely clockwork!
1) I have no experience with wired tethering and haven't heard much about it, but if you go over your 5GB theoretically you'll be capped at a slower speed. There are proclaimed fixes that will uncap this, but no one has really proven it works yet. The free wireless tethering works like a charm.
2) There is really only different versions of the CM ROM, 6.1 is stable but it's froyo, CM7 RC1.5 (gingerbread) is where the nighties are at now. They're getting more and more stable but you may not want to use it as your daily ROM- all up to you though.
3) pianoplayer answered that well
4) I believe this is mostly based on preference. The clockwork that comes with the full rooting process (from unrevoked) works well, and it's the only recovery I've used. So far I haven't had any issues with it, but I've read certain ROM's will require the later build of Clockwork.
5) Hmm, depends on what you consider interesting
The incredible dev's have put together some pretty great ROM's.
A couple that stand out the most as being more unique, that the Droid Eris probably doesn't have:

My $.02
1) Wireless tether works like a champ. I VPN into my works network through the wireless tether with no issues at all (in fact I am wirelessly tethered now )
2) I'm loving CM7 #11 with Chad's 2272011 kernel. Good battery life, excellent speed/stability
3) I'm clueless
4) Clockwork
5) Have Fun !!!
I use wireless tether all the time. CM7 has it built in. As far as I know, the 5GB limit is where your speed gets throttled. You don't get charged more as long as you have the unlimited data plan.
I currently using CM7 RC1 and it's been pretty stable. One or two reboots a week.
I never used AR recovery, always been on Clockwork and like it.

What ROM would you like to see?!?

What sort of ROM would people like to see for the A100?!? Any particular wishes?
Personally I'd like to see a ROM that gives you slightly better battery life and the ability to under and overclock. (Tegra2 is pretty good for overclocking, no?)
That way you could set it for 1200mhz or higher for when you really need some speed, and underclock it to 600 or 800 mhz for a nice long plane trip. You should still be able to watch a couple of movies, but you'll get two hours more batterylife or thereabouts.
What I'd REALLY REALLY like to see in a future ROM, is a port of either HTCs tablet ROM or the Touchwiz ROM from the Galaxy 10.1.
Nothing beats Samsungs Touchwiz for smoothness from what I've seen, and since they use the same Tegra SoC it shouldn't be too hard to port, eh?
The HTC ROM would be pretty cool to have as an option, especially if it would be able to use the HTC Watch app.
What do you guys hope for?
First A500 ROM (Taboonay, Villain...) should be port to A100 easily ! (I hope !)
Then I'm not waiting at all for touchwiz or sense ROM cause Honeycomb is already nice...
The biggest thing on my wish list is native bluetooth PAN like the Xoom has. And tun.ko built into the kernel.
As for what ROM With ICS so close is it worth the effort to build a 3.2 ROM other then to get working drivers?
First we need a recovery. I have tried the A500 CWM with no luck. I have also contacted Koush via his blog http://www.koushikdutta.com/ requesting help with porting CWM to the A100 with no response. Anyone know how to get the ball rolling for a recovery?

Porting CWM is not the problem. In fact, the A500 CWM may work, if you can get it booted. The problem is, when you flash the recovery partition with CWM, you can no longer boot into recovery due to a checksum mismatch that the bootloader performs. The bootloader is encrypted, so can't modify it.
<Sepculation>
I am wondering though.. I believe the A100 and A500 are very similary in hardware (except the screen size). I wonder if it's possible to flash the bootloader from A500 to the A100. Kind of like downgrading the A500 from the new 3.2 back to 3.01. hmm.... i may have to visit best buy.
</speculation>

More USB goodies, and make it run games/apps as well as well as the A500. I want my Stupid Zombies and Dolphin for Pad back. Better battery life would be swell too.

So my acer a100 is rooted (since day one), I'm guessing there is no need to do a NAND unlock on these?
Also, what are the honeycomb roms (is there any?)
When i had my DINC i liked CM7 but i really dont want android < 3.2 on my tab (seems like a step backwards).

