[Q] Titanium Backup not working - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After flashing runnymede v5.0 AIO, i'm not able to use titanium backup anymore, it says that it isn't able to get root access,
I tried busybox update from titanium backup itself, it failed,
Then the one from market, still not working
After that i checked if i had proper root, i did, but still i re-ran gingerbreak. Still no result. Is there any other solution? other root apps work..

That seems odd :/
Gonna sound fairly basic, but you gotta start somewhere.
Does Titanium show up in the allowed list in SU?
Has it requested SU?
Hav you e-mailed dev? sounds more like a bug if its the only root app not working.
my 2c.

No it doesn't, in the log it says denied for Titanium Backup, however it never showed me a pop up, and in the settings of SU i enabled the option that it allows every app, still no succes

it still sounds like a bug in the app from here. Like I said though, that's only my opinion. Which version of Titanium is it (not number, but paid or free)?

It is the paid version

Again, just a thought, but have you tried using the free version? Just to see if its Titanium in general or just that one app?

I have tried the free version.. No success..

Did a factory reset and flashed the rom again, Titanium backup working fine now.

Can't Back Up Apps HELP!

I've been trying to use MyBackUP Pro to backup my apps but it won't work. It just says at the top "Could not open DB for market links." and "Android Market link was not found." next to each app. Help please!
P.S. My data backs up fine, it's just my Apps that won't.
What rom are you on? Is the market working for you? If the market isnt working then, there is your problem. You need to install the gapps file that is wondering around in all the CM6 posts. Also have you tried using titanium back up? Personaly backing up apps isnt a big issue. I have an apps list on my laptop because when ever I flash a new rom I like to freshly re-install my apps so that there is no possible issues with the rom and the app. Backing up apps is over rated lol, just saying.
That's another problem. I don't think I'm rooted anymore (which is why I want to back up so I can root). A few weeks ago my internet stopped working completely (I was using the Froyo fresh rom) so I updated to Froyo update (2.0.3 or whatever) OTA. I'm not sure whether or not I lost root because MyBackUp Pro says I'm rooted but Titanium says I'm not. And my market works fine.
Dont you have to be rooted to do a nand back up or flash? I know there is something you can type in compand prompt to se if you are rooted.
Open your terminal and type in SU and if a $ comes up you are rooted. Ithink thats right.
I also am hving the same problem....I am stuck in unrooted/titanium...clockworkmod says I am unrooted....but i can't get to recovery or nandroid back up.....really annoying, because I bought My Backup Pro....and it says "Could not open DB for Market links" so each app say's "Android market link was not found".
I can access the market fine! I used "Appinstaller" (also uninstaller/appsaver) from market...It appears to back them up on my SD card....but what it wrong that I am stuck here....someone said I have to wait until someone comes up with a way to unroot froyo 2.2?
Thanks!!

[Q] Titanium Backup Failing Since License.

Not sure where this question goes, I figure here but...
Last week I planned on trying out a few ROMS, I've been using Titanium flawlessly but with 48+ apps I decided to buy a license to bypass all the prompts.
And this is where the problems started. I still have not tried without the license file installed, I know I should.
I create a backup, verify the backup, flash a ROM and 1) flash install Titanium or 2) install from the market, start restore and the phone crashes back to the bootanimation, verify the backup now and every backup will have errors.
I posted this on the official Titanium forum and got not response.
Update busybox
I've tried that both before backup and before restore.
when titanium restores it kills the process it is restoring. if you are restoring the whole system instead of just your user apps, what you are saying will occur.
I am not restoring any system files or even system settings.
Only user apps and data.
I removed the lic file. Next flash I'll try a backup/restore and see what happens.
Tha'ts the only difference.
email the dev. he is great at helping and is damn smart.

That was one of the issues. The license was sent from a noreply address and support is direct to a forum.
However I just checked my paypal and sent an email to the address I paypal'd the donation.
I deleted the lic file from the SDcard and even rebooted and Titanium still shows as registered.
I'll hope that's a good email address and wait for an email response.
Sounds like you are having a similar problem that I was having. Are you letting TB auto restore settings from your sd cards? I turned that off... Deleted the files from the sd card... And haven't seen that problem again. I used mostly default settings so id prefer to just have to remember to adjust the few settings I liked whether I did a reinstall. (also.. Now that I'm thinking about it.. I also adopted trying to flash tb and inse instead just install it from the market... ) give both a go.

