[Q] Best Battery kernel Rom? CDMA Galaxy Nexus - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi,
Just coming from my galaxy s epic 4g touch which was pretty good on battery.. I know roms and kernels could fix that issue with the galaxy nexus cdma which isn't so good..
Which of you tested out a few kernels/Roms and found great battery life when putting the galaxy through it's paces?
I actually love love the phone but the darn battery kinna sucks

Welcome . I also left Sprint and the E4GT. I love this Nexus. The 720p display is so awesome. And official ICS is a major upgrade for the Android OS.
But sadly the battery life is nowhere near what I was running with Calk's ROM + ICS theme. I could go 40 hours easily on light use. And get 12 - 14 hours on heavy days with tons of use, 5 hours display time.
I put the Nexus in the middle for battery life. My old but awesome EVO 4G sucked battery life like a vampire. With heavy use maybe 5-6 hours and light use was maybe almost a full day.
The Nexus seems to be in the middle, for sure way better than the EVO 4G, but not as good as the Galaxy SII, for battery life.
I think with ICS being so fresh, and the Nexus GPU new too, it will take a few Google updates and revised ROM's to really extend battery life close to the SII.

Get the extended battery, can maybe add 2 hours extra life. Turn off LTE if you don't need it, 4G sucks battery pretty good.
As far as ROM's + kernels, there are some really good ones out there.
- Android Revolution HD
- AOKP + Franco kernel
- Operation Code Name
Many others.

Ive tried aokp w/ stock, francos, imo
to be honest, i have not tested the IMOs fully, as an update was just released and i decided to flash with jakebites mod.
I am not a battery stats crazy guy, but i can say that both francos and imo are great so far, improvement in speed and battery life over stock.
I've heard people are getting great battery life with trinity's new kernel and if you are looking for stability, i hear its on heyitslou's defiant
I've found this list to be the most complete.

I would like to hear your feedback on your experiences also, as there are just simply not enough hours in the day to try everything, just want to try the best. hope that helps...

Which 4.0.3 ROM has best battery life ?

I am still on 4.0.2, looking to switch to a 4.0.3 ROM. Which one is best recommended for battery life and stability ? I don't care about crazy cool add on features, just want a solid phone with little to no bugs, that can handle making a ton of sales calls during the day...50 texts a day...20 emails...surf the web...post on XDA...Do all of that on a single charge.
I do have the Verizon extended battery.
Thank you

Every rom has awesome battery life until you start installing apps and widgets.
good day.
I am staying stock for awhile. Stock has been awesome battery life and features so far. Maybe if a rom included 32GB NAND I might switch.

Why I CAN use ICS :) (updated)

First of all, I absolutely LOVE ICS. I'm even getting a nexus to have AOSP ICS. It's great, but not on this phone. I ran it for 4 days and I am glad I did, but no more. I just want to explain why.
First of all: the camera. While everything but recording WORKS, it does not WORK WELL. The autofocus is awful, and I struggle to take a picture I would take in a second with skyraider. The pictures also are often very grainy. Now, as of AOKP, camcorder works, and flash works on Angel Camera. Everything about the camera works.
Second: Apps. I'm not talking about the ICS apps. They are incredible. On our phone though, many apps I love, like temple run , as well as others crash or just don't work. Some apps just have lots of FC's.All apps except for temple run that I use have no issues now.
Third: Battery life (depends on ROM). On AOKP, the battery life is absolutely abysmal. However, it is wonderful on the Nexus, which is why it is strange to me. I have many media wakelocks, and other issues. Getting amazing battery life with build 31 of AOKP with aero's v9 kernel.
Fourth: Stability. Just today, my gallery decided to stop working. Before, I have had random lockups, a mess of FC's and many other things. For me, it's very important to have whatever feature I need, when I need it. Not in 5 minutes, not in a hour. If I need to take a picture, I need to take one. If I need to check a website, the browser had better not start force closing. If I need to download an app, the Play Store had better not crash 5 times. Twice today, my phone decided to just have a black screen when getting a phone call, and I couldn't answer them. I have not had any issues with ICS stability on this build or the last couple of aero's.
Note though, that I am not saying that YOU shouldn't run ICS. In fact, if you can, DO IT! Just I can't, sadly. The developers do an absolutely incredible job porting this stuff no thanks to HTC. I really want to thank them for that. I'll just be sticking with GB unless there's a leak for us. I just wanted to write this up, not sure why. Oh, well.
Now, ICS is amazing, and there is no reason anyone shouldn't run it, unless you are stuck on sense!
Party on Wayne!
I'm excited for ics, but until we get a good leak I don't see me using it for a while

You're rationalizing. Embrace the mediocre pictures. I can't leave ics because the cm9 music and MusicFX I flashed sounds so fn awesome it makes me cry.