You have a great point here. With ICS just around the corner for this device (January IIRC) any Devs would be probably rather wait to put their effort in once that arrives.
I think it will take many polite requests for someone (Developer) to grab hold of this one. Or one of them to buy one and want to hack the heck out if it for themselves as well as us. I'm an avid hacker/tester but not a developer sadly. I wish I had more time to learn code and to develop. However, 60 hours a week (6 days) of work with a wife and 3 kids limits my free considerably.
Devs will defenetly wait for the ics to be release
Until ICS arrives I am happy with being able to root the device without unlocking the boot loader. But having a custom recovery like CWM would be great, let's wait and see what the Devs do after ICS arrives.
A solid AOSP ICS and ICS MIUI with CWM just to back up would be AMAZING...

Dude, hear hear. Once I have CWM on my tablet, I'm gonna be such a happy customer. Especially if some dev wants to port 4.0-based MIUI to it...that would be phenomenal.

I mean. Have you seen the previews of MIUI 4.0?! I thought AOSP ICS looked stunning. MIUI does it nice as well!! haha
I would just love to be able to get a Clockworkmod Recovery running so I can do a Nandroid backup and stuff like that.
best rom

i like your pic...ironwars??? (Great game)
Clockwork would be great so we can have the confidence to mess up our machines
The encrypted locked bootloader hinders devs from doing dev work on it. With amazing hardware, I'm hoping the devs will work this after Acer rolls out ICS next month, hopefully. I really like to have a custom recovery so I can at least do a nandroid backup in case I eff'd up even the stock ROM.
For ROMs I like, definitely CM or MIUI.

Need a kernal compatible with MHL Adapter

I am currently using the Juggernaut v5.0 rom with what i believe is a custom kernal in which it says in the following lines:
2.6.35.14-SGH-T989-faux123-009u
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPTSat Jan 21 18:54:48 PST 2012
My question is, i'm looking for a kernal (that is what one of the players of XDA said in the juggernaut thread) that will be compatible with my MHL adapter. It sucks because the new juggernaut rom has been uber stable with me (I don't mess with anything much) and I'd love to keep it.... But if there is no compatible non-oem kernals, i might have to go back to stock to get full capabilities back. Thanks in advance for anyone's help!
P.S. If you're going to lecture me about the search function... I've already tried
The kernel that comes with juggernaut is MHL capable.
According to a post found within the thread, no, it doesn't support MHL. I've also tried it on my personal SGS2 and it doesn't seem to work either, that's why I asked for a MHL kernal
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23089084&postcount=6335
If someone can help me figure out a kernal, i send my many thanks to you

It does support MHL
Can you help me figure out why it's not working for me then? because i'm lost =\ it use to be just plug n play.... are there any ROM options that i need to check? Thanks
Are you sure your MHL adapter still works? HDMI cable firmly plugged in? Power adapter?
I am on Juggernaut 5.0 with the packaged kernel and use MHL often.
I managed to get it to work, it turns out my MHL adapter has to be plugged into HDMI + Charger before i attempt to plug it into my phone. Sorry for the wasted bandwidth!
Confirmed that Juggernaut v5.0 w/ kernal works with MHL adapter! *will post this thread in the juggernaut forums for reference*

dude... come on.
haha.... once again my apologies and many thanks to those who clarified it works! It was my fault, I'm still trying to get use to using the MHL adapter.... it worked on stock rom before and i don't know why it hung up on me on juggernaut rom, but it was really just because i have to plug everything in before the phone lol
the stock ROM from Samsung works with MHL without any change