Not sure what you mean by that. It the same settings I've been using.
Again the only difference being the license file.

Debugging has always been on since before using Titanium.
Now to make it really interesting.
I've been playing with ROMS the last few days, I'm cooking a ROM from the latest RUU so I'm done now.
I've backed up in Sense, with the lic. I restored in a clean install of Cyanogen.
I also made a backup in Cyanogen and restored to a clean install of Sense.
I had to install each program manually with prompts but no errors and everything worked. No missing SDCard of data not working. I left those problems out.
I have a clean backup made in a Sense ROM and will try to restore to my new Sense ROM.
I previously deleted the backups through Titanium and also deleted the folder on the SDCard.
I once formatted and restored my files to the card while all this was happening.
As of now the restore seems to be going well.
-edit: Restore is finished and everything is working. Not sure what went on unless Titanium just doesn’t like the Snap Kernel.
I had this same TB problem after getting the license file. In trying to figure out the issue, I discovered that I had somehow managed to lose full root (i.e. NAND re-locked, s-on), my radio reverted to like 1.39.x (and reflashing the latest would not stick), and my HBOOT version had changed to .79 (or whatever the original shipped version was -- as opposed to the .76 version from Toast's root part 2).
I seriously doubt that the TB license caused all of those problems (though I can't for the life of me figure out how on earth that happened), but for others experiencing similar problems, double check that you have full root.
Is it hanging on the restore? Go to prefererences and change the restore type to "indirect."
There is an update on market for tb that says it addresses some license problems.
I did not lose root, All root apps still worked and I was able to flash all ROMS, themes, etc.
Although I do belive the ROMS I was restoring to were 3.29 OTA based. My current is 3.29 RUU based.
Nothing was hanging for me, just a crash, not an app FC, and all backups then being corrupt.
It's worked great when I flashed my current ROM. I even went back and forth a couple times playing with Cyanogen.
I don't know what happened.
did you get a response back from email
Same thing happened to me. went from a rooted Stock with s-off to Myn TwoPointTwo and formatted new SD card with A2SD (SD-ext) partition and backups verify as all corrupted. Tried Traditional restore and some could not be parsed. Also the Data for some completely corrupt.
What is odd is that some older backups were fine but newer ones where not. Even tried re-copying from a backups from PC and Dropbox.
Finishing re-install then going to wipe backups and try again. Its a real pain to manual reinstall and setup.

Frozen apps w/ titanium backup, used Visionary before using TB... What now?

I used Visionary to temproot, checked the r/w after boot option and the temproot on boot option. Got superuser installed, and installed Titanium backup.
I used TB to freeze some apps and now I'm wondering if they will stay frozen after reboot/restart of the phone, or if I have to do anything else.

Why don't u try it yourself.. froze some apps, restart, and see whether the apps still in the drawer or already disappear.. Simple, isn't it?
I did eventually, but I was scared to **** something up, so I asked here - where people know 20948204 times more than me.

Rooted Desire keeps asking for Superuser permissions

I've searched high and low for a solution to this that works for me, both here and everywhere else Google would point me, but I have yet to find one that works, so I hope someone can help me.
I've an original Desire running a rooted Froyo ROM, which was rooted using unrevoked ages ago (probably a year or so no). When I originally rooted it, everything worked perfectly. A few months ago I ran the newest version of unrevoked over it again to update the recovery to the latest clockwork and it appeared to work fine, but ever since I did this the superuser app will continually pop up asking for permissions every time any app that needs root is run (sometimes MANY times, as when Titanium backup is run).
I've tried different things to see if I could fix it - clearing the data for the Superuser app, clearing the Dalvik cache, even reflashing the older clockwork recovery back onto my phone with the older version of unrevoked which originally worked, but with no luck. The phone is still S-ON, but I don't see why that would matter when I had no problems with the original rooting of the phone.
I'm stuck and am not sure where to go from here, so any advice would be very appreciated.

