Android beam and face recognition?
Or do only the "official" ICS gets it?
It's up to the rom developers - I for one think the g2 should have this feature despite our lack of a front facing camera.
don;t need FF camera for beam though, rite?

rite. However you do need an rfid chip for nfc, which we're lacking. so we wont get to play with that either.
Desire Z lacks front camera and NFC hardware, thus neither of this works in ICS, i believe.
No but an sdcard with rfid built in was introduced at CES or maybe just before. I don't have a link at the moment but you can find it by doing a search for nfc on Google news. Hope this helps.

i read about it some where, but mentioned nothing about capacity, or never even referred to it even having memory. I ques they lacked the memory part alltogether @ this time. And i dont think no-one is going to get satisfied whit just the minuscale internal memory on this phone.
You're right about that one. It's sad that half of our measley internal storage is taken up by the stock system files, and each custom rom we add takes away from that.
Anyways, here's the link to the story I read about it. There's also a link to the manufacturer's site in there.

Well I was wondering since the EVO3D's official ics port has finally landed would this be something easier to port and have fully functional compared to all the other CM9/CM10 ICS/JB roms? (Its only 300mb in size) When i say fully functional I mean everything including cameras and wimax.
Also Did anyone notice this article on the main page?http://www.xda-developers.com/android/htc-8mp-cameras-by-omnivision-use-universal-drivers/
Supposedly taking the ics camera drivers from the Sensation XL (or HD I guess) being it uses the same hardware as the EVO4G could get us a fully functional ics camera/camcorder?
It might be alot harder than what im making it seem, but was wondering if those who are in the "know" could enlighten me.

I doubt it. One prob is the e3d is 5 mp while the EVO is 8. Idk bout other phones but maybe one with 8 will be possible. But I don't think ffc is the same camera, or is it? Idk

Frameworks and bins aren't where the problems are - it's the kernel (mostly) and the drivers (libs, EGLs). The EVO 3D (Shooter) and EVO Design (Kingdom) don't help us there because their hardware is vastly different then ours (for the most part). Of course there are similarities, but not enough to help us get this ROM fully functioning.

Well if the EVO Shift got an ICS update, that might actually be helpful. Not as far as FFC goes (since it doesn't have one), but as far as getting a working ICS Sense ROM. But like our ancient, EOL device, the Shift is suffering a similar fate (no official update).
But yeah, as Mazda said, EVO 3D ICS is no help. We've had the leaked ROM like, forever .

Has anyone tried the camera drivers from the sensation or the sensation XL?
The FCC might be the same as well being they used a 1.3mp camera and it has an official ics sense update.
Been dead from the phone game a bit... so
forgive the ignorance if that is what this is, but
can http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1539423 now be ported back to the EVO to get working cams and such and also to play with Sense 4.0 while I await an HTC Nexus announcement?

A 3.0 Linux kernel is still needed to further progress on a sense 4 port
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
Yup currently, only the_plattypus is working on a 3.0 kernel for his sense 4 rom. Im sure we would have one, but the evo is a 2+ year old device and everyone has moved onto the latest and greatest. Sense 4a should be the smoothest sense version on the evo since it only requires 512 ram and a 1 ghz processor, other than sense 1.0. I wish i knew how to build a 3.0 kernel, since i really wanted to use sense 4 and i have this phone till april next year... Im sure the evo 4g section will be pretty dead by then...
thanks for the responses! I guess we'll see what happens.
Still some life in my G1! I'm hoping someone gets it going,
or maybe I'll dig into the os more than I have in the past...
I was also wondering the same question about the Inspire 4g which has a Rom here on XDA that states everything is working including FFC http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849074. It uses the same resolution Cameras as the OG Evo. So does the Huawai Mercury which also gained ICS. There are other phones that use the same rez Camera as the OG Evo that got ICS and have been trying to find the answer if they could be ported over. I can upgrade but in comparison to my OG all other phones are lacking and found nothing worthy of my effort to change phones. Maybe the next drop in Feb will bring one but as to date they fail horribly.

It's not about the res. It's about the drivers and kernel. New drivers need to be written from scratch as well as the 3.0 kernel.

I bet most of us have already upgrade to other phones, which are more capable with ICS or JB. I'm wondering for some sort of projects for it. Our HTC Desire is too slow and too little RAM to support the newer OS. Nevertheless, what do you do with your old Desires nowadays? Mine is just collecting dust being a camera surveillance, sending the output to a FTP server.
But how about a digital photo frame? But I know there is no possible way to get TV out. Yeah, I did search the forum...
Sigh... so far I'm doing these, as a standalone box collecting dust..
1. Camera surveillance - sends images to an FTP server (you can get those from Market),
2. alarm clock (chimes every hour),
3. Torrent downloader (hehehe, and output is dumped to my NAS),
4.... ???

