Hello guys, I bought wildfire s and before I unlock the bootloader and flash a custom ROM, I would like to backup my Stock ROM in case I want to put it back. How can I do it? I was trying to search it but I'm surprised I didn't find a thread like that. Thank you

You will have to unlock the bootloader and root your phone before you can take a backup.
Use too manager from mkt to take th backup.

And is it possible to unroot the phone in case I want to apply the warranty in the service?

You don't loose the warranty when you root. You loose it when you update the HBOOT -- the very first step in the process. After successfully updating HBOOT, it comes up *** UNLOCKED (OOW) ***, presumably meaning "out of warranty" but I'm not 100% sure about that.
Plus, with the registration process required to update the HBOOT, I suspect that they know that your particular phone has been unlocked, so flashing an older locked HBOOT won't even help.
The bottom line: don't unlock your bootloader and root the phone if you care that much about the warranty.

Looks like this was just made available. Is there any advantage to installing this updated bootloader? (Looks like it wipes the phone when you install it.) I'm currently on the ENG S-OFF 0.76.2000 bootloader.
Your device is already unlocked and rooted so why would you need that tool?
Stick with what you have, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Does the fact that the Bootloader is now unlockable using HTCDev does it make the Desire Z way easier to Root?
at least now its officially unlocked.
correct if im wrong. as far as i know unlocking the bootloader allows us to load custom rom (with or without root). and rooting can be performed bootloader locked or unlocked.

Agreed if it ain't broke don't fix it..believe me I use to have g2 phones and one of them I screwed up by bootloader flashing and the other is the one I have now...take it from me stay out of bootloader flashing if it ain't necessary

officially unlocking your bootloader will also void your warranty
Sent from a desire z
Yeah if you use this, HTC will have a permanent record of your phone's warranty being void. Is that really what you want ?
I don't know how it works for our phone, but I know for some other phones this tool isn't that great, it lets you flash a custom ROM but doesn't give S-OFF so you can't flash radios etc. As I said, I don't know if this same sort of restriction applies to our phone.
The Wiki method of unlocking/rooting is a lot better.

OK, thanks guys. It sounds like the overall verdict then is to not mess with the official HTC bootloader unlock since there is no advantage.
G2 won't unlock
I did everything it said on the HTC Dev website and this is the error I get:
C:\Android>fastboot oem get_identifier_token
...
(bootloader) [ERR] Command error !!!
OKAY [ 0.016s]
finished. total time: 0.016s
I triple checked everything and it won't work, any ideas?
Stock 2.3.4 G2, not rooted or anything, S-ON.
Zephead, don;t use the HTCDEV method, its really ****.
Like super duper ****.
Pain in the ass to flash new roms/recoveries.

Is it confirmed?
I was considering doing this so i could back up all my applications data before
rooting and installing a custom rom.
Yes it will wipe all your data.
If you use the XDA way (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912) you can backup your apps and data though.

Thanks, i'll look into that
Hi,
I've been trying to root my HOX using oneclick with no success, I keep getting a "permission denied" message. I've tried to find an answer on XDA and via google but couldn't find one.
All I want to do is root my device in order to restore apps data from my old Desire using Titanium Backup, I don't want to unlock the bootloader or flash a new recovery (I want to still be able to get OTA updates as JB is about to be release later this month).
Is there a way to do so ?
I also tried the method from XDA (HTC_QuickRoot_1.1.13_Release) but I get a message stating that my device is patched (my software version is 2.18.751.7 if thats help).
Thanks a lot guys !

Those One Click Tools are going through HTCDev then unlock bootloader too, at least for HOX since we have no other method to gain permenant root.
You can still receving OTA from HTC if you stayed on stock ROM. However, you will need stock recovery and stock-like ROM(not altering too much likes uninstalling certains system app.. blah~ blah~ blah~) to properly flash the OTA.
I know that there is a way to root the HOX without unlocking the bootloader or flashing a different recovery, the problem I have is that my device seems to have some kind of a patch thats preventing the root exploit to work.
Are you saying I can't root my device unless I'll use HTCDev? Because I don't think its true...
I don't want to mess with custom ROMs right now as my phone is still under warranty and I would hate it to be void, I know I can go back (ie unroot and flash stock recovery) I just don't want to mess with it right now.
I use to do it with my good old Desire (flashed it like a 1000 times) and right now I want to use the stock ROM.
Does anyone has an idea of how I can get simple root permission?
You cannot root with a locked bootloader on the HOX. Simply not possible. But feel free to waste your time trying.
Your in the wrong forum, this is for the tegra3 one x. We can't root without unlocking via htcdev.

Well I won't be waisting my time, If you're saying its not possible then I guess its not.
Do I have to use the HTCDev first to unlock it? I'm sure HTC keeps a list of devices that has been unlocked using their website. Then if one of them devices will be sent back for repairs they will say the warranty has been void....
Is it possible to unlock the bootloader and root the phone without using HTCDev, then lock it again and keep the root permissions?

Mine is the Tegra3 One X...I read that there is a oneclick tool to root any HTC and I tried it on mine, I get a message that the phone has been patched so the root process failed. Why does it matter if the its the Tegra3 CPU or Snapdragon S4 ? I mean root wise?
Thanks guys !

Is there a different method to unlock and root an HOX?
Thanks.

simple
restore the Nandroid from TWRP .. then Flash the Boot.img and Recovery.img then relock bootloader
you can do all that with : fastboot oem lock
or use this tool : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676686
PS: bootloader can only be "re-locked" it can never be made to show "locked" at least for now !
thanx bro it worked now i can claim for warranty
No you can't ....it shows relocked not locked
but bootloader is locked then why???
It's relocked. Not officially locked.
I believe it just saves everything from being overwritten or something, but as far as I know with this stuff, you can't get it to be locked like when you first got it.

I'm on an AT&T Htc one M8 and I have unlocked, rooted and S-Off(With firewater). Tomorrow I will be taking it into the store to swap it out due to a build defect.
So far I have backed up in TWRP, Titanium Backup and copied my SD card onto my computer. I just need to return to S-On and then lock the phone again and return to stock. Can anyone point me on how to do this?

Find your ROM in this collection and flash that. First restore the ROM backup in twrp recovery then flash the stock recovery (fond in same the same thread) in fastboot.
If you need to, remove Tampered logo from bootloader:
MUST BE S-OFF

Locking the bootloader
MUST BE S-OFF

Edit: did some searching and this is the command to turn s-on
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
You should double check this as this is my first HTC phone that I'll be rooting so I don't have a lot of experience with s-off/s-on. From what I've read people say you shouldn't go back to s-on if s-off due to risk of bricking so be careful. Make sure you know what you're doing.

I'm not sure man. I returned mine to T-Mobile for the speaker grill problem and they didn't even turn it on. I'd probably return it to fully stock just in case HTC looks at it. I don't know why turning s-on back on is a risk. You might wanna ask around before doing it. Ask in the locking bootloader thread I linked maybe they can help you

Just as Arash94 stated. Just unroot, flash stock recovery, then relock bootloader. Follow with a factory restore and your back in warranty. Note that the disclaimer before unlocking your bootloader states that it MAY void warranty. Meaning if you do any system modifications deeper then that and it sexes up your device its on your head not theirs.

That's the thing. They won't know, if it won't boot to it. >. & if its hardware wise, relocked, fully stock, with the software working as it should, but hardware being the only issue; they replace it.
This voids replacements for software replacements basically if they can see it's unlocked/relocked. It's a broad range with brief holes of loops lol.