When you're on Superuser app, do you see your apps with green button on the rigth ?
Witch version of Superuser app do you use ? Mine is v2.3.6.3 with cmd su v2.3.1-ef
Also, when being asked for permission, is "Remember" checked?
why not just re-root?

Yes you should have a list of allowed apps on opening the su app itself - click apps on top left. The allowed apps shouldn't keep requesting permission each time.
You coukkd uninstall su app then reinstall from market?
Nandroid backup first!
Thanks for the all the replies, much appreciated!
@punky.mtp & @stringer7: Yes, I can see the apps I've granted permissions to in the Superuser app, each has a green button against it. I'm not sure of the current version of SU I'm running, but I know it's not the latest version. I've tried to update it from the Market but it won't over-write the existing installed SU. I'm doing a nandroid as I type and will try uninstalling and reinstalling to see if that helps.
@HiVoltage85: Yes, I've set the remember checkbox as well for each app when granting permission.
@BigMrB: I've already re-rooted with different versions of unrevoked, several times, which hasn't fixed the problem.
I'll let you know how I go.
Sorry, I'm giving away my ignorance, but how do I uninstall my current Superuser app? The uninstall button is disabled in the manage applications part of the phone's setup.
Edit - Never mind, I found how to do it.
Looks like I have it fixed. I was able to remove the old Superuser app and install a new one from recovery (v2.3.6.3) which works properly and doesn't keep asking for permissions repeatedly. Thanks for the suggestions and help!

What's the best backup app?

As much as I love the Note 3 it has problems with backup apps. I haven't got Titanium Backup to work successfully. Now it won't even let me install it, it says not enough space. I just used Rom Toolbox, flashed a rom and restored and it and only some apps restored and no data restored. So what are people using successfully?
I use titanium Backup Pro 6.1.5.2 and I run the tb fixer app after each restore and I have no problems.
Edit: so you're aware, in still on 4.3 I've been doing this this way since i got my phone in January, but this works fine for me.
I'm on TMo KitKat and TB works fine for me. Always has. There was a time when I had to use the fixer app but that isn't an issue anymore. I have tried Helium Backup and it's ok, but it still doesn't touch TB imo. I believe Helium doesn't require root either.

I uninstalled TB so I could reinstall it and see if it would work. But now all I get is an error saying that there is "insufficient storage available", any idea how to fix that? Thanks.

That's an old TB issue but to fix it is simple:
1- Use any file explorer like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer, etc.
2- go to /data/app,
3- find and delete "com.kermidas.TitaniumBackup-1.odex".
Used TB since I got the phone. Now on Stock rooted 4.4.2 still works fine. I backup to the external SDcard which gets copied one of my servers at home every Sunday as an archive backup. Pictures, videos that might be on the phone, and other stuff is stored on the External as well.
Using current version as updated by Play market as updates come out.
Titanium backup is the king when it comes to backup, constantly supported and updated. Nothing competes with it imho, cloud backup is junk.

Mybackup Pro is a nice one too
I use TB all the time on my Note 3 and haven't had any problems. After a fresh install, I've also restored apps via Nandroid Manager Pro from a recent nandroid which saved me the trouble of going through and selecting or deselecting apps that I don't need installed but want a backup of. The process took a really long time but was pretty much automated. That will probably be my preferred method after a fresh flash, assuming that I have a recent enough nandroid.
Not a fan of My Backup Pro. Can you say DRM that prevents use by paying customers?... I bought the app on my Note 3 and installed it there and on my Note 8. It worked fine on the tablet, but on my Note 3, kept giving me an "invalid license" message. I tried all kinds of things: reinstall after wiping Dalvik / cache, running a few junk cleaner apps, but no love. Dev seemed like kind of a hard-ass when I emailed him for a refund, but got my money back after a few emails.
Anyways, yeah. What I said before.
Ok gonna try TB, has good feedbacks

Titanium Backup has worked flawlessly for me for many years, on HTC G2, SGS2, and now Note 3.
I just straight up use the app backup that es file explorer has built in to it. TB for me had many problems, ROM toolbox as mentioned actually only backed up/restored certain apps for me, but es has not failed me once since ice cream sandwich. As long as you keep your backups fresh...