New Liquid Rom 1.2 question plus confirmation

Hey,
Gotta get those posts up so I can ask and confirm stuff in the Dev thread Been crazily flashing my GNEX! lol
Just confirming that the latest Liquid Rom 1.2 runs well using the latest Popcorn kernel! Nice and fast plus completely stable. I use my phone heaps and I am totally happy...... well I was until this afternoon :-(
Bluetooth - Got a brand new stereo for the car today, and the phone won't connect to it via bluetooth. It searches and finds the stereo, but it won't connect. The sales guy's stupid iPhone connected straight away, so I changed roms there and then. Flashed AOKP Milestone4 and it too wouldn't connect :-( So I flashed it with the latest Gummy 0.9.0 and it worked!
I do like the Gummy rom, but I prefer Liquid. Is there a fix, or is there something that I didn't do that I should have? I always do a full wipe before a flash so I know that isn't it.
Help would be appreciated
update
UPDATE:
Flashed Liquid Rom 1.2 again and initially bluetooth connection did the same thing as before, but the second try it worked! So I am very happy
Popcorn kernel running beautiful on it. The test will be over the weekend when I spend some time mucking around with the phone (gotta go to stupid work tomorrow!).
Sure am loving my GNEX! And this forum of course!!! ;-) Been a long time lurker... flashed my old Galaxy S2 many many months ago from info I found on this forum. Since them I have already flashed the GNEX with around 6-7 different ROMS.
Not only is this place a great source of plain old info, but the info that you do find here is explained well enough for even noobs like me to understand

[BOUNTY] MHL HDMI over USB out for D2ATT

This has apparently intermittently worked over the life of this device. It is currently not working with any of the latest 4.2X roms. SO, I am going to offer a USD$50.00 Bounty to anyone who adds this code to the repository of AOKP or CM10.1.
I have never offered a bounty before for anything, so if someone wants to fill in the blanks for me, feel free to do so. Nuts and bolts, is: I will put 50 bucks into this fix. If anyone else wants to add to the fund, lets put it together somehow. Escrow or something? Or just gents honor? I have a proper MHL 11 pin cord with USB Power for this device. I am technically able, just not a programmer...
Bump. Any takers or suggestions?
No takers so far. Too bad. I really wish I don't have to go back to a stock rom. PLEASE, if anyone out there can do this, more than myself would be happy, I'm sure...
so if i understand correctly, when running a custom ROM on AOSP-based 4.2.x, MHL doesn't output at all?
wish i saw this sooner to try that out. i just left CM10.1.2 to try out TW 4.1.2.

That appears to be correct. It was working with 4.1.2 as I understand, was broken in 4.2.x, I haven't tried it with 4.3.x yet, as it is still very beta for anything. If you wish for this to be fixed, add a me too to this thread, or even better, pledge a small amount (that needs to be worked out still somehow... If you have any ideas on how that could be done let me know).
Still offering this, for cm 4.3 preferably.
Slim bean thread claims working but did not for me. Please try and report back. Problems often occur with PSU or cable used.

mhl hdmi working d2att 4.2.2
I'm running liquid smooth 2.4 d2att (4.2.2) and I've got HDMI working after recovering from a soft brick. I think installing the "stock kernel" fixed it for me but my kernel Info still shows as lean kernel 3.4 which came with the ROM.
This is what I did first
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314841
Obviously I wasn't reading nor did I understand what I was doing but I installed this
http://d-h.st/KhR
Which is clearly not meant for my d2att so I got the brick.
Did the SD card did trick on my 32gb SD card (my phones only 16gb and lol in that forum claimed you had to match SD size with internal storage for it to work, but it worked first try for me.)
I had to reflash the updated boot loader with Odin to fix the brick and then I was back to installing random stuff to fix hdmi
This is the "stock kernel" that got my HDMI working... Im still not sure this is a kernel or what happens when you install it over a different kernel but HDMI worked after installing
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1992483
I did a backup post brick and I'm not sure if I should tempt fate by trying out a different ROM with hopes I can get HDMI on them. Its sad but I'm not sure why no one cares to fix hdmi
I'm on cm11 by Jerome and working fine for me only problem is home screen goes portrait