My desire is great. I have it for two years now and I don't need anything more from a phone. It has everything. I run it on Runnymede AIO V6.0.4.3 Special Edition ROM and I find it quite stable. However, if a Jelly Bean ROM would get as stable as the one I am using now, I will most definitely take the leap.
I will keep mine for at lest two more years. It was the best decision I've made when I bought it. Too bad it came with such a big shortage of internal memory. It's the only thing that is missing at this phone. But now we have so many ROMs with DATA2SD so this is not an issue any more.
I use it as a spare device. Currently running Oxygen 2.3.2. Clean and simple.
JB 4.2.1 - great !!
I am on JB 4.2.1 V4.5 - and it is a new Phone - smothest i ever try !!!
when you have tested it, you will understand me.
short button
notifications
very quick connections / wifi and bluetooth
some new applikations for ics and jellybeam
try it with launcher ex - it's great

i am thinking to get old desires and put the new Bios on it for my children !!
Haha, it's unreal how these types of threads all end up as what's the best rom thread. @OP, I just use my desire as a phone and messaging only. My HOX is for entertainment.

Hello, everybody i have swaped the camera modul from HTC DESIRE HD to HTC DESIRE, it fits perfectly in the SOC.
take a look the pictures. So i have not tested this but perhaps shold someone :laugh: i am interested if will work but maybe is no software for this sh..t (sorry 4 my english, sem iz sLOVEnije)
Nice one, creative.. Probably need the drivers and camera-code from hd rom..
Greetz
keep us posted
Did the stock HTC Desire camera drivers recognise the features of the HD camera?
Wie. Youre creazy :banghead:
No no. Realy its Cool. Show us photo if thats work fine.

Not sure why'd you'd do this - unless the HD was borked perhaps?
If I had both I'd probably just use the DHD
Very good idea! A Desire HD camera module costs 8 pounds if you google for "desire hd camera module".
If I could upgrade my camera in my old desire, I'd be very happy
(BTW replacing the kernel module on /system should not be too hard in any ROM; the rest of the software stack would probably work fine)
Good idea and the camera modules fit but in the photos it dusnt show how it is when its fully asembled?? Maybe another ss with the device is fully asembled

Battery life.
Does it work, man?!
Camera is the one feature that utterly sucks in desire, would really like to see it replaced, if the hardware fits together, would the software recognize it?
You would need to port the desire hd camera drivers from DHD kernel to Bravo kernel before it would even work alot of work for just 3 extra MP not worth it
Good job
Nice, interesting, post any photo with 8MP camera...:fingers-crossed:

No1 will bother with it because it requires porting kernel drivers system changes will have to be made and so on. and tbh the desire WON'T accept the camera module anyway because it was not made for the Desire. Try but i know it will fail but no harm in trying anyway If you guys REALLY want me to ill port the DHD camera drivers into the desire kernel so you can try it out just let me know thanks x

Impossibles in the past are easy possibles today, I think that if the module connections are the same, probably there is no limitations to the device accepting it. The only limitation here is probably how the kernel will interface with the camera but we have ported roms from other devices (with other camera models and specs) and our camera works with the modified kernels/drivers. I'm really curious about it, so it would be nice to test it.

It may have the same connectors but that's not to say it will work when fitted. Anything could happen. Personally i know it wont work but if you wish to test it anyway then go ahead. The sense camera won't be implemented in the google edition obviously.......
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
If HTC willing to open sources the camera driver for Google, it is possible for the One aosp camera to make use the benefit of the imagechip2. However, you still can't get the Zoe to work except Google implements it into One aosp camera with HTC permission.
I think the possibility of the above to happen will very low.... lol... yes, it is not that very make sense to get a senseless HTC One. Only S4 needs to sell Nexus ver this time, not HTC One.
But I guess the software focus on Qualcomm S4 600 should be improved, it might be okay for the HTC One aosp camera for normal use. I don't know, I don't have a HTC One.
yea certain rumours have confirmed that it WONT come with Zoe

It will still difficult to implement if HTC gives out permission because sense camera will need to access the framework from sense rom. There is no sense framework in aosp therefore Zoe won't work in the camera.apk even though HTC releases the imagechip2 driver for Google. Google will need to make his own aosp ver of Zoe start from scratch, so the possibility is almost zero at the moment.
However, I beat Samsung, Sony, LG will implement similar function in the next generation flagship. At that time, when this feature become one of smartphone standard, Google will make it in Nexus.
HTC One and HTC One V aren't anywhere close in hardware similarities (that I know of) so I doubt the camera in 4.2 could become of a working state with it.