Are you getting a nexus one(good battery), nexus s(also good battery, or a galaxy nexus( the battery is so bad it can't keep up with charge). Just wondering, I'd go for the nexus s if I didn't have a upgrade and I needed a new phone.
If I had an upgrade I'd get the rezound. I like soft keys(actually I don't like the red soft keys on the rezound, I like the ones on the dinc 2 better), even though are soft keys are a part of the touch screen. It's the fastest phone on the market, and it can take amazing pics. Not to mention the battery is good and development is plentiful. And its getting ics soon......
IDK why I wrote this

Huh, so the Galaxy Nexus has horrible battery. Let's see what an extended battery, franco kernel, and AOKP have to say about that. Oh, yeah, with stock battery and AOKP/franco, you get 3 hrs screen on time. Woops. And the Rezound is my least fav phone out of the "big 3". Now that has terrible battery life. I have a friend, you know the one that gave all the ICS leaks to the Rezound users? Yeah, him. He tried a Nexus and said the battery was amazing compared to his Rezound. Also, the Rezound is really thick, overheats, and has Sense 3.5/.6. Ugh.

I have to say. The battery on the ICS builds are not bad at all. I am running areos 31 build with stock kernel oc 1.2 and still have an all day battery with moderate usage. But to each his own.

I wish the op best of luck, but I hated the GN. Terrible battery life, awful looking screen and one of the worst radios I have ever used in a phone. The only thing good about it was that it ran ICS natively.

Agreed, running the same here, getting a solid 2+ days battery life with light/moderate usage. I don't take many pics so not too worried about the camera. Music FC's on me every now and again, but I haven't had a single hiccup or reboot otherwise.
I do wonder if it's possible (perhaps in an upcoming build) to lock the messaging app & launcher in memory, as sometimes the messaging app is slow upon initially launching.
I'm gonna give ics one more shot with build 29 of aokp

Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA
Well, I came straight from stock 2.3.3 to ICS. No other mods/roms of any kind. Been running for about 24 hours now and no problems at all. No lag, no force closes and no reboots. I have the 3500 mAh HTC battery and I've been heavily using it for these 24 hours and I've lost maybe 15%. When I say heavily, I mean drooling at the screen four hours. I'm amazed. At first I hated the video I seen of ics when it was first announced, I thought it was the ugliest thing I've ever seen, but im loving it rite now. I hope I can talk my bro in law out of this phone lol.

Getting my nexus next week

Just wanted to read some opinions on what are the best ROMS and kernel for the galaxy nexus LTE, I come from the Droid charge, I know a little about imoseyon and gummy team, but the rest are unknown to me. I always read cm9 roms are great, but there are a couple to choose from. Thanks in advanced!
Also, I use my Droid charge a lot for tethering and school so I need a mix of performance and battery life for the galaxy nexus.
AOKP is the team that's killing it right now IMO.

Couple it with Franco's kernel.. battery life is just amazing.
Check the Dev section and see what suits ur taste
So is aokp better than CM9? Also there are different CM9, like I officials, unofficial and kangs, which ones do you think is better?

AOKP is the mod king right now. Pure CM-9 is close to stock, super fast and super clean. Just 2 different experiences. As a new Nexus user I'd recommend you hold off flashing custom roms for a few weeks just to experience stock ICS. It'll make you appreciate the different roms more by giving you the ability to contrast speed as well as modded features. Kernel wise, can't go wrong with Franco's or imoseyon.
My experiences:
AOKP-lots and lots of mods. A bit slower than stock, and good but not great on battery life.
CM-9-Very close to stock but faster. Better on battery life given the very clean code and lack of modded features.
Sent from CDMA GNexus w/CM-9 & franco.kernel
CM9 doesn't have the same level of customization as AOKP.
Idk how AOKP battery life is honestly, it doesn't seem that amazing from some screenshots I've seen.
I'm running liquidsmooth with Franco kernel and am getting amazing battery life.
Right now at 7 hours and 30 minutes on battery, with 1 hour 27 min of display time and listened to over 30 minutes of Music thru Google Play Music. Still have 74% battery left.
A few days ago, I got 3 hours and 20-ish minutes display time on over 11 hours on battery with 40% left of battery.
In a full day of usage I can get over 6 hours display time with heavier usage.

That's some incredible battery life, I should take a look at your ROM/kernel combination. Since I tether a lot I had to buy the big 3800 batteries, I know it might look ugly but I hate swapping barrettes.
Since I've never tried ICS I'm going to taste it for a couple of days, then I'll try a couple of roms starting with cm9 then I'll try liquid smooth.

