hey guys im sure you get these a lot.
anyway, Ive been running CM6 for awhile now but found out my hometown has 4G coverage now and where i go to school will get 4G in about a month, so I have to make the switch to sense for obvious reasons. Im not huge on performance because frankly i'm not looking to blow minds with benchmarks on quadrant, the phone is fast as **** no matter what so im looking for the best battery life. a must for me is that they keep the theme relatively stock as well, some people arent graphically inclined no offense...
also looking for a good stable kernel with good battery life.
currently running burnt droid with baked kernel #6. heard fresh was good on battery but i think his site, geekfor.me, is down, can someone confirm this?
thanks a lot for your opinions
I don't have 4G here, so I can't say for sure how much 4G affects the battery on this rom, however I've been using Ava-FroyoV10. I do know that the 4G works. I have used it once while I was traveling through a few towns that did have it.
Besides 4G, I do use my phone pretty averagely. In my opinion anyway. I'm usually constantly texting, checking up on eBay using their app, having it plugged into the radio in my car for music, or reading up on engadget. Using Wifi or 3G were applicable. My phone lasts from, about... 8:30AM to around 9 or 10PM. I get a good day's use out of it with Ava-FroyoV10.
I don't use any kernel. I did used to have Netarchy's, however the Ava's stock kernel feels better with the phone. You do not get to adjust your CPU Voltage with the stock kernel.
Your best bet is to surf the Roms and Kernels. Find which one you like best, and stick with it.
Myns warm works pretty well for me with the stock kernel.
plus its a damn good looking rom

I too am looking for suggestions on a good rom to use to have decent battery life. Is Myn the only rom? What other kernels have decent battery life?
+1 I only get like 12hours max when i hardly use my phone... battery is going downhill
Hey guys. As we all know there are about 5 different Radios for the *GSM* nexus phones and alot of people are on the bridge on which one to use, how they behaved in certain areas, which one are we using, etc and i thought a thread from us users giving our personal reviews on radios we ran and how they performed for us could be pretty beneficial. I'll start us off.
Out here in Los Angeles, California on T-Mobile USA. i was on the kk1 radio (came stock) and i had unbelievable battery life. Usually a day or two i could go without a charge! Today flashed the kk7 radio to see how it performs and immediately i noticed i'm having constant reliable 4g so thats a major plus, then just now i switched to the kl1 after looking at reviews and now i'm going to test this one for a few days to see how it goes. Me personally i am looking for the best battery life so i'll be looking for that for the next few days while i'm testing these radios out.
Let me know how that is.. I have good battery life and reception on xxkk6 here in Springfield Ohio

DVKK6 works perfectly with the Telstra network in Australia. Although you can use the XXKK6 radio without any issues, there is little difference between the two.

we might have to stay in touch... I'm in LA and on T-Mobile. So which radio do you recommend? Kl1 or kk7 (reception speed wise)

Wouldn't this be more useful to post in the radio-collection thread?
I mean... To keep things a bit connected? That was why I created it in the first place

I'm on kk1 and battery is great 3 hours screen on time with YouTube browsing and other junk, no games . However I get signal drop outs and my wifi is so slow compared to my gs2 that I use for work.
Waiting for the update hoping it will fix some issues if not time to root and flash.
But battery has gotten better the longer I have the phone and the more apps that run lol its strange lol

KK6 - o2 Germany - best radio and speech quality I've ever had with a phone.
I've used KK1, KK6 and KL1, speed tested them and made calls, reception and battery tests.
The best one is KK1. Full HSPA where available, upload is as good as KL1. KK6 has the best upload speed, but less reception and battery durance.
KK1 switches to 3G when not used, the others don't.
So, my option is KK1 baseband plus KL01 bootloader.
KK6 has been the best for me, by far.
KK7 is out?
Flashed to kk6, best results for me

Guys guys.
This is the radio discussion thread, and it has all the radios discussed linked and ready for download, with links for each respective basebands thread and mirrors and all that.
If you discuss things there instead of in a million loose threads around the forum it would make it easier for people later to make assumptions about which radios work well and where.
Besides, I thought XDA had a policy on duplicate posts etc.
I realize this is an endless debate depending on lots of different factors. That being said, I was curious what people's experience has been with different modems in the Dallas/Metroplex area. I've run EK02 and El13 to mixed results on each, all on Calk's various releases. I was just wondering if anyone in DFW area had any particularly good experience with signal and battery life. If so, could you share your setup?
Thanks!

