Anyone get the tablet UI working on GSM GNex with Stock 4.0.2?
Tried a lot of DPI like 160, 180, 192 ... but System-UI crashes all the Time.
Had a lot of work getting my locked device to work again. Stock launcher closed direct after booting at 180 & 192. On 160 the launcher runs great but no nav. buttons appear.
Any ideas? I want a small Tablet!

U have to hide your navigation buttons...customs roms like AOKP have the feature, but idk how to do it with stock

Think it is: "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1" in "build.prop".
But that hide the Touch keys also.
Had a lot of trouble get the buttons back on my locked device.
Had forget to launch USB debug before rebooting. After booting only black screen and no adb, no settings, no buttons and no launcher...

That is the correct line to add to the build prop if you are not using AOKP. With AOKP you just need to close the nav bar in the power menu.
When you boot into a tablet density of 192 or lower you should get the Nav buttons on the bottom within the tablet bar.
On the CDMA versions, we needed to swap out the Phone APK with a WVGA phone APK in order for the phone not to close. Not sure if GSM is the same. The density's that worked were 192 - 185. 160 will force close the phone.
I haven't tried the tablet mod on stock though. I ran it on CM9, AOKP, and Axiom.
Also, I freeze the stock launcher with titanium and use Apex.
Okay.... I added this line and had no more nav bar, no buttons and no tablet bar! Nothing!
Phone works on 160, but no buttons! But 160 are also a little bit to small for me!

Use AOKP milestone 4 and change the DPI to 160. It has the tablet status bar, soft keys, etc. Even the notifications work the same way that tablets do!
If you want the phone app to work, it has been suggested to take the one from the Droid Incredible (just check the aokp downloads and take the phone apk from the droid incredible zip) and to push it to the phone via adb
I don't want to unlock and wipe my device if possible!
Other ideas?

Change back to your regular resolution and remove the line in your build prop. You can use an app called button savior if you need to navigate...

I just remembered you need to have root to use button savior anyway. I thought you wanted to get back to stock.
Why don't you just root your phone. It is so simple with this phone. The tool does it for you.
You can never win with a non rooted Nexus no matter what you are trying to accomplish. That is just the way it is.

Any way to add to the power down menu (holding the power button at the home screen) to include a simple reboot, and reboot to bootloader option?
I don't want to install a custom rom, I like stock rooted.
Gonna be a root feature. If you're stock rooted you can use an app like "quick boot" to have multiple reboot options from 1 app.
Its probably gonna require a custom ROM to add these to the system menu holding down the power button though. But if you're just stock, why do you need to reboot and boot into your bootloader so often? lol.
Hmm...well the goomanager app already does that, I just like the convenience of holding the power button.
I guess I could consider custom roms, but the stock "pure google" is just so...nice...but a lot of roms go changing things that I don't want changed, or add bloat that I don't want added.
This ^^^.
let it be.

Yeah you should try aokp, its still stock and you just don't have to use the extra features.
I use quick boot too.

Doesn't AOKP replace the launcher among several other things?
No I think it has both launchers, stock and nova. You can chose either.

It has nova and stock you can choose but nova looks exactly the same as stock, but its way better since you can in fact control everything like removing google search bar or increasing the grid size on desktop or removing the dock or resize the dock or infinite scrolling for desktop and dock etc etc it could stay plain stock.. So i dont see the point on going stock since with nova you can only get better than stock
AOKP does not "replace" anything, if you want stock, you can be, as same with nova with rom manager you can only get better starting from stock

No. From stock to ANY other ROM will require a wipe for everything.

Then just stay stock. And if you ever need the reboot or reboot bootloader w/o a PC use one of the root apps that does it. Like I said, why do you need to reboot and use the bootloader so often?

Do the CDMA short codes work on it? E.g. the *#*# codes.
Here is a T9 dialer mod for stock deodexed ROMs.
Just boot into recovery and flash it.
Note: This only works on the DEODEXED stock ROM. Please do not flash it on odexed stock and then complain.
Thanks to nbeebe24 for providing the mod.

exdailer is working great for me.
Yes i agree, this is the first Nexus device that i do not want to root and flash CM on, why i wouldnt mind rooting to get the some of the extra stuff custom roms provide, i dont want to miss out on apps that require you to not be rooted (like banking apps etc).
This is the only thing that i really miss though. I do not like the stock dialer, its too much hassle to ring someone, and am quite shocked Google hasnt included this option yet. I would like one that looks exactly like stock, but has the added T9 (am not demanding one or anything, was just saying that would make my phone perfect) i dont know if it would be possible to pull the dialer from CM10.1 (or 10 if that would work?) and just sideload the app. Then disable the dialer in settings?

the AOKP dec4 build has it - or maybe the one i use that is based off the euroskank Cm10.1 build. But both o/c on custom roms.
I like the way cyanogenmod and AOKP made the dialers. It looks and feels much nicer than any dialer in the play store in my opinion. The UI and the way t9 dialing is handled is much more refined and intuitive.
I remember the CM dialer being made into a mod for stock roms for the galaxy nexus so its definitely possible.

thanks for this, but its a Zip file, and thus you need to flash it. To flash it i need to root and install a custom recovery. I, like the original poster, don't want to root.
Can this be made into an APK?

Thanks a lot for the mod. I just flashed it on the deodexed rom and it works great. But my contacts still don't display the full contact pic when I'm receiving calls. Is that only possible in AOKP? And is there a way we could get back the gradient background of the stock dialer as this one is all black and doesn't look as good since this isn't an amoled screen

Would it be possible to (or does some rom already have it that I don't know about) make it so that lockscreen widgets in 4.2 can be fully expanded by default and then unlocked just by swiping the unlock up? So basically the widget could be shrunk back and the phone unlocked all in one motion?
This would basically unlock in a similar way to HTC Sense. I'm just not a huge fan of having to first shrink the widget and then unlock as it feels like a totally unnecessary step.
I think Xylon has quick press and hold to unlock, but I found Xylon to be pretty unstable on my VZW nexus. Could that functionality be ported to any rom? If it matters I'm running Liquid Smooth Beta.
Any help would be awesome. Thanks.
Team sourcery rom has auto maximize widgets and long press lock key to unlock phone. Works very well for what you are looking for

I don't think that option is available in CM10. I think it's just like that by default.
Id like to add extended power menu to my rom which is on a DMG1 base.