ROM+Kernel Recommendations For New Galaxy User

I just finished rooting my Galaxy Nexus (Sprint) and I'm looking for a decent ROM+Kernel combo to flash...
I'm coming from an OG Evo 4G and while there were ALOT of nice ROMS I'd say that about 9 out of 10 were "working fully"...by working fully I mean with no real issues...I understand that one or two things might not work that great but there were alot of ROMs that seemed like they were just pushed out to be the first with the latest "flavor of the month"...
I understand it takes tons of work to make custom ROMs and I appreciate all the hard work, but some folks just seemed like they threw anything together and flashed it...and also offered no support on the issues that popped up...
I can't decide whether to just leave this new phone rooted/stock or flash something...I just don't wanna go through constant FC's and non-working features on a brand new device...
I know most people say "flash it and find out for yourself" but I'm just asking a simple question here...just wanna know if most of these ROMs are solid...
so if there are any recommendations please post em up...
I'm sure there are some ridiculous ROMs for this phone because the phone itself is CRAZY!!
One other question- since I use Sprint do I have to look for ROMs for Sprint devices only or are all the Galaxy Nexus ROMs okay to flash?
Thanks.
So... you should just stay stock rooted.
Looks like the sprint dev section has most of the major players ported.
They are all stable for the most part.
I'm running Franco kernel nightly 152, that's there.
But Doesn't look like the ROM I'm on is ported yet.

I have ButterNutz which is fairly close to stock 4.0.4 if you aren't interested in customizing every little detail of the ROM. I haven't posted it here at XDA though.
AOKP Milestone 4 and Franco Milestone 3 on mine, have not had a single problem. Right now on 14 hours of moderate use - music, calls, texts, Web surfing but no gaming - w/ 39% battery life remaining.

Milestone 5 is out.
If you're just looking for a general outline, the big four are Gummy, AOKP M5, Miui, and CM9 alpha.
Of those I'd say AOKP gives you the most customization while miui gives you the least. Most other builds I've seen for the gnex are usually inferior (IMHO) builds of those 4.
I don't notice a huge difference between custom kernels but one major benefit is being able to set the clock speed. I know Franco does that when paired with the $3 app. So you can't go wrong there.
Good luck.

AOKP M5 with the kernel is comes with (faux). Great customization enhancing the stock experience and great battery life.

I'll suggest same as many others - AOKP M5 + nightly franco.kernel 152. Really buttery smooth and bug free experience.
Liquidsmooth + Francokernel is pretty good. very smooth, lots of useful tweaks, great battery life too.
Liquidsmooth 1.35 + Francokernel M3 = 26h battery (4h screen on time) last day.
AOKP M5 + Franco

Best battery life with smooth performance and stock AOSP experience...the GOOGLE way.
BlackIce Kangorade by travp624 (on RootzWiki or Goo) or CM9 Kang by winner00. A very solid rom!! All the roms are great! For or a kernel that's fast and stays at an extremely low temp I always wind up sticking with Trinity! Great kernels, big selection! 1344/345 or the TUV.. I've flashed around and with these Trinity I always get 4+ on the screen ..
(w/heavy usage!!) You will notice a difference right away and just gets better. Also grab the app (Trinity Toolbox) Has some that aren't available to pubic and it's good to support the devs!! If you have never flashed Kangorade you are missing out! Amazing rom!!!!
Yes, most of the ROMs are quite stable, the exceptions to the rule seem to be clearly labeled as unstable. Yes, you will need to flash Sprint (toroplus) ROMs but you can flash any of the Galaxy Nexus kernels. Most of the mods and themes should probably work too but you'll probably have greater luck trying a CDMA version rather than GSM.

Battery Life?

Franco Kernel is generally pretty good. You can also try CM9 for a stock ish rom.

CM9 nightlies with either the kernel it comes with or trinity, (for extra features and performance). With that setup I get superb battery life!

I have the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, and I've tried pretty much every combination of roms and kernels. I've had good luck with Lean, Jame Bond, and Franco's kernels. As far as roms AOKP, Liquid Smooth, and Slim ICS are great. Right now I'm on Slim ICS 3.9 using the kernel that came with it, and my phone LOVES it. I just checked and I have 30% left of battery, it's been on for 12h 44m, and the screen has been on for 2h 44m. That's wifi with a little 3g thrown in, and mostly web browsing. YMMV though, as all phones are not created equal.

Doesn't make a difference. It only drains battery if there is poor LTE signal. Not if there is none.

I'm not questioning your response because I really don't know, but wouldn't it be reasonable to select cdma only if there is no 4g in your area. Doesn't the phone "look" for 4g signal and if there isn't any, wouldn't that cause a VERY slight battery drop?
But like I said, I don't know.

I believe, and don't quote me on this, that it communicates with the towers of course to determine if there is even an LTS signal to look for. That way if the tower responds as there isn't, it won't search.
I probably just made that up but if you don't have LTE your battery won't be effected by "looking" for it

Something that I noticed helps is turning of Location Service. I mean, this icon that you have between Bluetooth and Sync (on Stock Rom 4.0.4). This turns off the GPS and I've noticed it made a noticeable difference. Can't precise exactly how much, but it's a lot better for sure. If you guys could try and give your feedback about it, it would be nice.