I'm in Arlington and EL13 gives me the best signal and battery life. My office in Irving gets bad cell signal on EL29, but when I switched to EL13, I see bars on the phone. I've tried all modems and El13 is the best for me.
ROM: Calk 2.9
Kernel: Rogue stock EL29
Modem: EL13
Battery life: 24-30 total hours with intermittent use. Not that heavy a user, but I use it enough for my purposes
Its all trial and error.

yeah it's all trial and error, Here in Grand Prairie I'm currently using FB15 modem. I really need to change that. When I was using EL29 I had pretty good signal. But with EL13 I had horrible signal.
you just have to try them, modems affect every phone differently. also don't just flash and judge.
when you change your modem update your prl and profile, then give the modem a few days to settle in to find out if it actually works better for you
Thanks, all, I appreciate the feedback.
Heard alot about the e4gt, and was wondering what everyone thinks about how the 3vo compares to it. I had to get the 3vo because it was $100 less.. Was it a good choice?
I would say if you got the 3d you got the worse of the two. I have both and the 3d doesn't compare to my epic. sorry bud.
I thought so to. The dumbass at the radioshack store recommended the 3vo. lol
ya its still a good phone for the price. sense just slows the phone down. but the also roms don't have 3d. I love my epic
Yes. Coming from a HTC man I would definitely have to give the edge to the E4GT. I had the original Evo 4G and Epic 4G and now the 3D and E4GT. Despite what a lot of people said about the original two phones, I think the Evo was the better of the two, even with the Epic boasting better hardware but this E4GT blows the 3D out of the water. Better screen, better camera, better speakers, better radios...just an all around better phone. I will have to give the edge to the 3D when it comes to build quality. The 3D feels like a well and solid built phone when handling it. The first thing I thought when I picked up the E4GT was it felt light and flimsy. Almost cheap. But it has held up after a few hard drops on my part. Now I still hate TouchWiz with a passion and Sense is 10x better IMO, but with other launchers available I've gotten over it. The 3D seems to have a little more development going on for whatever reason but it doesn't have the huge disparity like the original Evo 4G had over the Epic 4G. Now don't get me wrong, the 3D is a good phone and quite comparable but the E4GT beats it out Imo. Now just waiting to see if Sprint will be getting the One X and GS III. That's gonna make things interesting, I may have to go back to carrying around two phones.
Go with the e4gt. Great speed, good dev support, great screen, great phone. Rooted, running PH's Blazer 4.0 ROM, w Gunslinger 1.4.1, w FB15 modem. Its buttery smooth, & responsive. And great battery life so far (c screenie). That's with mild to moderate use (calls, texts, browsing, youtube.
Beamed from my Galaxy, far, far away, using XDA App
there are at least 5 open threads about the same thing in this forum (in depth ones at that)
please do some searching first! im not a mod but it really gets irritating seeing the same things over and over.

Sorry about that, i didnt see any of them, and thanks, ill take a look
no doubt bro, again not trying to be a douche lol. but just do a search for evo3d in the general or q&a sections of the et4g forums. it will being up a bunch of threads where its been heavily discussed
I was wondering if there is actually any coding differences between any of the leaked modems. Are they just adding a modem into the leaks like there are final ota's? I've been installing modems as they come out and have not noticed any appreciable differences but that could be just where i live.
Most of them are the same but different build number.

Differences
Well I dont' know how much is CM9 getting better. But I seem to get differences in reception and battery life with different modems. Newest ones seem the best. You might just be getting incremental improvements that you don't notice, or service is already pretty good in your area so you don't notice the better reception in bad areas.
I was beginning to wonder if they were just different flavored sugar pills (placebo).

I'm on [UPDATE][KERNEL][ROM]tFF18 with FF18 repack with AGAT recovery 0.2.1 rom with ff18 modem and its a big improvement over other roms/modems I've tried.. Net speeds are up from around 1.5 mbs d/l to almost 3 mbs and I get 3-4 bars on the phone signal instead of 1 maybe 2.. And I'm in the mountains of Tn.

I know how you feel. In NH and VT, they don't believe in cell towers. Alone with the mts too reception can be really horrible, but with FF18 modem it has improved.
